Attention attention. Before anything else is mentioned, the Nutella pie is the dessert to get. Eat it no matter what. We've kept this place on our radar for a while and finally made a reservation. A few friends and I celebrated a birthday dinner here, and overall, we had a great experience! The tables are very close together, which makes the atmosphere quite intimate -- perfect for a cozy night out. We started our evening with the eggplant appetizer. We tried two of the specials: the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe, which was absolutely delicious, and the chicken saltimbocca, which was fantastic -- by far the best dish of the night. We also had the cacio e pepe pasta, which unfortunately missed the mark. It was extremely undercooked -- even hard to cut with a butter knife -- so that was a bit disappointing. That said, everything else was wonderful! The desserts were outstanding -- their tartufo is unique and not like others I've had, and the Nutella ricotta pie was my absolute favorite. Very rich, very sweet, and a generous portion. Despite the pasta hiccup, we really enjoyed our meal and would absolutely come back again! Pasta was fresh and al dente. The cacio e pepe was my favorite. Portions are just right. Very solid Italian for the area. It is BYOB which is nice for the wallet. The carbonara was made nicely and didn't feel too heavy like other places. I thought the red sauce pastas were a bit lacking in flavor. Amatriciana didn't have any spice. Pomodoro needed some salt. Romaine salad was small and had too many croutons. Eggplant was delicious. We went during the day so there wasn't much ambiance perse. It is run by a family, and they were attentive. We finally made it to this place. While roaming around in Ridgewood when I saw this restaurant, since then I have been excited to try food here. On weekends they do take reservations by phone but on weekdays it's on first come first serve basis. We were seated outside as we did a last minute reservation and it was perfect on a summer evening! To start with, they got some breads and olive oil for the table. We tried quite a different appetizer here - burrata and panzanella - this was breaded salad and it was quite fresh all by with amazing burrata! Upon our server's suggestion for vegetarian option, we ordered Trofie Pesto and Lasagna Cacio Pepe. The Trofie Pesto had a nice basil flavor, not overpowering. We eat less salt generally but felt this dish could use some more salt for all the flavors to enhance. Absolutely loved the Lasagna Cacio Pepe - nice twist to the OG Cacio Pepe in the form of lasagna. The end our dinner we ordered Tiramisu and OMG it was heavenly!!! It was just the perfect tiramisu. I liked the strong coffee flavor to it. It was topped with some dark chocolate which was perfect as well. I would definitely come back here just to have that tiramisu. At the end our server got butter cookies which was spectacular. I wish I could gorge on some more of those cookies. This restaurant makes its own pasta. The dishes we had were delicious, Polio in Salsa Peperoni and bechamel lasagna. We also had Burrata for an app. They serve foccaccia from Balthazar warmed up in oven with oil. The menu is small but varied. Their place settings and tablecloths are immaculate. Went to From Scratch for dinner. The staff were incredibly friendly throughout. Small things such as asking if we preferred seating closer to the AC system did not go unnoticed! Started off with complementary bread which was solid. I had the carbonara trufata, which was sooooo good. I am not a big fan of carbonara, but do love truffle, so I was curious to try this, and I am so happy I did. The combination of the pasta and guanciale is top tier. The taste of the carbonara is very subtle while the truffle was more prominent which was great for me. Hint of black pepper too was also noticed. My only slight complaint is this incredible pasta could have been even better if it came out steaming hot or just hot, rather than slightly warmer than room temperature. My son and his girlfriend told me about this restaurant in ridgewood, new jersey. They gave it great reviews and spoke highly about the fresh pasta. I wish I had the same experience they had. Unfortunately, the dishes I ate, the flavors were bland and underwhelming. I do appreciate the effort they gave.It was just not for me. The eggplantParmesan appetizer was not breaded as i was used too. It seemed slowly cooked and the texture was too soft for me I did have the octopus, but the flavor from the olives and capers were too overpowering. There was not one thing I did not like about this place. From the ambience, to how we were treated and greeted to the food and even the coffee. Hands down the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to that isn't in Italy. We've been to Italy a few times and always searching for an Italian restaurant that can sort of "top" Italy's cuisine and this one is the best. I am a big foodie person and can honestly say that I am very impressed. I had the trofie pesto and my husband had their famous lasagna bolognese. The lasagna was tasty, but could have used a lot more pepper, since that's in the name of the dish. Portion size was nice. The pesto pasta was good, although I thought it was both a little light on pesto flavor, and a tad bit too Al dente. This (Al dente) was something on which I was overruled. Delicious Italian food made, quite literally, "from scratch" (by an Italian couple that came from Italy maybe a decade ago). We started with a simple but very fresh and well-prepared salad, plus the eggplant parmigiana--different from the usual, subtle and soft, not fried to kingdom come. Then we both had excellent pastas--the cacio e pepe lasagna for my husband, the mushroom gnocchi for me--and finished with the scrumptious Nutella tart. No place in the US is as good as true Italian, until this place. This is authentically Italian in the best way. The food is all fresh, farm to table. The pasta was freshly made; the tiramisu was the best I've had outside of Italy, and better than many in Italy, which I've never said in the US anywhere. The staff was delightful and helpful. Its a very cozy and cute spot! Recommend having reservations as there are limited tables. The name speaks for itself in terms of authenticity of their Italian pasta dishes. Do note they indicate which dishes use pasta that are homemade so those would be made from scratch. For appetizer we ordered the foccacia di recco without the speck. This was a warm deliciousness with thin crispy bread with cheese topped with salad and balsamic. For entrees we ordered raviolacci ai funghi porcini e trafuco and fettuccine pomodoro e basilico. Both tasted fresh, yummy and authentic but we wished the fettuccine had little spice to it like an arribata. For dessert we had the claudie's must which was a ricotta nutella pie. We personally didn't love it but it has crunchy crust with nutella with some jam on side. Also, it is byob! They give you two butter biscuits at the end when your paying the bill. We had made a reservation (highly recommend) and they were holding our table. The menu is very small but everything on the menu is *chefs kiss.* We had started with the Tagliere Formaggi which was a cheese platter with Italian cheeses, fruit, and jams. Omg it was amazing! The combination of everything was great together. We also had the Panzanella with burrata. The burrata was so fresh. For an entree i had selected the lasagna cacio & pepe. Loved the creaminess of the cheese and the pasta tasted sooo fresh!! I had tasted my sister's entree which was the Carbonara rigatoni-- the carbonara sauce was so good and the guanciale ugh no words just delish!! We were so stuffed from dinner that we didn't get any dessert but they did give us some freshly baked heart shaped shortbread cookies. It was a nice way to end the meal. Cute little restaurant in Ridgewood. I had this on my list to try for awhile and so glad that I did. Went for lunch and the waitstaff was so personable. They don't have an extensive menu which I found to be great because each dish is done to perfection that you don't need to have a lot to choose from. I had the Liguire (pasta with pesto, potatoes, green beans) and my friend had the ravioli in walnut sauce. We both loved what we had and was so full that we couldn't order the dessert. At first all seems well and Restaurant is very small and has the local feel to it , no complaints with the ambiance. My first impression was good, they gave some warm bread to start that was really good and warm.. but that was the only good thing. 1) I got the meatballs as an appetizer, they were pretty small and had very little flavor. I was disappointed but stayed optimistic... will get back to this later. 2) We ordered two types of pastas and they were both chewy and very inconsistent, was disappointed in this greatly advertised home made pasta. Now what i noticed was, that the main chief was not cooking and had some other chiefs preparing the dishes... i noticed they were grabbing pre portioned tin foils and quickly "heating them up". I've been wanting to try out From Scratch for a very long time and was excited when I got a reservation at 8pm. We arrived on time and ordered all our food at once since we were hungry. We started off with the focaccia and for entrees each had a pasta: cacio e Pepe and carbona pasta. The food was extremely delicious, usually I have leftovers but we both cleaned our plates. The issue I had is the appetizer came at 8:30p and our entree came at 8:59p. They close at 9pm. Of course we are going to need time to eat our dinner. The owner here was SO RUDE because he wanted to go home, even though it wasn't our fault our meal came a whole hour after ordering. He kept telling the server to hand us our check / speed up the process, he sat at the empty table next to us, and was just trying to get us to hurry up and leave. It's one thing to have amazing food but to treat your guests rudely instead of kindly letting us know that we need to leave is a problem on poor management. This would have been a place I would have shared with my family and friends and even come back to, but there are other places with the same quality of food and kinder management that I will take my business to. read more

They don't allow you to get food how you like it - asked to thoroughly cook the pork cheek, cook the pasta one minute past el dente, asked for a different pasta when he said they couldn't cook it past al dente, they said no. No salt allowed at table, which isn't my preference on how to eat. And I eat my steak MR before you come for me ;) But the pasta was just ok, the sauce was decent, but I had to really chew my pasta which kind of ruined it while my pork cheek was very undercooked. (Think all white part of bacon slightly warmed) Service was ok - not good or bad, but food took a while and they said it's because there were tons of takeout orders. It's also BYOB like most restaurants in Ridgewood, so we brought our own bottle of wine. For starters, we ordered the Bresaola (absolutely delicious) and Apple Salad (surprisingly few apples). We really wanted to try the Melanzana Ripiena, but unfortunately it was sold out. For our entrees, all three of us decided to get the homemade pasta. I chose the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe, my mother got the Fusilloni Al Tonno, and my father got the Liguria. I recommend ordering the pasta as quickly as possible, because it takes a while to make (worth the wait though). All of the pasta was amazing and cooked perfectly al dente. Out of the three dishes, I liked the Cacio e Pepe the best - so rich! We couldn't skip dessert here (and you shouldn't either), so we ordered the Ricotta and Nutella Pie and Millefoglie to share. I was very excited to try them based on all the good reviews. Ordered lasagna, panzanella salad with burrata and tiramisu. Came to $59 and with uber eats delivery fees and tip- well over $70. I was shocked at the portion sizes - the lasagna was small and they didn't include any side bread or side salad like other Italian restaurants do, and no utensils were included even though I requested them. The panzanella salad was meh, and the bread pieces in the salad were soggier than they should have been. The tiramisu was good. Everything is way too expensive for what they give.
