I love this nail shop! I have been here several times and each time it has gotten better! My pedicure lasts at least three weeks! The nail technicians are always friendly and go the extra mile for customers. They always have a steady stream of clients coming in. If you're looking for anything other than a very basic French tip or a solid color this is not the spot for you. The customer service lacks heavily in a lot of areas. I wish I could say better things about this salon, but after giving them three chances I can't. The one experience that sticks out in my mind is they refused to do my nails until paid first. Wow. Firstly, I'd like to mention how fast they seen me ! I spontaneously walked in and they welcomed me open arms. I walked in asking for Gelx however they did not have that, which was the best thing that happened! I got acrylic and she was fast and efficient and gave me exactly what I asked for ! I came from out of town for a wedding in SD. I called a few nail salons the day before hoping to get an early appointment around Ocean Beach. A lot of nail salons open at 10 on the weekend including this place but when I called Strand Nails she said she could open earlier at 9:30! I love coming here. They have great massage chairs and it's fun to watch the people walking up and down Newport. The pedicure is the longest and best i have had. Just displeased with this salon. I came in to have my acrylic nails removed professionally so I wouldn't ruin them trying to do it myself. Nail removal on the board said $10, I was charged $15, said cause I had acrylic (it's not specified) My nails were long, one of my nails was lifting up she used another to try and pop of the acrylic and ripped my nail off. So I had to cut them down. One of my nails not all was removed. Woman was apologetic but not worth $15. read more

I went in for acrylics, they cut them shorter than i wanted, could have been my fault.she made me pay before she paint the nails, okay.. But the paint job is trash. And when i asked for another coat because she clearly missed a spot, she seemed reluctant. In my rotation of nail salons, this has been my "current" stop for about 9 months. I get Pedi only, every month and always ask for 10 minutes additional massage on my feet/calves. Pedicure is in the massage chair with built in water basin - $20 plus $1/minute for extra massage. The same woman grabs me every time, her name is Nancy. 2 months ago I also said yes to shoulder massage while my nails dried. I tip $5 for just pedicure but usually get extra massage in which case I tip $10. The shoulder massage sucked so I only did that once but almost always get extra massage on my feet/calves.. The pedicure lasts, no peeling until around the time it is grown out. Walk-ins welcome, cash only. In my opinion, this place is a cookie cutter inexpensive nail salon. I have gotten good service cause this woman knows that I will give a $10 tip and she can usually upsell massage to me. It seems clean and the service is typical and pleasant SO, this place will stay in my rotation of nail salons and by that I mean: They are cheap and I get exactly what I expect, including the upsell and including deteriorating service over time. Yesterday I was there getting my usual routine from Nancy and when it was time for massage she asked if I wanted EXTRA time, 10 minutes as my usual and I said yes. She did not give me any massage at all with the massage - ONLY the 10 minutes for which I paid extra. I didn't say anything because deteriorating service is expected and why I won't be back there for a while. Time to head to one of the MANY other cheap, predictable, decent nail salons. I will again get great service for the first few months and then it will deteriorate and I will move on. Please keep in mind - I am detail observant and a neat freak. I've tried several different places in OB - this was the cheapest for a fill so I decided to give it a try. I'm usually left unsatisfied when it comes to my inverted (black) French, square tipped acrylic nails with gel overlay. I went in for a fill and was greeted and seen right away without an appointment. The place was pretty clean. The lady spoke good English and got a clear description of what I wanted and gave me her full attention. They had a decent selection of polish, but not all OPIs. For my fill, she used like 6 different bits on the dremel - at times uncomfortable, but she really paid attention to details to get them smooth. She had me wash my hands, some places don't and I hate that. She did a good job repainting my black tips with a starry black with very little sparkles. She also did the gel as she was standing next to me and a little messy, but they came out great - no bumps, very few little bubbles. She also used a gel cleaner on my nails before I left. :) Overall, I paid $25 + $5 tip ($20 for a french tipped fill, $5 for the gel coat) and I WILL DEFINITIVELY GO BACK, NO BUMPS OR FILL LINES. I mean, yes I will always be searching for the perfect set of nails, but this place is within walking distance and in my opinion, better than B's or OB Nails (I've tried both) and cheaper! Not a great experience, and not a great job. This was very rushed. I have gel done very often, and thought I would try somewhere closer to my house. My favorite color to get is white. Normally they do 3 layers for white. She only did two, and it shows. You can see threw them. It's also messy, and not done well. I had lots of the clear polish left on my skin. Though my technician was really nice and went out of her way to try a design on my acrylics that she had never painted before, two of my nails broke the very next morning! There was only one other person in the chair when I sat down, but there were so many people walking in and at least 5 phone calls for appointments. So glad I came in because the service was great.. I got the deluxe pedi which set me back $35 even + $7 tip. A basic spa pedi is $20. The shop is nice and clean with 5 fancy pedicure spa massage chairs. It is cash only so be prepared.
