I had a harrowing…read moreFriday night with a client in town and a flat tire at Hotel Zaza (nail embedded in the tire). I was able to get the tire inflated thanks to the valet crew so I could get home but desperate to get the tire fixed before I had to shuttle my client around all day and evening. I found Montrose Mobile Tire here and was so impressed by the number of 5-star reviews. Made an easy online appointment for early the next morning and Oscar showed up on time and had my tire permanently patched in 15 minutes. He was so professional and helpful and I was on my way on time to pick up my client. There was a second part to the story, however. The tire started going flat within a couple of days. Normally this would lead to a negative review but I reached out to Oscar and explained the situation. I was able to get an immediate appointment and he discovered that he had had 1-2 other incidents where the patch had still resulted in a leak on this particular tire and it also could have been a faulty patch. Either way, he triple checked my tire for any other causes for the leak and installed a new patch and tested it, leveled the air pressure in all my other tires and said to call him if there are any other issues with it. While it took two trips, I appreciated the quick response, the dedication to making things right and his willingness to address any issue if one occurred again with the tire.

Within 1 hour they managed to get me back on the road again, with almost no hassle and for less than $100 out of my pocket. As my car sat along the street, a mobile trailer came within 30 minutes of my call and they were able to access my tire situation extremely quickly. It was revealed that my stock tires were not regular ones that come on most cars and that due to the inner foam that the tires have, it would not be as simple as just pumping them up and patching them. The service felt genuine, if not a little rushed, but it was really interesting to watch them in action. They noted that they also sell tires if a total replacement is needed but in my case, it was a quick patch. They were very thorough in helping me understand the process, even going as far as to tell me what I can do in the future if I ever come across something like a nail through my foam-laced tires. (#1) They were also very good about helping me understand how to approach a tire problem at a tire store if I ever decided to go that route. The bottom line was that they were willing to work with my budget and offer me something affordable, quick, and ultimately, painless. Oscar was the man running the show, but was guiding Luis (?) while repairing another vehicle. The total came out to be $95 for my emergency and they were timely, communicative, and even provided an on-the-spot PDF in my email. It was an ideal transaction and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to utilize their services again. ____________ (#1) A special tar does the sealing trick. Is it that simple?

Wharton County Tire helped me tremendously when a rental car I was driving had tire issues while…read morefar from a nearby agency. When I picked up the car from the agency in Austin, one tire was down 7 pounds relative to the rest. The rental agent and I tried looking for a nail, but couldn't find one. That was a bad omen, but I agreed to try airing it up. The tire held pressure for several hours, so I proceeded with my trip. By the second afternoon, after driving some rocky county roads, the tire had lost another 7 pounds. After airing up again and taking a 30 mile trip, the tire had lost 9 pounds. By the next morning, the tire was almost on the rim. Roadside assistance was little help other than to direct me to the nearest corporate Firestone store or the nearest rental agency to exchange the car. Trouble was, those locations were 30 miles or more away. I decided to check with these folks on recommendations of mutual friends, at least to get a determination if the tire was safe. A patch would have been under $17, totally worth my time=money equation not to have to spend an hour on the road, not to mention the safety aspect. Unfortunately, it had an unrepairable nail puncture in the sidewall groove and had to be replaced. Because this location was a Firestore-authorized retailer and not a corporate location, I couldn't work a deal with Hertz Roadside Assistance other than to have me pay $132 for a new tire and trust the local agency to reimburse me upon return. But, for $5, these kind folks did make the diagnosis, put on the spare, and aired it up. That was a bargain considering I didn't have to get out the jack and get sweaty and dirty. There aren't many options in this small town, other than WalMart and Strouhal's in nearby Hungerford, so I guess they have to treat people right. The entire staff couldn't have been more helpful, pleasant, or honest. While I can't attest to the total tire buying and ownership experience with Wharton County Tire, I can say they're down-home folks who really know how to help a stranger in need. Recommended.

When I finally looked at the tire, the hole was in the tread and not the wall like they told me. It was very aggravating and I will not be coming back.
