The owners go out their way to make everyone welcome. There are a lot of gyms in Portland but nothing compares to having a clean gym, with clean, hot showers and of course towel service. There's a sauna, a steam room and massage therapist on site. There's regular classes from TRX to yoga. If you want a good work out, try the kettle ball class and sign up with one of the trainers. I've been members of two other gyms in the last 4 years here. This one is home.

The staff here are extremely friendly and great you by name when you enter and leave. The equipment and the club are Clean and well maintained. There are both work out towels and cleaning supplies to wipe down your equipment readily available through the club. The locker rooms are clean and constantly maintained throughout the day. I often use the steam room or sauna following my workout. Additionally, I take advantage of a monthly onsite massage There are always a fresh stack of towels and the showers are clean and spacious. I also like the shampoo, conditioner and liquid soap all available. I am thrilled my husband and I found a health club convenient to our home.

If you're new to CrossFit like I was, I can't think of a better "box" (that's crossfit vernacular for "gym") to go to in order to try out the regimen to see if you like it. Having previously relied on my own gym routine of lifting weights and doing cardio, I wasn't seeing the results I thought I should be seeing and I wanted to shake up my routine and try something different. I quickly felt comfortable and over a day or two I was no longer concerned about my appearance or lack of skills. There are some seasoned athletes at every crossfit box, but my experience is that I see athletes at every stage of skill and fitness at CrossFit Immense. Lyman is the owner and principal trainer here, and he's very knowledgeable, personable and professional -- if you're starting out at a gym routine or even if you're a seasoned weight-lifter, it's always good to be well-coached -- you'll get that experience at CrossFit Immense. Coaching is an on-going, daily experience at a crossfit box, it's all part of your membership fees. I've learned so much over the past two years about fitness, form, mobility and even diet.

A colleague recommended me a personal trainer they knew at a nearby gym and I managed to book an…read moreintro with the wrong trainer. Fortunately, the wrong trainer turned out to be Alberto -- who ended up being the right trainer (for me)! As of the time of writing this, I've been working out with Alberto twice each week for over a year. One of the first things he did was help me recalibrate my diet/macros, which wasn't something that my previous trainer (a few years ago) spent much time with me. The approach was customized to my own health and performance goals. Having an opportunity to work with him, he has a good cadence of going into a targeted zone for around a month and then begins to shift. This has helped me get better at planning my solo workouts (i.e., if I know I have another big leg day coming up -- I might focus elsewhere the days leading into it). Results? Down ~20lbs and just got back from a session where I broke my personal best for deadlifting. I've never felt stronger. My only hesitation in recommending Alberto is that more people might make him less available for me. :-)
