This is my second visit to this hospital in two years, once with my mother and once with my father. Each of my parents came for outpatient surgery. The preop and postop staff are unprofessional. Their overly loud personal and sometimes inappropriate conversations that take place feet away from patients are uncalled for. They are not great communicators with patients and family. After waiting three hours with no one communicating with us, I went to ask a question and was rudely responded to. The gen/med floor is not well maintained and not acceptably clean. The suction collection device mounted on the wall when my father was placed in his room was dirty. It had green chunks in it. That,alone, leads me to question the hygienic nature of the entire hospital. I have worked in hospitals for 20 years. I understand how hospitals work. I know what minimum standards are. And as a human being, I know what customer service is. This hospital is seriously lacking in basic customer service skills. I give the ER 5 stars for excellent customer service, efficiency, communication, compassion and sanitary conditions. The PACU staff I would give 0 stars. read more

My wife was admitted to the emergency room, with a broken hip. a nurse tried to take her blood twice and failed, got up and left the room, leaving on the table, 2 used syringes, 2 vials with some blood in it, plus the gauze pads with blood on them. 2 hours later another nurse came in took her vitals wrote them on a sticky pad and left the room with the finger clip on my wife's finger and the blood pressure wrap on her arm. someone came in to take a knee Xray and dropped the plate on her knee, where she has the broken hip. Will never go to this Hospital again. the emergency room, is in a way an emergency in itself, with people not doing their job and not committed to the safety of their patients read more

I twisted my ankle Monday night April 20th. and went to the ER because I heard a crunch sound and thought I had broken some bones in my foot. First they took X Rays of my ankle and left and came back because they were supposed to X Ray my foot. After a few more pictures, I sat there for over two hours and a young ER Dr. came in and said he couldn't see any breaks but wasn't sure. Told me to come back the next day if my pain persists. Meanwhile my ankle and foot swelled up twice the size and turned black and blue. I don't know why he couldn't see any damage. Had to pay a co-pay and wasn't going back to pay another. Brought my fiance to Newark Wayne Hospital in Newark NY. Biggest mistake. First and foremost her RN had the worse bedside manor ever. Overly rough with her during the blood work and heprin lock. She also threatned me with security. I welcome that threat. I did nothing wrong. I think this hospital needs to review the RN staff in the ED at Newark Wayne Hospital. You ask me you come here your only coming to a butcher shop. read more

This starts on February 15 presidents' Day 2020. Got a piece of metal in my eye. Called the VA but the VA was closed on Presidents' Day VA aftercare told me to call the nearest Hospital for me unfortunately is Wayne county community Hospital in Newark. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon when I got there. Took only about 3040 minutes before they called me took me back to one of the rooms sat there for another 1015 minutes before Dr. KMan I knew I was in trouble when she pulled out her phone and use the flashlight on her phone to look at My eye. She told me yes I can see the piece of metal lodged in your eye let me see what I can do. So she went and got help and another nurse came in pulled out her phone turned on the flashlight shined it in my eye and the other which was a doctor proceeded to rub a Q-tip across my eye Two maybe three times. Then she said I can't get it it's lodged to deep in your eye. So I'm gonna send you home call VA first thing tomorrow morning and see how they wanna handle it. Call VA the next morning they don't have the equipment there so they sent me to an outside ophthalmologist took her about two minutes to get the piece of metal out of my eye thank God. Needless to say two weeks later I receive a bill from the emergency room at Newark Wayne community Hospital for the sum of $1146.32. They accomplished nothing and sent me home to the tune of $1146.32 that's right for doing nothing shining their phones in my eye was the best they could do. DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE OR THE LIFE OF A LOVED ON. UPDATE.........Well here we are April 6th and guess what. Someone from the hospital must have seen my review on here. Because a couple of days ago I got a revised bill they added $100.00 and labeled it Doctor's care. That must have been when with one hand she held her phone flashlight up to my eye and with the other hand drug a Cotton ball across my eye ball said I can't get it you'll have to call the VA tomorrow when they open. So you're telling me that the hospital has no optometrist on call or at the hospital it was only like 4 o'clock in the afternoon but instead of bothering one of their overpaid personnel they would rather send me home in pain with a piece of metal stuck in my eye I could've gone blind overnight. I'm sure you all know what it feels like to have something stuck in your eyeball and every time you blink it's extremely painful. No they did not give me anything for the pain. NOT A FUN NIGHT! Went to ER yesterday with a nosebleed and they inserted balloon. Went back last night having trouble breathing. Shoved balloon further up. Have not slept all night. Called ER this morning to see if anything else could be done. Spoke to nurse she put me on hold for 35 minutes. Hung up called back and was told right away nothing else can be done. Really. Could of been told that the first time. Have to wait till Tuesday to see ENT. Blood pressure was high when discharged. Did they care? NO. He also is a heart patient but that did not matter. People are right when they say it is just a band aide station. Our health care sticks. read more

Do not go here if you need emergency care. They will examine you for Covid but ignore an obviously fractured nose. I waited half an hour for a treatment room. I had to ask for an ice bag. Even the local vet can do that. read more

I truly don't understand why this hospital only has a two-star rating. I just spent four days there because of an infected animal bite. I have a compromised immune system and they took *excellent* care of me. I tested positive for COVID when I arrived and the only isolated room they had was in the ER so I got to hear a lot of interesting things, but that was in no way the hospital's fault and they did everything they could to accommodate what was ultimately a very awkward situation for all involved. Everyone was absolutely fantastic: nurses, doctors, technicians, support staff, they were all genuinely concerned about my health and routinely checked on how the infection was doing because neither they nor I wanted to end up with me having to stay there for a full 2-week course of IV antibiotics. My husband also ended up there two weeks ago after a fainting episode at our house, and they were fantastic then as well. I have no qualms about going back there if my hand gets worse again. read more

I delivered my baby here. The staff were great. I had a dedicated labor nurse while in labor. My oh was not the one on call, but the on who did my delivery was awesome. I waited to get the epidural and was able to walk around and use the hot water shower in my room to help deal with pain. After delivery we were moved into another room and stayed there until discharge. Food was good and the staff were all very friendly. They helped us learn so much during our stay. I would definitely recommend. read more

Some of the staff is quite nice, but several of the nurses (especially in the ER) are just horrid. One of them had an extremely rude tone after she barged in my room without warning, and the rest were far more interested in their phones or loud conversations than helping a single patient. No smiles (they just stare at you stone-faced then try to look busy without any offer of help), no updates despite it going long past the ETA of the results - nothing but them making it clear to you that you are wasting their time. Apparently these are the kind of nurses that go into the business solely for the money...and still they feel they are owed something. If you are not already there dying on their doorstep, go to a different ER. Disgusting human beings here read more
