And honestly, even if you like none of those things you should check this hostel out because it is affordable and extremely pleasant as a place to lay your head when you're exploring the White Mountains National Forest. That said, Rumney is the spot for outdoor rock climbing and Dave, Liam, Allison and the rest of the staff at Barn Door live the life. They have tons of info from the extensive library and maps, to rental gear and tips for good places in the area. As far as lodging, there's outdoor camping with a solar electricity charge port and water refill station, as well as an outdoor shower. You can take a bed or private room with up to 4 beds in the hostel itself. Or, do the bus! The bus is basically car camping with a massive upgrade. From the parking area you follow a winding path up to the clearing with an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, picnic table, compost toilet, and, voila, a bus with 2 cozy beds, an upper deck, a sink with potable water, and a stove to keep you warm. There was also a coffee pot and lovely local coffee in locally made mugs. The bus has plenty of ventilation but also closes up tight so we never felt too hot or cold. There was plenty of room for all our stuff and we slept very well on the beds. The upper level bed had pillows, sheets and a duvet. Lower level was a bed created from two bus benches and we probably would have been able to make up a bed but just used sleeping bags. You access the upper level via ladder and unless you're tall and limber, it's a bit athletic going up and down. But it's sure as hell really fun! In the evening, there are lights along the path to the bus and it is honestly just magical walking through the woods and over the bridge. We loved our stay and look forward to returning. The staff were so nice and we loved chatting with them and hanging out with their friendly pets. The inside of the hostel was immaculate, including the bright, clean, well ventilated showers and toilets. Thank you for a great climbing vacation!

OFFSEASON FALL OCT. 4th - 6th site 210 Well let's start off…read morewith turning onto Bachelder rd. Kind of exciting driving up and seeing a couple old campers set up like it was part of a theme park. Getting toward the office the road splits into a nice paved 3 lane rd. Excellent if there a few people checking in. The office is well presented, and an arcade next to it is a pristine 200 yr old barn. The roads were well maintained as it turned to dirt and gravel. No rain made potholes a very nice drive. The sites as we drove by were awesome. This place has great large deep private sites, angled very well for easy docking. The site we had 210 was a damn good site. Not far walking distance from office pool and other amenities. Trees were nice and solid and it was large enough for us to do extra. The fire pits were awesome, all large stones with others built up.. excellent on that one moosehillock. Everyone walking by had great attitudes, excellent vibes. Well except that one dude looked at me walking by jealous of my blackstone. Cons to get through quick cause we didn't have much. At $12 a bundle for wood, little steep usually paying $4-6 at other campgrounds. BUT!!!!! you can bring your NH born wood from wherever so that's a plus. No cell service but wifi if you are down around the office. By the way I met a camp worker David who was very professional and helped with every question and matter we had. 100 acres, over 500 sites to stay at rv cabins tents. This is a great place. We plan to go back next summer in season to check out the pool and other accommodations. Recommended for now. Update next season.

Only real complaint is if you're bringing kids, they don't have much in the way of activities during the evenings. They do the movie night in the pool once per week, but that's it. My kids said they much preferred Jellystone because they have different activities every night. If you're going with the intention to go do things offsite each day, I'd say this place is perfect. If you are planning to stay on site for your whole trip, I think there are better options. We also had a fox hanging out on our campsite for basically the whole week, but I'm not complaining, he didn't bother us at all.

Wow! Attended a wedding at Rustic Gatherings Lodge planned by my family living in southeaster…read moreMassachusetts, and almost all 100 guests came from that area and Rhode Island and Connecticut! 17 members of wedding party and closest family and friends lodged there two nights before the wedding, and all arriving guests as well on the wedding day were taken by private deluxe golf-cart down a slight hill to the wedding venue set-up on the side of the gorgeous Baker River. A heavenly sight, enhanced by hundreds of white lights along the path down the hill, on the perimeter of the huge banquet tent, and lighted torches along the river side. Enjoyed a spectacular Farm-to-table buffet. Bottom line: everyone attending expressed the view that this was the most elegant, beautiful wedding they ever attended!

The grassy site we had was a nice corner site, lined by trees, and close to the refreshing river with an awesome sandy bank. Bathrooms were rustic, but clean. Hot (free) showers. The office is not open at Baker River - you have to go to Riverbrook to use other amenities like the pool, game room, etc. But we were fine with that. The personable manager (and her adorable Great Danes!) is easily contacted by phone if you have any questions or concerns. One of the best parts was walking to Riverbrook with our tubes (about a 20 minute walk) putting them in the river, and floating back to Baker River. We could have done that all day! We are going back next month! Highly recommend if you like things a little quieter.

The amenities are so thoughtful: every floor has its own refrigerator filled with bottles of water, a freezer with bags of ice, and a cupboard full of extra glasses and mugs. Wow! The room itself has a Nespresso machine, robes and slippers, pump soap even for the sink (no mini bar soaps, yay!), and the ability to stream from your apps. The best part about checking out is that our car was waiting for us at the front of the hotel. How thoughtful! No waiting!

Beware of false "valet" parking charge at $35/day. I did not have a car. Thankfully, my bank…read moreresolved the issue, and the false charge was reimbursed. The hotel also finally sent me a folio which the employees I spoke to previously had refused to send, and I saw that I had been charged $35/day for "valet" parking. Summary below. ---------------- Stayed there in early May 2026 for work, and this hotel added a false $70 charge as "parking" fee, even though I didn't have a car (traveled to Dartmouth by bus) and had never used the parking service. They also refused to send me a receipt for that amount. The first time I called to inquire about the charge, the person who answered the call told me it was a deposit-like charge for incidentals which would be reversed. A few days later, I saw that I had been fully charged $70. It was only after I sent in a written inquiry that someone called back to say that it was for "parking". This is when I asked my bank to intervene. The bank solved the issue in a day (whereas I had been trying on my own for a week). Lesson learned: if you can't solve it immediately, ask your bank for help. Their website says, "We offer valet service with on-site, heated, and secure parking for $35/day." They surely must have known that I hadn't used the service. This charge could easily have been missed. Please be careful. There are other reviewers of the hotel on other platforms who also cited false charges, so it seems that mine was not an isolated issue. Big ups to Chase for quickly acting and disputing the charges. My bus tickets to Dartmouth were very helpful, a reminder that it's important to keep all documents. Editing June 2026: I just learned upon talking to the institution which paid for my hotel stay that Six South St Hotel attempted to charge their card $70 (as well as my personal card). I don't know the exact timeline, so cannot say if this was simultaneous, but we both agreed that we will try to avoid this hotel in the future. Both cards have now been correctly credited back, but only after I asked my bank to intervene. Again, there are similar reviews on other platforms, including one review which also noted that they could not receive a folio (which was my case as well). Please beware.

I booked this stay through CapitolOne Travel and was initially anxious as the website doesn't have…read moremuch information and I don't receive any instructions before arrival. When you arrive, there is a board on the left side of the house that has the required information for contactless check-in information which was uncomplicated. Our room - the gala - had a much bigger bed than expected which was awesome as well as a spa tub, and gas fireplace. About $550 for two night stay which is very competitive for the area. Within walking distance to many attractions and shopping. Clean and the communal areas were very cute and matched online pictures exactly. My only qualm is that this is a very old house and you can hear EVERYTHING from the other rooms which was very unpleasant especially if you are in a downstairs room. Floors creaking, beds squeaking, music, conversations, etc. I would recommend bringing headphones and not coming here with children unless you can rent all the rooms for your group or you might have some explaining to do in regards to the sounds coming from other rooms... This is my first BnB experience so maybe this is the norm but I was not prepared for it. As far as I can tell there aren't any enforced quiet hours here. Shampoo/conditioner provided - no body soap. Hairdryer, iron, and hangers available in room. Extra blankets in room. Fridge available for guest storage. Ability to use microwave in kitchen. Parking lot in the back, parking included in stay. WiFi available, but NOT reliable for zoom at least in the room I was staying in. Suggest Farmer and the Bell for wifi for work. Thermostat/heater available. Host reachable via text. What a great find!! So conveniently located - just off the village green in Woodstock, in a…read morerestored 1835 Greek Revival home. The prices of the rooms vary, but are VERY competitive. We ended up reserving the only room which does not have an en suite bathroom for $100/night, which includes a very tasty continental breakfast. (The bathroom for the Monk room where we stayed is just across the hallway.) The breakfast included delicious spiced oatmeal with a variety of add-ons (walnuts, chopped apples, honey, real maple syrup). Also available were hard boiled eggs, great coffee, a variety of teas, excellent bread and jams, bananas, apples, oranges, homemade pumpkin bread, Greek yogurt, granola. I peeked into a couple of the other rooms which were not currently rented and they all seem to be spacious and nicely decorated. Right now I am hanging out in the comfy shared living room space after wearing myself out XC skiing at the Woodstock Nordic Center this morning - only about a mile away. A variety of restaurants are within walking distance. And a bonus for us: There is an EV charger about a 2 minute walk away.

I wish they added the Maple Hill Farm as one of the choices as it was just as close but gave you a full breakfast and it cost less. The room was small but I didn't need much space. I wish I had more time to enjoy the attractive sitting areas downstairs. The shower space was small. If you are heading to the hospital for a surgery and need to do a washing prep ask for a room with the most shower space.
