Bought some red velvet cakes from Stop & Shop and I guess with them being on sales they can deceive people buying them because they were dry and unedible. Cream was tasty but they actual cake I couldn't eat even with milk. If they getting close to the sale by day just throw them away or give to a food pantry or the homeless but to sell them knowing they on their last legs is unacceptable. I don't really like Stop & Shop at all... honestly if I could rate the place 0 stars I would have considered it. The saving grace for this location is their staff. Whenever I can't find something in the produce section there seems to always be someone around to help and I feel like the overall layout of this store isn't constantly changing like several other stores I used to go to. Unless I want to drive all the way to Shop Rite and waste almost 15 minutes driving each way, I'm stuck going here. I wouldn't save enough money to make it worth while though, so I keep going here. If you have other options in the area, such as Shop Rite or Costco, then I'd suggest going there instead. Of course there is an added convenience of a PNC bank and Starbucks inside, but a trip here still isn't worth it in my opinion. read more

Worst customer service ever!! I was the only one waiting for the person in front of me to be finished at customer service. As they finished, another person got in line behind me. When the employee finished, she went to the person behind me and said, are you here for lottery tickets? The woman said no. Then she asks me the same thing, but I was shocked that she would help the person behind me. Then the employee asks me "What do you want?" I literally thought she was talking to a co-worker. What happened to "How can I help you?" As soon as she said this, a co-worker came to help me as she could see how rude this employee was being to me. If that wasn't bad enough, I went to the produce department looking for organic avocados. I asked an employee if they have organic avocados. As he turns his back to me and walks away, he says "If they are not on the shelf, we don't have any." I don't know where the shelf is!! If I knew where they were, I wouldn't ask you. I decided to shop at this store, because they have the Scan-It technology, which allows me to scan and bag my items while I shop, so I don't feel flustered and rushed at checkout. I chose to do Scan It because I was not feeling well, which is an important detail to the next part. I normally do check expiration dates when I shop, but not on every item. At my usual grocery stores, this is not an issue. However, since my concentration was low, I didn't remember to check during this trip. It was only after I got home and after a day or so, began to try to use the food I bought, that I found out that most of the items were beyond their expiration dates. In a few cases, the expiration date was a year ago. This means that the staff of this store is not bothering to keep the stock fresh, which puts me at risk. It was easy to see in the produce section, where I simply avoided the rotten and wilted vegetables on display. But for canned and boxed goods, where it's harder to read the expiration dates or I forget, that means this store can't be trusted. If you shop here, be alert and read the dates on every single thing you pick off their shelves. read more

I hate this place, but if I need something in the area, I have basically zero choice now since they shut down Good Fortune, at least for the time being. Coming in here is always a nightmare for many many reasons but the primary ones for me are the cost, the customers, the terrible service and the horrid quality. The vegetable always look awful and are way too expensive. A good example would be the single, anemic-looking bunch of 5-6 scallions for which they wanted I believe $1.18, where as 3 healthy and full bundles of scallions go for $1 usually at Good Fortune, and currently $1.88 at H-Mart. You'll see the same thing all over, poor quality vegetables at a really high price. There's no local vegetables or anything decent. I bought a small bag of potatoes here last week and they're already sprouting eyes all over and smell bad, so that's another waste of money right there. Their meats are really offputting. They only carry I believe Purdue chickens, no Bell & Evans or anything local. Meat cuts are pretty limited, nothing outside of the usual stuff and a lot of times the lack of quality of cuts is really visible. If you come later in the evening, sometimes they won't bother to restock anything and then there'll be empty shelves and a million shipping crates laying all over the store. I have gone in here at least 4-5 times to find they have no plain yogurt, or no cream, or none of other really basic seeming things. That plus the awful and slow cashiers means it takes way too long to get anything in here. Cannot wait for Good Fortune to get themselves sorted out because 9x out of 10, if I don't need yogurt, I would so much rather go in there first. read more

I am the Director of a non-profit organization that provides a summer camp and other activities to children with cancer. One of our campers set up a fundraiser to take place outside this store. She spoke with a manager over a month ago and had it all arranged. The day of the fundraiser the manager, Don, said he did not have the fundraiser on the calendar and it could not take place. I told him I would immediately send him any information he needs and he rudely said no. He was the rudest most inconsiderate person I've ever dealt with in a customer service capacity. I explained how this is very disappointing to the young lady who set this up and Don did not care! I will never shop in this store again and I will make sure everyone I talk to knows about this situation. read more

I absolutely hate this store. I never leave the store feeling less than annoyed and sometimes in pain from having to bag and load my own groceries. The floorplan is confusing and awkward and the aisles are small, shelves are often bare of the item(s) I need. The employees don't have a bit of a problem blocking you or pushing past you always taking the right of way. I have literally seen Managers walking the store and chatting all while having nothing to do with the customers or the service. Too many "check yourself out" lanes that no one knows how to use or 12 items or less with maybe 2 cashiers open to check your groceries. There is absolutely NO bagging assistance other than the customer and the cashier trying to rush doing it because, yes, the line is growing and customers are irritated. My favorite was when there were three managers standing in front of the customer service desk with their arms folded. Another customer/cashier was having issues with her card, when the cashier was finally able to get a manager's attention, the dis-shuffled "manager" sighed and walked over as if she was being inconvenienced. Stop & Shop needs to send some people to Florida to see how Publix runs their grocery stores, they could learn a million ways on how to get and keep loyal customers. I feel very sorry for the cashiers, who always seem pleasant, but overworked. And I must say there was ONE young man, very (very) tall African American who EVERY single time I went in was working rings around everyone else. I haven't seen him lately, maybe he got a better job, I sure hope so. read more

OK so stop and shop isn't my primary grocery store, and rightfully so BUT its THE BEST option for my needs. Is does a great job of pulling you of of them "Ohh S**t" moment. In nut shell Stop N Shop does a bang up job as a fallback plan B option. Plus its open till 2 am for when the midnight hunger strikes. There wouldn't be any better option than Stop N Shop for my needs atleast. That being said I wouldn't mind a Wegmans or the lease a Shoprite but for now Stop N Shop will do. read more

I have been shopping here for the past year since I moved here. I've been annoyed by the produce, but I've figured it out, but now I am done with this place. Last Sunday, Father's Day, we purchased some meat from the Stop and Shop in Franklin Park, NJ. That was in the afternoon and by that evening when we went to grill the steak, we noticed the white dots (fly eggs) and a fly buzzing around... INSIDE THE PACKAGING! We brought the steak back that night, very upset, and the manager we spoke too was very apologetic, stated that it was most appalling thing he had seen, offered a gift card (which we declined for the moment) and collected our information with the understanding that the store manager would call us back. I went food shopping on Friday for a weekend away. Of the three steaks I had bought, one was grey on the bottom and smelled rancid when we took it out of the package on Saturday. We had to throw it away. On Sunday we opened the grapes. The inner ones were all stuck together with white fuzzy mold that I couldn't see from the outside. I threw the entire bag away. So instead we decided to try the peaches I had bought. They were all just starting to get soft. Nope, they were dry and mushy on the inside. Once again - threw them away. Unfortunately this is our local store. The next closest store is +10-15 minutes away. It works for paper, packaged, or canned goods but if you want something fresh, you are literally throwing your money away. read more

This grocery store has the absolute worst produce I have ever seen in my entire life... I could walk to this store from my apartment and would rather drive 20 minutes to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. I've been trying to give Stop & Shop a chance for the past six months and every time I go and I'm disappointed. The prices are extremely high... Way higher than Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. And the Quality is seriously lacking. I had to dig through 20 bags of packaged lettuce and I found one that was halfway decent. Their produce is never fresh. I Love This Store Because Of Its Personnel. Shopped here today and had a pleasant conversation with an employee named Kevin (who works in Maintenance). He was very mannerly. I could easily see him working directly with the public. As far as the Franklin Park store in general, I've been shopping here for years and never had a problem with any of their personnel. So I called the store to leave a compliment and spoke with Megan. She was also sweet. I absolutely despise this grocery store. I shop here because Stop and Shop has a monopoly on South Brunswick. The only redeeming qualities about this store is that it is nearby and they attempt to have a large selection. First, the produce is poor in quality yet high in price. Fresh produce for the week consistently costs between $10 and $20 more than in Shoprite. The produce is frequently moldy, bruised or mushy/soft (e.g., celery should be crispy not soft). Second, the meat selection is terrible and costly (similar to fruits and vegetables). Third, there are only self check out lanes open. Of the last 5 times I've had to go here, there were at least 4 or 5 self checkout lanes open and only 1 lane with a cashier. I can understand this is if it is 9 pm at night. I cannot understand this when it is 6:15 pm on a Tuesday evening or on a Sunday afternoon. The computer sensors function poorly, so it takes me double the time (with several visits by the clerk) to scan my overpriced, poor quality produce. If I wanted to be a cashier, I would apply for that job. Finally, with all of that square footage, i would expect the shelves to be stocked. Apparently these are unrealistic expectations because more often than not, the shelves are not restocked. Should you shop here after 7:30pm, do not expect to find your items. When you decide on an alternative, go wait in a self check out line to purchase the overpriced, poor quality item you really didn't want, but are settling for anyway. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. The customer service desk is full of rude people who constantly have an attitude and don't look happy to even be there. The whole time they try and rush you and give you even more of an attitude when you ask a question. The cashiers are rude and miserable and also have a very bad attitude. The store itself is disgusting and dirty, the fruit is unorganized and always all over the place as well. The only kind people there are the Starbucks employees who greet you with a warm welcome and bright smile. This store is overly crowded, and workers are always on there phones or having a conversation with another employee as you're trying to ask a question as well. I don't recommend going to this store because you will leave unhappy and probably not have all your groceries since no one pays attention. read more

It was my son and I's first time ever coming here and my son is only 10 years old. As I was walking around the store a man in a MAGA hat was following us around. I believe he was the manager because another employee who looked new was asking him for help. Eventually we checked out and I intentionally left a toy, that I paid for out of my bag so my son could play with it and the man stopped dead in front of my path and snapped on my ten year old child. He snatched the toy from his hands and demanded to see his receipt and when I stepped in another security came up to us and gave us trouble. We did pay for everything and there was no reason to suspect that my 10 year old , who I was watching the whole time would steal anything from their store. My baby left this store in tears and that man did not even apologize. I will never come here again. My family is a family of color and I do not appreciate my child being subjected to that mans ignorance. read more

The store isn't anything special to look at but that's not what it's always about anyway, but it's not exactly modern or aesthetically pleasing like some newer or remodeled places. The store's selection is OK most times, but it seems like every time I go there looking for something specific they don't have it. The bakery is decent quality-wise and their selection of danishes, muffins, doughnuts, and rolls is average IMO. Shop Rite in North Brunswick has a much better bakery. The deli counter is average as well. I prefer to use their ordering kiosk to order my meats and then walk around the store to shop until my order number is called over the PA. In my limited interactions with the deli staff, they're not exactly the friendliest bunch. I know it's hard dealing with people barking meat and cheese orders at you all day but fake the funk as they say. Produce - below average unless you get there first thing. It's weak if you go in the afternoon and forget the evening. Cashiers - I mostly use the self check out aisles but there is usually a line since no one wants to use the manned cashiers. The self check out lines usually have a problem of some sort whether it's user error or the scanners or belts being temperamental. Some of the staff is friendly but it depends on which day you catch some of them. I remember one time, this younger woman who still works there was irritated by customers walking in front of her as she was storming her way back to the flower shop. She dropped the F bomb - nice huh? Professionalism at its finest. If it wasn't for the convenient location, I'd probably never go this place but it's the closest thing to my house. We prefer the Shop Rite on 130 by a mile. The only redeeming thing about this store is that it has a Starbucks and most of the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The Starbucks manager is incredibly nice and enjoyable to speak with. read more

I give this supermarket a one star because I had to give a star in order to rate. I'm from out of town visiting a friend and visited your supermarket this morning. While in the cheese department one of STOP & Shop workers (I found out his name later was Brian) pass by me with a cart full of boxes stacked high and a box fell off the cart and hit me in the head. I told the guys "excuse me but you loss a box and it hit me"...he stopped looked dead in my face and picked up his box. I told him that words to use are "excuse me, sorry, pardon me...etc" and he just rolled his eyes and kept going. I spoke to Steve the manager and told him about the incident and he said he would talk to him and kept stocking his shelve. The Franklin Park Stop & Shop is alright but nothing terribly special or out-of-the-ordinary. The Starbucks located inside is a nice perk, but otherwise I come here because it's the closest grocery store to where I live - I wouldn't go out of my way to shop here, in any case, and prefer Shoprite personally. This location is often quite pricey and the customer service is hit or miss (from my experience, the employees aren't too friendly). However, I do like their extensive organic food aisle, which has a nice variety of cereals, pasta, and specialty sodas/drinks, as well as having some non-organic brands I don't usually see elsewhere. All in all, it's nothing to write home about, but for convenience's sake, it does the trick. I appreciate the hours as well - knowing it's open until midnight most nights helps when I've got late-night cravings or happened to be a forgetful goober and need to make a quick ingredient run. read more

I'm not sure whether or not the following is related to the recent closing of the Monmouth Junction store, but in the past three weeks, I've purchased from all three remaining Franklin township stores meats that smelled bad upon opening. In fact, I've just recovered from a severe case of food poisoning that maybe related to consuming meat that I consumef the same day it was purchased, but still didn't smell as fresh as I thought it should've. It turned out to be an awful mistake. The remaining product will be submitted to the Department of Health. The chain's meat and produce is the worse I've ever encountered and their fancy exteriors and layouts are deceptive. In addition, their prices are extremely high. It can be compared to paying Wegman type prices for bodega quality goods. BUYER BEWARE. read more

I wouldn't even want to give one star to this place. The product department is hazardous. All the berries always have mold in it. To buy strawberries there you have to go on a treasure hunt mission because you will never find one that doesn't have some sort of mold issue in the box. Also all the other berries are awful and have mold in it too. I bought a bag of romaine lettuce and when I opened the bag it was covered with mold. A box of cherries were just sitting around and you could just see the mold in it. The prices are ridiculously high for moldy items. I have complained on multiple occasions but every time I go there I find mold in the fruits. I have also heard from others about their meat department having bad meat issues. I think the health department should come in and do something about this. We feed these fruits and vegetables to our kids. We don't need to run to the hospital after eating fruits and vegetables. read more
