This was unnecessary and very unprofessional maybe if I wasn't black this may have gone differently. My 8 year old daughter joined their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class about a month ago and has loved every single minute of this class. From the amazing instructions provided by Coach Sean is a miracle worker as he teaches kids of all ages the fundamentals of the sport, as well as keeps all the kids engaged and wanting to be there. From the moment we walked into the facility to the time we leave (after class), the kids (especially mine) is so pumped up and can't wait until her next session. She gets home after her classes and practices her moves, so that she can get better. The mindset that the gym has is also unusual. Like most martial arts places, they charge you for your child to 'belt up'. Here, the kids earn their belts, and there is no additional charges accessed to the parents for these ceremonies. They also recognize kids who do well in their personal lives, such as their achievements in school, and even feature them up on their 'spot light boards'. The staff has a very good mindset and caring for all those who walk through that door. they go out of their way to be helpful, and every staff member is knowledable with the trade as well as the business. They have an amazing rewards program which can lead to awards for the kids, such as refreshments up to new Gi's, all the way up to cruises!) Overall, Jim and Phillipe have made this gym amazing, and by hiring Coach Sean, we are beyond pleased with the way that they are helping to shape our daughter. On a side note. Another great thing I love about this gym is that you need to "Earn" your belt. it is not awarded through time, but through skill. Something you don't really see very often anymore. I started this gym in January of 2018. I have always fantasized about hitting things (haha) but I never knew I would fall in love with the cardio kickboxing class! It's high intensity training and a challenge. The staff is knowledgeable and full of great energy... but thankfully not the annoying kind! This is a gem of a gym! Phillipe is training world-class athletes while providing a friendly, fun, and safe environment that welcomes everyone. These guys are very quick to be inclusive and one can't help but get sucked into the camaraderie. The BJJ training here is really top-notch. Phillipe and his guys will push and challenge you but never at the cost of skipping over details. This is evident in the technical delivery by the instructors as well as the students. It is also why I feel so comfortable rolling and practicing with the folks here. I travel frequently and take my BJJ training with me while I visit various gyms. Gentry's has been wonderful for our family. I wanted to find the right martial arts school for my kids and I succeeded. I used to take submission wrestling approximately 20 years ago. I was never great at it, but I know enough to recognize a good school when I see one. As a kid I also took a few martial arts that would be less than effective in a real self-defense situation, so I know how to recognize ineffective martial arts when I see them. I wanted to find a style and school that my kids would enjoy, that would teach them life skills as well as self defense, and that would be effective if they ever have to protect themselves. Gentry's meets my requirements perfectly. The instructors are really great with kids (even my 7-year-old son who is a roving engine of destruction). The coaches are also very talented. I know because I have grappled with some of them and it is obvious how technically superb they are. Over the last year i have taken enormous pleasure in watching my kids' skills grow quickly. I have also been pleased to see both of them developing improved sportsmanship. I recommend putting kids in their BJJ program. Bjj is a sport but it is also effective for real-world grappling. If a BJJ-trained kid gets attacked on the school yard, that kid is likely to just hold down the attacker until an adult breaks up the fight. That is much better than having a kid smash some other kid's face in. My kids love it so much that they get very upset with me if we have to skip a class for some reason. Oh - and they provide free wifi for parents like me who need to study or work while their kids work out. read more

I've been training with Phillipe and his staff for years. You will not find a more dedicated and positive group fitness environment anywhere. I primarily train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - they are affiliated with the World Champion Alliance jiu jitsu team, and if you are serious about BJJ, there's not much point in going elsewhere in this part of the city. I have been training here for almost 7 months. So far so good. I mainly do BJJ so I can speak for that and the circuit training fitness class.. The BJJ training is AWESOME. I am female and they even have women's only classes. The ladies are SO supportive of each other. I also do the co-ed classes and the folks are nice there. This is not Jim Bob's School of BJJ. This is a legit BJJ school from the world renown Alliance team who are multiple world champions. When people think MMA gym, they think a bunch of tough guys. They try really hard to keep things friendly. I feel very safe there as a female and I regularly hear others talk about liking the atmosphere. The circuit training is similar to Crossfit and you do cardio plus weights. Gentry's also has cardio kickboxing, Muay Thai, yoga and kids BJJ. It's a lot of stuff for the money. I have been training at SBG for a little over three months now, and have really seen improvements in myself. Couldn't ask for better coaches!!!! SBG has been incredible. Having gone to different gyms and done kickboxing elsewhere, none of that can compare to what they have given me. I started Jiu-jitsu this past March, Kickboxing in May, and Crossfit this past month. The lessons, experiences, and people are something you won't get anywhere else. BJJ is a load of fun. Not knowing what to expect on my first day of BJJ foundations made me nervous, but Coach Mike Rock puts you at ease instantly. Being one of a few girls in class means you'll definitely end up drilling with a guy. A thing they drill into you from the start is that person you are drilling/rolling/sparing with is not your opponent, they are your partner, and you do not hurt your partner. I moved to the Buford area midway through 2014 after I got out of the Airforce. The first thing I looked for was a new gym where I can practice Martial Arts. I found SBG which at the time was called Gentry's MMA. I still remember talking to Jim on the phone. So personable, very friendly and had all the answers. I was brand new to BJJ and took up the free class to check everything out. I'll tell you what this gym made me fall in love with BJJ. It's all due to the gym's main instructor and Black belt Phillipe Gentry. What a great instructor, he is there for everyone and you can tell he loves the sport and teaching others how great it is. I have been to many gyms and not every gym is special enough to make you feel like you are apart of a family. SBG is exactly that a family. Everyone there is friendly and cares. Also many veterans chose this place which to me means a lot. Aside from BJJ, they also offer Crossfit which I also partake in. Top of the line instructors and fun classes. I've been a member for almost 2 years and still going. I work in accounting so you can imagine how this sport is for everyone, regardless of their profession or their background. This gym has numberous Thai Bags, and a spacious mat space for Jujitsu. I went into this place knowing very little and in about a year's time, I competed in tournaments and went from a timid person that avoids eye contact to now having the confidence of knowing that if I ever were to get into a life and death situation, I would stare down danger and would know how to defend myself. In addition to the Thai Boxing and BJJ classes like other gyms, it also has a Certified Personal Trainer running Bootcamp Classes as well. The instructor is Alliance BJJ affiliated and we wear the Alliance Patches. So if you live in proximity or live in Gwinnett County and can't travel all the way to the Main Academy, Gentry's MMA is your best bet. read more

Awesome gym to train at. I was nervous at first because I was starting Jiu Jitsu again because I had a bad experience at the old gym I trained at during my highschool days. They have a well organized Jiu Jitsu program that teaches you the basics first before moving on to the advanced class, rather then just starting up in a class full of experienced students who toss you around like a ragdoll. The coaches are professional and fun to be around. They're easy to approach with any questions you have and they make sure you're training safe. I recently moved up in the advanced class and all the upper belts have been nothing but helpful in my Jiu Jitsu journey. Teaching me basics and techniques to help me improve. Every aspect of training in this school is designed to make sure the students learn genuine techniques that can be used on and off the mats.
