I've been seeing Shari for over 8years now. Her eyebrow and electrolysis work is the best you can find. I would never trust anyone else for an eyebrow shaping. Price is a deal for the amazing work she does. This was the worst hair salon I've ever been to. I asked for 2 inches off and instead the lady took off 4 inches and gave me layers when I did not ask for them. When I mentioned to her that I did not ask for that she was very rude and had a nasty attitude. I also went to the owner and he was even worse. I ended up having to pay $70 for something a did not ask for. I would highly recommend you never step foot in this place. They are horrible. read more

I went for the first time to get a haircut with Kymm. Firstly the salon is so clean and large, the décor is modern and the employees are so friendly. there are refreshments and snacks when you get in which are always a cute plus that make your experience more spa like. Getting my hair shampood was nice, I have very very long hair and for once it didn't feel like the person shampooing my hair was pulling it. after, I explained to Kymm the exact cut I wanted (with photos) and she cut my hair exactly as I wanted without trying to push a new style or new service onto me. she also showed me how much she was cutting before she cut my hair which made me feel comfortable and at ease. I personally didn't get my hair blown out by her nor have I gotten my hair colored by her however my best friend has done both exclusively with Kymm and I must say it looks gorgeous every time. the salon was gorgeous and pristine, the receptionist is sweet and helpful, and Kymm is an absolute doll that is amazing at her job. definitely ask for her. Straight Ahead is a beautiful salon. Laura is the best stylist I've ever been to! Great quality, listens to what you'd like and really works with you. She's friendly and fun. My hair looks and feels amazing whenever I leave there. She can also fix any hair mistake- like the time I used bottled over the counter hair dye and looked like an eggplant. After she was through fixing my hair color, I received tons of compliments on it. Laura is a true talent! I've referred friends to her and no one has ever been disappointed. I wanted to write a review for Straight A Head but more specifically for Laura the hair stylist I saw this week. My sisters wedding is coming up and I have been worried about where I was going to get my hair done. The past few stylists I have seen have given me white chunky highlights when I asked for soft blonde highlights. When I communicated this to Laura she understood and gave me a blonde that is natural and perfect for my skin tone. She asks questions about how you style your hair everyday to give you a flattering haircut. It was so nice to have someone put so much attention and care into your hair. Laura was very friendly along with the rest of the staff at the salon. I am so pleased. read more

I have been using SAH for years. One of their stylists, Kymm, is very good and I always ask for her. They also had another stylist who was very good who I would ask for when Kymm was busy; however, she left some time ago. For the past four weeks I have gone to the salon itself to make an appointment for a hair cut. And each week, after I would take the long train ride back from NYC, I would be told that my appointment was canceled. This is ridiculous. It costs me over $20 each time I have to come in to Jersey and the commute is terribly long. I would have really appreciated some more prior notice so that I could have saved all this time and energy. I only came in for this hair appointment after all. There are of course other hair stylists at the salon; however, I once had this older lady do my hair (who I was assured was very good at doing layers by the woman at the front desk) and it turned out terrible (an awkward style and looking bleach blond instead of brown with gold highlights as I had instructed). I had to get it redone afterwards. If you live close by and make a connection with the right hair stylist, SAH is a good salon. Otherwise, you might want to find a different one. read more

I wanted to choose no stars for this business but it wasn't an option. I want to first say that I typically dont write reviews online about businesses good or bad or bash people on social media but my experience this past Thursday at Straight A Head salon in Ramsey,NJ and mostly the treatment by their owner Gary and my long term stylist left such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't want anyone to go through what I did or go near this place because they are probably doing this to other customers there without their knowledge. I have been having my hair done by Priscilla since when she started at Lush awhile ago and had followed her to Straight A Head. I have been satisfied by how she does my hair and think she is an excellent stylist especially because it has been very hard for me to find a good stylist after going through bad hair experiences. My appointment this past Thursday for a haircut which I usually pay $75 and a single process $60 was my last with her due to what I have been noticing a habit of charging me for treatments that Im not aware of or booked for. This has happened once before where I was charged for a glaze and didnt ask for one or was explained why needed one. This time when I went to the register to ask why I was being billed $165 which is much more than what I usually pay which is $135, she told me my hair needed extra shaping. Extra shaping? Isn't that what Im paying for in a haircut?My hair is simple shoulder length and is rather healthy. I also felt for the price she was charging me she shouldnt have been working on her own hair at the same time and leaving me in the chair with a wet head. Yes it is an extra $30 that was tacked onto my bill and I have felt even from past experiences here that I had to be cautious. Still not feeling that her answer justified why I was paying an extra $30, I called the next morning and asked to speak to the owner/manager,Gary after Priscilla told me this time a different answer and said she had to put a glaze on my hair which was never once told to me,communicated, nor did I consent to a glaze during the appointment. This really made me not trust what she was saying and my intuition was right. I told her I felt like she was ripping me off and that she gave me two totally different answers as to why the extra $30. She also told me I should of known the prices before coming in. That's not the issue Priscilla! You are just putting things on the clients bill without telling them and hitting them up for the upcharge at the end of the service. No communication makes clients feel you are taking advantage of them. No client wants to feel that way in any business. Once Gary got on the phone, he said "we have been down this road before ,which I dont know what that was supposed to mean, and he said he was very busy had other things to attend to after I said to him how I felt that I was overcharged for something I wasnt booked for and due to lack of communication and conflicting answers as to why the $30 up charge. I asked for $30 to be refunded and he flat out said no. I told him I was going to tell people how horrible this salon treats people and his reaction- "good" So that leaves me writing this review. As a business manager myself, I find his behavior appalling that he would treat any customer dropping $165 in his salon that way or any money for that matter. I would not recommend the public to even give a penny to this place. You cannot trust what the stylist is putting on your bill and no support or customer service ability of the manager to take care of overbilling. $30 may not seem like a lot to them but for me who works for every dollar I make if it were communicated ahead it would not have been a problem. It comes across as shady and they shouldn't assume people can afford what they are billing automatically. Unfortunately I lost my trust in Priscilla and after speaking to Gary - who definitely needs to go to business school ,get an education, and some manners, I have disputed my credit card transaction as well as reported them to the better business bureau. This place has a very bad attitude. Now Im going to find a more honest and professional salon to work with. My lesson in business is always make time to listen to what your customers are telling you. Last week I was charged $50 for a haircut and blowout. I made an appointment for today for a blowout ONLY and was charged $45! I was told that it was because her hair was thick! Funny, but when I made the appointment I told her that it was really thick and she asked ME how long I thought it would take! She never mentioned that they tack on a ridiculous charge for thick hair. I stood there in disbelief and 12 hours later I am still in shock. When I asked about the sign on the counter that said $25 blowouts during the week, she said that it was for WALK-INS ONLY! Would someone explain the logic here?! They actually penalize regular customers for making an appointment for a blowout during the week? Furthermore, they make no mention of an extra $20 charge for thick hair. Sounds like deceptive advertising to me. They are not the only game in town. They just lost a customer. read more

I've been going on and off here for awhile, usually when I can't get an appointment with my real stylist at another salon. This place has disappointed me multiple times. Sadly, it has been with more than one stylist. Straight A Head is very misleading. It's very nice inside but the people that work here don't really know what they're doing. Karen cut my hair extremely poor. When I showed her my picture of what I want she almost didn't know what to say and it was a simple skater haircut.. I should of ran when I saw the expression on her face. She ended the haircut awkwardly as if she knew she messed up. Last time I will EVER recommend or go into that place again. Seems like the only thing they do half way decent is a trim. Also, it's a little stuck up in there. A lot of people who act wealthier than they actually are. Overall, I've never gotten a decent haircut there, visually it's a nice place but the people and haircuts are VERY forgettable. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. read more
