Pros: Great selection of lumber, convenient and uncrowded. Cons: High prices, terrible service. Aside from Chris (who was great), everyone else I dealt with was horrible. If you don't know what you want and have questions, expect to be made to feel like an idiot. They seemed annoyed that I even had questions and didn't know exactly what I needed. Also, after spending a fortune on a piece of wood, the dude in the lumber yard wanted me to take a damaged piece. Weird. I wanna support local businesses and not just go to the box stores, but all they can offer to justify these prices is better service, and that is sorely lacking. My complaint is about one of the employees at this store, David. He works in the yard and he is a jerk. I am not a "lumber" person I'm just a guy that went to this place to buy some pieces of wood and a few more items and I explained to David what project I was doing and explained the shape and the length of wood I wanted. I'm no expert at cuts and dimensions and this and that, and maybe David DOESN'T actually know math either. I don't know, but the guy knew exactly what I wanted yet he kept jerking me around and he wasn't helping me by being cooperative and saying or recommending the correct size of wood. He was being a smart ass and kept saying "so is this the size you want", "hey I'm only doing what you are telling me to do". The guy knew what I needed and (he) is the expert not me and I told him that but he was not being helpful and I'm not sure if this is how he treats all the customers. David doesn't have any good customer service skills, I can see that, so the manager should train him how to be respectful and not be a smart ass. They should be there to help some of us customers that have no clue what we are doing when it comes to cutting wood and this and that. In the end I ended up with more wood that I didn't need and had to pay for and that is David's fault because instead of helping me he kept twisting things around. It seems like he wants to confuse customers on purpose or maybe he just doesn't care and he just wants to get a pay check every two weeks. Really disappointed in this place. I asked for 4 pieces of cedar, cut into equal lengths. I got 3- 48.5 inch pieces and 1- 47 inch. For a lumber yard I would expect them to follow the measure twice cut once rule. I went back to get another 48.5 inch piece and was told "the best I can do is 48". Well, they had just cut me 4 pieces from a 16 foot piece so "they best they could do" would be to actually cut me a piece from something bigger. Nice half ass effort guys. Best wood in town! Nicest staff. My pergola I was building had so many warped boards from Home Depot, I had to replace some of the structural pieces. They helped me pick out the right wood, the right sizes and helped me load my Prius. Fast checkout. The supply of wood was so great..not all hearts like the HD mass chain. And the prices were pretty good. It may cost a tad more for a piece of redwood A grade that I wanted but I lost $20 at HD just buying it there first. Thx Kenny and team! read more

I have usually been very happy with Anawalt but after today I'm going somewhere else. I needed 30@ 1x4x8. They only had a few but aid they could cut the rest for me. Cool. Then I get home and some are as short as 95", others are 97 inches (and everywhere in between) and the widths are ALL OVER THE PLACE varying by as much as 1/4"!!! Seriously??? Out of 30 sticks 4 of them so bad and so warped they cannot be used. Tons of knot holes and cracks making them useless. Gonna go somewhere I can pick out the wood myself. If you go here take a tape measure and double check the cuts!!!! read more

So I recently went here to pick up some lumber. I was told they were closed, early, I guess due to Covid. I arrived a full hour before their online website and their on the premises sign said they closed. I'm replacing my kids' preschool's rock climbing wall and was looking for high grade, but inexpensive plywood and lumber. All the usual places, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. had nothing but warped, picked through, low grade stock. Anawalt Montrose had 3/4" ACX plywood that was just perfect from the surfaces, to the consistency, and the sheets were all perfectly flat. Cost less than those other guys, too! read more

Great service, but be prepared to pay an arm and a leg. I got a quote on a 24'x6"x12" and their price was $200 more than Stock!

The owner contacted me later to follow up concerning this incident. Hopefully there is a fix. Racism is detrimental to business.

This is a real old-fashioned lumber yard, not some chain hardware with a couple of sticks of wood. Not many left like this one.

I came in today with my girlfriend to purchase cleaning supplies which we spent $80++ on and during our transaction we saw the Clorox wipes which were labeled one per customer. There were two left, I went to grab them both as I was swarmed by an employee who ripped it out of my hand and threw it back on the counter saying it's one per customer, and making a snarky comment saying "i wasn't born yesterday, you can't have two. This is my store" He also decided to whisper a racist comment under his breath. This establishment is racist! I don't live with my girlfriend and was following the rules being 1 per customer. The person who made that comment was clearly just an employee who seemed entitled. We are two people, but instead we're treated as 1 person since we came in a group, wtf does that even mean?? This place has always had bad customer service. Their staff isn't the friendliest, I would avoid shopping there. Their is other local lumbar shops nearby. Save yourself the trip. read more
