Service was great, and the seating atmosphere was open and casual. The food was a bit of hit or miss. The Fried Lobster Ravioli were a bit unusual but pretty good. The bacon wrapped Scallops were perfect as they are wrapped in bacon and deep fired so the bacon is crisp, unlike if you tried to bake it. The crab cakes were OK with either their tater or cocktail sauce. The Mediterranean pasta which was scallops over angle hair pasta, with a cream sauce was a bit of a miss for the wife. I met my former soldier here to catch up with him & his family. He chose the place. It was a small, cozy family spot. Upon entry I was greeted and seated immediately. Ordered drinks immediately. I didn't order anything until everyone arrived, however, the waitress was very attentive. Especially, after I clumsily spilled sweet tea everywhere. lol. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was very well seasoned and delicious. I ordered the lobster ravioli which was good, however, the asparagus were tiny. I ordered a cucumber margarita which was very refreshing & spicy with the cayenne pepper. Overall, I would give this place another try. read more

Cute place inside but extremely SLOW service on Wednesday 3/11 @ 12:30pm. The lettuce in the chicken sandwich was black. The kitchen staff should be more diligent in NOT serving that. We called to say we were showing up in 5-20 minutes with 11 people on a Friday night.....and they seated us right away. In the window, with a view of the water. We also thought we were going to the Cyprus GREEK Grill. So imagine our surprise when there were no gyros or hummus. Luckily they have a great menu and we all found amazing food to eat. I had lobster ravioli and it was delicious. The ravioli were nicely stuffed and the sauce was tasty but not too heavy like some Alfredo's can be. Took my husband to dinner last night for his Birthday. It had been awhile since we had been their and wow not what it use to be. Not busy at all food took some time to arrive at our table and when it did food was luke warm at best. I had ordered the Cajun Chicken pasta and not only was it luke warm chicken was a bit tought, my husband had the shrimp Alfredo pasta and it was luke warm as well. I sent my dish back and just asked for it to be taken off the check and left with out eating dinner as I did not want to wait for anythin eles. Very disappointed and will not return. I wanted to see the Museum of the Albemarle and I wasn't expecting any culinary majesty while visiting Elizabeth City. I WAS WRONG! The food at the Cypress Creek Grill is at least a six! There is a chef back there! Linda and I were late for lunch and early for dinner, so oft times one doesn't expect too much. Let me tell you, Linda's Sea Scallops were sensational, and my New Orleans Barbequed Shrimp was prime delish. The homemade yeast rolls were superb as dipsters in the tangy sauce for the shrimp. The salads were fresh and zesty, and the clam chowder, you must try! Peyton was the best server but everyone was so very friendly and courteous, all a credit to the GM, Chelsea. Not that familiar with Elizabeth City, we could see the water from this nice eatery, but the service and the food was exemplary. read more

Ya know something... this is one of those crazy cases where it's not the food that won the 5 stars! First of all, it's a very nice ambiance. It's a smaller place that feels deceptively big. It's like a diner but actually quite narrow, and you don't realize that the whole back is the kitchen area until you go to the restrooms back there. But it's very nice inside. It was crowded with senior prom participants when I went, but I found my friends' table in front. And then over came the waitress. Chelsea (not sure how she spells it, but let's go there) was PHENOMENAL. She served all of us, answered all of our questions, talked about items selling out or close (like limoncello and calamari went to all the high schoolers that day), talked about favorites etc. Absolute gem of a waitress and we all loved having her there. And the owner came over to say hi at the end! And we all talked about Chelsea to him too! So that's where a lot of the 5 stars comes from here! The food is nice. It really is. The portions are just a bit small for what you pay, and I think that's tied to this place trying to feel nice. The summer succotash special felt a bit overpriced for the amount of food inside, as much as I love to have scallops and fiddleheads (and bits of crab meat, not as much as I thought). The soups were kinda small. Everyone finished their dishes, which honestly is rare in my experience in most places. I hate to use the word overpriced, especially because the waitress deserves nice pay and a great tip! She did say the blueberry cobbler special was quite a bit larger than the pecan pie I was eyeing, and boy there was plenty there, so yes! That one panned out! So maybe you have to decide on quantity vs. quality when you order? That's all I've got. There's a nice view of the river, there are nice people, there's a nice restaurant, so go have fun when you visit E.C.! Just have your last month's salary ready. Kidding! Not THAT bad! Second time dining here and the food was terrible. We ordered steaks, burgers, and chicken. The steaks were low quality beef like what you would get at a Waffle House. No seasoning, not cooked correctly, pasty texture. Chicken tasted like Tyson precooked chicken, burgers were dry and didn't have any flavor. Our salads had fresh mixed greens but the toppings were so old they were inedible - tomatoes were pure mush, cucumbers had dried out and started to shrivel, and the onions had the potent flavor of sitting too long. Our service was decent but not anything special. Most of the workers looked like they hated their lives and weren't happy to be there. The esthetic of the restaurant is very plain for the price of the food. It's super loud with very basic decor. It has real potential if some simple changes were made! Everything I have tried is super tasty! BFF and I meet there about monthly for lunch, and we usually have the grilled shrimp salad. Their accompanying cilantro lime green is FANTASTIC, and I once purchaed two bottles to take home with me, it was that good! We've been more adventurous lately, trying different things on the menu. I stayed three nights in downtown Elizabeth City. The Cypress Creek Grill on my Yelp shortlist to try. It was also recommended by the B&B. I got the opportunity to eat lunch and dinner here. This is a great restaurant. Food was excellent and the service was great. For a small city, Elizabeth City has some very good restaurants downtown and the Cypress Creek Grill ended up being my favorite. Note, due to the downtown location you have figure out the parking situation on your own. Good news is you can park for free on the street or in the park across from the restaurant. Place has a large dinning room with bar seating close to the back. They do take reservations but you have to call. No Open Table app support. Diverse lunch and dinner menu. Menu is American with a lean towards seafood. The very good - New Orleans BBQ Shrimp - Mahi-Mahi (special) w/ bacon wrapped asparagus. Loved the asparagus! - House salad with homemade dressing - Scallop appetizer was damn good - Full bar with drink specials. As my Yelp profile says "Drinking my way across the South" The okay - Ribeye in a bourbon cream sauce was okay. Ribeye at a non-steakhouse is always hit or miss. Highly recommend! read more

So we have been here well over dozen times... we are mixed, it appears it depends on the chef on duty and the waiter... great fajitas to horrible steak... seafood goes from dang! to okay that was okay... I have dropped my review to a just under medium... come on by and try for yourself... it's not always bad but not horrible either... a great place depending on the staff in downtown e-city... Tonight we wanted the ribeye steak with bourbon sauce, baked potato and onion tanglers (thin sliced onions lighted breaded and deep fried), rolls and a house salad... We were told sit wherever you wanted, we were the only people in the restaurant... Our server didn't introduce herself and kind of had an attitude from the get go, I chocked it up to RBF, my wife said it was like we were interrupting her... Our salad showed up with the meal!!! The potato was barely lukewarm and didn't melt my butter... The steak looked perfect and cut very easily but wasn't even close to hot much like the potato... even the deep fried onions were barely warm... all indicated that the meal had sat in the window and that's not the cook's fault but the server's... I had to get the attention of the server because she had not even come by to ask if everything was good, bad, or anything... we were offered for the meal to be comp'd but we said we will pay for what we ate... we received our bill and after paying the server she walked away saying out loud that "it wasn't my fault" thence this lower star review... read more

Arrived at 5pm on a Saturday and there were already people waiting at the door. By 6pm, the place was packed, every table was filled including the bar and the hi-tops at the bar, plus there was a group of people waiting at the door. I'm not surprised. The food, service and atmosphere are all that good. Rachel was our server and she was quite professional. Helped me choose dishes to accommodate my dairy allergy. She was personable and efficient, she knew the menu and explained how some of the dishes were cooked. - Clam chowder Hatteras style - a cup is a great starter, delicious, hot, nice amount of clams, great broth flavor - Seared ahi tuna over seaweed salad - big portion enough for two to share, generous amount of tuna slices drizzled with sriracha, delicious! - Duck confit salad with chorizo cakes and crispy onions - this was an appetizer special I ordered as takeout and ate it later. It was absolutely one of the best things I've ever eaten! - Grilled shrimp and fried catfish, jasmine rice - Large shrimp cooked perfectly, catfish filet has a light dusting of flour breading and pan fried, large portion, delicious! - Grilled shrimp and jasmine rice- Large shrimp and generous portion, cooked perfectly - Coconut cake - Rachel our server told us it was baked in-house, hubs thoroughly enjoyed it. We were only staying the night this time but we're so glad we stopped here for dinner. If you get a chance, check this place out. We arrived around 11:30 on a Friday and were about the only customers in the building. We ordered iced teas and a couple of appetizers. The scallops wrapped in bacon were my favorite. The bacon was crispy, the scallops were seared well and we got ten of them for $13. The kicked up tartar sauce was really flavorful as well, it complemented the bacon really well. The New Orleans BBQ shrimp were just ok. We got six shrimp for 12 bucks. The warm dinner rolls were great for dipping but the sauce was way too heavy on dried rosemary and sherry wine, they really overpowered the sauce. As for the calamari, we were glad to get the tentacles, always a highlight. It was a nice sized portion of calamari, but it could have been a little crispier. I also thought it was a little greasier than some of the other times when I've ordered calamari. It came accompanied by a bowl of Thai chili sauce, which was more sweet than spicy. I actually opted for the tartar sauce for dipping. It was a decent place to have a meal, but no more and no less. read more
