Worst experience ever! Very rude, very rushed. I made a mistake about the due date of my cat's rabies vaccination. I had read only the top part of the invoice for the last time we were in and didn't read it all the way down. My bad! Anyway the gal tried to get my cat out of the carrier, tipping it this way, that way stressing her out even more. She had already pooed on the towel in her carrier and it was getting spread all over in the carrier, on her. The way we were both treated, never again! I could swear that she was sedated by the way she behaved on the way home and after we returned home. I was also reminded to be sure to get the gabapentin ahead the next time. Alright, so picture this: You walk into a veterinarian clinic and the first thing you notice is the less-than-welcoming smell hitting you like a wave -- a mix of disinfectant and something you can't quite place but definitely don't want to. The waiting room is crowded, chaotic with anxious pets and their equally stressed owners. The receptionist is nowhere to be seen, and when she does appear, she's frazzled and very rude. When you finally get to see the vet, they seem rushed, barely giving you time to explain what's wrong before they're suggesting tests and treatments without much explanation. The doctor strohbehn seems like the only professional part to this place. After a quick and somewhat dismissive check-up, you're handed a bill that makes your eyes water, and you leave feeling like just another number rather than a valued client. It's the kind of place you'd tell your friends to avoid if they care about their pet's well-being and want a vet who's as compassionate as they are competent. read more

Surgery for one cat ended up not working, health went downhill after They also suggested we "put him to sleep" for another cat of ours when he just needed steroids & antibiotics (suggested by owners). Front desk customer service is a joke. treated poorly. after years of using this vet I was over the attitude. and the smell. I will never forget the stench. I went there out of habit. found a new local vet. front desk staff are great at their job. unlike Strohbehns. and I was treated decent. the attitudes of strohbehns front staff is not acceptable in a customer service situation. rude. there are much better choices I've found in CB and they don't smell. read more

Strobehn comes highly recommended in the Doberman community throughout NE and IA. I have heard many great things. Unfortunately the RECEPTIONIST/OFFICE MANAGER - EXTREMELY RUDE - AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS WAY ACCORDING TO THE 9 1 STAR GOOGLE REVIEWS MADE ABOUT THE RECEPTION SPECIFICALLY. I called in to discuss pricing for my expecting mother, and her liter of puppies who are due to arrive in May. I needed information on exams/vaccinations/docking and cropping which I am certain would be a decent profit for the clinic. I was met with a complete lack of customer care from the first words she spoke. She was very rude, would not listen to me, talking over me, condescending me by calling me "love" and "honey" and "sweetie". I asked on several occasions to speak to someone else, and she repetedly told me that I could not. She is the end all be all between customer/patient and doctor. Its a complete shame that a person like this is running the show. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about Strohbehn and his work and was excited to bring both my dogs, and their puppies in to be cared for. If there is anyone other than this person who is gate keeping available that sees this review and could contact me I would greatly appreciate. I would still like to work with the Strobehn practice but under no circumstance will I be doing any communication with this person who refused to provide her name. She is completely unprofessional and giving this clinic a bad reputation as you can see from the number of 1 star reviews provided below pertaining to her behavior specifically. When people take their pets to the vet they want to feel welcome and comfortable knowing that they are in good care. We took our dogs here for years and had great service with Dr. Jill. I don't know who took over, but we were treated horribly by the new staff. They were more interested in looking at their IPads than telling us what was going on with our dog. Very condescending and rude. read more

It's a very cheap vet and the vets really care about your animals. These vets really do care about the animals that are brought in. The prices are awesome as well. I've been coming here for years and absolutely love it! It's a family-run business and the three vets are are great to work with. I was going to a different place in Council Bluffs for a couple years prior, until I learned their prices were a lot cheaper at Strohbehn. I've never left with a ridiculous vet bill. I feel like I am always in good hands, and that they're not pushing me into anything unnecessary.We've housed our dogs here and felt comfortable doing so. Both my cats and dogs have had operations here that went smoothly as well. Our ferret, Walter, became very sick with pancreatic cancer. The vet, Emily gave us a really great course of action and kept in contact throughout the process. When he had to be put down, she made us feel very comfortable about the unfortunate circumstances. The facility itself is very old and could use some updates. The receptionist, who I think is the mother, sometimes can come across as rude, but she's overall a really nice lady. read more

A couple years ago, my cat was going through a bad spell where she kept pulling out her fur. Dr. Emily was great with her, which is hard to do, as my cat doesn't like anyone. Had been going to Strohbehn Vet clinic for years and years. Loved Dr Emily and Dr Jody and the office staff! However it has changed considerably. Never get to see Dr Jody anymore as he has VERY limited hours (only a couple a day) and the current vet seems quite disorganized, lacking in solid communication skills with us pet parents, she is slovenly and unkept. Not at all professional. The current office staff, seems "friendly" initially, but if you question anything at all, they get super snarky and develops an attitude with you, even go so far as making snarky comments to you. She needs to work on her people skills for sure! We miss Tim!! He never EVER behaved that way at all! The appointments are never on time anymore, not even remotely close, nor do they give you a courtesy call to let you know if they are significantly running behind on time. Now each and every time you end up having to wait outside in your car (understandable w/ covid), and wait and wait AND WAIT even longer yet. Even if all you are doing is waiting to pick up medication, or to see the vet tech for a "quick service" and not the Vet herself. This last two times was to pick up monthly meds that was phoned in a couple days in advance. Was supposed to be 2 of them and yet the "receptionist" disagreed and said records showed only one. She wanted to argue about it. I finally got upset enough to just leave. Called back the next day and insisted they talk with the Vet and somehow miraculously they did see where there were supposed to be 2 meds after all, and I had to go back yet again, and wait yet AGAIN to pick up the med I should have been given the day before. She needs to work on her people/customer service skills and actually be more genuine about it. Since we never get to see Dr Jody anymore, we are not even sure if he is acutely aware of how his office is now being ran? The office needs a complete over haul of staffing. We and our friends who have also been going here for years, are now seeking other options. read more

I have been taking my animals here for approximately 13 years. I don't know if it has to do with Omaha vs. Council Bluffs, but the prices are VERY low here, especially considering how much time, energy and compassion is given by the vets at each appointment. I always felt heard when expressing my concerns and had my questions answered. The care for the animals is second to none. That said, the waiting room is cramped and more than a little chaotic. Plan accordingly for a bit of a wait. And yes, one of the front desk staff is a little old lady who was the wife of the ORIGINAL Dr. Strohbehn and mother to 2 of the practicing veterinarians there. She is not quite up to the job of multitasking in a hectic and busy workplace... but she's their MOM. I get it. She's not going anywhere. I need to emphasize, though I am not usually a patient or forgiving customer, THIS PLACE IS WORTH IT. I've been going back for years despite the uncomfortable wait and now my travel time is 45-50 minutes one way, all because they do amazing work that those of us on a budget can afford. read more

My favorite small town vet! Each time I've stopped in during the past 5 years, they are extremely busy and do their best to answer everyone's questions and phone calls. They are one of the most affordable clinics in the area which keeps them crazy busy. I personally find it endearing that the appearance hasn't changed much since the family opened the practice in 1955. My dogs don't care about the appearance either, only that they get loved on from any human in their path. My dogs scream with excitement when we enter the parking lot, they love Dr. Whitehouse and the clinic's long time Vet Tech, Deb. Tim is always running between rooms, answering calls and helping guests in the lobby whenever I'm waiting my turn. We give them 2 dew claws up! We highly recommend Dr. Whitehouse for your vetting needs! She is very kind and caring when it comes to animals and takes time with her clients no matter how big or small the issue/concern is with your fur babies. read more

I lost a loved companion who had been seen by only this vet who treated him for the last 4 years and they failed him and broke my heart in doing so. I will never ever again use a vet who cannot monitor a pet nor who does not respond to after hours calls and shuffles you to the Emergency Vet Clinics in Omaha. I will drive a hour to a small town if necessary to find a vet who still takes responsibility for his patients and does not shuffle you out the door with little explanation and then you have to euthanize that pet in 2 days after being at this vet. No mention by them of exactly what was wrong, a bag full of meds, a bill of a couple hundred dollars and out the door he went from them. Two days later I had to put him to sleep so he would suffer no longer. He was being monitored every quarter by these people for the beginning stages of kidney failure, I gladly spent the money to run tests to monitor this, I was proactive in his care. Did he die of kidney failure? No, he died of heart failure which this vet never diagnosed him with nor advised me of, nor treated him for until the last time they saw him, two days before being euthanized. No mention was ever made regarding heart failure by this vet hospital at any point in time, ever. read more

Dr. Lee is amazing and really cares about the animals! Prices are decent, but for the work done they are amazing. They will do their best to help your animals and if it's something they can't do or are not sure that they can guarantee success they will send you to somewhere that can, and even do the x-rays there so it's a little cheaper then at the surgical center. My little dog broke his paw all the way across and had to have surgery to fully correct it, but i was informed that it can just be splinted however that will not heal fully and could cause more problems down the line. He is a small dog and they are not equipped to handle such small bones, they were open and honest about it and recommended a surgeon that could. They did everything they could at their location to save me money and did all post op visits there as well. Wonderful people and very caring. read more

I've used Strohbehn's over the past few years. No issues until this last year which did it for me. My dog become ill right before Christmas. I took her in, the woman said she was leaving town for the holidays as soon as the clinic closed. During our short visit she seemed like she just wanted to get us out of there, so she could leave. My dog had a fever, she never gave me anything for it. Never showed me how to give her the medicine. She said no point in drawing blood today, it may not go out and then would sit until Monday. (Which they came to pick up lab work as we were leaving.) She said if she's not better Monday, to bring her back in. I called Monday morning, no answer, left message. No return call. I called again Tuesday, no answer, left message. No return call until Wednesday. By then my dog had passed away. I blame them. i will never take another pet there, and I will let others know of my experience. read more
