This is such a great hotel! Love the animal statues that greet you and the actual staff who greet you are so kind! I was here for a conference this past week and felt like we were all commenting on how help everyone was. The location is convenient with many food options within walking distance. A plus was that the Kwik trip near it had the cheapest gas in the area. The outdoor fireplace was a great area to gather when catching some fresh air and staying warm. The rooms are a nice size and come with a mini fridge microwave and pod coffee maker. The free hot breakfast was actually really good. Loved the build your own breakfast sandwich. I will note this place is a bit confusing to navigate with lots of staircases and multiple ways to get to the same place. I would absolutely stay here again. read more

Started off terrible because we booked adjoining rooms and put a reminder in the notes but we get there and don't have adjoining rooms so we had to split our family up. Then our room had stained furniture, broken floor tiles, a lot of mold, the pool had a lot of mold and bugs, the elevator was broken so we had to walk 3 flights of stairs several times. To top it off, breakfast had no hot food at 7 am. An employee told us they get their food daily and ran out already but we're waiting for another truck to come.... What kind of hotel doesn't have food on hand for there guests... For the cost of 2 rooms my wife and I and our 4 kids expected better. It's terrible! read more

The manager there, Candy should not be a bar manager, she doesn't know the difference between a red or white wine , difference between vodka and whiskey, very stupid ...doesn't matter if you're a drinker or not, if you manage a bar : you should know these basic things. Also....because of her lack of knowledge about wine, beers, liquor, every time I rent a room there, almost everything's out of stock! I am very disappointed in my stay on 12/9/23. i've stayed at Stony creek brand hotels in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri for sporting events for my children. this is my third stay in Onalaska and my children were accosted for playing cornhole in a public area which was something that was not an issue for stays/hockey tournaments. I was told this was a recent policy change yet was not showing any policy? I don't think I'll stay at this hotel or the stony Creek brand again. read more

Stoney Creek was amazing from check in to check out! Upon check in I was told we were upgraded to a Theme Suite, I was very surprised and grateful! The view from our room was stunning in the morning seeing the sun come over the hills. My husband and I went down to the bar and the bartender was nice and feiendly and the outdoor patio area was so nice! The continental breakfast was delicious and had several options to choose from. There were fluffy scrambled eggs, sausage links, french toast, pancakes, yogurt, mufgins granola etc. definitely above and beyond my expectations! Our room had a spectacular view as I said and was very spacious! There was a pullout sofa, a chair and a fireplace in the sitting area. They also had a very large whirlpool tub which was perfect to relax in! We had an okay stay. For adults who are looking to get away and spend some quiet time - I recommend paying attention to events going on in the area during your stay. We happened to book our Valentine's getaway during a high school downhill ski tournament - meaning we had shouting, stomping, and running up and down the halls from 6pm-11pm. We were also placed next to the elevator which was loud, the toilet flushing/refilling was extremely loud, and our heater clicked every 3 seconds while running. For as nice as this property claims to be and as expensive as it can be - we weren't overly impressed. I was disappointed in the fact that they had to run 3 different cards to get the incidental fee - come to find out it was their issue not my cards. We currently have 3 pending charges and they best be removed within the next few days or I will be calling. Breakfast was a regular hotel breakfast - it was nice to have the option even during covid. read more

Okay. If somewhere in your city-born head, you have a preconceived notion of what a hunting or fishing lodge should be like, Stoney Creek is likely that thought come to life. It starts even before you walk into the building with the moose statute right outside the front door, and continues inside with the high-beamed ceilings, the lobby decor that includes stuffed animals (not real), the wood walls, ceiling, tables and patterned carpets in the hallways. It's a log cabin, complete with a huge lobby fireplace. The rooms... Almost bordering on kitschy but without crossing the line into scary, the rooms are large, even the small ones, the table lamps look like cabins, the room colors are earth-tones, and the stuffed animal toy sitting on the bed with a note asking you to take it home, completely suck you into the whole aura. It's certainly not a chain-hotel look. It's a standout in that regard. The amenities in the room include organic soap, shampoo, lotion, etc. The pod coffee maker is easy. The TV channels run the gamut, but there are no subscription channels (at least not in my room). The Wi-Fi works well -- it's free up to a certain limit and if gaming or streaming movies is on the agenda, there's a daily fee for a faster speed. The bar downstairs doesn't open until five, so early happy hours aren't going to happen here. The gift shop includes the usual, together with some cute items, large sizes of the same shampoo and lotion available in the rooms, and toy stuffed animals. Keep the kids away from the gift shop or risk having the car overtaken by toys. They're all at kids eye-level. The hotel is quiet, with a "quiet time" noted on the registration desk. The side of the hotel in which my room was located faced out onto the fields and that probably kept it quieter and darker than rooms closer to the front door. The breakfast is standard fare, lots of carbs, but does the trick. For the adventurous, break away from the cookie cutter places. read more

Good place to rest your head but it could use some improvement. Our room was super humid and one of our sheets was stained. Also quite a few wedding parties were here and quite loud at 11pm at night. Bed was ok but older and sloped to the middle. Not a terrible place to stay but not the best either. read more

I'm a big fan of this Midwest hotel chain. We've always received five star service, clean, comfortable rooms and free, or reasonably priced, room upgrades. This was our first visit to this site. I had reserved a room with a king bed. When I checked in I asked if there were any upgrades available. They had a whirlpool suite available for a small upcharge. We are happy that we took it. It was an end unit overlooking the nature trail with a small balcony. They offer a free hot breakfast which is either eggs, waffles or biscuit and gravy plus milk, juice, fruit, cereal, etc. It's free so no complaining about the food which has been uniformly good through out oor stays at various Stoney Creeks. Rooms are clean and have a northwoods lodge theme, as does they entire building and chain. I love the lemon scented toiletries and green tea lotion. They also sell them in the gift shop. This is our 'go to' chain whenever we are traveling to an area they serve. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Stoney Creek this weekend in the Northwoods Retreat Suite #135. (Super cute cabin feel with beautiful jacuzzi/whirlpool and spacious bedroom area-large deck with a great view) Our stay could not have been better!! Starting with our check in on Saturday, to our stop in the Lumber Jack's Saloon - we were met with nothing but smiles and kindness. The hotel was very clean and updated. My husband and I have stayed there more times than I can count-and I have to say, this was a pleasant surprise after this past year of so much shutdown due to pandemic. read more

Has a wilderness decor but overall it is clean, rustic and updated with good bathrooms and room fixtures. The eclectic look makes it friendly and inviting, but makes the hotel seem 'older' (which it isn't). Surprisingly the room had a brand new Samsung LCD (something many other hotels don't yet have -- shocker!) Close access to shopping (just across the road) and a hop & skip from downtown and many more shopping areas in the area. One of the better hotels to stay at in the area, even has WIFI that isn't 'slow' like many others. read more

Fun hotel to stay at with kids. It has a strong 'CABIN' theme that is carried out in full force. Staff is friendly and helpful - allowing us a late check-out. It's only three stories, so it's easy to take the stairs and I LOVED that they are contained in the hotel with carpeted stairs so for cardio loving stair goers like me, you don't have to feel afraid in dank, concrete stairwells. Pool is kind of gross and filthy, but I appreciate the large rack overflowing with folded towels in the pool area. I liked that there were "landing" reception areas in the hallways of each floor. You can gather with people to chat or play cards without having to go into your room. Our standard double queen room was nice, clean, and well stocked. I liked that there is a slow fan that allows air circulation. We came on a humid summer night, but you can also open your windows to allow a nice evening breeze. Bathroom was also nice. I found the place cheesy, but my kids loved the hotel and they felt right at home. I know i would have loved this place as a kid. read more

Check in was a breeze and we informed the clerk we were there for Oktoberfest Weekend. He immeadiatly provided us with a shuttle map that actually stops at this hotel. Warning, this is a very busy hectic time of the year so don't expect shuttles and taxis to be on time. There is free hot breakfast in the morning.(more on that later) pool, exercise room, and most guest don't know there are walking trails behind the hotel to see wildlife. (all I saw was mosquitos) There is some vending and a pub in the lower level. We never got there so I cant review it. It opens at 5 pm. Our room was fantastic, maybe its cause we were so tired, it was the most comfortable bed ever. like falling in a cloud. Anyway, my shout out to the staff: We were out so late (waiting on the shuttle) that we actually got back to the hotel real late, after 1 am. (we usually go to bed around nine) long story short....work up at 9:56! Crap!!! we missed breakfast which ends at 10. I ran down in my pajamas to see if I could still grab a couple of muffins or something and believe it or not, the breakfast nook girls, Lisa and Maggie hooked me up with two full breakfast plates to take back to the room. biscuits and gravy, fruit, juice, yogurts muffins. Coffee is available 24 hours a day. They really went above and beyond because they could have just said breakfast is over. One warning for parent traveling with children, (or adults alike) they do leave cute stuffed animals as décor in your room. The decor of the hotel is kitschy and cute, but that's where the good review ends. The bedsheets were so starched that every movement anyone in the room made were so loud that it woke me up, and the beds themselves shook every time anyone rolled over. Every door, especially ours, was so loud when it opened and closed. I'm not sure I slept more than an hour or two that night. Breakfast was a joke. We got there at 7 a.m. and there wasn't much left. A few dry, terrible muffins and some cereal. We decided to check out and just get something from a local restaurant instead. I let the front desk lady know that there wasn't much breakfast for anyone and she said they were going to be replenishing it. Too late for us, unfortunately. I wouldn't stay here again. Nice feel (they are "All In" on the lodge theme)! The rooms were clean and the staff was top notch. The indoor/outdoor pool was nice and the bar was a nice place to spend the evening. We attended a wedding reception there and the staff did an excellent job setting up, the food was really good and the cash bar worked out well. That place gets a lot of traffic and while the lodge thing is a bit over the top, the place didn't appear run down at all. Morning breakfast was a nice touch, hats off to the attendant who had her hands full keeping it stocked. read more

I stayed here by courtesy arrangement of my client. This place is awful. First, I arrived tired and hungry at 8pm. The only food is in the bar, frozen pizza, which was served to me burned. The manager of the bar had no shame to serve a burned frozen pizza and charge $9 for it. Mr "Plumber-butt" with crack exposed, (appetizing, yes?) was seated next to me and came up with at least 42 creative uses for the "f" word, for which the manager did nothing to tone him down. On my return to my room after work on the first afternoon, I arrived to find my bed unmade. The maid had simply pulled the covers up towards the pillow. She buried the remote under the covers so I spent nearly 20 minutes looking for it. Also, they ask you to consider hanging up your towel if you want to conserve and reuse. There is no towel bar so I slung the wet towel over the shower rod. Upon my return, that is exactly where it remained in the same condition. The room lighting is one fixture in the center of the room. If you need to iron, you cannot see what you are doing as there is no lighting in the corner where the iron and ironing board is. Closet is an exposed rod. There is no HBO, but there are lots of shopping, infomercial and FOX-like channels on TV. The expanded continental breakfast offers what appeared to be powdered eggs. I have never seen natural scrambled eggs in that texture or consistency. The attendant does smile. You'll locate the butter in the fridge, darn near frozen and useless to attempt to spread onto a muffin or toast. PS McDonald's is across the street and down the block. They serve Farmer Bros coffee which is like brown water. If you plan to make coffee in your room, there is one little packet and one condiment kit. Hope you like coffee black. Oh, and make sure you check the coffee pot water reservoir. The maids don't tend to that well either from what I could see. On my next day, I returned to find my shopping bag with some snacks that was left on the floor near the nightstand - gone. Tossed, taken? Not sure. but gone from the room. I called the front desk and he asked "What exactly would you like me to do?" First answer: take a guest relations and accountability course. Finally, my sleep quality was awful. The air conditioner was loud and cycled on and off frequently. (Simple: Take earplugs to solve this.) In between operation, it makes funny clicking noises and gurgling noises. While there is an indicator as to the temperature that the read and blue indicators span, it is not steady nor accurate. If I return to this location for additional client onsite, I will request that they try the Holiday Inn express or other hotels in that immediate vicinity. We stayed here this past weekend, and were really pleased! We got a complimentary upgrade, and ended up in one of the cabins, which was pretty big. It had a kitchen with full size fridge, microwave, etc. A giant bed--THE most comfy hotel bed I have ever slept on, with THE most comfy pillows! A hot tub, fireplace, and tons of room--it was just a really nice room, and super clean. I couldn't find a single thing wrong with it. The hotel does tend to be noisy, but that's to be expected if it's near full. The pool was really nice, but a little dirty--some garbage on the floor, dirty chairs. The hot tub was awesome--nice and big, great temp. The decor was a little cheesy, but I'm not really going to the hotel for its decor, so that was okay with me. I travel to La Crosse for work from time to time, and the Stoney Creek Inn is where I call home whenever I am in town. The atmosphere is a very woodsy-outdoorsy-country feel that makes you feel like you are staying at the heart of the Wisconsin Northwoods. The staff has always been helpful and accommodating whenever I have had a request. The rooms are very comfortable. Contrary to the review below, there are several more lights beside the one of the ceiling and the TV channel lineup is actually pretty good for a hotel despite the lack of HBO. I prefer staying on the third floor for it's vaulted ceiling and fridge and microwave options. The "yes, we clean under here, too" note under the bed is a nice touch. The breakfast has a wide variety of options including cereal, french toast, fruit, and a hot option like sausage and eggs. The hot option does change from day to day and I'll admit the eggs and omelets are not the best. The pool is a neat combined indoor-outdoor pool where you can swim between them. The hot tub is also very, very large and great after a long day of work. While there is a bar on site that serves some very limited items, there is no restaurant here. However, you are within a two minute drive to dozens of good dining options. I've probably spent a combined month and change at the Stoney Creek Inn. I'm happy to call it my home away from home. read more

My family stayed here for the Holidays. The hotel is huge and you could easily get lost in the vast corridors. Despite the size, everything is clean and well decorated. This would be a great location for a business meeting or a family gathering. The rooms are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and they have a really nice pool area with a wading hot tub and an underwater connection between the the two pools. Pet friendly to boot. read more

Stayed here for one night with family. I like the rustic feel and unique touches to keep that theme throughout the hotel and in the rooms. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was about average for what you'd find at a hotel. Unfortunately I didn't have time to check out the pool or the area around the property. Despite being fairly close to the freeway, we couldn't hear any traffic noise. My only complaint is the view from one of our rooms. This property backs a beautiful nature preserve which one of our rooms looked out on. However the other room had an awful view of the air conditioners on the roof of the first level. At other hotels they would not put a room in this spot and instead use it for a maintenance room or something. Not at this one. It appears they've tried to fit in rooms where ever they could. read more

Didn't reserve a room and showed up here at 2am tired from our drive from Indiana. The gentleman at the desk Larry, was so helpful with the late check in and we had a room in no time. The decor and layout of this place is gorgeous. It really has a log cabin lodge type of feel. Could be because of the huge fire place they had going in the lobby. Very clean and spacious rooms with everything you could possibly need. I really hope to stay here again on another one of our road trips. This was a good deal for the 2 nights that we stayed here. The decorations are a bit over the top cheesy, but the moose and bear infused decor did grow on us a bit by the end. The hallways were full of shrieking, yelling children, and there are many events that happen on weekend nights that makes the place quite loud. One night I couldn't find any parking and had to park in the garage structure next door. But overall the rooms were clean and spacious for the value, and we did ask for a room in the back of the hotel so we could see the wildlife refuge. The birds and other animals we could hear were gentle and lulling when the kids stop screaming. The breakfast also isn't so bad, with lots of good options. read more

I have to say that every time we have a meeting here(we own a networking marketing business) the staff is over the top helpful. From the crew that helps us get our room set up to the wonderful front desk personnel it is amazing. We never have the issue of waiting for things or having a bad attitude portrayed to us. We are very grateful for the things that Stony Creel can offer to our or any group. That being said i have stayed here and the hotel is clean and very reasonable for price. I stayed here whlle on business nearby and was very pleasantly surprised to find such a nice place in the middle of endless miles of strip malls. What was the hugest plus is that the back of the hotel (make sure you get a room on the top floor in the back) faces an extraordinary wildlife refuge. It's 241 miles long and was established in 1924. Once the kids stop shrieking in the pool and go to bed you can hear all kinds of birds and frogs serenading you to sleep. It's really amazing. TV is fine. There's a new Starbucks and imitation Chipotle restaurant across the street. Barnes and Noble down the street. Target, too. Downtown LaCrosse, 6 miles away is cool. There's a nice coffee shop there, The Root Note, and a great ice cream parlor on Pearl Street. The old town is right on the Mississippi River and has a riverwalk along it. Let me show you how to clean! My family lives near here so we've stayed several times over the last few years; however, when we stayed the last few times (earlier this spring and last summer), I can't believe it! There's still nice people at the reception desk and the rooms are very comfortable. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff didn't clean well in either of the rooms we have. We complained to the front desk and they sent someone in to reclean while we were gone. Upon our return, there was still hair in the sink and the shower (and we hadn't been in the shower yet) and the floor was still dirty. It was really disappointing since this place used to be a really nice place to stay. read more
