We initially didn't know there was free parking in a nearby parking structure until our friends told us, but luckily we found free street parking around the area for two hours. First impression walking in was how clean the whole place felt. I also liked that there were so many different vendors and cuisines for us all to choose from. Whether you're craving Korean Food, Japanese Food, Peruvian Food, American BBQ, Burgers, or pretty much anything else, you'll probably find something here. Honestly, a lot of the vendors caught my attention because what they offered looked really good. We also spotted a cashew based ice cream shop, which was perfect for dessert after our meal. I also liked how everything was indoors too, especially since it keeps people sheltered from the weather on hot days. Another thing I appreciated was the amount of tables and seating made available. It didn't feel stressful trying to find a place to sit, and we were here on a Sunday. As we walked through the market, I thought the layout was designed really well. The way everything was set up made the place feel a lot bigger and more spacious than it actually was. I thought that was pretty smart. I'd definitely come back to this public market again next time I'm in the area.

The chicken in particular was very good - much more tender and juicy than I am used to from South Asian food. Absolutely delicious!…read more I'm a sort of a health nut, bred into me from my college days at Cal. So when it comes to eating, it's all about fresh, organic produce and free-range, line caught proteins as an effort to eat as responsibly as I can. For this reason, some of my favorite meals to this day have been had at the Berkeley Saturday Farmers Market. Cafe Zambala hits just the right spot with their delicious, hearty and healthful plates. My go to orders are usually their veggie delight and Himalayan meal, the main difference being whether you plan on eating chicken or not. For me, both are good, depending on my mood. The Himalayan meal is a healthy portion of whole grain sprouted rice with Himalayan style tandoori chicken, lentils, served with a nice bed of steamed kale and cauliflower, all under a drizzle of cilantro yogurt sauce. It sounds so simple, but the simplicity is what allows the fresh vegetables and their chicken stand out. The flavors are neither heavily spiced nor bland, just enough pop from the natural fresh herbs and vegetables that have cooked into the food. So good. If your vegetarian, the veggie delight will not disappoint. It's served with whole grain rice with stewed root vegetables and a nice bed of organic greens drizzled with the same yogurt cilantro sauce. The sauce isn't overpowering at all, lending a fresh and creamy texture to each bite. And the potatoes are perfectly cooked and tastefully flavored. No herbs get in the way, yet you can taste the fresh succulent vegetables. Their food is never disappoints. Portions are perfect, not huge and not small, leaving your stomach satisfies because your soul feels full. Grab a plate and eat under the wonderful sun. A wonderful energy bowl before you start your Saturday grocery shopping.

There is an excellent mix of produce, real food, treats (including ice cream), and take home items that you can very easily get lunch, dessert, and grocery shopping all done in one stop. The parking situation is a bit close to impossible which would really be the only con, but the neighborhood is super walkable so once you find a spot, take a stroll and earn the ham and cheese croissant I'll promise you you'll want to try! Great service, friendly vendors, this one sits atop my list!

As you head out from the BART station walk along Adeline in the opposite direction of Berkeley Bowl in the direction of Flacos. Keep walking for a bit & you will see them on the right hand side of Adeline. Lots of organic produce here. Some of it maybe a bit costly yet fresh as you can imagine as the blueberries I picked up were picked the morning that I bought them. I like that it is compact, lots of variety, & w/ heaps of organics. I do a lot of my own cooking as I frequently make smoothies for breakfast along w/ stews w/ whole grains for lunch along w/ dinner. I have recently gotten into making different customized trail mixes. I picked up some blueberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, squash, & almonds. Other items that I saw that looked interesting that I didn't pick up were avocados & sprouts. Look forward to returning here again soon!
