This Stop and Shop has improved a lot over the past year. There aren't noticeable sketchy people hanging out in the parking lot anymore but it's still a shell if its former self when it was a bustling Market Basket where all the local high school kids (including my daughter & her boyfriend) had their first jobs. The produce is fresh, the staff is really nice while the prices are high and the meat & fish are subpar. The ambience is 'meh'. The staff at the front seem nice. The deli staff can't be bothered. The items are extremely expensive compared to competitors. I've been in the store a total of 3 times. First time the produce and meats purchased went bad the next day. Second time the self checkout was such a pain to use I walked away and went to a cashier with a line. Third time I only went in because I got a gift card but once I saw how expensive everything was I put it all back and gave the gift card away. Don't shop this awful store. read more

I only shop here if my only option, every time I walk into the store I'm hit by the smell of fish.

I don't know if there are other Stop and Shops in Andover, but if not, my first question is, "Is this the best you can do?" I understand it's a fairly new store, having previously been a Market Basket previously. It's also much smaller than your typical Stop and Shop. But that means some sacrifices have to be made. For example, today we were looking for a particular magazine. This store does not have an aisle with magazines, just a limited selection at the registers (we got the magazine at another Stop and Shop later in the day). One thing I did like was the produce department, but only from the waist up. It's fairly compact but well stocked. It had some good loss-leaders, but as usual, things which were not on sale were not bargains. Also, there was a combination of loose produce and trash on the floor, meaning the area had not been swept recently. In fact, just about every aisle had scuffed floors or trash somewhere. I counted 4 self-checkouts, which is a good number for a store of this size. read more

I'm giving two stars for the friendly staff that is also willing to help if you can't find something. What I don't get about this store is how small and cramped it feels, especially when the Market Basket which previously occupied the space (and which I miss) was HUGE by comparison with wide aisles that had plenty of room for two carriages to pass. It seems like there's barely any shelf space, too. I realize the design was no doubt dictated by S&S's corporate headquarters, but it's terrible. Not only are the aisles narrow and claustrophobic, but some areas are dark...especially near the entrance and some of the first couple of aisles after the produce area. Every Market Basket store I've visited by comparison has plenty of space everywhere and is well illuminated. Also, I hate how this store puts the insect pesticides and poison right next to the cat food...really??? These products don't belong near any food for humans OR pets. Never seen that done in any grocery store before. Lastly, beware if you decide to buy grapes at any Stop & Shop. My mother encountered a huge spider that came from a bag of grapes harvested outside of the U.S...it was either a black widow or possibly a small tarantula. read more

Not bad.... But not good either. Ok, so I'm going to begin with the fact that I REALLY miss our Market Basket! Somehow the space per square foot I believe is the same? Perhaps not.... The layout is just not customer friendly. There are way too many items stuffed at end caps,crowded aisles.... You get the picture. I'm sensitive to odors that don't agree with me... and highly allergic to most seafood. There have been times when I've walked past the fish counter, and have definitely felt the need to block my nose. Yuck! I find the fresh produce area to be very good. They carry just about anything & everything , keeping it orderly and clean... But it can be pricey. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a fresh markdown... they are usually good dealls if you know you will be using the item right away. I have mixed feelings regarding the staff at the checkout area...its hit or miss all depending on who assists you & their mood of the day. But .other than that I'll be honest that I have no other reason to shop there. read more

General Manager Joe Manganaro and his crew are the BEST! We have approached Joe and his staff on several occasions to support local non-profit events such as the Step Up for Colleen 5K and Run for the Troops 5K for donations and they have gone above and beyond our expectations. This Andover store has supported the above events in the past by donating refreshments to both. Our most recent donation request was for floral centerpieces for one of these pre-race events. Who would have known (1) they have a professional floral designer on staff (2) they can custom design anything in advance or on the spot (3) they cater to small and large events (weddings, corporate events, etc.) and (4) they WANT to be present and involved in our community and community events. My colleague and I arrived at the store to preview two centerpieces that the floral designed had made based on a photo we provided. They were lovely but one may have been too tall for the table and the other, a little too small. After we put our heads together, she happily designed another arrangement for us on the spot ...which was absolutely gorgeous and what we envisioned. Not only did the GM Joe stay with us the entire time, the regional produce manager, Lou, and several other department managers were present too. We felt so very important and special. Mind you, these will be donated by this store to our event. We both frequently shop in this store and love the staff and the size (if you forget something, you don't have to walk miles to the other side to get it). Yes, it's not a big store just based on footprint so it's not expected to have everything that everyone may be looking for but they are more than willing to oblige with special orders. We were fans before and our latest experience has made us even bigger fans! Thank you Joe, Lou and the entire Andover store for supporting our events and the Andover Community. read more

The store has limited selection, but is generally convenient. We have had two "bad meat" purchases in the last month. In both cases we opened the meat the day after we purchased it and it already smelled terrible. On the first occasion we were hosting a BBQ and had to throw out the wings. On the second occurrence we just threw the meat away. Fresh cut meat from the butcher is good, but we will never buy from the packaged meat area again. read more

Joe and his team are amazing. Two weeks ago a customer dropped an envelope with a large amount of money in it and a staff member found it and was able to give it back to its rightful owner. This is just one of many stories I have witnessed while shopping there. read more

I love the associates here at Stop and Shop!! All of the cashiers and baggers are wonderful. They are very professional and nice. It's like meeting family members when you gone in there wonderful. My only suggestion is cleaning up the deli staff. There is a worker glasses hair in a sloppy ponytail I think he is the supervisor. He wiped his nose and scratched his head with his hands Touched the chickens and boxes. I was so mortified I couldn't order one. A few others times I have seen associates cough and sneeze and letting there germs spray everywhere. Horrified! If the front staff were not as exceptional as they always are I would call the board of health. The deli is the worst part of the store. read more

Beware: This is the most poorly run supermarket I've ever had the misfortune to shop in. It's expensive, poorly stocked and staffed with well meaning but un-trained staff. (There are exceptions; a friend of ours works here, and he's one of the store's few assets.) The store is open until 10pm, but come shopping for produce most eves after 8:30pm and you'll find most of the produce already put away for the night. WTF? Came here for a can chickpeas one time. Out of stock. Came here for dried lentils another time. Out of stock. Bread flour another time. Out of stock. Actually, they've usually out of bread flour. I bake a lot, and a steady source of bread flour would have given me more reason to shop here. So on two occasions I left messages for the manager requesting that they consider carry the King Arthur brand of bread flour. Never heard from anyone. I continued to shop here because it's a 1 minute drive from home and because it shares a strip mall with our favorite liquor store and a couple of our favorite restaurants. But after tonight, I'm done. Red, orange and yellow peppers were on sale for 99 cents each. So I bought 5 peppers: 2 red, 2 yellow and 1 orange. I used self checkout (always do) and with only a small basket of groceries, and no one in line, I expected to be done in a few minutes. I tried pricing the red peppers, but the wrong price came up the first couple of tries. I looked for help, but no one happened to be around. So I tried punching in 5 yellow peppers (remember, all 3 colors were priced the same)...and it worked.... $4.95 for the 5. The machine voice says "put your yellow peppers on the belt" just as an employee happens to pass by my lane and notice the bag of mixed colored peppers. She shakes her head and says I have to run the peppers through again, each color separately. WTF? She starts to explains that it's an inventory thing...if I punch them all in as yellow, the store's inventory system won't have the correct information. I started to explain that the red peppers were coming up incorrectly, and I was in a hurry, and they were all the same price and maintaining the store's inventory system was not a customer chore, but she just shook her head and started to re-scan everything. Short version: It took her about 7-8 minutes more of struggling to get the separate colors scanned in. She reassured me that she had removed the earlier scans of mine, but when I reviewed my receipt, it included charges for 7 peppers, not 5. I spent another 5-6 minutes at customer service desk as the young man there kept working and working on removing the 2 extra peppers from my receipt in order to refund my $2. He was struggling and talking to himself and not making any effort to explain what the problem was. Well, the gelato I'd just bought was starting to thaw so, exasperated, I finally told him to keep his $2, I'd retrieve it some other time. He never even made eye contact with me. Awful!! Idk what the deal is w this location but it's horrible. I bought some chicken wings yesterday that were "managers special ". I get home and fill a pot with oil. Get it heating up to fry them. Make my sauce while it's heating. Open the wings and they are rancid!! I'm not talking a little pungent I'm talking my whole apt smelled like a dead body!! Worst grocery store experience of my life!! I hate to write this and I've never come to YELP before, but I just have to say this. This store is nothing, but a disappointment every single time I go. It has consistently gone down hill since it changed from Market Basket. It's probably at an all time low. This review goes back to before Covid. There are never enough lanes open and always people just hanging around. Just plan on always using the self service. The deli staff are so nice and my favorite part of the store, but it has been closing at 3:00 pm due to staffing so I haven't been able to get anything there since I work. The Stop and Shop in North Andover is so well run that I just cannot understand the Andover location. Everyone I know says it is the most useless store. I have stopped going there and given most of my business to Market Basket in North Andover. Occasionally I run into Stop and Shop quickly and I am ALWAYS mad that I did. Seriously- I haven't had one good experience in years. I've heard the manager makes his own hours and leaves at 3:00 everyday.....maybe that's why this place is a disaster. This Stop and Shop is wonderful! I go there all the time; it's friendly, the staff is courteous and the manager is gracious. However, I have noted something the past year. That is, on separate occasions I purchased a turkey, some pork chops and a pork loin that were all on sale. However, when I got them home and opened the plastic wrap them each was spoiled. I don't mean they looked 'funny' or were a little odd smelling, I mean even the kids said, "What smells so bad." Needless to say, as they were discounted by quite a lot I didn't want to return them. I wonder if someone there could check on the meats before they put them on sale so that, even though it's not a lot of money, I'd prefer to not waste it. read more

We got married on September 1st. Samantha Hoagland (Manager of Florist Department) did all the flowers for the wedding. The flowers were beautiful. The flowers were fresh and vivid colors. I do more and more shopping here -- the management and staff are super helpful and always go out of their way to ensure you find what you're looking for -- their weekly sales are good, I prefer their meat/poultry to that of other grocery stores and they're open later -- it's not the biggest S&S, but they know that and only once I had to go to the 114 store for something -- I'm glad to have them in Andover! read more

Just visited this store for the first time today. For its small size, it actually has enough to satisfy most grocery shoppers in my opinion. It has a full service seafood shop, bake shop, and florist which isn't common for non-super Stop and Shops and is quite clean too. The store seems very quiet though. Hopefully they get more business on the weekends as I went in the middle of a workday. read more
