This was my first time being at a strong facility. I usually go to RGH. But they couldn't do my MRI until August but I was in so much pain, and they had an opening at 6:45am. They called and texted several times to confirm. Probably because I was the first in the schedule for the day. I understood the assignment. But, did appreciate the reminders. I have some cognitive issues, due to my disability. I was 10 minutes early, I thought the doors would be locked, but they were not. I walked in, was greeted with a big smile. We had to square away some insurance issues. But it was quick. When I finished that, I was called straight back, changed, had MRI done. The technician who did it was very polite, respectful, and explained to me how he wanted me to move, and asked if he could move me himself. Consent to touch me is extremely important, and it needs to make sense. He nailed it. Kudos to him. I was in and out, faster than it took me to drive there. I highly recommend being first. You save so much of your day. Once they get behind, Yikes! The team was very caring and respectful. I felt I was in good care the whole time. I didn't take pics, because well, it's a place that does MRI's, it's phone off when you walk in. read more

If I had to report on the top 5 examples of the worst models for running a business in their industry, Strong Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department would be my #1 Pick. Here's why. My husband and I had the unfortunate need to visit Strong Memorial Hospital's emergency room yesterday evening sept 7, where we waited almost 4 hours before being put in an actual examination room The waiting area was extremely overcrowded, uncomfortable, and not even close to the hygienic standards one should expect in a leading HEALTH care facility. The front desk/registration staff, including a nurse, were dismissive and abrupt at best, and seemed unconcerned about my husband's increasing discomfort and pain as we waited 5 hours before being put in the first exam room. Even after being moved to the first room, the experience continued to be an oppressive "waiting" game--way too many people asking us the same questions that should have been or were actually covered during the initial registration, without any actual CARE being administered. When we were finally taken to what you call "The Tent" we were directed to a ridiculous cubicle with a lounge-like chair, and a curtain for "privacy". I seriously doubt that chair had been disinfected for our use and there were no linens or pillows or anything provided that would have made the environment more comfortable or more hygienic. We would have received better care at a hospital in the South Bronx. When my husband's condition had been addressed and we were finally discharged, it was almost 5 pm--more than 7 hours after our arrival. I realize emergency medicine is a stressful and demanding profession for hospital staff, but this is NOT the experience Strong or ANY hospital should be providing for their patients. It is frankly horrendous--unacceptable and unforgivable. The leadership team, including the CEO Kathy Parrinello should be embarrassed and ashamed of this department. URMC can do better--URMC must do better or will risk the total loss of credibility in the healthcare industry and the practice of serious medicine. Good hospital for mental health. Pleasantly surprised with the staff. The ER is horrific though.

Had both my babies at Strong. (2023 & 2025) Nurses were mostly kind and efficient. Some more than others. Both relatively positive experiences. The second birth better than the first in some ways. Epidural always seemed to have had a student doing mine for both births. I rejected students to be present during my delivery the second time around. (First time it was multiple of them and I wanted something more personable) epidural wore off with my first baby, and I tore mildly... later would complain about how they stitched me. Second epidural lasted the whole delivery. Barely felt a thing. Doctor said she wished all her births were that easy. My children's father complained of uncomfortable bedding for the person assisting mom and not having supplies readily available. Meals were always delivered on time. Pretty decent for hospital food. Social work helped a lot the second time with baby supplies and setting up an appointment for further help with baby supplies at Asbury House. Sometimes people who would randomly come in and out were unfriendly but I'd focus more-so on the friendly ones anyway. Thanks Nurse Andrea Rose & Katie - they were attending nurses for both of my sons which was such a delight to see full circle since my first birth. Entering the hospital can be confusing, our first time around I was wheeled up to triage. Second time around, experienced, I waddled myself up there. But the information desk is pretty obvious, there's always people around to help and point you to where you need to go, they may not always be friendly but as long as you are attended to. read more

Son broke his arm in a dirt bike accident racing today, we took him to strong to the pediatrics. 3 hours we were in and out. X rays, cast and all. The staff was absolutely amazing. Took my autistic son for blood work. Didn't tell me some of the laboratory requisition were expired. First phlebotomy missed resulting in autistic meltdown. Had to wait about 15 min to get him to the point they could try again. Only to find out the next day that they didn't draw all the blood work. Won't fill his meds until he has more blood work. I might be able to get him to go in April or May. Ridiculous that the system didn't tell the lab or doctor that the labs had expired. Never would have had it drawn. read more

In all my 47 years of living across America I have NEVER been inside of such a slow moving, decrepit, disgusting, claustrophobic loud, stuffy, full, horrible, loud, almost NON existent emergency department! This place is horrific. I don't know the class system here but this place is a MESS ! it's like they throw everyone's take in names in a bucket and decide who gets seen out the ED, a mess. People have been here for 4-9 hours just WAITING. How is that even remotely possible AT ALL, and once they call ya "back" THEY SEND YOU BACK TO THR WAITING ROOM. I'm with surprised the amount of sickly people in here we haven't had a code. Imagine if there's a virus? The filthy cheap Amazon air purifier they have in the "lobby" is benign at MOST. NURSES brush you off and tell you there's no wait time, people coming in and out of rooms with a name calling rate of 1 PER HOUR. Just atrocious, atrocious and unacceptable. Looked it up hospital has over 6 billion and is currently renovating a new ED, and if this is a representation of "medicine to the highest order" then absolutely NO high hopes for the new sector of the building at all regardless. You walk into a shack with a state of the art machine upstairs, what's the point if you never get to it. I shouldn't be ill and have to play HUNGER GAMES for my seat in the ED with Nancy next to me who's in for a sore leg and Bernie to my left with an unknown viral illness. A MESS. The staff was very friendly and that is the only reason for a 2. The process are broken, being move from one department to another with no follow through. Everything is delayed and by the time it actually happens the staff has changed. No accountability. Instead of spending money on high priced doctor's they need to higher some efficiency experts. A NP from Strong Hospital put in a peg tube for feeding for a family member on Jan 10th which lasted about 4 weeks - the tube was not put in correctly (it came out of the stomach). Mind you, the charges are for a doctors visit not a nurse practitioner's visit. As a result, we had to take the patient to emergency at Highland Hospital (also belongs to the UofR) to get the tube replaced. Highland put in the wrong tube once again - emergency room mess up. The very first time a doctor at the UofR had put in the tube which had lasted for about 20 months. It is very frustrating that we have to deal with the medical staff's incompetence - we have had to bear emergency room costs unnecessarily at the UofR. read more

I came from Florida and came here voluntarily for a visit for mental health evaluation after a tragic incident that I had, The room that that had me in was like a prison cell. They wrongfully identified me on my medical paperwork, all it was was a bunch of homeless drug addicts inside the hospital and mixed with the wrongful way that they identified me I have to say to all Rochester residents, beware of the system that is in place because you are all in danger in Rochester and with these people in control you will never be able to live the lives that you could. My relative has been hospitalized MANY times over the past 20 + years, often for months at a time. His care at Wilmot Cancer Center is extraordinary. We have seen every inch of this facility as he was a child when first diagnosed. I could go on and on about the pros and cons, from the ED to various trips to the ICU. What really annoyed me today.... is the constant inability of the parking garage to adequately enable a 30 day pass, for which we have paid for dozens. They NEVER and I mean NEVER can seem to facilitate a simple transaction. I visit everyday to bathe and care for my relative. What an inconvenience for both my husband and myself to drop in to the hospital garage office to rectify. Each of us have stopped in nearly every day for the past 10. That's if and when they are open. At this point after 22 years they should be giving complimentary passes. read more

An elderly family member was admitted for 5 days; the first 2 were in the Emergency Department and the remainder were on the 5-1400 trauma unit. Each day I was there, all but one, I asked for my number to be added to her chart as an approved contact and to please be notified when discharge planning was started. Multiple providers assured me each day, "it's not time for that yet". On the last day, I was unable to get an update in-person and called 4 times over a span of 3 hours before getting her nurse...who told me she was already shipping out to a facility we knew nothing about. The WORST communication I have ever had from a health care facility, and that includes Highland Hospital, Rochester General, and FF Thompson. If you have an elderly family member or friend at this hospital, plan on moving in and being present 24/7. SMH staff are not to be trusted and when they have an opportunity to ship out a confused patient, they seize that opportunity to do so without another thought. Incredibly irresponsible and immoral behavior from what is supposed to be the best hospital in this region. Avoid at all cost unless truly in need of life-saving measures, then arrange for a transfer to a facility who takes discharge planning seriously. read more

It's probably the best ER room in Rochester. But wait times are terrible. Their website says you'll be seen in 30 minutes. For us? Even after the dr had called ahead... 3 hours before we saw a nurse and had blood taken. Still waiting for anything beyond that... (and when we finally went in, there were twice as many people in the waiting room as when we started.). This is round two for this emergency room. There are many good people at this hospital but you had better hope you don't end up in ICU. Many hospitals let you have a friend or relative spend the night. A critical care patient should have an advocate and someone who knows them and their needs able to be by their side at all times. It's a pretty terrible policy for the patient. We were trying to wean my relative off the meds and they kept sedating them to make things easier for them at might. All they needed to have was one of us in their they trusted to keep them calm. Some of the nurses were very compassionate but the charge nurse was not. It was a horrible experience for my family. read more

I was very impressed with the adult surgical unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. My daughter had Ear surgery there and I was impressed with the crack teams that work there in the units lining up the patients in their rooms getting the doctors take the patients in for surgery the nurses were very astute intelligent very kind and patient in making sure that the written instructions were understood as we were going home. The unit moved quickly and on time and it was a very very well organized surgical unit. I recommend Strong Memorial Hospital outpatient adult surgery center for anyone that comes to Rochester. I have gone to other hospitals and I have come from other states like California and Utah and I had found the Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital to be one of the best I've ever witnessed. read more

U of R Strong is the largest medical monopoly, and it has gone down hill, of the biggest concern is this hospital idea of a miracle drug is tylenol, doctors are discouraged from using opioids, if you go for any elective surgery, ask if tylenol is the only pain medication you can get. My son had a short time to live from liver cancer a rare and fast growing, He said he was in pain, and when I asked what they gave him, they said tylenol, are they nuts denying cancer terminal patients with liver cancer,the nurse said he said he helped, as someone with medical experience at this hospital, a week after m, y son passed away, I was brought in bad shape the stress of being in a hospital that is not handicapp friendly, I had stopped eating and drinking I was stiff with inflamed muscles, they gave me the littlest possible pain med, and I was screaming in this weird kind of pain, shortly after, tylenol give me a break, it is time for Rochester to demand this Medical Monopoly stop these practices, having heard the severely sick and dying are giving the smallest about of pain meds, and who can forget having to deal with all the crazy rules meant to control patients of Covid, My son had autism, and sickest patient on the ICU that day, I was told I had to leave at 8pm covid rules, I asked why Covid comes at 8pm we both had the vaccines . she said doesn't matter those are the rules, really after telling her, that if he dies alone, because I couldn't visit him over these stupid covid rules and I knew they were stupid, for the most part, what happened to him in the short amount of time, in cancer center,I want to move out of Rochester,NY the healthcare here is dangerous. I can't say enough good about URMC/Strong and the fine people who work there. My wife has had several health emergencies and each time, URMC/Strong has taken care of them. She has been admitted quickly and her conditions have been treated with the utmost professionalism. In fact, they have literally saved her life. The people are the best. During this COVID-19 pandemic, they haven't been letting visitors in to see loved ones. However, they make sure to call and let us know about the patient's condition and have a social worker call and check to make sure loved ones are also being taken care of. I'm so grateful to everyone at URMC/Strong for all they do. I know that my loved ones and I are in good hands with URMC/Strong. read more

My mom has been in this hospital for almost 3 weeks. The facility is nice and the food is good from what she says. The cafeteria is another thing. It is really sub par and the prices don't reflect any poor quality. Now let's talk about the staff. The nurses station is fully staffed. When I say fully staffed, I mean fully staffed with people on their phones playing with snapchat, Facebook, etc. It looks so unprofessional it's a poor look for Strong Memorial. If I was the head administrator heads would roll. I watched one girl sit on her phone for over 4 hours. You're not getting quality care when they are nose deep in social media. The sad part is that no one has an option... Every neighborhood is stuck with strong or rgh... It's a sad day when you really don't have a choice even when you have insurance. So these little kids want to stop me from seeing from my family (not covid related) and send security for me. I literally asked to see my cousin and when they wouldn't oblige I asked for some in charge.. they just brought security.Mind you they didn't ask for an ID or vaccination card (I fucking have both).
