Stuart Benjamin & Co. is 5 stars! I can't say enough about the service I received from Jeff and Stuart. It all started with my wedding ring of 36 years (37 if you count the year of engagement) in December. I wanted to re-work the ring to add a larger center diamond and change the side diamonds to blue sapphires. Jeff really to the time to look at my ring and understand my goals for it. He honestly told me that it wouldn't be the same ring when I was done and it was beautiful and balanced as it was. I opted to have it re-sized (I hadn't worn it for six months), change the side stones to sapphires and some refurbishment. This entailed separating the three rings, sizing independently and re-joining. Stuart, Jeff and I all agreed on the size. When I came to pick it up, it was the size agreed upon but my hands must have been cold that day...and I had been holiday eating (salt and wine) and it was too small. Stuart's first words were "we're going to make this right". He sent me home with a sizing ring of the new proposed size to wear for the weekend just to be sure. While I was there, I started talking with Jeff about a custom ring I had seen. He then showed me a ring he had designed with many of the elements I was looking for. That became the basis of my ring and we took it from there. I took some diamonds I had special attachment to, added a few colored stones and a nice center stone. They detailed the price of each component of the ring and I thought it was very reasonably priced. It was delivered on the date promised and is beautiful! I had put off for decades having some work done. Receiving my Mother's vintage engagement ring setting and her wanting to see it set with my birthstone motivated me to get it done quickly before she passed. Being vintage and needing repair I was looking for a reputable company with experience. Stuart Benjamin was exactly the place. They repaired my Mother's ring beautifully and even found me the tourmaline I required, mined locally here in San Diego. It was the perfect size and color. The ring turned out beautifully and my Mother was so pleased to see it. I then had them rework an opal pendant I had, adding a bail with a Pariba Tourmaline I had purchased decades ago. I swear it is from heaven cuz every time I gaze into it, I hear angels singing. Yeah, I'm getting shallow in my old age, so what?? They are also designing me a new necklace from an older ring. I can't wait for it to be completed. I have done all types of jewelry repairs with these guys, ring sizing, stone setting, turning an old ring in to a new necklace, and custom design work. Every time I walk out of the place my jewels are clean, the stones are double checked. I have sent my friends here, my salsa instructor, and my in laws. I have gotten mostly rings from them. They have a bench jeweler on staff so they don't have to send it out or wait for a contracting jeweler to do the repairs. I like getting my jewelry quick! I love the fact that they give me email updates on the progress of my jewelry repair. Perfect for Type A personalities. Beware, ask their opinion and they are blunt. Sometimes brutally blunt, which can be hilarious. I don't trust the sugary sweet salesman tactic. Just give me what I want and make sure that I don't get ripped off by paying too much. I was at Hazard Center to buy some stuff for my kids at the Learning Store. I didn't know about Stuart Benjamin & Co., but I remembered that my wife had a couple of bracelets in need of repair, so I wandered in to ask if they do repairs, and what the price ranges are. The employee at Stuart Benjamin was very friendly, and had a helpful chart that showed specific price ranges for specific types of repairs. I quickly discovered that the repairs I wanted done could be done for a fair price, so I made a mental note to come back with the jewelry. The employee gave me a business card and he (along with the other employees) gave off a good, friendly, professional, trustworthy vibe. I came back a week or so later with jewelry for repair. All bracelets. -- One bracelet had a gemstone that had popped out of its setting. Stuart Benjamin & Co. was able to re-attach the gemstone, tighten the setting, and also check all the other gemstone settings and make sure they were also holding the gems in securely. -- Another bracelet had a broken golden post, one of 4 posts holding in the gemstone (which was still firmly in place). For a really reasonable cost, Stuart Benjamin was able to replace and match the gold post, so that it would be the same shape/size and gold karat as the rest of the bracelet. The repairs took 3 or 4 business days, and they called me when everything was ready. They had steam-cleaned the bracelets, so not only were they fixed, they also sparkled good as new. For no fee, Stuart Benjamin also steam-cleaned another piece of jewelry that did not need repairs -- and it looks more amazing than I've ever seen it. They also gave me helpful advice about a piece of jewelry I thought needed repair, but turned out to be OK, just in need of polishing. As I said, for very affordable prices, jewelry that was compromised by small flaws/problems was fixed and made good-as-new. The staff were all helpful, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They were also really nice to my kids, who enjoyed looking at the attractive jewelry in the display cases. I would go back to Stuart Benjamin again without question. I highly recommend them as the San Diego go-to place for affordable, quality repairs. (And I'm sure they're a good place to buy jewelry as well.) P.S. I was greeted by the whole team immediately upon entering and assisted by Jeff. He took his time to explain different grades of diamonds and pricing scales and he showed me a lot of really great examples of rings based off some information that I gave him. The owner who actually works in the store introduced himself to me. He was friendly and a great personality. My engagement ring formerly belonged to my grandmother, so it carries a lot of sentimental value for me. Once she was done, she immediately sent a copy of my appraisal to the insurance company, emailed a copy to me, and printed an additional copy for my records. When I picked up my ring, it looked better than I had ever seen it. Stuart Benjamin was even in the store and asked how I liked my ring repair. They do the ring repairs right in the store, unlike jewelry chains that send your pieces off to a place you will never see and to someone you will never meet. Since this experience, I have taken my ring back to get repaired and cleaned. The same, trustworthy people are always there, including Stuart.
