Just landed in Phoenix and had some time to kill so we looked up stuff to do and it recommended Roosevelt row. We got here and it was dead. Walking the streets we found Straw and wool and I was immediately hooked on these glasses. Inside was a vibe too and the lady who ran the register was super nice and told us about more hats in the back which I was also sold on immediately. Cool spot for a hat.

Custom reshaped hat for my liking.

This has to be the hippest hat store in town. They have an amazing, eclectic selection, and their pride in their artistry and craftsmanship is evident. If you want a funky, blues hat or a hard hitting rock-n-roll statement, a newsie flat cap, or a south-western cowboy hat come here first. I saw several things I liked from several different hats, and Asr was able to hook me up. He never oversold me. In fact, he said I need to love it. So, he took the time to steam and shape a hat that I love.. If anybody knows Bret Michaels, let him know he needs to shop here before his next concert tour!

Desoto wool hat, sad I didn't get a picture with the pretty feathers that were in the hat band

I had a really wonderful hat buying experience here from start to finish. I had heard lots of good things about this place, so I planned to stop by while visiting Phoenix. When we arrived the shop was closed, but the sign on the door said, "open by appointment," so I gave them a call, got the voicemail, and left a message. They called back almost immediately and let me know they could be there in 10 minutes. Even though we pulled him out of his Tuesday activity so that we could shop, the owner (Ali) was incredibly friendly, played an Outkast album for us, and patiently let us try on ALL of his beautifully well made hats. The shop is bigger than it looks from the outside, both rooms are well organized and full of beautiful hats, custom feathers, and some handmade jewelry. When I finally chose my hats, Ali even packed them in a hat box to keep them safe on my flight home. I left with one wool and one straw hat that I'm sure will keep me looking fresh for a lifetime.

Found this business through the Local AZ emails to support black businesses last year. All my interactions have been excellent, I've bought online, I've texted questions, I've bought in store, everything has been really great and their social media feed is quite positive and upbeat so I very much enjoy their posts. I also completely adore that the logo is a sheep (wool) wearing a boater hat (straw)...it's small details like these that amuse me and keep me engaged.

Have been visiting hat stores in Phoenix for a while. Mostly Western themed inventory. Straw and Wool is an uptown store in middle of Phoenix. Serve both men and women who care about style. Prices are very reasonable. Great place to visit. I didn't buy anything my first but will always go back to see what they have in stock.

Nice shop, friendly and helpful folks. Husband bought a new straw hat - looks great! Seems like a really nice neighborhood too. Buy a new hat and show it off at the local hangouts!

I went in search of ice cream at the Melt and this inviting shop caught my eye as I headed down Roosevelt. What I found inside was delightful. Fantastic selection of really cool hats in great colors and styles. The staff was super helpful and within a few minutes I zeroed in on my purchase. There is a nice spectrum in price range so you can feel confident to go out in style with one of their grand chapeaus on your noggin. Enjoy!!!

Do you want a custom rancher or cowboy hat? Ever wonder where all of those impeccably decorated…read morehats people wear at festivals and wineries come from? Well, some of them may come from a place like Rancher Hat Bar. I'm going to break down the experience because I came in as a complete newbie and had NO idea where to start and it really wasn't clear when I went in there. (More on that later. ) Start at the big wall of hats. They have a pretty good selection of hats ranging from least expensive (at least when I was there) closer to the big window and street) to more expensive (located deeper in the store.) There are a range of colors and slight variations in style. The cheaper ones started around $65 I believe and went up to $90. The next tier started at about $120 (which is one of the ones I went with) and those two tiers were adjustable hats. As you made it to the pricier ones they got to fitted sizes. Once you have chosen the style and the color you want, you let the staff know and they will go grab a fresh hat for you from the back. Then it's time to start looking for your embellishments. Do you want a ribbon, or a charm, or feathers or flowers? Do you want a brand on the hat? You can customize in so many ways. Layering ribbons and chains and flowers, etc. Once you have gathered what you want and have a general idea of how you want it laid out, the staff will get it all tied on and tacked in. Ta-da a custom creation! It can be fun and I did get a hat. When we arrived it was a little busy maybe 2-3 other folks in front of us, and no one had appointments. We were there for a pretty long time and while we were there it calmed down quite a bit. At one point our group of 5 were the only guests in the store. I'm going to be frank, the ladies who were working there couldn't have cared less that we were there. Answering questions about the hats, the process and assisting with the tips for designing the hats was really the last thing they wanted to be doing. I get it, it's the same thing for them everyday, but the Hat Bar is special because it's an experience. It's more of a service than just retail. They just didn't give a and it showed. And as a special experience that I would recommend to others, that's where it falls short. It would have been fun to have a more guided experience. To be offered beverages like when you go into Tecovas. I would have liked to see more display hats for inspiration or maybe photos if physical hats would be too much inventory. So many ways to make it special that sadly don't happen.

I can tell that everything I buy here will last a long time and is a worthy investment. I can't recommend this store enough. This is a REAL hat store…read more This family-owned business has been a fixture in the valley for decades, and while I used two different hatmakers when I lived and worked in Colorado, they didn't come close to the expertise of this outfit. As a native to the valley, the damage from sun exposure began as an outside kid. As a young adult starting out as a horse professional, I wore what most people wore - a basball cap. In my 30's, the dermatologists began their annual battle to repair the damage, instructing me to 'stay out of the sun'. Yeah, right. After one session of extensive repair, Doc really chewed me out! I explained my work, to which he exclaimed, 'Then wear a real hat!' The baseball cap only shaded my eyes, not my face, nose, chin, ears, neck, chest... and the damage was requiring surgeons. Seriously. So began my quest to every western shop to try to make a hat work for me. I had no idea that the pain & headache was because the shape of my head IS NOT ROUND, like most people, yet every off the shelf hat is! To wear a hat snug enough to stay on while horseback, yet comfortable, seemed impossible. One day I was miserable with yet another 'round' hat I was forcing myself to wear when someone told me about a place that makes quality hats exactly to the shape of your head, allowing for even, comfortable pressure. No way! What? Don't even know what I did with those stupid round torturous hats. Might've run them over with the truck AND trailer! You can imagine the rest! That antique contraption they use to get the shape of your noggin is the game-changer! Over 30 years, Az-Tex has made probably 6 hats for me, worn morning to night outside working. They last forever, and my new hats were usually a style change I was looking for. They clean up like brand-new and are really an item one could pass down to kids or grandkids. Retired now, I go there for my golf hats! So, again, sorry I hadn't reviewed before now! Thank you, Az-Tex! Your expertise made my career so much easier!

Their site claims easy, hassle free returns/exchanges;however, somewhere on the site (mind you, not on the listing or the actual order) their policy states no refunds/returns on any item discounted over 25%. I'm now stuck with ill fitting gear (which is correct size according to sizing guide). I offered to buy a $400 set in exchange and they offered a 15% discount if I order from them again...why would I buy there again when I'm stuck with a crummy purchase? If you're getting a "good deal", make sure you're getting exactly what you need, or you will be stuck with it...poor customer service! Never again.
