My fiance and I were so pleased with our custom wedding ring. I had originally just gone to seek rose cut diamonds which are an antique cut. almost never used anymore. Not only did they provide the rose cut, but Stuart brought out an extra special antique diamond he had been holding on to for a long time. It wasn't so much the brilliance that caught my eye, it was the flaws and character in the diamond which stood out to me. This diamond had cleaely been through a lot. What gave the diamond even more meaning to me was the what stuart shared about its history. Apparently it was from an old Hungarian earing which predates World War 1! This caught my attention more then anything else due to the fact that my fiance is of Hungarian ancestry. I brought my fiance a week later which was when we went ahead and had a custom designed band for the diamond. What was created was probably one of the most beautifully simple rings I've ever seen. The stone itself isn't even perfectly round and sits in the band so, naturally, it's wonderful!!! I had several pieces of jewelry to be repaired. I couldn't trust my precious jewels to just anybody. I needed a good jeweler, so I turned to yelp. I found Stuart Benjamin & Co. They were everything the previous reviewers had said. I had a watch link to be repaired (new screw), two gold chains and a delicate amethyst necklace to be repaired, and a diamond bracelet who needed clasp help to actually stay on my wrist! I dropped everything off the last week of November (2010) and was given a pick up date at the end of December. I really liked the pictures of my jewelry on the estimate sheet. The work was finished early and I already have all my pieces back (1st week of Dec.). EXCELLENT work. They even made me custom earrings (as we discussed at drop-off) to match my bracelet with the links they took out to fix the problem. 3 necklaces repaired, one custom screw made for my watch link, bracelet resized & clasp fixed and new custom earrings......all for under $500. What great personal customer service! I brought in a Techno Marine watch with a faded (and ugly) watch band that I wanted replaced. After balking at being informed that an official replacement watchband would cost me $100, Mr Benjamin suggested I leave the watch with him and he would see what he could do. It took a bit of time, and I have no idea how he managed it, but I now have a new white watchband on my beautiful watch at no charge. I know he spent time and energy making that happen, in addition to the research he did for me on resurrecting my poor abused Seiko. Still he insisted with a smile that there was no charge. But the thing that took me over the top was when he heard my 5-year-old daughter wishing she could have a ring with a pink stone, he came to a stopping point with the other piece of jewelry I brought in for repair, went to a treasure chest of sorts, and called her over. He gave her a silver plastic ring with a large pink "stone" surrounded by little "diamonds". She went from, "Mommy can't we go yet?" to "I'm like a princess!" in seconds. Bottom line: if you are looking for a jeweler who truly cares about his customers (big and small), who has built a great team, and delivers superior quality products, look no further. This place was awesome! Two years ago, my boyfriend got me a pair of really nice earrings from Kay Jewelers for Christmas. This past month, one of the posts broke off, and I took it into Kay to get it repaired. They wanted $95 FOR ONE POST! On top of that, they said that if I paid $150, I would get them back "looking like new"! I'm sorry, but $95 is way over priced to weld on a thin post of silver to an earring, especially when the earrings only cost about $200 to begin with! After poking around yelp, I found Stuart Benjamin. My boyfriend and I went together and spoke with Jeff. He was very helpful and told me they could repair my earring and clean both for only $20. MUCH BETTER! Not only was my earring repaired, but he got everything taken care of right before the holidays and cleaned one of my rings free of charge! When I went to pick up my earrings, I was floored! I had forgotten just how much my earrings shined! Jeff wrapped up each earring individually and I was able to pay after the job was done. I had it resized at another establishment, and they did not do a good job. It had a divot, and was catching on clothing. So, I brought my ring in, and they told me they could fix it in a week.
