The supermarket has almost everything you need, just a little pricey. The produce is always fresh, the place is pretty well organized and there is always enough staff to help you out in case you need it. I haven't tried the cafe, but the supermarket is good. The environment is friendly. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it is pricier than other supermarkets with the exact same brand or products. read more

We stopped by Streets Market to pick up some snacks after having dinner in the area, and I forgot how cute this market is! The place offers a great selection of cheeses, meats, frozen items, ice cream, fresh produce, and they even have a bubble tea and a hot food stand inside. When we went, they had a sampling of some charcuterie as well as soju - ha! Prices are comparable to other markets in the city; I was surprised that they had Olipop soda on sale, so I had to grab a couple! I just had the worse experience with this market. I stood 3mins trying to order a grilled cheese sandwich and they stayed in a personal conversation for 3 mins and never acknowledge me and continued to make sandwiches - speaking in their language on personal matters. Of course, iI feel it's the color of my skin because the last 2 times they made faces when i ordered my food. Ive never had this happen before and I work a block away. I spoke to the manager and he didn't seem to care. the food isn't the same and the customer service lacks. The cooked food lacks flavor and will never step foot in there again. i will tell all my co workers and my Facebook followers if these cooks don't care for people of color then they should find another career. Streets is the closest grocery store to my house and it's always super convenient. It's definitely a small market and doesn't always have what I need but they have lots of staples and a large selection of surprises. Especially if you have dietary concerns (so many plant-based options!) and they're one of the only places in the area that carry my favorite hummus brand. They have a hot food bar and prepped food but I haven't ever tried anything other than the boba shop. Highly recommend if you live in the area! read more

This is the same selection you've come to expect from Streets, but in a slightly larger (I think?) location than the other spots. I'd typically give them a higher rating, but this location in particular has very poor (non-existent) cell service across all major cell providers. Why is this an issue? Well, for one, it makes coordinating the selection of specific brands/varieties of groceries with a spouse impossible. You can't send or receive a single text. It also makes shopping for ingredients listed in a recipe impossible, since you can't even do a simple Google search. This wouldn't matter if Streets cared enough to give customers the wifi password (by the way, this is the year 2023, and customer wifi is still hit or miss for some businesses). Whenever I ask, the cashiers tell me they're only allowed to give the wifi password to Door Dash and Instacart delivery workers. Extremely frustrating. Until they rectify this and allow me to shop for groceries like I can literally anywhere else, I'll be headed exclusively to Trader Joe's and Amazon Fresh down the road. read more

I recently moved closer to Streets on 14th and started grabbing groceries here on occasion. I've been pleasantly surprised! It seems at first like a pretty small city grocery shop, so I was happy to find they have a wide range of products. I keep going in there thinking "there's no way they have x" and I always end up finding it (like, vital wheat gluten or pomegranate seeds). I'm especially impressed by how many things there are for folks with dietary restrictions: vegan cheeses, paleo chocolate chip cookies, etc. Small minuses include how cramped it is, especially at the cash register. It makes it hard to do a big grocery shopping trip here rather an a quick run for a few things. Also, while they've got a big section of pre-prepared food, and a grill/cafe section that makes sandwiches and bowls on demand, the food I've eaten from there is just fine, not super impressive. When kombucha can't be found in every store in DC like you could in places like Grand Rapids, MI, you can rely on the grocery shops like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, and a few other places ... like Streets Market & Cafe !!! I had walked past his market for literally years, but I never had the chance to come in and do actual shopping. To me it seemed like a smaller version of the infamous chain grocery stores located throughout the city. Its definitely compact. I checked out the producer and it looked fresh, do I went for a pound of apples. Then I walked up on a small cooler of Natalie's orange juice. At $7.00 for a small 64 ounce container of juice, I felt that I couldn't go wrong. Yikes! Now this revelation peaked my interest. I knew that I needed a gallon on of milk, and a couple more isles down I found the dairy isle that had an oversized cooler. A gallon of Coverland milk is $4.50 which is pretty much what I am used to. Ahhh Ben & Jerry's can we get an $8.00? The price wasn't actually listed but that was my guess. Apart from the fun of looking at all the prices, this place seems pretty chill! read more

Came here looking for truffle oil (FOUND IT!) and managed to leave with way more. Loved this place. Lots of top notch foods and had everything I'd need grocery wise. I have to take one star away because of prices. For certain things, it has more options than my fave, TJs, but the prices are steep. I couldn't find a wine that was less than $10 (if you manage by proving me wrong with ONE wine that was cheaper, than fine, I'll correct by saying that MORE THAN MOST of their wines are $11 or more). TJ has one of the bst wines I've tasted from a grocery store and it's $5 (so many more sub $10 options). So the convenience of not breaking your bank here isn't there but otherwise it has all you need. The day I went, ribeye was on sale about $7/lb so that was awesome! I'll definitely be back read more

Just got back from Streets and had an odd/terrible experience. Just grabbed 3 quick things. One happened to say 20% off, whohoo bonus!! I can buy some gum or in dc like half a stick of gum haha. So i get to the register and as the cashier is ringing it up (it costs 4.75 mind you, ill repeat that 4.75), she presses something for the discount and it says 16 cents. Well im no math major....oh actually i am!! Ive been in AI and Data Science for 9 years and literally use math everyday of my work life! I quickly realize that is not 20%. Now the net difference is only 79 cents but I very meekly question the cashier about it. I apologized for nitpicking but I was wondering whether just for this one day I lost one of the marketable skills I have. I mean im not the best looking guy and my fashion sense is terrible but I CAN DO MATH!! I was even in those nerdy math competitions in middle school (I finished second in the state, humble brag). So back to this amazing failing of STEM. Well the cashier checks with their coworker and OMG they get the same thing! So im in legit awe. So the 79 cents is not a big deal but the cashier looked at me, said something under their breathe and just walked away while ripping away the receipt as I was trying to say thank you (and surprisingly i was not doing it sarcastically). Well normally I go in earlier (midday) and order a sandwich after my workout at Anthony Bowen. I thought I might do the same today. And was happy that the deli didn't close until 8 pm. Went in and waited at the deli for about 5 min as one woman walked away when I came up, two others chatted about something else and yet another kept her head down. I left disappointed. I ran into Yes! to get some hummus--Hope brand Thai Coconut Curry Hummus. I've only been able to find it at Yes! but not at all locations. Yes failed me again so I had to hit the Streets. Streets had a nice hummus selection. I wanted something to snack on and they had me. They had Carrot Sriracha, some of this, some of that. New Millennium hummus. The most progressive of the mashed bean variety was their Tsiona Ethiopian dips. They had a plethora. I was not hip to Tsiona but Streets made me. I got the Red Split Lentil and spoiler alert, it was legit. I will try all the other flavors in due time. I like that Streets doesn't sell the same thing as Yes nor the nearby 7-Eleven. Streets comes through in the clutch and goes hard in the Upper Cardoza paint. I was in and out in a breeze, with a good purchase while Yes! had a long line. read more

I want to start by saying that I love Streets Market. Despite their size they have a great variety of groceries and beer/wine selection, and I have made a habit of dropping by before work or on lunch for a sandwich, or a tea from Spot of Tea. However, I am biggening to find it hard to look past the quality of the deli. I feel like there is no consistency to the menu; sometimes sandwich meat is heated on the flat top, sometimes it is cold. Today I ordered a turkey club on rye, and instead I was served heated and chopped turkey slices on wheat. I have never had a warm turkey club, which was disappointing in its own right since I was really craving a cold sandwich, but the fact that the meat was chopped up like a philly cheesesteak is just baffling. To be honest, I kind of just expect something to be wrong with my sandwich from Streets at this point, which is frustrating given how much I want to like this place. read more

Food here is pricey, but really good. I've had a few items from their menu: miso soup, gyoza, hibachi meals, shrimp tempura udon and their spicy pork bibimbap. Great quality food and overall delicious. I had the bibimbap last night and the portion was large and they weren't stingy with the spicy pork. Streets is your basic, neighborhood grocery store. It's on the corner of 14th and Belmont, where very limited street parking is available. The store is warm, sunny, and clean. In terms of food quality, it is generally very good. The meat selection is excellent, and the price of the meat here is amongst the lowest I've found in DC. Some downsides: the prices of non-meat items can be high, and the aisles are narrow and strangely organized. The staff members here are very helpful and friendly. Overall, Streets is a good resource if you need to grab a couple extra things for a recipe, or some beer on the way to a party. The prices are a little high for weekly shopping! read more

The best thing about this market is the wide range of selections. You'll find a bit of everything, fancy items never seen at Whole Foods etc, items you'll find at WF and still be able to pick up Goya products. There are household items and lots of wines and beers. I didn't notice a lot of local or organic fresh meat. If you live in the neighborhood, I can see how this place could satisfy a lot, if not most of your needs, with maybe an occasional trip to a Safeway etc. It's pricey though!! My preference is a weekly trip to a big box and supplement with Yes Organic for a few specialty items. The deli sandwich was pretty disappointing. It gets two stars, which is a generous rating. For the cost, Taylor would be the way to go. The fries were good? They weren't the kind I like, somehow textured, but super hot, which is good. I like this grocery store but they are bad about selling expired items. On November 6th I bought this garlic. There was a sticker over the expiration date. When I got home I peeled the sticker off and saw that the garlic expired in October (garlic lasts a long time so this was pretty old). I wouldn't have thought much about it but the sticker is a Canadian organic sticker while the top of the package clearly says the garlic is grown in California. It appears that rather than throwing out expired produce, they just hide the expiration date with a produce sticker. read more

My local Streets Market is on 14th St NW at Belmont. Throughout the pandemic, this has become my store of choice. From entering to checking out, I always get the best service. There's a friendly person (Sharon) greeting guests at the front door. She is a delight! There's always sanitized baskets and a sanitizer dispenser for hygiene. When no one else had toilet paper, Streets seemed to have plenty. And the produce department is stocked with the freshest fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They usually have more cashiers than any other store, and sometimes a cashier will alternate between 2 stations to move the line faster. (I hope I don't get anyone in trouble.) I could go on and on. The meat section, the sandwich counter, etc. I'm a happy camper at Streets. read more

I miss living on U Street almost entirely because of Streets. I'm so excited to see they're expanding in the area (including in Dupont!). Why? For a grocery store, their sushi and prepared food section (with a lot of Asian inspired food) is great and affordable. Their selection of Asian sauces, spices, noodles, etc. is almost unrivaled within the District (there are two exceptions). They sell a great variety of local foods and desserts (mostly in their frozen and refrigerated sections) including Cava hummus, soups, the Cookie Jar, biscuits and more -- so you can skip the trip to Union Market. If you're lucky enough to have them near your apartment, they're a great alternative to other chains. read more

The grocery section is actually pretty big if you walk towards the back, many different low, med & high-end products for honey, pasta, coffee, soaps. I'd say it's a great spot for grocery shopping (definitely comparable prices to other stores if you avoid the fancy stuff) and even a handy store for last minute gifts!! Streets gets 5 stars from me for convenience, being located a measly 50 feet or less from the front door of my building. So you can say I'm here often. Probably 4-5 times a week. I definitely don't do my regular grocery shop here, but Streets always has my back for that ingredient or two I forgot to pick up or ran out of mid-recipe. They are our go-to for a snack attack or late-night craving, since they are open until 10. Prices truly vary, some things are astronomically more expensive than Harris Teeter/Safeway, etc. and then some things are comparable to Trader Joe's prices. As someone who comes so often, I am going to list some hits and best buys from Streets. Fresh herbs: They have packages of fresh herbs, ie rosemary, thyme, dill, sage, etc. in the back of the produce section near the mushrooms. The prices are much lower than big chain grocery store prices. Raw honey: I pick up a big bottle of raw honey/honey comb for $3. It's organic and a much richer flavor than the BS you get in the bear-shaped bottle. Fresh cheese: They have a nice-sized selection right up front near the register. Smoked gouda, parm, marscapone, feta, mozz and more. Prices are better than chain grocery stores but not quite as low as Trader Joe's (selection isn't as big as TJ's either but still good comparatively) Asian groceries: They have a good share of Asian sauces, spices, noodles, etc. that you can't find at the regular chains. Indy/local/small-batch goods: They sell a variety of local desserts up front and in the cooler section, they have some small-batch ice creams and delicious ice cream sandwiches. Cava humus, Poppy stuffed bagels, The Cookie Jar DC edible cookie dough, etc. Beer & wine: Streets has a decent selection of beer and wine at market prices. There aren't too many beer & wine stores in a close radius, so by default, Streets is the best within a few blocks. Mochi: Fresh and frozen. Meat, milk, bread, cookies, etc. are all way higher priced here than Harris Teeter or similar, so skip those and go for all the aforementioned. They also have a cafe where you can pick up deli sandwiches, sushi, soup, pre-made meals, breakfast and desserts. Or stop in for coffee in the morning for under $2 Thanks Streets. Disappointed & Embarrassed.... I have worked along the U Street corridor for a few years and frequently recommend Streets on 14th to co-workers and business associates. Today, I talked a few people into walking to Streets for lunch. Bad idea.... I have noticed a few changes in the store, not for the better, but today it was blaringly obvious. The contrast between the high standards of what "was" Streets and what greeted me today were painfully obvious. It appeared as if the staff (a lot of new faces) were in training. Two women appeared to be in charge. One was instructing staff behind the counter on what to do and another woman appeared to take inventory. No one returned smiles from customers and everyone appeared too busy. Eventually, I asked the inventory lady, whom I assumed was a manager, if the store was now under new ownership. She curtly replied, "Streets is still Streets". I assured her that I did not ask if the name changed, but if management/ownership changed. She then dropped her head and replied, "No". Meanwhile, back at the hot food/deli counter, my guests ordered a cheeseburger, steak and cheese sub, and fries to go. The fries were hot and plentiful, but he burger and steak and cheese sandwiches left a lot to be desired. The meat was dry and clearly not up to Streets' usual standards. Looks like they are cutting corners, changed suppliers or simply do not take pride in product or presentation anymore. Who knows, it may be a combination of all these things. In the past, Streets has been known for quality cold and hot sandwiches, Thursday cooking demonstrations, prepared pasta and salad options, etc. So, I always felt confident recommending Streets because there was something for everyone. Not anymore. My guests were disappointed in what should have been basic fare and I was embarrassed that I had recommended Streets. **Streets owners/management, if you are reading this...go back to what worked for you...quality products and presentation as well as pleasant and attentive customer service. This has been our home market for the past 5 years. However yesterday as we were coming back home we wanted to order sandwiches and call them on the phone, after checking out their menu. While we were ordering from one of their employees, another employee rudely scream over the phone to my wife telling us we need it to coming in instead of order on the phone. One thing we wanted to be able to do was not having to wait inside the store due to Covid-19 risks, yet this lady gets to be very rude at us on the phone.... I am legitimately in awe of what I just witnessed at this grocery store. I've been living within a block of this store for over 2 years and shop here regularly. The clerks/employees are Horribly rude, but tonight, the level of aggressive hostility just blew me away. I witnessed a woman in front of me in line ask about the sushi which she apparently thought was 20% off after a certain time. The clerk (who claimed she was the store manager) aggressively informed the woman that SHE decided when the sushi went on sale - apparently on her whim depending on how much sushi was left. The customer asked if they would honor the discount since she had been informed by a prior manager that it went on sale at a certain time. The manager then became even more aggressive and started asking her colleagues (and even other patrons) to agree with her that the customer was the problem. Even though woman buying the food was clearly becoming more frustrated, she was being polite. Then the kicker. The manager, Verbatim, said to the customer: "Don't worry. I'll see you on the street." I was floored. It was so clearly meant as a threat. The customer, then said "Are you threatening me?" and the manager goes "Oh no, I was saying, that I'll definitely see you on the street... but i'll be nice to you, don't worry." I will never return here. I will also make sure to escalate this because it legitimately made me nervous to witness. Trader Joe's, Yes Organic Market, Whole Foods are all within a few blocks and I have, quite literally, Never seen behavior like this from the staff at any of these other grocery stores. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The "manager" even changed her name when the woman (customer) asked for it from something that sounded like "Cantral" to "Uniqua" and refused to give the customer the general manager's name when she asked for it. When she continued to ask the female 'manager' turned her back on the woman until a male clerk finally gave her a name. I was seriously uncomfortable witnessing the way this customer was treated. The employees, who clearly banded together, against this woman seemed to be looking for a fight. But the threat against her "on the street" went beyond anything I'd ever seen. read more
