I LOVE this little gem of a shop. It really is a shining star in the Oak Park neighborhood. It's no secret that the neighborhood is changing and as a BIPOC I love that they celebrate diversity in all its forms. It's a great place for unique, thoughtful and fun gifts. I often say it's like going to Target...you go there for one thing and leave with well, lots more! The owner is often there and along with all the staff everyone is super friendly. I love this store! I appreciate how they handpick such fun items to fill their shop with and I feel like everything is pretty affordable. The service is top-notch! I came in with two of my kids and we did not just feel welcome, we felt like FAMILY. We felt wanted and cared for. They didn't care that I had little ones pointing at things and (gently) touching things like a lot of stores I go to. This is a great place to get gifts since they have a ton of novelty items that you won't find anywhere else. You definitely won't show up at a party with the same gift as 3 other people if you shop here. They have lots of humorous items as well as awesome inspirational items. Fantastic store! Visited here for the first time tonite (just before closing!) and am kicking myself for not coming in sooner. The gal behind the counter, Bianca, couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We chatted about different items and I just loved the eclectic selection of gift items, paper goods, gag gifts, and 'gift wrap' that was simply to cool to use--I plan on framing a couple I bought and using another for my art projects. What a cute little shop! My friends who live in Oak Park suggested I visit Strapping because they thought it was my style and they were so right. Strapping has lots of cool and unique items for everyone, from beard grooming to Nixon watches, kids' toys, charming stationary, and home/office decor. Personally I loved the pins and picked out a flowery Frida Kahlo one for my denim jacket. I also really liked the selection of hats, shirts, and hoodies emblazoned with Sac/Northern California--they were different from what you usually see, so I also purchased a shirt. Strappings should be a stop this holiday season--and beyond--as you look to give unique gifts and support small business. I will certainly be back! read more

I've been in and purchased a few items since the shop opened. A few items for own use (coffee mug, 5 panel hat, etc.), and a few gifts for friends (hat, shirt, etc.). In addition, there also unique, fun socks and ties, a small section of children's toys and books, and lots of shirts. The decor is also awesome with lockers, cement flores, and a newly installed antique telephone booth. The owner is extremely friendly, and in a city with numerous stores selling what Strapping sells, the customer service is what keeps me buying. read more

As we were walking around the area enjoying the day of the dead festivities, we found this great place with some really cool items that were displayed nicely and inviting. I live in the Tahoe Park area and never knew this part of town was moving up since I am mostly taking 65th out and into my own area. It really pays to wonder around sometimes. I'm in the neighborhood about once a month and always have to stop by when I'm in the area. It's such a fun gift shop! I've bought cards and small gift items for several people including myself since I discovered this store during the holiday season last year. Most of their items have fun designs and sayings on them (I bought a pouch that read "He said I was delusional, I nearly fell off my unicorn" lol), but when I was in the market for a simple congratulatory card for a friend I was able to find what I was looking for. On top of having such cool merchandise, the store owner is very friendly and even has treats like free ice cream for customers. This store brings a lot of love & light to North Oak Park! Susan the owner won us over when we first moved to the neighborhood. We were taking our dogs on a walk and she was so excited, came outside to greet them, gave them treats and also had water available for them! (DOG MOM WIN!) The store itself is my go-to for gifts now, they have hilarious trinkets, cute house decor and furniture now. The other staff members are also always really nice and talkative! Oak Park's Strapping is a great addition to the shops, and cafes in the area. I stumbled across this store a couple of weeks ago after enjoying lunch at nearby La Vendita. I can't say enough about Strapping and highly recommend checking it out. It's the perfect shop to find something stylish and they carry many items that I haven't seen other places. You really can find a gift an inexpensive gift for everyone from babies all the way up to Grandpa. I'll be back for sure! read more

I adore this gem of a store! Perhaps one of the best little gift shops I've ever stepped in, and one of my instant faves in the Oak Park triangle. Perfect if you, or someone you know, are into punny cards, unicorns on everything, deliciously scented candles, and pretty much any fun knick knack for children and adults! Susan is the owner and is just a pleasure. Susan generously handed me candy on my way out the door, and the next time I visited there was a free hot chocolate bar available for customers. This store is super awesome. I actually stumbled upon it yesterday when trying to find a place that does cash back and I had to come back today to check it out! I found a super cute queer card for my partner for her birthday that is coming up which is what I have been looking for so I'm glad I stumbled in :) They also have a bunch of other awesome stuff.
