I was cleaning out an old suitcase and came across a business card from a trip to London a few years ago. This is my best friends favorite coffee shop, and when I visited him, he insisted we stop here. When I found the business card, it made me so happy, as I think so warmly of this lovely spot. We stopped in for a drink several times during my trip in London. The user uploaded photos here just do not do it justice. When I think of the quintessential London coffee shop, they always come to mind. I love the clean lines, modern vibes and sweeping natural daylight that floods inside. If I remember correctly, when I visited, they even have outdoor seating. I'm a tea drinker, but my best friend ordered the espresso, his usual, as I enjoyed a tea and a croissant. We sat here several days in a row and just read the paper. I recall friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I hope we make it back here again some day! read more

This is a really cool and chic Barista coffee house in central London, really near UCL and Euston station. The coffee here is high quality, good tasting and strong that would please any coffee veteran, but probably would not appeal to those who prefer large Starbucks style coffees. However, for a short quality brew or a strong Espresso, Store Street is great. Also, they do matcha tea and matcha lattes as well as a variety of desserts and some light lunch options. The atmosphere is pretty chill, a tad hippy with many students on Macbooks. Grey interior, small enough inside but still a decent number of seats. There is a loyalty card and prices are average. The downside is that it gets crowded during university times, and WiFi is via BT where you either need to be a BT customer to use free or pay. The cafe didn't seem to have their own free wifi though. read more

A quaint cafe near my old uni UCL that makes me wonder why didn't we have such nice cafes near school back then! It's quite crowded during rush hours but if you get a seat, it's a lovely cafe to sit down and read under the natural daylight. For my visit today, I ordered a Cappuccino £2.80 and Matcha White Chocolate Cookie £2.40. This little white-washed espresso house is a welcome addition to the Bloomsbury area, previously bereft of a properly good local coffee shop. I stopped in for a piccolo. Greeted politely though not enthusiastically, I took a seat to wait for my coffee. A barista delivered it to me. I sat next to some books on a shelf, 4 of which were The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (kind of weird). Took a poetry volume off and leafed through it while I enjoyed my competently prepared coffee beverage. But it didn't blow me away. And, ultimately, neither did Store Street Espresso. I'm very fond of Store Street Espresso. It's a combination of great coffee, delicious sandwiches, wi-fi, the skylight which is so effective when there's sun out, and, my favourite part, the bookshelf which means that I can just chill out and grab a book when I've forgotten to bring one out with me. Yes, I'm way too used to having something to occupy me, if I'm not able to sit down and just chill without anything to do, but that's beside the point. I've been asked what the 'chemistry lab' photo I uploaded means. Well, not so long ago, when it was sweltering hot, Store Street had some cold brew coffee, which I think is coffee brewed with iced water, and not the usual boiling hot water you get. In fact, it was so hot that day that the shop bought out all of the ice from surrounding supermarkets. read more

Visited twice here now mainly to study and then meet up with friends for study sessions later. Filter coffee was very good but a bit small so recommend going for the big one. It's small but I was able to score a nice booth after waiting awhile and noise level is not too bad. Cons are the wireless is horrendous and eventually my study group had to leave and go to uni as we couldn't work there. Also no outlets so I don't recommend for a long stay if you plan to work but for just a normal coffee break its very cute and cosy. read more

Store Street Espresso is one of many good cafes in this neighborhood. It may not be top of my list but as it has a nice layout and design, plenty of seating, free wifi (although there is a sign that there is no wifi between 11-16, was however on and working fine past two times i was there during that time) and good coffee so it is a definite option for a good cup of coffee. They mainly use Square Mile Coffee which is normally a good sign of quality. The place does have a hipster vibe but it does not really bother me as long as the coffee is good and the service is fast and friendly and Store Street ticks those boxes. I have had very good hand brewed coffees here and the flat white has been good as well. They also serve some basic cafe food. The main drawbacks is that the place has been freezing cold when I have been here during winter time. It is however otherwise a good place for coffee. read more

Stopped here with my momma for a quick coffee break. She asked me where the best coffee was in London and I immediately thought of Store Street. I'm still in love with their craft, the space, and the location of the cafe. We managed to find a seat inside and had a lovely time relaxing with our drinks. This time I tried something new, their matcha latte with a matcha cookie. WOW do I wish I had known about this last year. Impeccable technique both in elevating the matcha flavour and the milk was frothed perfectly. I'm very picky with this as I find some places don't do the flavour justice but this is not one of them. The matcha cookie was good too, although very dense in the centre and more crumbly than anticipated. But together they were a perfect pairing. Matcha overload! I recommended this coffee shop before and I will do so again. They simply amazing and not to be missed! read more

I was here for an "After Hours" pop-up desserts visit and had an excellent time. The place is lit well. Dim, but just enough brightness for excellent contrast instagram photos :) The desserts themselves were sublime. Small, but constructed with strange and wonderful ingredients you don't come across everyday. Honeycomb, chocolate ganache espresso, freeze dried rhubarb, blackberry parfait. Amazing. The staff were friendly and despite needing a special reservation, the place wasn't empty the whole night. The coffee here (unsure of whether from pop-up or venue itself) is excellent. The only downside of the visit is that now I wish every coffee in the world included a giant lump of chocolate Ganache and Almond Biscotti :) read more

Every day I wish I worked closer to a good coffee shop like Store Street Espresso. Then again, it's probably better for my wallet that I don't since I'd definitely be popping by every day for some variety of espresso. We wanted to try this place so much that we ventured out on a freezing, wet, winter's day. I'm not sure whether it's quieter on the weekends or whether the rain just kept everyone else snug inside their homes/blankets, but it wasn't too crowded when we wandered in on a late Saturday afternoon. I imagine that during peak coffee hour, fewer seats would be available, so it worked out quite well for us. My flat white was incredibly smooth with a soft kick of espresso. I've had my fair share of coffee in London and this coffee was easily among the top five I've tasted. The carrot cake we ordered was also a tasty little treat and had a generous portion of walnuts that worked really well with the cake. I'd really love to come back to repeat the experience. From what I've heard from friends, it seems like the coffee here is consistently good, so there's probably nothing to worry about! read more

I used to frequent this place like it was going to close. It was a great place to for good coffee and goat cheese sammies. Not to far from campus, it was great place to duck in and drink some coffee until it was respectable enough an hour to go over to the pub across the street. And with all the rain we had in London that year, you would find me many times at the corner table hunched over a table with a flat white from my favourite Australian. Sadly, they got so popular it was hard to find a spot just on a whim after a while. Sadly for me, not for the guys that is. I went to this spot in hopes to grab a bite of lunch and get a bit of studying done. The place was packed so I had to sit at the communal table by the window and it was way too low to do any work comfortably. (+) Free WIFI. Pastrami sandwich to die for. Huge window for maximal brightness. Panini maker. (-) Very small food selection. Slow WIFI. Crowded. Uncomfortable. Although the sandwich was extremely delicious and flavorful, I would not say that this place is anything special. After a year+ of eyeing Store Street Espresso with jealousy and sadness on my way to the Senate House Library, I finally treated myself to a beverage and a snack here. Though I will never have to return to said library ever again (can I get a 'WOOOO!'?), I will go out of my way to come back to Store Street Espresso! The shop itself is uber chic, with an outside area that's usually packed with super cool-looking people smoking a cigarette and drinking their lattes from dainty glass tumblers. When inside, you're greeted by a gorgeous looking display case of freshly prepared sandwiches, quiches, and pastries, and a clean space with lots of seating. With Bon Iver playing softly on the stereo overhead (followed by a rather enthusiastic, slightly stranger Mexican folk music situation afterward...), I was ready to caffeinate and get some serious work done. I ordered an iced flat white and a slice of avocado toast (as I said, I'm treating myself today). While it was a pretty penny, coming to about £7 for the two items, you're really paying for the quality here. The iced flat white (btw, side note -- more London coffee shops need to jump on this 'iced' drink bandwagon) was smooth, rich, and balanced. Not bitter in the slightest! And since you can't really go wrong with any variation of the sourdough toast and avocado combo, my snack went down a treat, as well. What really separates Store Street Espresso from its (*cough* East London) competitors is the friendliness of the (Hipster! There are nice hipsters!) staff. They're helpful, patient, and really welcoming. They say hello when you get in, and goodbye when you leave. (While I guess this isn't really that big of a deal, and really quite normal by general standards of social interaction, I've been conditioned by the aloof baristas of Old Street).They also don't try and take away your drink the second you've finished it, or glare at you angrily when you've been sitting there for a few hours on your laptop. Quality stuff! This place is great. Tip 1: Card charges under £4 get a £0.10 fee tacked onto them Tip 2: Wifi is normally free and unlimited (none of that by-the-hour nonsense), but is switched off between 12-3 during the lunch rush. It cannot be denied, one has to shell out for good coffee in London but at least it exists... HERE amongst other places. From the street this coffeehouse looks like a design store with it's contemporary and minimalist furniture and general fashionable clientele present in the window seating. Nice range of pastries, cakes and snacks, though also; not-so-cheap. I must praise the teas as well at the coffee which come thoughtfully served in individual filters, which begins to explain their (also) high price. read more

Prices reasonable - a long black is £2 which is admittedly a little more than you'd pay in Starbucks or Costa, but it's more than a little bit better! read more

Good coffee and it isn't in east London? Whenever I need a place to meet someone for a coffee near the BL, Senate House, Warburg, UCL... well, Bloomsbury in general, this is my go-to spot. Well located between Warren Street, Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road, and Russell Square, it is a small cafe with friendly staff, cozy/minimalist decor, and really good coffee. Plus, they don't mind if you linger/study, they have free wifi, and they are definitely not Starbucks. If you are picky about coffee and want a centrally located, down to earth yet upscale cafe: this is your spot. I think my latte cost £2, which is on par with most places of this type in London. read more

Really nice space they've got going on here - I have to say that as much as I like places like Monmouth and Foxcroft & Ginger, I find them to be a little on the cosy [/estateagentspeak] side. SSE is far more roomy in that regard which is nice, especially if you're going to be living there. As for the coffee, well, it's a bit on the pricey side - definitely one for those who drink coffee out of pleasure rather than out of necessity. I didn't catch the prices for the espresso-based drinks, but the aeropress brews are £3 and V60 drip coffees are £4. I went for the aeropress and, well, it really didn't disappoint - very smooth, light on the acidity and finishing with a distinct chocolatey-ness. Yums. My coffeemate (not that coffee mate) was impressed with their caffe latte too. Buono. Although it's a bit out of my way, I will definitely be dropping in again in the future if I need to do a couple of hours of reading, especially as it's much less manic than, say, Monmouth. Pricey, yes, but definitely one of the top brews in town. read more

Oh, Store Street - you fancy, hunh? I used to hustle down this street en route to the Library - it was used as a way to get from A to B, not as a destination itself. Now, though? Charming like whoa. And Store St. Espresso is partially to credit for this nice strip tucked away just off Tottenham Crt. Road. Here's what I love about Store Street Espresso: the space. It's so bright, thanks to a skylight. It actually reminds me a lot of the Scandinavian coffee spots I hung out in this past summer: bright, white, natural elements, attractive attentive barristas, nice font (fully recognize this last point might not seal the deal for many). Long wooden tables for working. Beautiful little details, like cards for sale by local artists (3 for 5, I think). Want some toast? Oh, hey, there are more than your standard options for toppings like Marmite and several jars of PB. Coffee is from Square Mile. And remember to get your card stamped - loyalty perks, gang! [tentatively stated bonus point: I think there might even be student discounts? But don't quote me on this]. Otherwise, though, I'll say that I'm willing to pay a premium for good coffee, but these are micro-teeny flat whites for the price. Yelp note: depending on time of day/week it can feel pretty Uni student-dominated due to its proximity to UCL/SOAS/etc. Which is no problem, really, other than making me _feel old_. read more

Ah Store Street, you kill me sometimes. I love you, but I don't enjoy loving you. This is a review for coffee lovers, so if you are a general coffee fan, add on a star to the review. + The coffee: they vary the filter and the V60 (or Aeropress, more later) beans regularly (currently using 'Drop' coffee beans, an amazing Swedish roasters), whereas they stock and use Square Mile or Alchemy as their day-to-day beans for espresso/latte/etc. In that, they have good selections, and there is always something new to try, and generally the coffee is great. But frankly, I'm not all that blown away*. I can't lie and say it isn't probably the best in the TCR/Bloomsbury area, but Tapped isn't far behind and its a nicer store. - But Store Street, for all its good coffee (£2-4) and its variety of in-stock beans (£10+), its to-buy Aeropresses (£25) and grinders (£30); is just overpriced. It shouldn't cost £4 for a V60. £3 or £3.50 maybe. I'm sure arguments can be made for it, but no. And this goes double for their current replacement for the V60 menu option, the Aeropress, as they are practicing for the Aeropress Barista Championships. I'm an Aeropress user for over 2 years- I'm not a Championship winner, but I know my Aeropress isn't worth £4 a cup. Its never cost me £4 a cup anywhere else in the world. Sure, it might be the quality of bean they are using, but the beans regularly change but the price doesn't. Also, not sure why I'm paying premium for practicing entrants... - The latte art isn't up to scratch anymore, and maybe its due to staff turnover and being moved to Tavistock Place, but it seems half-arsed. - The wifi is disasterous. Really not a place to met a work/business colleague to do some work. Other rewiews will back this up. Maybe this seems overly harsh, I hear you, I'm saying this as a regular customer (mans got a loyalty card innit). But you set yourself up as a premium coffee store, and its only fair to judge against the rest of the premium stores in London. + On the plus, they do decent cold brew and iced coffees in the summer-time! Much better than the Starbucks muck. + The physical store: good seating among, quite comfortable, and has a nice long outside bench for good weather. Its always busy though, until about 3.30pm in the afternoon. The food: I have to say I have't tried it. Again, maybe its the price tag, but I've not heard anyone who has eaten from there (with me) rave about it. Could be great; perhaps it needs to source some fresh pastries from a nearby bakery or something. + The verdict: Look its the best in the surrounding UCL/Bloomsbury area, and for the sake of a few extra pence you'll get better coffee than the Costa/Starbucks muck. That said, as a coffee addict you're possibly only going to see this as a decent but not mindblowing premium coffee store, and you wonder if the price really is worth it. Highly unlikely you'll buy any of the beans, considering the better deals in London and even online from the same suppliers. Tough one! * I warred over giving this 4 stars for the simple reason that the Aeropress they are currently doing did blow me away, but its down to the bean they are using. If they did the option regularly (which actually gives a bigger portion too) and the Aeropress was consistently that good, its a 4 star review. read more

Also, they have muesli just it's not listed anywhere that I could see. As if someone couldn't really be bothered to do anything inventive or interesting with the spot. I popped in here for a coffee after visiting the flower shop down the road. It looks a bit minimalist with a few cakes and slices on display, art gallery style. But what you really come here for is the coffee. I asked for my default choice: a flat white. The quality of the London flat white varies wherever you go, so ordering one can indicate how good the cafe may be. After a short wait, I was handed my flat white in a cup without a lid. But this is a good move for me as I'm now free to add sugar without the risk of spilling precious coffee whilst removing the lid. As it happened, I didn't need the lid anyway. I sipped the coffee while walking towards Holborn to catch the tube. The drink was well crafted. It had enjoyable flavours and it gave me the wake-up nudge I was looking for. Hmm, I haven't reviewed this place despite having gone there twice last week. It's very similar to most of the of the other fancy coffee places cropping up everywhere, right down to the obligatory fixie bicycle chained up outside, but it has a bit more space than most of the others. I'd give it 5 stars but I don't think they've made the best use of the available space and there's a weird problem with the roof where condensation builds up and then starts dripping on you from above. read more

I had very high expectations of this place, after reading Londonist's review. This is a nice little unassuming cafe which is slightly hidden away, but having said that, it still managed to be rather busy when I went there! The staff were speedy and efficient, but still managed to appear laidback. Very impressive. Despite the fact that it was busy, I found a seat no problem - it's the kind of place where it wouldn't be strange to ask to sit on someone else's table if they were alone. It's very minimalistic in decor, and the better for it. The Flat White I had was absolutely lovely, with very caramel-like tones to it, and I think cheaper than all of The Big Coffee Chains. The staff were very much on top of cleaning the tables when I was in there, but didn't at all make me feel rushed. All in all it's a brilliant little place - go! read more
