Strauss was the first ever apartment my husband and I were sad to leave. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing our experience was living here for two amazing years! I can't speak about experience without mentioning Elaine. Elaine is what keeps Strauss running in tip-top shape- she knows all the residents by name (and their pets!), she looks out for the cleanliness and safety of residents at every opportunity, and she is someone you can trust to answer pretty much any question you have. Why should you pick Strauss over every other apartment building in the Bankers Hill/Hillcrest area? Because they don't have Elaine. The building has some nice amenities including a small gym, and honestly it was not not needing to pay for a membership elsewhere. There are also several bus routes nearby, so if you're a bus commuter like me, this location was great! And close proximity to Balboa Park just cannot be beat. Every neighbor we met was delightful, and if you didn't want to hear your neighbors, I swear not one time did we hear anyone through the walls. You would forget you even had neighbors. I've lived at several luxury apartment complexes around San Diego and Strauss is by far the best. Elaine made it very easy to contact her when it came to touring the property and gathering all the information I needed. You'd think that should be the easy part but there's places where I couldn't even contact anyone. Everything has been a breeze from moving in to living here for almost a year now. Elaine does an amazing job keeping us in the loop when it comes to anything going on in the building or in the neighborhood so we always know if there's anything we need to be aware of or prepared for. When it comes to maintenance requests Martin is always very timely and on top of it whether it be something simple like changing a lightbulb or fixing/replacing appliances. Yaneli is constantly making sure the building is clean and smelling amazing in all the common areas. Overall living at Strauss has been great. I love the neighborhood, I really appreciate the staff and all the residents I've met or bumped into are very nice and respectful. Highly recommended! read more

I've been living here for almost 3 years and love it. Strauss On 5th is located near some of the best restaurants, Parks (Balboa Park) and nightlife. The apartments themselves are beautiful with modern touches that make living and entertaining easy. I use the community room which easily accommodates my guests for special events and gatherings including Friendsgiving and birthday celebrations. The gym to me is my favorite amenity as all I have to do is go downstairs to grab a quick workout with or without my trainer. The gym also features a yoga room which is a great space to stretch, do functional training or to give yourself a quiet space to workout. One of the best features is the staff. Elaine is amazing and does a great job at making sure that all of our needs, concerns are handled. She is super friendly and truly makes you feel at home when living here. read more

Strauss on Fifth was the best place we have lived in San Diego. First of all, the building is the best location, hillcrest is so fun, and everything nearby is truly walkable. I never needed to drive anywhere, all of my beauty appointments and doctors appointments were walkable on top of amazing restaurants and bars. But most importantly, the units/home/community in Strauss is amazing. I've lived in condo/apartment buildings for 15 years in various cities and Elaine is the most professional, wonderful manager on top of just being an amazing human. We literally never had an issue our entire time in Strauss, the people who live there are wonderful, and there's tons of dogs in the building also to say hi to on your way in and out. One time our oven was beeping too much while heating up, it still worked but was malfunctioning, within a day the Strauss building just came and replaced the whole thing. The service was absolutely insane. Highly highly recommend living here, we actually did recommend it to our good friend moving to SD, it is an ideal building and you honestly can't do better. read more

Our experience living at Strauss on Fifth has been absolutely amazing. Elaine is the best of the best, and we can truly say that she is the best Property Manager we have ever dealt with (and we have moved a lot). My husband and I value customer experience/service beyond everything else, and she is by far the best (our standards are quite high :) ). Maintenance/Cleaning staff are also very friendly/professional, and do an outstanding job; Martin takes care of maintenance requests in a timely manner and the building/amenities are always clean due to Nallely's constant efforts. She also cleans the exterior of the building every morning, which we appreciate as this is an Urban location and cleanliness is a priority to us. We have two pups and they love the staff here as well :) The actual apartment: We love the layout of our two bedroom/two bathroom unit. It has the perfect # of windows (not too hot in the hotter months and not too cold in the colder months); the windows also block the street traffic/sounds very well. I can work in peace/quiet. Both bathrooms are very spacious. We have a huge kitchen island and all amenities work well. As previously mentioned, if ever there is a need for any maintenance requests, they are taken care of timely. Amenities: Gym has everything one would need for an effective workout, including a yoga room. We don't use much of the amenities, other than the gym, but everything is well taken care of (lounge, grills, etc.). Other: Parking is very secure and we appreciate the lower levels/residence parking having closed gates at all times. Elevators are well maintained and we have not faced any issues. Overall, our experience residing at Strauss on Fifth has been nothing short of amazing, and we are beyond grateful for the staff here. I've been living here for a few months now with my boyfriend after being downtown in various apartments over the years and wanting to get out of there, and the difference has truly been astounding. The neighborhood is such an upgrade from Downtown, Hillcrest is so much cleaner and laidback but you still have a ton of amazing bars and restaurants (and Balboa Park!) all within a very, very short walking distance -- The location is prime. Also soo much safer; I'm no longer scared to walk our dog alone at night for the first time in years. The interior of the apartments here is beautiful, and our apartment gets a ton of natural sunlight. Also I feel like Strauss on 5th has a much more personal and homey vibe than anywhere else I've lived and the staff is definitely on point. Shoutout to Yaneli because she is the sweetest and keeps the whole building spotless. Anytime you need something, the staff is on top of it and they make you feel right at home here. I currently live in Banker's Hill and am exploring my next lease options, for next March. This is a new building that has intrigued me. The exterior is clean, bright and inviting. The location is prime, being that it's one block from Balboa Park and on the cusp of entertainment and dining options in both Hillcrest and Banker's Hill - you could also walk to Mission Hills with ease, although you would have to be up for it. I scheduled a tour. I was immediately greeted by a friendly professional in Elaine Cordova. She was respectful of the timing of my search and took her time with me. Answered all the questions and was thorough. The residences are clean, modern and have good sized patios. A few units I saw have stellar views. The community spaces are spacious and airy, all characteristics that are important for me. This location is also dog friendly and even has a convenient dog wash station. While I'm familiar with this area, I also value a gated garage. Strauss on Fifth is most certainly on the top of my list for consideration come spring. read more

I love living at Strauss on Fifth! My son and I love playing pool, playing in the pool, and the coolest is he loves taking the trash and recycling out!! He thinks the trash shoot is so cool. Update: Property manager Elaine Cordova went above and beyond to get new flooring mats installed in the gym, which has helped immensely with eliminating about 80% of the noise. My wife and I moved into Strauss on Fifth this past February 2020 just before the pandemic lockdown and we are so glad that we did! Strauss on Fifth has one of the best locations in all of San Diego as far as I am concerned. It is only 2 blocks from the NW corner of Balboa Park and walking distance to grocery, restaurants, bars, cafes, and anything your heart desires. The building is brand new and many of the units have unobstructed views. We have felt very safe here as everyone seems to be taking covid-19 seriously and the staff keeps the building spotless. Elaine and her team here are absolutely amazing and have always been available in case we have needed something. I lived in this beautiful apartment complex from March 2020 through November 2021. It is a new building that is exceptionally well kept and with easy to access amenities. One of my favorite aspects of living here was the genuine sense of community that makes this building feel like home. The apartment managers Elaine and Tanner were incredibly generous offering assistance and support going out of their way for accommodating requests and ensuring comfort. They were both very approachable and reliable. The resident community was diverse, friendly, and exceptionally friendly and respectful. The neighborhood is in a centralized and thriving part of San Diego that is close to a lot of the major highlights of the city but also being adjacent to Balboa Park was quiet in the evenings to get a good night's rest. There are a plethora of nearby walkable restaurants and coffee shops that offer a wide range of options for dinning or socializing near the apartment. I would have loved to stay in the building longer but moved out of state for work. They are a brand new building, so it was nice moving into a place nobody has ever lived in. There's a ton of amenities, and you can walk everywhere including Balboa Park. I've went back and forth on writing a review, but would rather people know than not say anything at all. Overall the place is not worth the money. Yes, it's pet friendly but there are way too many dogs. To the point where there's constant dog barking at night. Then you have dog owners who don't care and the dogs howl/bark the entire day while the owners are gone. Try working from home when you have a neighbor with a dog that howls the whole day. Plus, they say it's quiet and you don't hear your neighbors, but that's not true. I'm supposed to be surrounded by concrete but hear everything. The other night at 10:30pm there was a dog howling. Not only that, but there's so much pounding and banging at night from my upstairs neighbor that I have to wear ear plugs to sleep. I've only lived here for 3 months and absolutely hate it. Yes, the property manager is nice, and they fix things on time, but there's more to a property than the property manager. And the level of noise here is awful. This place is not luxury living, or worth the price. read more
