The space is warm, beautifully done with a combination of greenery, that reclaimed wood post and beam architecture, and clean lines. There's not a lot of Hindu influence here - their music selections are mostly ambient, modern relaxation or upbeat tracks that don't compete with instruction. Don't get confused -- enter through the Main St. door, as if you were going to the bank, but keep going into the building, and up the first half flight of stairs, you're there! This is a wonderful business in Medford, I want to help hang permanent decal signs on the windows, as it's really hard to know that studio is even there. BAD business, and a waste of your time…read more I went there with the intention of using a benefit that comes with my Blue Cross health insurance, and they wouldn't even let me get started "until I filled out a profile online". So I went home and filled out their profile, and tried to use my insurance card, and it didn't work. I went through 5 emails and multiple phone calls with them before they told me that they couldn't get it to work. I would have given up earlier, but they are just so close to my house. The exact same insurance card worked at the other small yoga studio in Medford (that has ALL 5 star reviews) and a studio in Assembly Square, so this is just a bad business.

If it weren't for the traffic coming off Lake Street to get over to this part of Arlington, I'd definitely be a regular. First things first, no typical yoga studio stink that hits you in the face as soon as you walk in. I don't know if they crank the windows open all the time or if the hard wood floors are a boon but great job on the ventilation. I have a pretty sensitive nose, with overly strong perfume/cologne/BO really getting to me, and Lotus stands out as one of the few yoga studios I've visited where the smell was not an issue at all. I took an evening slow flow class with a focus on the hips and pelvis, which was perfect for my tight hamstrings. Lots of props available. If you get a spot in the back of the room, though, it's tricky to see the instructor demo-ing near the front, so I relied a lot on what my neighbors were doing. I had a lot of pain and inflexibility, so I knew yoga might be of benefit. But, as a guy who's not known for graceful moves, I took pause. When we arrived at Dani's private studio, what impressed me the most was how much attention she took to our "practice." She judges no one; it's all about embracing where you are at. At first, I couldn't call it that, but after weeks and eventually months, I became confident, stronger, and much more flexible. While Dani caters to all levels, her studio is really a fantastic place to grow in your Vinyasa practice. It may not be for everyone (there's just not enough space!) but she offers really great instruction at a value that really makes yoga accessible to nearly everyone. She keeps her overhead low and passes that onto you! Dani is also a competitive runner, and has given me much wisdom over the years as I aspire to run better. While I relocated to Colorado some time ago, I always try to stop by for a class when I'm travelling to Boston for work. It's usually the best hour of my day!

It is a powerful community space to Be In Union with yourself & others in the community who we share more in common with than we realize. I always just "did yoga". Believe me - an experience is about every touch point of your visit - even the sanitizing! My first instructor, Anahi, was great and the class was both challenging and zen - which is my favorite yoga combo. All of the instructors are so helpful and always make sure that I feel comfortable with every exercise. If I feel like a workout is too much, they always provide a modified version for me that works the same muscle group, but isn't too hard on my back. I have also really appreciated how accommodating Kourtney has been- from anything to having to cancel/swap a class last minute to pausing my membership for a month. Everyone clearly cares deeply about the member experience and there is a true community feel to the gym.
