I usually only send good reviews but I was very disappointed last weekend at the Strader's on Riverside. Two employees were very rude to me and my boyfriend. I asked one employee where the perennials were. she seemed annoyed that I asked her a question. I overlooked it but then asked a more detailed question about the plants and she was completely rude to me and said " how would I know?". I was so taken aback I didn't respond. At that time my bf came back from trying to use their restroom. He asked someone inside where it was and also encountered a rude employee. Needless to say we left and did not buy anything there but went elsewhere and spent a lot of money. I was so disappointed! read more

This Strader's is our favorite location to get everything we need for our garden and home decor. We ended up getting four hanging baskets for around the house and a ton of veggies for the garden! This place has the best variety around and their prices are primo! Their staff is super friendly and helpful when you have questions about pollination and what would work in a semi shaded area. They also were very nice when I asked 30 minutes worth of questions about fruit trees. We also ended up getting a weeping spruce tree for half the price of what Lowe's was charging so that was a super sweet deal. The garden accessories section was also very nicely stocked and we came home with a couple of garden gnomes to really spice things up in the flower beds. I'm a huge fan of greenhouses and plants in general. My mother-in-law bought me a few plants from Strader's for Christmas and so I decided to check it out in person and was pleasantly surprised. The first time I went I was starting a small urban garden so I just wanted a few herbs and tomato plants. They were super cheap and I had tomatoes all summer! It was so awesome and way cheaper than buying fresh produce. This last time I went we were checking out their house plants, they have a unique assortment that I think is pretty rare for most greenhouses around here. That was fun. They also have a ton of cats that they have taken in so be aware of them. I loved this grumpy cat the best! This place is great for starting out, avid gardeners, and those wanting some green around the house. They honestly have a ton of other stuff too but I was only in the market for a few house plants. I went in for house plants, and left with 4, including a massively overgrown spider plant in the sale section that turned into 5 large and healthy plants once repotted! All of these plants are doing far better than the ones purchased at big box stores and the houseplant selection has a nice variety in types and sizes. Staff were super helpful when seeking help with existing soil issues. read more

Do not use their mower shop. I took my snow thrower in to get a tune up and replace the scraper blade and sleds. The mower shop manager Tim Crader, intook my thrower with a difficulty of starting but would start. After evaluation, I was told that he was confident that he would get it to start with ease and run better. When I recieved it back, the choke did not work and it would only start after 6 pulls or more and constant priming in open throttle. If this was fixed correctly, the thrower would start using the choke and would not bog under load. In addition, he never ordered the scraper blade and his solution was for me to order one on ebay and put it on myself. This all was included in my estimate in which was for just under $200. Also when I recieved it back, the auger mechanism was missing a bolt/pin so it would not engage on the right side. I was charged the full $200 and my thrower was in worse condition than when I brought it in. After a call to Tim Crader about it, the day of a 3" -4" snow storm, he said "I can come and get it next Thursday and fix it. I was stood up for that appointment and then I called and he resecheduled for a week later. At that appointment, he tinkered with the settings yet still had difficulty starting it. It started after 6 pulls and him pumping the primer. His statement then was "it runs so what else do you want me to do... " as I started talking that I wanted it fixed right, he started closing up his trailer, walked to his truck and dismissed my call for it to be fixed right. He refused to give me his supervisor's name and said, I will have her call you. I didn't get a call. In fact, I called and got their HR manager Michelle who said she would talk to the owner. I was then dismissed by her response claiming that he did everything that he was supposed to do with the service and they would not do anything else. Tim Crader has terrible professionalism and put out sub par performance in repair. His attitude is disrespectful and poor in customer service. Someone that will half ass a job and then berate the customer when he did not do the job to a reasonable satisfaction, should not be a manager and should not be working with the public. Caviot: yes this snow thrower is old and it was discussed at the time of service. I explained that if it was too far to repair correctly, to call me, I would pay the diagnosis fee and pick it back up without repair. He ensured that he could do the repair to a satisfactory status. End of the day: I would have given a 0 out of 5 rating of this experience if I could. read more

11am on a Saturday, hot, humid, rain on the way. My local nursery was out of sod, this location had it in stock. Good parking, walk in and only 1 register open with 14+ customers in line. Really? After 15min wait and line not moving, they finally open 2 more lines. I ask for 2 yards of sod, the girl at the register rolls her eyes and asks "do you know where you are going?" -VERY sarcastically. I said "no" and she barks directions to the side of the building. I pull around and the man just grunts at me (does not even want to look at my receipt) and throws 2 rolls of sod in the back of my SUV, NO plastic, no bags, just right on the carpet, wet, muddy. Just turns and leaves. My 99 Expedition is not perfect, but at EVERY other nursery I have visited they put down sheet plastic or paper bags under all my purchases. Service=EPIC FAIL~!~ Will only come back IF I HAVE to. read more

Like that it has variety of products but really hate that they tend to seek profits more than customers. One frustrating product was hay(straws) it was overly charged $85 for one. I mainly compared to other places like Facebook market where it was for free or even as low as 10 per piece. Sitting here in the parking lot at Straders on E Broad Street and am leaving in disgust. The workers were taking care of the plants and discussing who job it was to water last night. Stood there listening to this with my wife in a wheel chair and no one would help us with a tree selection. I know it's the busy time of year, but I will help that situation and shop elsewhere! read more

Went in and needed assistance. Worker did not come up front and we had to go find him. No mask on for majority of the time he helped us. We went to the cashier and the price was wrong. We showed where it was at and they said it was all stocked wrong. We left and went to somewhere more helpful and professional. read more

Was starting from scratch, trees,foundation plantings and all in my 1963 house on 1 acre. I chopped down 2 huge half dead silver maples, 5-6 ash trees, a few had to go for my pole barn, and the others were half dead anyway from the emerald ash borror. The foundation bushes were old boxwood type bushes with huge 4-5 calipers and overgrown. Out all of it went! The first fall I was looking for 3 princeton elms, everyone has red maples anymore, wanted something different. Straders came through when I called they were the only ones I could find that had them. Got them at a great price in October also. This spring I was looking for a white birch tree, something different from river birches, I called out there, not knowing what they were, and no luck on google. The woman on the phone helped me and went and checked, and came back and said check "jack monti birch". Google confirmed it was what I was looking for, and they had them. Very helpfull. I like that they have different stuff. My trips to the nursery have been good as well. read more

Strader's bent over backward to help me plan and pick out the landscaping to redo my front lawn. Steve who works there has a masters degree in horticulture and was more than happy to share his expansive knowledge of plants with me. I took in a few pictures of the front of my home as well as rough dimensions and my ideas, and we spent over an hour going over different ideas. In the end, we had selected a few plants and a tree as well as mulch to redo most of the front of my home, which now has improved 1000%. My only disappointments were regarding the tree that I bought. 1) it was $130, and while it's my fault for not shopping around, I found the same tree with about one year's less growth, for only $30 at a competitor. 2) I wasn't told that the mulched area around the tree should be roughly 6 feet across. I had originally made it around 4, and the tree seemed to be struggling. Once I found that tidbit of information online, it made a huge difference in the tree's growth. 3) I was told that the tree would do just fine in the front yard, despite getting full sun for almost the entire day. The tree has had many of the leaves shrivel up and fall off, which Strader's later told me is because the roots have not yet taken hold, and that this will likely happen for the first two years. They then said my tree was better suited for a less sunny area, such as my back yard. Very different than what I had told them I wanted. read more

Strader's Garden Center does not honor their one year warranty on nursery items as they advertise. I was told by two employees that I could return my item within a year if it died. They told me to simply bring in the dead plant and they would give me store credit to replace the item. However, when I brought the $80 dead bush back in for a replacement, I was told a completely different story. Long story short, they did not replace the plant on store credit as they had promised. I will never buy another item from Strader's again. They got my money once, and it was the last time. read more

I usually go to a different nursery for all of my patio plants and herbs. I decided to give Straders a shot because they advertised their herbs for $1.99 which was $1 less than my usual nursery. This place is nowhere near us so it was a drive to get there. Yes, they had herbs for $1.99...THREE of them. The rest were all in larger pots and the plentiful selection was in the $2.99 price range...$.50 over the sale my usual nursery had. I was not pleased. I know $.50 per plant doesn't sound like much but it's the principle and having to drive over there. It should've said limited selection. Not like the higher priced herbs are better. The basil is totally dead and that was well before the heat wave hit. The fuschia we bought there looks like crap on top of our tall planter. It's constantly brown on top while the hanging portion looks green and normal. When we were checking out the cashier barely made eye contact or said a word and the other cashier parked a big pallet of things in our way so we couldn't even get out, we had to go back the way we came and then out. I wanted plastic to put down in the trunk and they didn't appear to have any. I will never buy plants here again. read more

I got "let go" from a job that I did very well at Strader's Garden Center on West Broad Street by the store manager, the HR department and the owner of the company, Patty. ...all because an employee had it out sooooo badly with some customers! The store manager John P said that it was my fault because of the marijuana card that I possess for my symptoms! He says that the weed doesn't help, as if I just smoked my medicine, or whatever with the man who flipped out! That destroyed my life. I lost my job and I'm still innocent of what he says happened. That's why I had to seek another job. I almost lost it all. My medical condition was blamed for all of this by Strader's Garden Center. I wish for someone to go there and ask him "why did you let go of the person who worked for you?" or something similar! I'd like to bring it all to light. Minor child recently worked here, manager shoved him, other employee witnessed it yelled for other manager and she yelled at minor for gossipping . There was no gossiping she witnessed it. It was blown under the rug and nothing was done about it or even addressed. When speaking to the manager in charge about it , well you can file a report and we can see where it goes. Of coarse the manager that shoved him ,said it didn't happen so that's where it ends. TO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS!! read more
