When we had to make the most difficult decision to put down our 17 year old, Tigger after he was suffering through kidney failure, they were so very concerned about us and extremely compassionate to Tigger when the time came. They actually cried with us and provided lots of support and hugs. They even took care of sending Tigger to a great place to be cremated. A couple days after we were so appreciative to receive Tigger's paw print in a lovely velvet bag, a card signed by all the staff, phone calls to see how we were doing. After a month without our Tigger, we adopted 3 rescue kitties. One, Rigby in 2009. He's 12 now and is in need of a full tissue biopsy procedure. Of course we're worried but we have the upmost trust in the doctors. Dr. Zinn, Dr. O'Cain to provide Rigby with a comprehensive caring surgery. Dr. Palmer is a great addition to the staff. They are the best in their field, bar none! One of our other kitties, Meija had kidney stones that required surgery and later a tooth extraction. She is doing great although she needs to go twice a week for fluids which they lovingly care for Meija and have developed a sweet relationship with her. She is thriving with their care. Our Eleanor seems to be in good health with yearly check up's and vaccinations. If she should have any problems we know she will be taken care of. We feel like family with the doctors, techs and support staff. They truly are gifts to any cat parents

I notice he had a small tuft of hair on his tail that looked odd, but I just figured he had nipped at an itch. I was not told of anything happening during his session and even called, once I notice it was bothering him, to see if maybe a new shampoo had been used that was causing irritation or other dogs were having reactions to something. I was assured nothing different had occurred during his grooming. I was never expecting what came next. Two days later his tail had become super irritated and was losing fur due to his chewing on it. A couple of more days of his not responding to anti-itch meds and a cone, and I went to my vet. She discovered his tail had a 'guillotine' cut at his base, where the tuft had been, and the blood vessels were severed, like something heavy had dropped/shut on it. His tail was dying. After daily treatment, meds, and artificial skin attempts he literally ate his tail. $1500 later and major trauma to my pet and my family, he is recovering now with a bobbed tail. Throughout this entire devastating experience, the groomers never admitted to the chance that something happened during the grooming and at one point suggested I might have shut his tail in my vehicle's door! Really?!! All I know is that he went in as usual: beautiful, happy, and healthy. He came out with a dying tail.

We moved to Tulsa in December '23, with a 6 year old, Czech import German Shepherd that we'd had for a few months. She had been used for breeding, required a C-section, and was no longer useful to the breeder. As a rescue, the breeder was familiar with us (we own her daughter), so he contacted us and surrendered her to us. We had her thoroughly vetted when she arrived in Oklahoma. After a few weeks in our home we contacted our trainer and got her into training as soon as possible. She was sweet and a good member of our pack, but largely unsocialized. When we brought her home it was time to address the last step in preparing her for her new life in our home, having her spayed. We made an appointment with Dr Thomas. After anesthetizing her the doctor tried to call us to tell us that she had a spay scar. When we called him back we discussed the c-section scar and decided to wait a week or so and start over. When we picked her up we found that while he had her anesthetized, he decided to perform surgery on her eyelid for some small defect I had not even noticed and we had not approved. I wish I had seen the red flag. Two weeks later we dropped her off to be spayed. We called to see if she was ready to be picked up and were told to wait until five. I walked over to pick her up a little before five and immediately noticed that she looked unstable. Her gums were pale and I asked if I should run her to Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists. Dr Thomas said no, took her back into his office and started IV fluids. After wasting what turned out to be the last 30 minutes I had to save her, he sent us home with a vet tech carrying the IV bag. I helped the still unstable dog. When we got to the door the vet tech gave me the IV bag and we've never heard from them again. After observing her for a couple of minutes I put her in the car and raced to OVS, calling to let them know the situation and that we were headed their way. Dr Hodges, who has helped us many times in emergencies, stayed and waited for us, rushing us in when we arrived. He worked on her for another 30 minutes. She coded twice and was unable to be revived a second time. She died of blood loss from internal bleeding. Dr.Thomas or his office never called to see how she was. We filed a complaint with the State Board. Imagine the State Board of Veterinary Medicine being unresponsive in the State of Oklahoma. Would you expect anything else? If you love your pet, stay away from Dr Chet Thomas and City Veterinary Hospital at 36th and Peoria. I wish we had. We obviously live close by and every time I see that building I feel sad and angry all over again.

The same procedure for one of my cats went from about $150 to over $350 dollars. Any business that no longer accepts credit cards without passing on their user fees must post there policies. Decent vet care. Nice staff. Terrible management and business practices. This place also takes discount vouchers from a local cat group. I am very concerned that this worthwhile group will be exploited by this place. If you decide to bring your pet here ask for a detailed coat breakdown before hand.
