Sometimes it's hotter inside that it is outside and there is only one fan near the treadmills, and I can barely feel it even when I'm directly under it. There has been a lot of unneeded renovations in the past couple of years, and it has been really inconvenient. I don't care if the gym looks like the Taj Mahal, I just want a functioning bathroom and workout equipment and there have been times there have been neither because of construction. This summer I was hoping to get back in shape but every time I went, they have been closed for one reason or another. The latest excuse is they were replacing the workout equipment, which I do admit they desperately need, especially for the treadmills. I was looking forward to trying out the new equipment, but surprise, surprise, I went today, and it was closed again! The new reason is infuriating--they're not 24/7 anymore! This location is really out of the way for me but being able to go anytime I wanted made it worth it. I usually work out later at night, so I guess I have to find a new gym now. I also don't know what the actual hours are now because the hours on yelp and the hours on the Planet Fitness website are completely different. According to Yelp they are 24 hours Monday through Thursday, but Planet Fitness says they closed at 12 am Monday through Thursday. And according to this website, they're going to be returning to 24/7 in September when the Planet Fitness website says nothing about that. I'm really getting sick of this guessing game, and I plan on joining a new gym soon.

In that time along with some strength training and diet changes I managed to go from a size 2XL to a Small. Reducing my overall weight by 50 pounds and my biological age by 7 years. This place really helps you establish a routine and holds you accountable. If you're not showing up to appointments, there are consequences! When I don't workout on Monday, I actually miss it and I feel off. I'm so grateful to all the women (both staff and members) for making this a friendly, non-intimidating gym atmosphere. That worked out much better than I imagined it would. She barely missed a beat between poses while she tended to the baby's needs and then back to mine. If I hadn't been in so much pain going in, I might not have gone for it and would have missed out on a great massage. If you've never had Thai massage, it can most easily be described as passive yoga, but that doesn't really do it justice. Robin's technique and delivery was great, she is very personable, and she wants to make sure your comfortable, yet still getting the full benefit of the treatment. Her prices are VERY reasonable, especially the introductory rate. I just wish her regular sessions offered were longer, but then again, Thai massage takes a lot of physical effort. I'm not into a lot of the traditional eastern healing and Robin didn't make me feel like I had to learn a whole new language or accept a whole new culture just to enjoy my massage. I also took in a yoga class that same evening and the class was small and intimate. It was, as advertised, a beginning yoga class, but I was able to get what I needed from it, as it was geared to novices (from a pose description POV) yet allowed for plenty of stretching and challenge where I needed it. I've only been coming here for a few weeks at this point, but as a complete beginner I couldn't be having a better time. The website advertises "no egos" which is on point. The moment I walked through the door for the first time, one of the students comes over to say hi and introduce himself because he hasn't seen me before. Everyone I've worked with so far has been really cool and the more experienced guys will take things slow and easy and even let me pull off moves on them so I can get the feel for how it's supposed to work. Don't get me wrong, every class is a challenge both physically and mentally - but it's the kind of environment where you feel comfortable really pushing yourself. The great culture starts at the top with Owner/Professor Danny Morera and Co-Owner (slash Danny's wife) Angela. Just great people - knowledgeable, welcoming, helpful, friendly, and fun. There's always a lot of smiles and laughs, but when it's instruction time, they're appropriately serious and focused on making sure people learn the techniques safely and properly. If you're interested in learning jiu-jitsu, the advice I got from some experienced friends was to opt for a school led by an IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) certified black belt, and registered with the IBJJF (you can look people and schools up on their website). There are a lot of places that would be happy to teach you "jiu-jitsu", but if you're going to put in the time and spend the money you probably want to do it right.
