MY son went to Unity ED over weekend for severe back pain. Dr diagnosed problem as lumbosacral strain and prescribed muscle relaxers and no PT. Follow up with PCP today indicated problem is actually herniated disc. Makes sense because pain radiates down leg. ED did not even pick up on this and never did an x-ray. Should refuse to pay the bill since going to ED was waste of time and delayed getting proper diagnosis and treatment. read more

Good people but 6 hour wait time for possible sepsis diagnosis. I'm tired, aching and I have a fever. Why can't these people do better. The people are great but it's the management that is cutting corners. read more

My developmentally disabled family member was admitted to the ICU where he received AMAZING care from all of the staff. When given thanks for all of this care, the response from the doctors and nurses was: "We love our work here". The hospital is clean, has large private rooms, and NO parking garage--it's free. Keep up the good work Unity! read more

Incompetence in every area, especially the emergency dept. The word triage is obviously not in their vocabulary. Not one bit of organization in any area. Compassion and comfort is non-existent. Requiring someone to sit in a wheelchair for seven hours is outrageous, especially for someone who has spinal stenosis of which the desk was reminded several times. No ice packs offered or available. Filth on the floor. Ex.-a washcloth that had been walked on, run over by wheelchairs remained on the floor. Summoning people from the emergency room who had already been taken to an examination room 15 minutes previous. I could go on and on. We were appalled! read more

I've been to the Emergency Room a number of times and as inpatient a couple. My latest visit was yesterday that EMT took me there to the ER for evaluation. The staff, even when extremely busy always takes good care of the patients. Their professionalism and care shows in small details. Your questions are answered and the options to follow up as best course of action. In these trying times with a pandemic going on there are still other diseases and conditions to deal with, and every body deserves the best treatment. read more

Not sure this is the proper place to leave a review but wanted to share my experience. I was sent to the ER for additional testing from an urgent care facility. I was not feeling sick, but I was experiencing abdominal pain and the urgent care physician thought I needed a CT scan and additional lab work. When I arrived at the ER, the waiting room was packed with people. I should have left then! I checked in with the desk, went through the preliminary triage of taking a brief statement on my symptoms, my temperature and they did an EKG. No clue why they did an EKG. I was told to have a seat. As I waited, I heard one woman on the phone telling someone she had been waiting since 11:00 AM (It was 6:00 PM), another gentleman said he'd been waiting since 12:00 PM. Both were in wheelchairs. After waiting nearly two hours, an elderly gentleman was leaving the ER and said "good luck ma'm, I'm finally getting out of here, been here since 7 AM". As my condition was not critical and I didn't feel I was in immediate danger, I decided to leave and instead call my own doctor in the morning. I spoke with the admitting clerk and she said there was over 100 people ahead of me and the wait would be very long. So I left. My issue is not with the hospital staff. Considering the number of people waiting, they were doing the best they could. I would not say they were overly friendly, but in their position I wouldn't be either. My issue is with the bill the hospital has now presented to my insurance company...a total of $1448. For no treatment!! The bill includes $453 for an EKG I did not need and $995 for the emergency room. What room? I never saw a room other than the waiting room. Is that worthy of nearly $1000 charge? Now I have to work with my insurance company to "appeal" the bill, but apparently I have to wait until they pay it!!! The purpose of this review is to warn others.....if you walk into the ER and give them your name and get checked in, expect a huge bill no matter what happens after that...even if you leave. Obviously if you need care, you should be there but if you don't think it's truly an emergency perhaps consider urgent care or calling your own doctor first. read more

If I could give this hospital a zero, I would. My father WALKED into Emergency on November 21 after he fell and hit his head as a precaution. He DIED December 21. There is NO concept of health care at all! He had Parkinson's and they stopped giving him his required medications while in emergency. From there is was downhill. There was NEVER an attempt to get him back to where he was or better, only make him comfortable. He died from starvation and dehydration, nothing to do with his condition. This hospital is only interested in rotating beds as fast as possible. PLEASE, DO NOT have your loved ones go there if they are advanced in age. My father was only 77 and still worked out with weights, 5-days a week. read more

I have to say this is the worst hospital I have ever been in. The ER STAFF ARE RUDE, condescending and inattentive. One staff actually yells at the elderly patients. Ringing buzzers that are constant of patients being ignored. I've been here 24 hours now and still sit in the hall. I'm Getting treated but not very well. They've lost my tests etc. Some staff have their mask around their neck instead of ON THEIR FACE!!!!!!! I will never again step foot in here. I truly believe the others review. If you Die, they wouldn't know it for hours!!!!!!! read more

This emergency room is a disgrace! Elderly people on beds in the waiting area, some with broken bones, or needing stitches - waiting 10 hours and counting. No one to provide care because ED nurses are not available as they have been reassigned to other tasks. The sadest thing is the lack of compassion. read more

Unity Hospital's Apothecary (pharmacy) is a total rip off. I was told by my surgeon at Rochester colon and rectal surgeries that I needed to buy Impact nutritional drink and drink it 3 times a day for 5 days prior to surgery, which would be 15 bottles. Their pharmacy didn't have it, they have Ensure Surgery and I was told that it's better than the Impact drink and I would only have to drink 2 bottles vs the 3 of Impact per day. The problem is, they Do Not sell it individually, Us patients have to buy an entire case, 24 containers even though I only needed to buy 10 containers. I called my surgeon's office and let them know, Unity is ripping off your patients. The woman I spoke to, called Unity and asked them why they only sell it in case form, when their patients only need x-amount of the drink? Unity's pharmacy excuse, we don't have a lot of space to store it, so we only sell it by the case. Well, Rochester Colon and Rectal Surgeons will never send their patients to Unity's pharmacy ever again to buy that drink. I was told that they do about 10 surgeries a week at Unity, that equals $580 per week, or over $30,000 a year that Unity hospital just lost because their pharmacy is RIPPING off their patients. At least Rochester Colon and Rectal Surgeons agree with Me. Hit them where it hurts, right in the pocket book!!!! They will be sending their business/patients to Rochester General Hospital now, they sell that drink individually. read more

Excellent staff for a busy Emergency Room. I had a decent wait but ehhh our Health Care system is messed up. The ER was busy, people were complaining, and trying jump to higher priority. Overall the staff was great, I was impressed with their professionalism. read more
