While I understand this was a promotional event, clients were not allowed to choose their artist, which already felt concerning. The artist I was assigned (CJ) did a very poor job on what should have been a simple treble clef ankle tattoo. The work is extremely light with barely any ink, and overall looks unfinished and unprofessional. After realizing how bad the tattoo turned out, I made multiple attempts to contact the shop by phone with no response. Since I don't live nearby, I eventually had to take time out of my spring break to go in person. When I spoke with the owner (Tank), he acknowledged the issue and told me to call back in 15 days so he could personally fix it. After waiting the full 15 days, I called as instructed. This time, the front desk employee (Luca) was dismissive and claimed he couldn't hear me. I was then told to text my request instead. I did that--multiple times--and still received no response. I continued calling as they asked, but again, no follow-up. What's most concerning is that when I mentioned the issue in person, they immediately knew which artist caused the problem, which makes me feel like this wasn't an isolated incident. I'm extremely frustrated by the lack of accountability and communication. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled--being ignored and not given the promised correction--is unacceptable. I would strongly caution others about booking promotional deals here. Make sure you know who is working on you and that they are experienced. This situation could have been handled much better, but unfortunately it was  not.

The piercing hole closed. He tried to force it in multiple times. There was a lot of blood. He lied and said there was a little. He barely cleaned the blood off my ear. I had to clean it off when I got home. I was in a lot of pain for several days. He also bruised the inside of my ear with the tool he used and now I have two large bumps on the inside and outside of my piercing.

His portfolio work is amazing, and I just knew I had to get my next tattoo done by him. He's pretty responsive on his Instagram, and was very clear on his pricing and rules. I sent him a photo of what I wanted and we went from there! A deposit is required (which is totally understandable), and he quoted me a price range. Payment was very easy, as he works with multiple payment options. His studio is located in an apartment unit, and let me just say - it is SO clean, like IMMACULATELY CLEAN! I was blown away how professional and clean his tattoo studio looked. We sat down and went over the sketches, along with sizing and placement. He answered ALL of my questions so politely and professionally. As we got started, his whole process was very detailed, as he was very adamant on being clean and making sure I was in good hands. During the process, he was so friendly, and his wife who joined us was just so sweet and friendly. I really had a good time talking to them, as it took my mind off the pain a bit. When I saw the finished product, I was just absolutely blown away - it was everything I wanted, and he executed it beautifully. He adjusted the design until it was exactly what I envisioned. Shelter Tattoo is has a great vibe--the studio is clean and comfortable. I have never had any concerns about cleanliness around any part of the tattoo process which I greatly appreciate. The shop itself is easy to find and parking is readily available. James is always on time--I've never had to wait at any of my appointments. I show up at the scheduled time and James is always ready a small fact that I really appreciate. Initially, I was a little anxious about knowing what to talk about while being tattooed/if it was going to be awkward, but James is super chill.
