This is by far the WORST grocery store to shop at in the Ridgewood, NJ area. I predict when Costco opens in Paramus this store will shut at doors within a year. Produce is consistently out of stock or rotten. Dairy products are consistently out of date. The store is dingy. The fresh meat range is lacking. The parking is awful. The half the staff is rude and unprofessional. There is obviously a staffing issue as products on the shelves are constantly unavailable and cashiers are few. There is a "service manager" there with long red hair and tattoos who works the front end. Her unprofessional demeanor is explosive. She has a terrible temper and her "RBF" is unmistakable. Avoid. This is a store that is union run (you can surely tell) and owned by Royal Ahold N.V. They head other chain stores in the US including Food Lion and Giant. With so many Stop & Shop stores in New Jersey on the chopping block as of late, this one is sure to follow suit to cut this one from their portfolio. Caveat Emptor read more

If you can survive the gauntlet of driving through downtown Ridgewood and then this even worse parking lot, you gain entrance to an "okay" grocery store. The other patrons are nasty and self absorbed. The will walk right in front of you, let their kid play chicken with your car or leave a cart directly in front of you and walk away. The flow of the parking lot is hazardous. The management slowly walks around with their mouths hanging open, looking like their in shock that people actually patronize this store. They avoid eye contact while simultaneously having conversations with other workers in the middle of the busy, narrow isles. The store is neat, but narrow and dated. They have an ok selection of products and their prices are decent. I would have given more stars, but this location lost them at check out. The cashier didn't greet us - she just started slamming our purchases against the scanner plate and tossing the items to the other end of the register. Soda, plastic cups, paper plates - all flung carelessly down for me to try to catch and put into my cart. Thank God I didn't buy eggs! We only came here because we were in the neighborhood and had to grab a few things. In the future, we'll just go out of our way to shop at a better store. read more

I'm here to complain about the management .. was there Saturday afternoon when 3 young preteen youngsters came in being so disrespectful, yelling , playing with beach balls bouncing them around the isles continuing to yell through out the store , I was getting afraid waiting for management to say something and nothing was said for awhile , they just continued to disrupt people shopping when finally a cashier said pleas stop , I was shocked that it took so long for someone to intervene, I won't be going there anymore, I didn't even feel safe food shopping, it's like management was afraid to say something,I wouldn't be surprised if they stole something , management would've let them steal .. too busy catering to disrespectful teens than people shopping and actually spending money read more

SS is my laid back, lazy man alternative to frenetic shopping at Fairway, TJoes or Whole Foods. It is our convenience store version of supermarkets. This is not hoy paloy central; so I keep my shopping list for here -- short. The meat and poultry quality and price is first rate. Produce is adequate in a pinch and they have all the basics, even a small bakery and a liquor store/pharmacy on the second floor. Stop and Shop in Ridgewood continues to get worse and worse. Some types of items are spread out across multiple aisles with no obvious signage to help you find those items. Stocking of items is wildly inconsistent. They carry major brands, but the specific items carried seem to change every few days. They also have too few cashiers to handle the number of shoppers. I was just in the store and several people chose to drop their goods and leave rather than wait to pay. The self checkout is a complete disaster - poorly organized and requiring store personnel to "assist", which defeats the very purpose of self checkout. I don't know if I will ever return to the store even though nothing else is as conveniently located. I have lived here for 30 years, and this store keeps getting worse every time they "modernize" or "renovate". Horribly managed, and they don't pay their employees well to boot. i view this place more so as a convenience store and usually just go there for snacks and drinks. I also go there for sushi sometimes or just for the premade sandwiches but nothing more than that. Jonesing for a post Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, I ran in for buns. I saw a good digital deal on OJ and thought, "that would be nice with my sandwich". Remembering that the last time so tried to use a digital coupon, I had to wait 15 minutes after loading on the app, I asked the clerk at the self checkout if I would have to wait. He directed me to customer service. At customer service, that clerk was deeply engaged with her phone and another employee. After waiting a few minutes, she told me they could handle at the register. I explained the clerk directed me to customer service. As she began yelling at the clerk from accross the store, I decided to keep the post Thanksgiving mojo and left the OJ at customer service. A nice lady checked out my buns (the sandwhich buns!). This store is terrible. read more

Place closes at 11pm according to Yelp and other online sources. I get to the store at 9:50pm to buy some groceries and the store is closed. I see an employee exit the store and ask what time they close and he said 10pm. I asked if I can pick up one or two things and he said they already closed out all the registers. Currently my favorite supermarket. Prices are more reasonable and wagons are in better condition than at some other food markets. I go to this store a lot and I have noticed that one of the cashiers is always filming himself, talking to his phone and often ranting/rambling while I just want to be helped with my items. This supermarket is good for convenience cause its blocks from my job and i can always come here on the way home or during lunch. DONT BUY THE SOUP FROM THE SOUP BAR!! got the broccoli cheddar today for lunch and threw it away after the third bite. it was good don't get me wrong however i bit into aluminum foil and got grossed out cause who knows what else was in it! not to mention dangerous! so upset and lesson learned i will not be getting lunch here again! I was there again last week and the cashier didn't even greet me, didn't ask for my card, and when I handed her the coupon she had an attitude. I'm really glad they renovated this Stop & Shop a couple of years ago, because back then it would have only rated one star. Since that time it's been made bigger, easier to navigate, and a lot...friendlier...in a New Jersey sort of way. I've noted more store brands, which is good, since the name grands are a bit pricey. However, it's not as bad as some other grocery stores in the area. Good deli, decent chip selection and an improved produce department make this a good quick stop on one's way home or on a weekend morning. Biggest complaint is the parking lot, which gets really really hazardous during the busy times. read more

This store is convenient but has become so dirty. Yesterday I went just after 4pm, prior to the big after work rush, and there was trash on the ground at the entry way, trash in almost all the shopping baskets, trash in the shopping carts and a pile of trash on the self serve cash register bench. How hard would it be for the guy bringing in carts to throw the trash away out of them (although who leaves their trash in their cart, rude!) The register scan glass is filthy as are the conveyor belts. Employees are nice usually but make no extra effort at anything. Poorly managed. read more

This store is neglected and it shows. Front end managers could'nt be less interested in being there. Deli is sooooo slow, and claim they can't cut the meats thin because their slicer blades are not sharpened. They were right, my cold cuts were uneven and too thick, I told them to keep them. The breakstone whipped butter costs 3.29 in Ridgewoood yet 2.29 in Paramus for the exact same product. ???? I have shopped consistently in the stop and shops located in bayonne and lyndhurst. This stop and shop is absolutely disgusting. The store is set up so inconveniently. Immediately when you walk in, it's a mess and you are hit with the most awful, sour, pugent smell. DIRTY mop? Cleaning the register with a dirty towel? The produce is not maintained, the unpackaged meat looks gross, the fish reeks in the back of the store, and their organic goods are never in stock. Given the upscale Ridgewood location, I'd expect the store to be maintained in a way where it would compete with Whole Foods. I've been spending the extra bucks at whole foods for the cleanliness and driving the few miles to the nearest shoprite in Rochelle park. IF you are planning on turning VEGAN take a walk through the back of stop and shop. You will vomit and never eat meat again! Repulsive. Good variety of food and products, frequent discounts/sales. I give a low rating because of their HORRIBLE use of technology. The self-check out system is a brilliant idea that consistently falls apart at the checkout lane. One picks up a wand at the front door, scans items as they are picked up, one puts them directly into the bag so that at the end, you flash the wand, swipe your card and go on one's way. Except most of the time the check-out staff has not been trained in how to use the self-check system, requiring a manager or "tech" person to come assist, sometimes requiring the whole order be rung out again. Also, the store does not prioritize this incredible time-saving system with its own dedicated lane. A major wasted opportunity. read more

The store is ok, but I found out today from the news paper, that was running a story on labor day, that this store only pays it's workers 8.25 an hour and many of it's workers are given less then 20 hours per week. For I want to feel good about were I shop and I want to know that the place that I'm spending money on does a good job of taking care of it's workers. The store is fine if you don't mind knowing that you are helping Stop and Shop to exploit already poor people for the benefit of our upper middle class way of life. read more
