    Shrimp and grits with crackers
    Saasha G.

Small venue providing big brunch ! They don't take reservations and I got there early on Mother's Day and was told it was a 45 min wait . I realized it's because the place is really very small and all tables were occupied as well as the bar. Once seated we ordered everything that fed our eyes during our wait. The pancakes, shrimp and grits and the Arnold Palmer. The pancake is really huge and the berries were a nice touch. The shrimp and grits were creamy and I liked that the shrimp were chopped in the sauce, it was a good twist on a classic.

If you're looking for a cozy brunch spot in Brooklyn this is it. 10 all the away across the board and the wait is definately worth it. The staff is amazing nut that food....everything was delicious and very shareable. We started off with a biscuit with jelly, followed up by pancakes that covered the entire plate and creamy grits with shrimp gravy and catfish..yum and yum..stop by, you definately won't leave hungry..

I had a good breakfast here after my doctor's appointment. It is southern themed by the way. I treated myself to a watermelon spritz. It has a small dining room that provided an at home experience. I ordered the shrimp sauce smothered biscuit and it came with a hash brown on the side. I expected hash browns ie crispy potatoes instead one reminiscent of McDonald's. It was tasty anyway. The service was good.

Come when they first open at 10am. If not expect at least an hour wait afterwards. It's not a big place. The food came out pretty quick but when we order something to go, that look a lot longer. The service is attentive. Food was solid.

I came here with a friend and tried their chicken steak biscuit and fried chicken biscuit. Both were solid choices. The fried chicken was perfectly crunchy and nicely seasoned, while the biscuit was thick yet fluffy. The chicken steak biscuit had a rich mushroom gravy, while the fried chicken biscuit had a simpler pairing of a tangy aioli and house made pickles. Not sure if it was different or not, but the chicken tasted practically identical between the two. I enjoyed the fried chicken biscuit a bit more, as the pickles went perfectly with the biscuit and meat. Still, it's quite a simple meal. The hash brown was a nice add on, but nothing special. Ambiance was good, if not a tiny bit crowded, and service was nice.

Corn bread, fries and crab roll, shrimp and grits. The only thing tasteful was the fries and those crackers, lol.

The place is very small and food is deceiving, don't believe in what you see on their website. I'm a foodie especially about biscuits and grits. The food didn't taste good at all, so never eat with your eyes. SORRY Stowaway I will not be returning.

Enjoyed a late brunch with my friends at Stowaway and immediately knew I had to come back soon. I ordered a cup of clam chowder that came with some old bay crackers which was absolutely divine! I got to take a couple of bites from my friend's pancake and it was perfectly sweet and buttery. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves and the food, and I have to come back to try out the rest of their menu.

I was spontaneously in the neighborhood and was craving brunch. I actually haven't had brunch in a long time because I rarely wake up before 10am now. I'm actually so grateful that this place has a lot of sweet and savory options. I've always been the type of person who couldn't choose between pancakes/waffles or eggs/something savory. This place does both Its huge portions too, I think you could share.

Came here for brunch and I'll say I have some positives and negatives. First off the decor is very aged not particularly my vibe but have at it. The day I went the weather was in the high 80's and I was surprised that they had no AC or even a fan to cool down the restaurant (it was very hot in there). Also I want to point out that the restroom was very dirty, a little more bathroom attention can go a long way. Now to the food. Portions are humongous Okra -8/10 Pancake -6/10 Eggs -10/10 Bacon 10/10 Jelly biscuit -10/10 Hashbrown -6/10 Oyster martini -8/10 Can some things be worked on YES but overall it wasn't terrible.

Come Stow away, come stow away with me! Couldn't resist the temptation, but on the real, if you ever find yourself needing to break fast and enjoy a little hole in the wall, a rustic ambiance, and very friendly service, Stowaway serves. Tucked away in Greenpoint, Stowaway came up on a top ten list of places to check out and TikTok hasn't let me down before. If you're lucky to get either Miles or Sasha, you'll be in good hands. Of course the food served; started off spitting a blueberry pancake (pizza style); perfect size for three. The cake was made fluffy and the blueberry compote had that right amount of warmth and gooey. We each got one of the biscuit sandwiches and they were definitely a several steps up from any that you would get from Fastfood. A soft biscuit, perfect scrambled/runny eggs and a good southern sausage. I took a step further adding a side of remoulade at Mile's recommendation; choice. Also, stacking my hash brown on my sandwich, . Note, they don't do reservation but we got there round 11-12pm and they was seating for the three of us, but don't dally. Anyway, I'll have to comeback and try some of their specials of day. The shrimp and grits across another table looked pretty good. Either way, this is definitely my type of vibe I want as I break fast, so let me stowaway again on my next visit.

I've been here twice in 2 weeks and have had pretty good experiences. The first was for a dinner (2 ppl) and we were seated relatively fast. It was about 7pm so it was prime dinner hours. The service was fast and efficient. The shrimp was yummy but both fish and bbq sandwich were pretty dry. Also not sure if it was intentional but their pickles weren't fully pickled. Interesting choice. For brunch, we started with watermelon mimosas (DELICIOUS) and a jelly biscuit (meh). We both had the Hen House breakfast platter which was SO MUCH FOOD! Super filling as the pancake is fluffy and essentially four pancakes in one. I'll definitely be back for brunch.

The 4 star yelp rating is quite accurate. A plethora of factors are going into this one. But overall, a positive experience. The interior is small, but not in an intimate way. I am from St. Louis so I guess I am adjusting to the slightly "cramped" feeling of these NY hideouts. The interior definitely fit the stowaway vibes. You almost feel shipwrecked inside, and even the workers had a vibe, too. They just felt like they should be working there. That is intended to be a compliment. Very blue collar, beachy while still being super well put together. In any case, I did go about 12:30 on a Saturday so they were busy. The place only holds about 30 patrons. You could tell everyone was enjoying themselves, but just a but uneasy about the wait times which I did hear all servers apologize for. I noticed a lot of reviews mention the slow kitchen. It did however take a lot of time to get my order placed. I had to ask for a server to put in my order. And, once I put it in, nobody ever came back until I received my food. They gave me water when I arrived and that was about it. In any case, the food was worth the wait. The chicken fried steak was incredible. Being from small town Missouri, chicken fried steak is something I know a thing or 2 about. The mushroom gravy was superb. Hints of garlic with a nice saltiness and topped off with the rich, umami flavor from the mushrooms. The breading on the steak was crispy, and not too heavy. And, as all chicken fried steak should be: the steak was a little chewy, but not tough and not grisly. Of course, the biscuit was superb. It had a little extra flavor I cannot quite identify other than it definitely tasted southern/creole. Man, my first meal of my New York trip was pretty epic. Absolutely fire with respect to flavor and satiety. Stowaway, if I ever find myself shipwrecked, I hope it is in your kitchen

The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. During a recent breakfast visit celebrating both my mother's birthday, I had a disappointing customer service experience. I would first like to recognize the young gentleman who served our table . A mexican young man. , He was professional, attentive, and courteous throughout our visit. The issue arose when I ordered a Peach Bellini that did not taste as expected. It lacked the peach flavor I had enjoyed on previous visits and tasted more like orange juice. I asked if it could be replaced with a ginger ale. My server was handling another table and zi was willing to wait. . But a women of Spanish decent light skin and heavy set approached our table and explained there were policies regarding returning something. . Rather than simply processing the substitution, she repeatedly encouraged me to keep the drink and offered to add more peach flavoring. I explained several times that I simply did not like the beverage and preferred a ginger ale instead.. I also told her I an celebrating a birthday abd do not wish to go back and forth. She tried to explain all drinks are made thd same which is not the same. She has to remember she does not just represent herself but the Peaches establishment. As a former bartender, I understand that drinks can vary, despite efforts at consistency. My concern was not the drink itself but the lengthy discussion. I felt pressured to justify a simple request during what was meant to be a special celebration Our bill exceeded $100, and as a longtime customer, I expected a more customer-focused response. If there is a formal policy regarding drink returns or exchanges, it would be helpful for it to be clearly posted. They eventually substituted it. But I should not have to goI though all that. Overall, my experiences at your restaurant have been very positive, which is why this incident stood out. The food was excellent, and our server was wonderful. I hope this feedback can be used as a coaching opportunity. Customer concerns are often best resolved through listening, empathy, and flexibility. .

Their menu is classically simple but made with an abundance of care and no shortcuts in their cooking. As you are seated you are welcome to place your order in the front of the glass display, they cook everything in house and sometimes they run out of the specials so don't sleep on getting there on time. I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.
