This is one of my favorite places to shop for groceries. It is a very good sized store and I can always find everything I need. Their meat and deli departments are great and the meats and cheeses are always delicious and fresh tasting. I like their bakery department as well and the muffins, cookies and cakes are always very good. They also offer some excellent pies here. The store is always kept clean and well stocked. They run some really good specials here on groceries so shopping here is very affordable. The cashiers here keep the lines moving at a very good clip. I rarely shop at this location and realized that this particular store seems to be bigger. Brighter. Yet the produce and shelves seem to jump at me for some reason. Lots of activity around yet a nice shop day! Checked on some prices and noticed that this location seems abit less expensive not sure if its location or this store focuses on other items on sale! It was a nice morning to see lots of great prices even though gas and oil hasn't affected its deliveries on prices as of yet! I might have to come back and spend more time finding good deals . They recently changed their hours, and aside the weird pricing per neighborhood you are in which seems a bit unfair, When groceries are needed and in the area, they have what i want and convienent parking. Staff never been a problem for me, usually in and out quick with my milk, baking items or quick proteins for dinner. They do have self checkout lane and that's what i utilize the most. Never had to return anything so never dealt with customer service. read more

This Stop & Shop was one of my go to grocery stores for many years, mostly because they used to be open late until 12am. (The other Stop & Shop in Quincy, on Southern Artery, is still open until 12am daily). Honestly, I like any grocery store that is open late. I like going here because they, more or less, have everything I need or want for groceries for decent prices. They always seem to have sales on items I typically would reach for at full price... LOVE THAT. Typically I love going to Wegmans or Whole Foods, but sometimes I don't wanna pay Whole Foods prices or drive on the highway to get to the nearest Wegmans when Stop&Shop is local, convenient, & does the job! I had a disappointing experience at the Stop & Shop on Newport Avenue in Quincy, MA, on Saturday, November 1st, between 4:20 and 4:30 PM in the deli department. At the time, there were three deli attendants -- two Black men and one Caucasian man -- all assisting another customer with a large order. I had been waiting patiently to be helped next, and since the ticket dispenser wasn't working, customers were being served in the order they arrived. While the attendants were still working on the first order, another woman walked up to the counter. The Caucasian attendant -- tall, thin, with a mustache and short beard, appearing to be in his mid-to-late 20s -- went out of his way to call out to her, saying he would help her next, completely ignoring me even though I was directly in front of him. The other employees and even the customer being helped looked surprised -- she even turned to me and said, "Weren't you next?" One of the other attendants quickly stepped in to assist me and mouthed an apology, which I appreciated. To be candid, the situation felt racially motivated, though I truly hope that wasn't the case. Regardless of intent, it was embarrassing and uncomfortable. What made it worse is that trying to find a manager afterward or reach someone by phone was impossible, and Stop & Shop's website offers no clear way to file a formal complaint. I've shopped here for years, but this experience really changed how I feel about this store. The review is from two weeks ago by google by they hided it, which I need to find another place to repost: I usually have a positive experience shopping at Stop & Shop, but today was different. Around 4:45 PM, at Register 22 (Express Checkout), I had a very unpleasant encounter with a cashier named Christine. My friend and I had picked out three discounted beef cuts and an onion, but when we were informed that the beef wasn't on sale as we thought, we decided to keep just two pieces. Christine immediately grabbed the one we decided not to purchase and tossed it over to the neighboring register in a very dramatic manner. After that, she continued the checkout process with a visibly upset and unwelcoming demeanor. What stood out most was her sudden change in attitude. She was perfectly polite to the customer before us, but as soon as we mentioned the change, her face soured. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but as an Asian customer, it did feel like there was a noticeable shift in her behavior. Furthermore, as a staff member, it's part of her job to put returned items back in their proper place. There was no need to throw the beef so carelessly in front of us. It was clear she was frustrated, and that's not the level of customer service I expect. I called the manager (Chen Heilong) to explain the situation, and was told they would have a conversation with Christine. However, based on my experience, I'm not sure much will change. I shop here often, but this was the first time I've encountered such poor service. All I have to say is u know I had a terrible experience if I'm writing a review about a SUPERMARKET. Their machines were down and only taking cash. When I asked Justin young kid with glasses he told me he has no idea what's going on, didn't know if it was reported and when it would be fixed and that there just going with the flow. What? He told me he was a supervisor , how do u not know what's going on? The machines break and no one reports it or gets any type of info to try to fix it? Now kids and families are leaving carts and walking out. He assumed people had cash to take out and many claimed they only had ebt and now couldn't eat or even plan to come back because they gave NO INFORMATION. The store itself has some good items but everything is laid out oddly. The big thing for me was that they told me they don't accept out of state IDs when buying alcohol. It may not sound like a huge deal but I'm not exactly close to 21. If they are going to blanket reject ids from out of state it's kind of silly and unnecessary, it made me want to return what I'd bought and say I'd rather buy what I need somewhere else. The person behind the counter said they'd take my ID "just this once" making it seem like a favor. I don't need a favor, I'm a paying customer with valid ID. I'm not sure what would make them blanket reject out of state IDs but it sounds like a store issue that they're turning into a customer problem. I'd recommend shopping somewhere else. read more

I did an online order for pick up at 65 newport location in Quincy Ma. it was an error on sale item which did not take off on my order. I called got the runaround finally spoke to this rude supervisor Harley which said she can give me $5 credit when I should of been credited $6.30 when I told her that was stealing she gave me a custoner service number to call which was the wrong number to speak with online customer. I ended up calling the customer service number on the order receipt and the young lady was Awesome. Harley on the other hand need to take course on customer service a horrible example as a supervisor. read more

You need to double check your receipts as they do these things called "digital coupons" in order to get certain sales items and then they do not always give you the items that you loaded the coupon for. I was there recently and I purchased two Breyers ice creams which were advertised for 2 for $6. Their digital only offered the coupon for $4 for one even though the flyer clearly said 2 for $6. When I checked the receipt at the store before paying they were still at $4 each and we needed to get a clerk to correct the error. These " Digital Coupons" are a scam to try to let you think you are getting something on sale and if you do not load the coupon correctly they overcharge you. Even when you load the coupons you need to double check every item to make sure that you are getting the correct price. read more

This review is specifically for the florist within Stop and Shop. I usually come here to get flowers for Mother's Day or special events and gifts. While the florist section is small, I would say they always have a wide range of selection with a great price range. There have been times where I've found a bouquet of flowers for $7. You could also find something more elegant for special occasions for upwards of $35-40. I appreciate that range of selection. The last time I came here was for a more elegant vase that I was going to give to my grandmother who lost a brother. When the florist saw that I had picked an 'I'm sorry for your loss' card she immediately told me she would make me a fresh bouquet of flowers because the one I had picked was slightly wilted and wouldn't last as long. It was a tough day and I just really appreciated her making a new vase without me having to ask. I wish I would have snapped a picture of how beautiful the one she made on the spot was, but I'll just attach pictures of previous flowers I've purchased from the florist at Stop and Shop. Their flyer has weekly sales, but they don't carry the products. I have three "rain checks" but the items "didn't come in." I think it is not nice to advertise products you do not have -- even after weeks or months. A substitute should be offered. Some of the staff there seems nice enough, but many are clueless as to what to do with these problems. Even the person I spoke to at corporate was clueless as to what I was complaining about. And the self check section is full because they have no staff for shoppers who want or need a cashier. read more

This is my go to local supermarket. The prices are good, hours are great. (I'll shop on a Saturday night if it means I can get my shopping done fairly quickly.) They sell beer & wine too, which is convenient. I rarely have trouble finding a food item that's on my shopping list at this store. The one thing I don't recommend is their mobile scan it app. I tried it when they were offering a $10 off coupon at check out for using it, but the app didn't work well, and the coupon didn't print when I checked out! I always use the self checkout area, I'm fast, and there is usually no wait. I specifically use this area to avoid dealing with people. Its not enough the point of sale screen asks you to donate your change while paying with a card, now they have some dope interrupting you as you ring in your stuff asking if you'd like to donate money. I'm rushing in to buy a couple items to eat during my short lunch period, I'm not some philanthropic billionaire looking to give away my fortune. How many times can you ask for a freakin donation? I have no complaints about this location. I actually love the 24hrs 7 days a week schedule they have going on! And on top of that they accept Google pay!! I literally can just go in with my phone and don't have to freak out if I were to forget my wallet. The only thing I don't appreciate here is that there is this one lady that occasionally monitors the self checkout stations. I will probably never forget her existence and avoid her if she's within my radar. I had trouble with checking out a produce and she literally treated me like I was stupid for scanning the barcode. I can still remember her annoyed tone saying "you have to put in the code, not scan the barcode." Well lady I don't work here, dont put barcodes on things that aren't meant for scanning then! It wouldn't have bothered me as much if she was just friendlier about the whole situation. Side note, I love Marty. It's funny seeing a machine broadcast spills in the isles. Stop & Shop is headquartered in Quincy, MA, so you could probably consider this Stop & Shop's "anchor store." The location is HUGE! The produce section has anything you can think of and is usually fairly well-priced. Peppers are almost always either $1 each or 3/$5. Carrots are sometimes $1 per bag and asparagus is usually on sale. Chicken breast prices can range from $1.99 per pound to $3.99 per pound depending on whether or not there is a sale that day. As a former Big Y shopper, I find that some of the pre-packaged goods to be more expensive. I can't find whole wheat bread for less than $2 and their meats section is pretty overpriced in general. Even the store brand products are more expensive than the Big Y brand. Overall, I think this is one of the better Stop & Shop's that I've seen (of the 5 that I've visited), but that still doesn't make it somewhere that I want to Stop and Shop every day (get it?). If you want mid-priced generic groceries in Quincy, this is probably one of the best places to go, but being 2 miles from the Stop & Shop headquarters, I would have expected better. read more

In comparison to the store on Southern Artery, this place is a breath of fresh air. Yes, this is the flagship Stop&Shop, and used to be open twenty four hours. Those days are gone; however, they are still open until 6-midnight every day (including Sunday!). Every department has the most expanded selection you could possibly ask for from a supermarket, including multiple aisles dedicated to Beer and Wine, and a pharmacy. Huge Nature's Promise area here too. Ginormous parking lot at this location too. Even during the busiest times of the year, you will always be able to find a parking space. The staff are pretty good, I really appreciate all of the help I have received from many of the managers including Kristina and Bill. The managers keep changing, I can't keep up any longer! Overall, this is one of the nicest, cleanest Stop&Shop locations, and definitely one of the busiest. I would highly suggest it as "the place" to go grocery shopping in Quincy (sorry, but both the Star Market and Stop&Shop on 3A just DON'T cut it!). 4 stars. I come here do my grocery every week. Tonight I had most disgusting experience ever had. When I start waiting to pay my groceries, the cashier greeted black gentleman front of me, greeted white lady front of me. When it's my turn as an Asian man, I got no greeting but instead I got a silent unwelcome attitude. I know the employees here are unionized, however it doesn't mean discriminate one particular race of customers is allowed. Stop and shop, please properly train your employees, I think I need to escalate to the corporate level, since the corporate office is at Quincy too. Moved from Braintree to Quincy. Always shopped at Roche brothers but Stop and Shop is close. I order daily meats, bread and a few other items. I asked a kid where the 12 items or less line and he points to a line of about 35 shopping carts and says we don't do 12 items or less. I looked at him like he was kidding. The other chains have them. He shrugged. I told the kid that he could put the stuff away and I left my groceries with him. I would rather drive across town than wait wait 30 minutes in line with less then 12 items. Poor strategy and customer service on Stop and Shops behalf. They lost at least 1 customer read more

As far as all the Stop n Shops in the area, this location is #1 because I have a tendency to choose organic over conventional whenever it's practical and available. Their Nature's Promise line is by far the largest and I've visited both the Southern Artery and the Dorchester locations. If you're looking for the next grade up around the 5 mile radius, there's definitely the Whole Foods in Weymouth and Hingham and the Fruit Center Marketplace in Milton :) read more

Pros--Generally fairly well stocked -Convenient from where I live with large parking lot -Prices are reasonable, but not exceptional -Good late hours Cons- At times very overcrowded -Difficult to get anyone to help me if I have questions or can't find something. -When I shop, there is only one, or sometimes two cashiers available ---- there are several self-serve registers which can be difficult to operate and are obviously a cheap attempt to save money by not having adequate registers -The very few cashiers often have no baggers making the registers' line badly over long and time consuming. -The cashiers are often rude and unpleasant, understandable since they are overworked with very little help. -Lastly, there are personnel that are not only rude, but actually cuss at me. One guy in frozen-foods has cussed at me regularly, ie, if I slightly move a box to get at an item to buy! Further, the guy blasts his stereo down the aisle. I have tried to talk to this guy who will not talk. I have mentioned this to a management personnel who maybe BRIEFLY talked with him. This guy should either get mental help or be fired. It seems to me that management does NOT take responsibility for monitoring employees, either overworking them or not controlling people who don't know how treat paying customers. IN SUMMARY, I TEND TO SHOP HERE (20 YEARS) BECAUSE THE STORE IS CONVENIENT, WELL STOCKED, AND PRICES ARE ADEQUATE. THE PEOPLE ARE OFTEN RUDE, OVERWORKED, AND UNHELPFUL. I FIND THE DEGREE OF HELPFULLNESS/RESPECT FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER IS HIGHLY LACKING. What's with this place? I have never been able to get fresh eggs, (even those times as I watched the guy stack new egg boxes). The seafood looks terrible, I know about seafood as a former fisherman. Prepared foods like subs are skimpy. You just can't shop there and expect to exit with a nice selection of fresh food. However I have never had any complaints about employees. I don't expect them to get fancy though, just take care to provide appetizing food. Fact is, they don't care, they make a bundle even it tastes like crap. read more

This place is nuts. The shopping experience is generally okay. The store is big and has a good selection, and while there are some days when they'll just randomly not be stocking blackberries, or non-organic kale, or chicken breasts smaller than a family-size 8-pack, you can pretty much always find what you're looking for and not get run over by too many carts while you do it. But then you go to check out. They have around 20 checkout aisles, so it shouldn't be a problem, right? Not so. For all the managers they have lurking in the aisles and giggling with each other instead of acknowledging you standing there trying to ask them a question, they could try to staff more than three or four of the checkout aisles at a time. Maybe you think you'll beat the system and get into one of the self-checkout lanes? Not so fast. You're sure to get an error message on every tenth item, and since the same thing is happening to everyone else using a self-checkout, you'll be waiting for quite a while for the one (if that) designated self-checkout employee to come help you. At least they sell beer and wine though, right? Well, yes, except the underage employees can't sell you that (or even touch it), so be sure to pick an older employee's lane if you want to buy your booze without waiting for a manager to come proudly ask you for your ID in front of his younger colleague. But take care not to choose the cashier who picks up each item, scans it, bags it, straightens back up, resets, takes a sip of her Coke.......then moves onto the second item...........and so on, until you're very late for dinner. There's just no good way to get out of here, but there's also no better alternative nearby, and so each week I find myself back for more. I'd tell you when a good time to go is, but so far I haven't found one, so I'll just tell you that any weeknight between 5:30 and 8, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, and Sunday evening are all bad. Lovely flower selection, though. Buy yourself a bouquet next time you're there, because if you haven't earned it by the time you go in, you will have by the time you leave. read more

I used to shop at this Stop & Shop every Friday. They stopped selling a product I truly needed. I used to buy 20 to 30 of this product every Friday so when they stopped shelving it I ask if they could order a case or two every month. I offered to pay for the product upfront. The store manager and the dairy manager both told me it wouldn't be a problem. They would place the order the next morning. They never placed the order and when I would ask to speak to either of them they were never available. I found this to be extremely sketchy so I stopped shopping at any Stop & Shop's. read more

Lots to like about Stop & Shop generally, but this is far from their best store. Beer & wine are great, with pretty varied selection. Prices on everything are typically OK, and it's a mostly clean place too. The produce section is typically struggling, but honestly the #1 problem with this place are the cashiers, or lack thereof. The managers never staff enough people at the registers, and we've been there during peak and non-peak hours... doesn't matter, they're always understaffed. This one manager is there constantly and spends more time distracting employees than he does doing anything of value. And not only are they under-staffed, the cashiers are often poorly trained and seem to scan about one item per minute, then have to bag themselves because there's one bagger across all lines. All that to say: this store is better than other options in the area, but be prepared to always have long lines at the register and to have to deal with managers who don't give a shit about customer experience. read more
