I came to this salon because it was close to my house rather than drive to mission valley to my usual salon. BIG mistake. I have stiletto nails; I asked to keep the shape, but just make them shorter....didn't happen, she butchered every single one of them even after I corrected her. There was no turning back, so I let her continue. After she filled, I was prepared to give her $15 as per the price on the sign, she informed me it would be $20...after arguing for a minute, she settled on $15, with no tip at this point. So I came to this place on accident. I check Yelp and called B's. But, I packed closer to the beach and wondered into this place for a spa pedicure. I was not happy with the way the nail technician cut my cuticles. One of be main reasons I get my nails done is so someone will trim my cuticles aggressively without cutting me. This lady just pushed around the cuticle clippers pretending she was cutting, but it was obvious she was doing nothing. I think if you're going to do nails, you need to know how to do this party really well. I asked her to do more, she made an attempt. But, it was too little too late. The foot scrub was short and only on one part of my heel. I wanted a full foot scrub! Another minus point. I brought my own nail polish. But, they did have a fair selection including OPI colors. I'm pretty damn picky about my acrylics. They must look perfect and the manicurist needs to be gentle as I have pretty sensitive nails. I spent a year at OB Nails and they seemed like they were good when I first started, and then my nails became more and more untidy looking. When they made me wait 45 min one day after having an appt and then I missed a concert, that was it for me. Since I live in OB, I had to find another place close by. I decided to give this place a try and have been happy in my two visits there. I think the girl who does my nails is Tina. Very sweet, speaks decent English and makes my nails look SO much better than OB Nails ever did. She understands when I say take it easy on my sensitive nails too. They also do a great job on my pedis....they can do those cute little flowers too. The flowers they did last night on my big toes looks like a piece of artwork! They have those spa chairs which OB Nails did not have and I need because of my arthritis. It's too uncomfy for my hip to lift a leg up on a regular chair. They take walk ins for pedis. Better to make an appt for manis, but they can take walk ins if not too busy. And the best news is they are about $5 cheaper than most. Loved this place! My technician, I regret not getting her name, was great and friendly! My manicure came out beautiful and it was cheap! Plus I didn't realize that it was cash only. I had sat down and she had barley started when I realized the sign. She didn't mind at all and just let me go after. Another Plus is that on Sunday they close at 5pm but when I called at 4:45 they said they would stay open- which was great because I was in desperate need and everyone I called was closed. I have been to this nail salon a few times back when I lived in OB and only because it was in close proximity. They usually do a decent job. Overall, I went back there this past Saturday to get a pedicure because I was in the neighborhood and its pretty cheap. I asked for a regular pedicure not the spa one, becuase i really think its pointless and i just wanted my nails painted. Well they did not like this and were annoyed that i didnt want the full treatment, therefore they pushed me aside and made me wait. Other people came and went and there I was waiting with my feet in hot water, in one of those little cheap basin tubs, waiting and waiting. I asked a few times whats going on, when I am next and they handed me off to 3 different women. I was really annoyed and ready to walk out, finally someone came they did a quick job and did not seem to care at all. This place is great. I came with two friends on a Saturday evening and they only had two technicians. Even so, they had us taken care of in a little over an hour and they didn't even rush us. The prices are also amazing at $13 for a pedicure and $8 for a manicure. They have a good selection of polishes, they do an awesome job on both manicures and pedicures, and they don't pressure you into more services like most places do. The only downfall to Strand Nails is that they only accept cash, but there is an atm next door that only charges $1.00 to make withdrawals :) I will definitely be back. read more

I go to Strand Nails on a regular (every other week) basis. Lily is the best! She is quick, accurate, gentle. I know what to expect. She works very hard as she is the lead manicurist. Lily is assisted by Rose who is very nice. They are the only people, from what I can tell, who work here. I don't know how they work so much and remain cheery. Horrible. I went to Strand based on Yelp reviews. I did not get Lily, Rose did my nails. Just a straight manicure. I thought she was gonna draw blood when she was pushing my cuticles. But the very worst part is after she did 7 nails, I noticed a huge WART on her finger. Really? You can't get that removed? Come on! I feel like soaking my hands in alcohol now. Not friendly, not very clean or modern. They have a variety of the same shades of colors so I usually just bring my own. Its $10 for a manicure and $13 for a pedicure so I decided to go there again rather than the other places i've tried to save myself a few bucks. Won't do that again!! The main lady totally bad mouthed me to the other ladies, while laughing under her breath and giving me sly looks, because I was asking for acrylic on my toe (had surgery as a kid therefore nail grows unevenly). The ladies are really nice and accomodating here. They aren't pushy or rushing everything like some fast-pace, high-profit salons I've been to. My french pedicure looks great after a whole month (even with weekly romps in the ocean). However, my manicure was kind of a waste of money. I feel that I could have painted them better than the older lady (I believe there are 3 total employees that work here). Nice people, but horrible service. They fake-pushed my cuticles as I watched in disbelief. Cut off a bit of skin on the sides and did not do anything to my cuticles. Literally half-assed painted my nails so they would not touch the sides and wouldn't have to clean it up after. They spent more time doing the massage, which was the only thing that wasn't bad, than actually doing my nails. I am completely dissatisfied and will need to put a clear coat on top to see if it makes it any better. Bottom line... If you need a horrible make up for your nails, do it yourself! I was very skeptical of coming here based on the three stars I saw on yelp. I am extremely picky when it comes to nail salons. I called about 40 minutes before I arrived to make sure they were taking walk ins. I showed up 10 minutes late and they had no problem getting me right up in a pedicure chair. The lady took her time and shaped my nails perfectly. The massage chair had more pressure than any I had ever experienced and I go to a salon every two to three weeks. I was extremely pleased with my toes and decided to get my eyebrows done too. I was even more amazed because with whatever wax they were using it turned out to be the least painful process I have had to deal with. My eyebrows were grown out 3 weeks already and it barely hurt. I did not get acrylics but I definitly will go back to try those. I am still staring at my feet because the last did such a good job. $20 for a spa pedi at that quality is great :) read more
