It used to function as a one room school, but has since been converted into a B&B. The western schoolhouse decor is fairly cool, but the location is the best part for me. Living in an apartment complex, when I step outside onto my porch I would be met with the uninspiring vista of all the other porches. And of course Stark St. off to my left. But for a brief weekend I could instead sip my coffee and gaze out at beautiful mountains, breathing the clear air of the country. Danny the horse would come over and say hi, and I would hang out with him for a while. The cows would look at me quizzically, as cows are wont to do. All of which is a damn sight more pleasant than sipping coffee on my small porch at home. Having breakfast brought to you at the time of your choosing ain't that bad either, I tell you what.

And I'd bet it's the best place for a 100 miles and more. The bedrooms are quaint, and lovely. At first glance you will be charmed by the decor and character in each room all the way from the porch through the dinning area, into the music room, up the stairs and all the to the way up to the second floor. The bathroom is shared, for some that is an issue but don't fret they have another bathroom downstairs. It is clean with plenty of room to work with if needed. Breakfast! I really should start with the breakfast!! It was honestly the best I've had in a very long time! How awesome is it to wake up to someone making you a homecooked meal!? I think it's pretty special!! I got up had a nice hot cup of coffee and sat outside and watched the sunrise. I felt like I was in a storybook. Living the dream! The wonderful hosts made me a special breakfast to go since I had to be out of the house early. I really hope I can come visit them again when I am on vacation and not working, as I was this trip! They shared some of the history of their house and Baker City area during our very nice visit with them. When we went to bed, we had the nicest rooms with antiques, old pictures, handmade quilts, trunks etc. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable. Upon awaking we were served great coffee and a very fulfilling homemade breakfast with lots of fruit, stuffed French toast, scones, and apple turnovers. Yummy. We had such a great time and would highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back soon!!

The beds were soo soft and comfortable and I loved the bathrooms and my wife loved the one with the bear claw bathtub and pedestal sink. I like the high ceilings! After three days, no communication from the owner(s). Called and emailed the owner(s) on 2/28/2022. Left a voicemail and an email message, asking them to contact me and expressing my desire to make a reservation. It is now 3/5/2022 and still no reply to my emails or phone call. We really wanted to stay here but, the owners are obviously inattentive. Not good.

Historic hotel, former sanitorium, the place is old, but charming for the old parts and well integrated with updated furnishings and decor. We toured the public areas and there is ample space to lounge and a nice pub to grab a drink and snack. Also, the hot lake moniker is no joke - the natural hot spring results in a very hot lake, but there are still birds and fish. We saw an egret, a few hawks, at least three kinds of ducks and several songbirds during our brief visit. Next time, we will bring binoculars and plan to stay a while! We were also really lucky that our spring visit brought out a young turtle - the person keeping the grounds found him and showed him to us before helping the little thing on his way to the lake. So sweet! Appears to be under new ownership, so some things may be different than older reviews. Definitely worth a stop for lunch or a soak if you're driving through and an overnight stay if you have the time. Can't wait to return!
