They kept me waiting 25 minutes for a 25-minute stretch. The therapist was focused on selling packages rather than tending to her customer. On top of that, I am obviously physically disabled and Heather asked me to transfer on to a bench without support and then proceeded to leave me on the bench. What a joke! I am delighted (relieved is a better word!) to have discovered StretchLab and Val. Enjoyed my first stretch yesterday and already called back today to sign up for a package. There is a tremendous difference in doing stretches on my own to being stretched--in a positive, good way. In my case, stretching is much more beneficial than the massages I had regularly. Val was excellent in first discussing areas I felt needed attention and stretching me through them. She is very attentive, a great communicator and careful to ask about my limits. Watch out for the hard sell. You'll get a workout saying no to the membership pitch. The stretch part of the experience was excellent, and I appreciated it. I'd come in after a weekend of working out and was wondering about assisted stretching as a recovery mode -- maybe as an alternative to massage. The actual stretching was great, and I left much less sore. Before I could walk out, I was given an extremely aggressive sales pitch for their membership program. Like, MLM or timeshare-level aggressive. I think I had to say no to the membership about four times before I left. Then, the next day, I got two texts and a call about membership. Looking into the membership, I realized why there was the hard sell. You pay upfront for four sessions a month and it's use-it-or-lose it, no rollover. You must cancel at least 30 days before the next billing period. This feels predatory. It's really a shame such bad business practices are attached to what did feel like a genuinely great recovery modality. read more

My stretch sessions are so relaxing and fun that they feel almost self indulgent, but they are part of my self care, and maintaining/increasing flexibility is important as I get older. It's been a little over a year that I have been going to StretchLab, I have the 4 sessions/month plan. I try to go every week but sometimes my schedule just gets too full and so I'll do back-to-back 50 min session. It's been a positive experience for me and I wish I could go more. Over the past several months, I have stretched with many different team members depending on my schedule and their availability. The team members that I regularly stretch with are Alora, Jordan, Jocelyn, and Alexis. I am very grateful to each of them for their patience and support. I don't always maintain stretching on my own between sessions and they are always gracious with me and meet me where I am at in the moment each time I show up. The team members at this location are truly the reason that I show up even when I would rather go straight home after work or get up early to come to a weekend appointment even when I would rather lazy in the bed. StretchLab in Oakland is an interesting facility. Everyone probably needs to work on their mobility and this business does assisted stretching. Depending on who you get, your experience can be great or unenjoyable. It helps if you know why you're going in and have specific flexibility goals for the "flexologists" to assist you with. They assist you by recommending stretches that you can do on your own. Make sure to listen to your body and be vocal if something feels off, even if you can stretch it without pain. I left the first time with a huge knot in my trapezius because the flexologist wanted me to really push into them during some upper body stretches and it wasn't right for me. If you ever get numbness, tingling, or pins/needles sensation during a stretch, tell them immediately. This is due to a lack of bloodflow to an area; it's not an indication of a good stretch. The part that always makes me the most uncomfortable is while I'm trying to relax into the stretch, half of the staff working on me try to upsell me by telling me I really need a massage. Then they ask for tips after. Do you tip your physical therapist or chiropractor? No. But you do tip a massage therapist. No idea what a reasonable tip range is but I've tipped anywhere between $5-$20 depending on the length of the session and how much cash I have on hand. I find the whole thing strange since it's a monthly membership (and yes I did end up tipping the guy who gave me a knot in my upper back. Why do I do this?) I went regularly for three months and, since I am already pretty mobile/flexible, didn't find my flexibility improved after all the sessions, so ended up canceling my membership. The facility is clean and easily accessible. They have a bathroom for clients to use and two massage chairs that are sometimes available while you wait for your session to start. Massage chairs are the best part of the studio, so get there a few minutes early to utilize them. Lots of street parking and a tiny parking lot in the back. Membership is moderately easy to cancel. You have to email the studio and give them 30 days notice when you want to cancel. I had to follow up before getting confirmation but wasn't hassled at the end. read more

Do NOT ever sign up for membership! This pattern of negligence and continued billing despite our efforts to cancel is frustrating. I'm moving soon so I tried to freeze the membership in March. There has been so much frustration regarding the ongoing charges to our account, and they said it's becus we didn't say cancel but freeze so after multiple clear and email attempts to 'cancel' our membership, they still charged us today! This back-and-forth over wording ("freeze" vs. "cancel") is unacceptable. We followed up again in April, speaking directly with the receptionist in person. Before we left the facility, we were told that the manager would enter the cancellation code in the system right there to stop further charges. Despite this, we were charged for $418 again today ! Policy says 31 days notice but never confirmed to resume it after we first froze it. You still want to sign up??? read more

The quality of the flexologists are inconsistent. I have used about a dozen of them, and only liked two of them (neither work at this studio any more). Be careful signing up for a membership as the cancellation policies are punitive. You end up paying for a number of sessions that you can't use if your flexologist is no longer at the studio. Further, unused sessions from one month do not carry over to the next. Unfortunately, their policies are not customer friendly. Buyer beware. read more

I let them know about 20 days before the renewal and I still got charged as I needed it to be 31 days. Yes, I understand that it's in accordance to state law but some leniency would have been nice. She really pays attention to your breath to help you feel grounded. She is warm, personable, and has a good sense of humor. First, i do love the reps. The biggest problem is their billing system. You have to pay up front, say for a 30 day package. The problem is that you are blocked from scheduling out your sessions! So if you pay on the first, you cannot schedule out all of your sessions past their billing date! So if you go say, once a week, you can only book sessions for 3 weeks, then you are blocked! Even if you go twice a week, same thing! Plus they will bill you for the next month even though you cannot use all your paid for sessions! So you cannot book your fourth week if the dates fall past 30 days period. Sonic your last Then you get the "its disclosed in the agreement." Problem is, they do not give you any paperforms so you are at their mercy to schedule your remaining sessions ONLY IF you renew! So yea, reps are good but cannot use them for any 30 day cycle, which you paid for. read more
