Geeeeeez, get your store hours down - VERY inconsistent. Hours shown on door, I've showed up now THREE times driving from Marin - they aren't open. Their listing on their door says 1:30pm on Saturdays, Google listing shows 2pm, and now Yelp listing shows 2:30pm. We came specifically based on hours posted at the door - no one is here. Based on other reviews, looks like it will be a bad call to wait it out and waste more time. Starting to believe Amazon deserves business than this shop. Classic Asian trinket/snack import shop! Located conveniently in the 99 ranch plaza bordering El Cerrito/Richmond, for your post-grocery shopping impulse needs. For COVID safety purposes, staff/patrons must wear masks and hand sanitizer is provided. With the shop so small and packed to the brim with goodies, it can be hard to maneuver even with only a handful of customers inside. Great variety, a bit pricier than other places. I picked up some Japanese Kit Kats to send to my friends in the East Coast, 8 bags totaling almost $70! And I hadn't noticed it at the time, but some of the same flavors were priced differently-- Meaning, one bag of Milk Tea Kit Kats cost $5.99 while another identical bag had a $7.99 tag on it, and the store owner (didn't get her name) didn't correct it at all! I felt a little overcharged... I have to give it to her though, she's an exceptionally effective salesperson. Offering freebies at the register, making convo and jokes all the while. Tiny shop located in Pacific East Mall that sells candy, anime figures, stuffed animals, trading cards, and so much more. All the walls are pretty much covered. If you pay by cash, they'll give you a discount. The family in front of us took a long time (but we were in no rush), however, it was cute to hear the owner interacting with one of her long time customers. The family moved to Sacramento but had to stop by to pick up some goodies. The owner mentioned she had customers visited today who had moved to TX, SD, and Sacramento but had to visit as well. Gotta say something right? I came because someone asked me to pick up some Kitkats that you typically don't find in most Asian grocers. Today the selection was yuzu salt, strawberry milk, green tea tiramisu, purple yam, lychee, latte, sparkling wine, red bean, basque cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, ume, passion fruit, chestnut, apple pie, strawberry, ceremonial matcha, and mix of milk & dark chocolate. Prices of the Kitkats ranged from $5-9. Way better than some places I've seen. Picked up most of them and the owner was nice enough to give me some extra goodies after she found out nothing was for me. Super sweet lady. Even bagged separately. This place saved my tail. Last week my wife came home from a Hawaiian vacation. The next day I was enjoying my favorite beer and got the munchies. I couldn't believe my luck when I found some tasty looking dried spicy sesame anchovies. Boy did they hit the spot. Uh Oh. Wifey saw me eating these and had a fit. Turns out she brought them from Hawaii and had promised them to a friend. I went to the Candy Box on the off chance that they might have these. Praise and Thank You Lord Jesus! I absolutely love this place! AND YES THEY ARE OPEN DURING COVID!! She will give you gloves to put on and your own spoon for the bins. Every time I come to Ranch 99 to get dinner, boba, or just anything then I always make sure to stop by here to get some sweets for the road home. The owner is the sweetest lady and she always has the best candy and toys from green tea or mochi kit kats or a variety of hi chews (the authentic hi chews and not the ones you buy at Lucky's). You can tell all the candy in the bins are fresh and delicious! My absolute favorite that I ALWAYS have to get are the chocolate covered gummy bears, the gummy bears with the gummy filling (trust me you have to try it), and the sour belts. read more

This sweets and treats shop is the perfect size and in the perfect place for good quality business. Candy box has the candy collection I would have at home if it wasn't for the fact that I have absolutely no will power - my wicked sweet tooth controls me. I'm here way too often - as evidenced by the hefty girth of my ass, AKA the ass that Candy Box built. The only place nearby to find my favorites: gummy lychee, gummy mango, dried spicy mangoes, chocolate Poky, tamarind with chile. This place has a quick turn-around, so their product seems always to be fresh, soft and chewy. Yes, you can get your run-of-the-mill gummy bears and jelly bellies and the like, and their collection of jawbreakers is bewilderingly extensive. The sweet lady behind the counter has an infectious effervescent personality and always gives me samples of new items - well, but maybe it's because I'm such a regular - not sure if this is regular practice. Beware the massive selection of toys at the entrance and at your feet - easy to step, trip, or maim a knock-off Transformer robot if you're not aware. read more

I usually dont do candy stores but this place is nice. The lady that works here is very nice. First time i went, she gave me and my buddies like 10 different samples of new candies she got from japan. This is like the JDM candy store. They have all my favorites. The hichew (chewy fruit flavored candies, like starburst but better) the cubyrop the asian flavored hard candy. There is two flavors with two little cubes of cubyrop in each package so you can mix the flavors and taste the goodness. My favorite thing to get at this candy store is the CHOCOLATE COVERED GUMMY BEARS, damn these are the best. A buddy of mines that recently moved to LBC told me about these right before he left. I tried them and BAM they blew me away. You might not think chocolate covered gummy bears are tasty but dont knock them until you try them.I drive a good 15 mins to get these bad boys. 5 Stars for the Candy Box read more

What a find! Leaving the shopping center, spotted this tiny store crammed with stuffed animals, candy and toys. Candy box carries an unbelievable variety of candy flavors/combinations. So I would come here even if they didn't sell the bomb ass candy! The lady who runs the place is super cool! Just as everyone else mentioned, she gives you samples upon samples of the good stuff...I came in to buy the dried cuttle fish and some chocolate pebbles...The store is a little overwhelming from trinkets, toys and even the famous barking toy dog that she always has out the front door. But, after I had already purchased my stuff she reaches behind the counter and offers us some hi-chew (?)...I am an instant fan! I've tried it before but i never knew where to buy it. I do now! Candy Box has a good selection of american and asian candy! They even have dried fruits including the shuang mei that all the asians enjoy eating on roadtrips! I always get the Coca-Cola bottle and panda gummies and the watermelon gummies (I think these are their best selling)! Other than candy that you can buy by pound, they also have candy from Asia that you probably won't be able to find here (even at the Asian markets). I like how they have candies where you choose and put in a bag just like in Hong Kong , but I just wish they had a better selection . The sour Mario gummies , the big cow gummy , and gummy-filled gummy bears weren't that great . The panda gummies were not bad they don't have much of them . The strawberry gummy with jelly filling was okay but I just wish they had a cream filling instead of a jelly filling because it tastes kind of weird . The watermelon gummy was pretty good . My family and I have been visiting Pacific East Mall ever since I was little, and I was always a little sketched out by this place because of the electronic moving and barking animals on display in the front (reminds me a little too much of Chinatown), but it's actually not bad at all! The Candybox is surely a treat for lovers of Asian snacks. There you can find dozens of gums from Japan, dried goods from China, salted snacks from Taiwan and other knick-knacks the like. I'm a big fan of pocky, and of course they have it there. They even have the giant-sized ones. But if you're not a connoisseur of sweets, you can easily find some delightful plush toys there that are of your favorite anime characters: Naruto, Mario Brothers, Totoro, just to name a few. And lastly, for those who enjoy making things, they still carry a few Gundam model sets as well as other plastic figures for your mantel. I have never actually seen this place open. It makes me so angry because my daughter always insists on going, only to be disappointed to find out that it's closed, even when it's supposed to be open!
