We both live in Flushing near Main St., so NYISC was a perfect place for us to travel to. The club inside was spacious and clean. Some of the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a thorough and in-depth description of all the membership services and fees for ping pong games/coaching. The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. If you come on a weeknight like us or a weekend, there will always be staff to help you and fellow players/students to meet/interact with :) One person saw my extreme lack of ping-pong skills and kindly helped me out a bit the first time I came to NYISC -___- lols I will definitely be returning

Took a weekday afternoon tour recently…read more The front desk lady welcomed me cordially. To which I then asked if it would be possible to tour the gym. Within moments a young gentleman came to assist. During the tour I witnessed clean areas, with what I'd say were diehard gym members maintaining their fitness goals by either pumping iron, running on the treadmills, stretching in the group fitness room or swimming laps in the lap pool. Quite motivating. The young gentleman who gave me the tour walked me up, down several stairs and throughout all accessible areas of the gym. He was thorough and answered all of my questions without being pushy. The Pool area looked really appealing and the Ladies Locker room looked neat and well kept. The one thing lacking for me was a squash/racquetball court. I know this is not a popular take for all, but I think indoor courts could have been considered in the plans as the Waters Place area is a sprawling piece of land which could've easily accommodated at least two courts in the build. Another plus in having indoor courts is the accessibility during the colder months. Also at this stage, a racquetball court could have been converted into at least one Pickleball Court...definitely a missed opportunity. In my opinion, Owners/Contractors fail to realize that Bronxites are avid racquet sports players too. Imagine getting a great indoor court workout, and then an option to take a few laps in the pool, conveniently located within your area instead of having to trek across the bridge to another LA Fitness that has this amenity. When joining a gym you'd want these conveniences factored in to encourage you to visit as often as possible. Unsure of their membership fees, but at a glance a nice looking gym. Outdoor parking was available during the time I visited. And an indoor garage is also available. 3.5 Stars

I was a guest of a member during the 18-inch snow storm, so I wore my $500 dollar suede Danner lights (Made in the USA) to manage the snow. Upon entry, I was informed by the staff that, due to the suede being too light, it looked too much like Timberland boots, which are banned. I was professionally whisked to a backroom, where I was offered to wear black loafers 3 sizes too large if I wanted to make my appointment. I spent the rest of my time skipping through the venue in order to not trip over myself, wearing massively oversized shoes. I would have been okay with this footwear restriction if it was universally enforced, but there were plenty of people in the club wearing duck boots, metal hook leather hiking boots, and even the same type of boots of a slightly darker shade. Apparently, the shoe shade restriction was not something members are aware about (the no sneakers restriction is well known). I have previously been a guest here with positive experiences. However, today I was put in an illogically unsafe experience, forced to wear loaner shoes 3 sizes too large, because $500 lighter suede boots are deemed less classy than duck boots for being too"Timberland like" during a snow storm.

My home gym is uptown, and I've come to the conclusion that the further uptown you go, the more the quality of the facilities seems to decline. It's disappointing. The gym is far too crowded to maintain any real consistency in a workout plan--especially between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. I understand peak hours, but the level of crowding lately makes me seriously question whether the facility is even adhering to capacity limits. I often walk in with a focused plan to work a specific muscle group, only to be forced to improvise with whatever machine is free. I've left earlier than planned out of sheer discouragement. During the week of 4/21/25, I had to wait 15 minutes before a locker became available. For clarity, every single locker was in use. That's unacceptable. The locker room itself is cramped and awkward--we're essentially fighting for space on the only two benches and the two wall-mounted mirror shelves. If I wanted to take it further, I could honestly say it feels insulting. The machines also tell a story. The adjustment levers are stiff--understandable, considering the apparent overuse. Several machines clearly need maintenance, if not complete replacement or upgrades. Yes, NYSC does offer access to other locations during emergencies like construction or water outages, but here's a suggestion: consider giving members access to the two nearest alternate locations if the membership count at their home gym exceeds a certain threshold. Sure, it's unlikely every member shows up at once--but it's not impossible, and it's certainly something worth planning for.

Almost 3 years later (because it is the only gym in our area) I decided to give it another chance, the signs were smaller and I tried to ignore them, so that my kids would have a place to swim in the winter, but the Israel flag in EVERY room and the constant propaganda everywhere made it impossible. Their mission statement of "We create a space of belonging, where everyone feels respected and appreciated for who they are." Is a lie. This statement does not include, Palestinians or anyone who supports equal rights and liberation. Israel is currently the leading cause of childhood mortality in the world.

The pool for lap or recreational swim, the gym and classes for working out, the after school programs, Camp Twelve Trails, music lessons, theatre, other youth and senior programs, and so much more.
