I was able to try a new truck today that I hadn't made it to yet... Street Eats DSM. Klickle showed them right off of 47th and Westown and I remembered it was food truck Wednesday over at the Regency buildings (4700 Westown Pkwy in West Des Moines). They normally park on the South side of the buildings... Last year there was usually three or four trucks out there every Wednesday...this year only two most of the time. I've had my eye on Street Eats DSM and as luck would have it they were parked alongside one of my other favorite trucks today...Jack & Vinnie's (owned and operated by Club 2000). But I came for Street Eats DSM...got to stick to the plan. I'd already scoped out the Rocky Balboa online. Philly style beef, natural cut fries, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and American cheese on a large hoagie roll... The other menu items sure looked really good too. Ordering and paying was a snap and I was surprised when they handed me a buzzer to signal me when my order was ready for pickup. What is this madness? Is this witchcraft? A truck using a buzzer call system... Have pigs flown and hell froze over? I have no idea what this costs to maintain, but I hope other trucks start using this... My buzzer went off after a short wait and I grabbed my sandwich and headed to the car for the short drive back to my office. The sandwich was $9 and a can of Coke was $1. So a total of $10 before tip... My biggest issue with some food trucks is that I don't feel like I get the amount of food I would at a restaurant. Probably why I like Jack & Vinnie's...this is never an issue with them. It's not an issue with Street Eats DSM either... I am pleasantly full, not stuffed, but I feel like it was money well spent. I'm not usually a big fan of potatoes on my sandwiches, but the fries were crispy and added a nice crunch along with being very filling. The sandwich was cooked well...all components...and the staff provided really good service. You can't expect much more than that off a truck. A big thumbs up. Glad I finally caught up with these guys. 2nd visit. Stopped over at Regency West for Food Truck Wednesday again. Street Eats DSM and 515 Pi were there. Top Bun and Roadside Tacos were no shows. So... Street Eats DSM again it is... As I said previously they had other menu items I wanted to try anyway. :) I decided to try the Cajun tacos today and I made sure to say hello to Aaron. He's a nice guy and the man can cook... I ordered the Cajun tacos...one shrimp and one catfish. 2/$7. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly. The other ingredients were fresh, and the remoulade has a great flavor to it. Like Jack & Vinnie's this is a truck I don't walk away from hungry or unhappy. Great service. The menu items are a good bang for your buck as far as size/quantity and quality. I know fish and chips and shrimp and fish tacos has been a hot item lately... I'd suggest putting this truck on your to-try list for both. The buzzer call system they use is genius. I am fairly new to the food truck world. This was a pleasure to get to try. Within walking distance of my job on a beautiful day. The truck was set up in the parking lot and the line was just forming. The menu was written on a chalkboard. The details of each item were very thorough. I was very interested in the chicken bruschetta. We ordered and it took about 3-5 min for the fresh food to come to the window. Oh my it was huge! Starting from the bottom was a big ol bun. Then was the hot fresh French fries..Oh and then the shredded chicken, bruschetta, and pesto mayo and cheeses. I thought the flavor was fantastic and wished I didn't have so far to walk back to my company so I could eat it right down. The amount of food was too much for my little mouth so I had to get it back to where I could cut it down again. Next time I am skipping the bun and having it all on fries!! read more

Wow.... just WOW! This place was so awesome! I stood in line for about 20 minutes and it was well worth it. We visited Street Eats on my weekly fun ride with our Wednesday night bike club and we decided to go to Confluence in hopes that there would be some food. I am a mostly vegetarian and eat some fish now and again but one of my fellow riders is a strict vegan. She was a little nervous to order when we got to the front and they were absolutely great. My friend had to doctor up there order a bit and they said they would guarantee no animal products. They have Jack fruit for a meat substitution and it was delicious. I didn't take the time to take a picture of my sandwich (partially because I was starved for the ride that I scarfed it instantly) but I got the Rocky Balboa which is traditionally a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and I did the Jack fruit instead. Boy of Boy it was delicious, I'm going to have to try all there food now. All there tip proceeds go towards a mission to stop Human Trafficking, I don't know if they switch that up from time to time but I liked that they did that so I dropped $5 in. The staff was friendly and the food was fast once it was ordered. If there is a line it is well worth the wait. Street Eats is DANK! read more

Caught these guys parked in the 900 block of Locust on my lunch break. Cool looking menu. Consists of stuffed sandwiches and fries/poutine. I got the Magoo Q (I think that's what it was called) sandwich. It consisted of fries, pulled pork, cole slaw, and sautéed onions topped with BBQ sauce. It was damn good. The pork was moist, the fries were piping hot out of the fryer, and the cole slaw was lightly dressed but still had good flavor. It was great. I added some of their house hot sauce for an extra kick. Very impressed. I will definitely be looking for this truck again in the future. read more

Stuffed sandwiches are a little piece of heaven I didn't know existed until now. Imagine all your favorite things put between two soft pieces of bread and that's where Street Eats DSM comes in. I ordered the Welcome to Iowa which is bbq, ham, bacon, roasted pork, Italian sausage and....fries. I know at first I was like "I don't know about this"..but trust me it works! Fries. The first day the Street Eats Des Moines truck showed up in our parking lot I knew I had to try it. We have our usual trucks but Street Eats was a knew one we hadn't seen before. I got the Iowa Poutine and my wife got the Italian sandwich. The Iowa Poutine consisted of your usual fries cheese curds and gravy but came with added bacon and pulled pork. Now my wife's sandwich was really good. Chicken, spinach tomatos and fries smothered with basil mayo and balsamic vinegar reduction. Yum! My poutine on the other hand... Now I've never had poutine so this was my first experience. I wish I liked it. This poutine might just be the way Street Eats made it or all in general I don't know yet. My poutine was extremely salty. The gravy tasted like it was made from a powder mix and was incredibly dark and runny. The added pulled pork and bacon only added to the salt. No flavor could be had through the sodium barrier that was this food truck fare. Now I have since had the Italian sandwich and it is great, but a coworker of mine tried the poutine with the same results. At least I know it wasn't just me. I'm sorry street eats I cannot give any more stars even with your great basil mayo and balsamic reduction you make. Either I need to be intoxicated to enjoy those salty slathered fries...or at least on blood pressure medication. I would be willing to try more if you show up again. read more

Overall, not a bad place to grab a quick bite if the truck is in your neighborhood. I had the Pollo Italiano which had great flavor. The fresh spinach, fresh tomatoes, and balsamic reduction over chicken made for an awesome combination. I will say there is a TON of bread. I broke my bun in half and ate it open face... I am not sure how people eat the whole thing. Additionally I asked for my fries to not be on my sandwich so I could enjoy them separately. The people running the food truck seemed very confused by this request, where really I didn't find it that out of the normal. With that, the fries were barely warm and far from crispy. Maybe that is due to being "double fried" or maybe they had been fried a while before they became part of my order. If the fries were crispier, I would for sure consider the "no bun" option in the future to avoid wasting the bread. I will say the time to get my food was a pretty decent turn around even with the decent sized line and prices were overall comparable to other food trucks I have eaten at: my sandwich (with fries on the side and not on) was $9 and my can of diet coke was $1. I would eat there again to see what the rest of their food has to offer because the contents of the sandwich I ordered was pretty delicious! read more

Was at The Hall in WDM...one of three food trucks. First ordered the Irish Nachos which weren't too bad but would have been nice if the waffle fries were at least worm. Ordered the grinder...I may have expected too much. Italian sausage was an extremely fine grind - not what I am used to from all the grinders I have had. And I expected that I was getting a side order of fries....Not 5 or 6 thrown in the bun for who knows what reason.
