Food is immaculate, I particularly love the shredded pork sandwich. The service is amicable and I love the overall atmosphere and vibe.

We've driven by this place numerous times and decided on a whim to give it a try. Right out of the gate, the word "barbecue" is in their name yet there wasn't so much as a hint of wood smoke in the air outside nor the building. Counter order service with an eye level chalkboard menu was nice. The decor is a little kitshy and in terms of cleanliness, I've been in worse interstate restaurants. I opted for the fried chicken with cabbage and tater salad. The young guy that took the order was clean cut, well mannered and polite. We were given a number and seated ourselves at a window seat. On each of the tables were a bottle of Texas Pete, napkins, an unknown BBQ sauce that tasted like Sweet Baby Rays and a pepper shaker. No salt. The window and windowsills had plenty of evidence hygienic practices weren't their strong suit: Remnants of what appeared to be days-old hush puppies, pulled pork and perhaps green beans (?) were visible along the window sills and the bench seats were long past their prime which made the mere time someone had invested into the wall decor and cosmetics perplexing. It was very brief observation our food appeared via a very friendly young lady. ...In styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Mildly reassuring the same people responsible for the dining room's cleanliness weren't also responsible for washing actual dishes and silverware. Being a Southerner, I could see the cabbage had not been seasoned with anything - Not so much a speckle of pepper nor an onion sliver. Forget a hint of fat back, hog jawl, or even a bacon grease sheen - So I asked for vinegar. Our server gave the option of regular vinegar or pepper vinegar, I chose the pepper and she returned with such rapidly. White vinegar with a pinch of red pepper flakes in a pre-portioned plastic container. Consequently, I will say the cabbage was very much so plain boiled cabbage and let me know this place isn't doing anything with whole hogs. Next up, the tater salad. It was more so tater bits, not actual cubes of boiled taters - with sugar(?), some scant flakes - Yes, flakes! - of red onion, a whisper of an egg yolk and definitely not Duke's or Blue Plate Mayo. No celery, no pickles, no identifiable parts it was just cold mashed potatoes covered in a runny egg/maybe knock off Miracle Whip and cheap mayo blend and takes the award for being the absolute worst "potato salad" I have ever eaten. Noticing all the nods to Christ and Jesus being Lord and Savior all I could think was, "Amen. I hope this doesn't make me sick." The fried chicken? Straight outta a US Foods or Sysco wholesaler. Really strange considering it's an unobstructed easy WALK to the adjacent Food Lion where someone could buy lard, chicken, flour and seasonings to do up some yard bird. It was clearly nothing battered there in house and the nail in the coffin was those hush puppies. Those tasted like a Temu version of hush puppies someone would fry up after frying fish with an odd mix of House of Autry breading with sugar added. The service was great. And a lot of effort was placed into the walls. The food was unfit for a nursing home picnic and in preparing for the rapture Stormin Norman's would not be a place I'd recommend for a potential Last Supper. May Jesus take your wheel to a different restaurant. read more

Traveling back to VA from our home in Fl we drive 95 often. We love to hit different spots each time. Today was Stormin' Norman's BBQ and we were not disappointed. Every single teen in the restaurant was polite and appeared to like their job. I truly felt the love these kids have for life and was more than happy to give my money for great food in a wonderful atmosphere. The chicken was delicious. It's definitely home cooked and gives that feeling. I could tell that their loss in February of what I can only imagine was like a grandma to them was still present in the book inside the entrance. Food: bad- meat smelled like sulfur (we had ribs and the shredded pork- i couldn't eat much of either because the smell), beans had no seasoning. Do they put extra sugar and pickles in potato salad? They have flies throughout a closed restaurant (that is an indication of a dirty establishment). Floors so sticky you attach to them as you walk through the entrance. Just skip it. read more

Excellent BBQ. The pork spareribs I ordered were incredibly tender in their sauce. They were tasty and would give them 5 stars. I asked for a side of sweet & spicy bbq sauce. I was given a vinegar based sauce with a thin consistency, a bit of heat and not sweet. No honey based bbq sauces are on offer. Just a few bbq sauce choices. I also ordered a side of Brunswick Stew that contained either pork or chicken or both. It was 5 star. I didn't care for banana pudding dessert. Come check them out. Establishment has a "southern country feel". I ordered carryout but place was packed for dinner on a Friday night and it was very noisy. Not an empty seat in the house. Went in for lunch today. There's no indoor seating because of the pandemic, but there is tables in front that are outside, but covered by a roof. The gentleman taking our order was super friendly. We ordered two fried chicken breasts, mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as coleslaw. The fried chicken was delicious, nice and crispy and excellent salty flavor. However, the chicken inside was not hot. The coleslaw was good and sweet, but tasted like it was from a store-bought factory made type. The mashed potatoes were okay, made from a powder mix. The only good thing i can say about this place is the price is low, oh and the sweet tea tastes like tea. Other then that I'm trying really hard to think if I've eaten at a bbq place worse than this one, and i try barbecue all over the country. Collard greens and yams were bland, pulled pork had no taste and was slimy, and everything was cold. My stomach turned when i ate this food and I regretted not stopping at the taco bell i seen, and thats saying something because taco bell is horrible. KEEP DRIVING! I saw this from the highway and figured I could grab some bbq instead of fast food, on my way back North. I got the chicken and rib combo with cabbage and cole slaw. I was surprised to find the chicken was fried. I'm guessing I missed that on the sign. Once I got over it I jumped right into the chicken. Although the chicken looked like it had been sitting for a while, it had a very good taste. The chicken was clean, crunchy and delicious! As for the ribs, they tasted like they were made in the oven like Country ribs. They came sauced down in a pretty lite colored bbq sauce. If there was any "smoke" it was probably in the bbq sauce, certainly not the ribs. No need to talk about the sides!!! Great location, right off the highwau! Staff was phenomenal! Very polite, accommodating, patriotic, even offered to give us samples since it was our first time there. Some reviews were put off by the cafeteria style setup, but don't let that dissuade you from eating here! Everything we had was pretty damn good and there were a lotttt of options. We both ate for under $20, my fiance got the two meat platter and also added banana pudding (which he gives 5 stars across the board and won't stop raving about.) I had the pulled pork platter. Meat was very moist and flavorful. Loved their house BBQ sauce! I also had mash potatoes and gravy, which were excellent, and green beans. Hush puppies were probably some of the best I've ever had. I did manage to sneak a bite of the banana pudding before it was devoured, which was also tasty! The Nilla wafers were still crunchy, which apparently is a good sign! April 2019 review (been sitting in draft forever) The name definitely caught our attention. At first we thought there was some connection with Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, but it was really the owner's nickname. Nice little family owned business. We ordered our food, and it took a looooong time before it was ready, but maybe it was because we were a party of 9. Considering it's a small owned business we were expecting maybe a little more of that famous southern hospitality, but didn't really see it. Regarding the food, the hush puppies were great. Cole slaw was okay, but minced a little too small for my taste. Not bad, just different I guess. Crinkle cut fries were okay too. Overall not too bad. I really wanted to like it but my serving was over half gristle , bones and fat chunks. The little bit of meat was dry and very little sauce to help it. The staff appeared to simply not want to be there as most were teenagers. The fries that came with it were very bad. They were old and again, looked like they were under a heat lamp for way too long. Wife's order she had to throw away after two bites. The cole slaw, however tasted very unique to all other types I had and I liked it. Wife did not. I can only assume that as a guest , you'll want to get their early as they open perhaps to get freshly made ribs? Not sure but I can say it's been awhile since I've had food this bad to which most ended up in the garbage can. The bitter taste in my mouth from knowing I handed over almost $40 bucks for this didn't help the taste of the ordeal either. I live right down the road and was hoping for a really good spot to eat at on occasion and was impressed at just how many great reviews this place has. Did a road trip to Fayetteville on the way back we stop at this restaurant. Well service was great and quick. The bbq chicken was alright. The bbq ribs were parboiled and covered in bbq sauce they were awful the collard greens were bland, no seasoning just downright yuck . A disgrace to all southern cooking. The potato salad has sweet, someone must have thought that you had sugar to it not a good look . The only thing I liked was the rutabagas they were decent. Again no seasoning. I had dinner here on a Friday night in late January 2020. It was very good. I was driving south on I-95 and I got hungry for dinner. I used Google Maps to find this place near the interstate. It appears to be a chain. The exterior looks quirky and fun. Inside, the place was pretty much filled with people who appeared to be local residents enjoying a favorite local eatery. I got good vibes right away. This BBQ restaurant serves food like it is done in a fast-food restaurant, so this place is certainly not fancy, and there are no waiters or waitresses. My dinner was ready to pick up in about 5 minutes after ordering. I got fried flounder, mashed w gravy, and green beans. It was very good! Tasty food and no complaints. If you ever go to the State Fair and come across a vendor strongly advertising BBQ and southern delicacy then this would be their restaurant with the same disappointment. The restaurant style is cafeteria and that should have alerted me to stay away however I gave this place the benefit of the doubt. This place serves most of what North Carolina is known for but in a cheap way. Nothing really looks or taste like it's from scratch. BBQ pork sandwich lacked smoke, Brunswick stew tasted like canned vegetable soup, and potato salad reminded me of the one I get at Sams club. The people are friendly but it doesn't help to overlook the food and the bad decor. This would not be the place to get your BBQ fix unless your standards are really low. read more
