This place is amazing, I got my nose pierced here few months ago and it was great, the guy that did it for me was Aaron and he was pretty patient with me, I had an amazing experience back then, I went back to change my stud to a hoop months after I got my piercing done and they changed it for free and ended up giving me the jewelry for free and made it from scratch just for it to fit my nose (some other guy changed my ring); I loved the experience so I decided to come here again to get my nipples pierced and the experience was even better, Aaron was extremely professional and patient, he made me feel comfortable and calm, he made my fear go away and did them super fast, I love it, he gave me amazing advice on how to take care of them, where to get my jewelry, etc. Great experience, now I know where to send my friends for all their piercings, loved it read more

They took my $100 deposit and I did not get my tattoo. The day I was suppose to get it , I was told at the time in store that artist has gone for Covid testing with no further update from store or the artist. I was in town for next few days before going away for few months . Now I am back so I contacted artist and store at multiple occasions but no response from either . I am also in retail business so I understand how to treat/ deal with customers. This way there is no way I could survive running my shop. Very disappointed indeed ... read more

DO NOT COME HERE! Horribly ran business, WAY OVERPRICED ( a 1in x 1in tattoo is $100 make it make sense), owner is rude and disrespectful & has no idea what he is doing, the bathroom is disgusting and the piercers and tattoo artist are all rude and disrespectful as well. I went to Texas Body Art for my first tattoo today. It was a terrific experience. Matt Bullion was very patient and walked me through the whole process during the consultation. I wanted a special memorial tattoo for my sister and his design captured it exactly. He is a terrific artist and I highly recommend him and Texas Body Art. Professional. Clean. Comfortable. 10/10 would recommend! Very laid back yet professional atmosphere. I've already gotten 2 tattoos with them and couldn't be more satisfied with their work. Price wise they are surprisingly affordable too. Joseph has been my artist 2x now. I will definitely be returning soon! Went in for a mid-sized piece and got an outrageous quote. Easily three times that of other studios. Also, had a flash tat done on their Friday the 13th special, and got charged $40 extra for body location (on my hand), and the artist left out details that were on the pre-designed flash. Unfortunate to see how this business has gone downhill in the past few years. I'll sadly never return. read more

I don't look like the stereotypical person with tattoos, but have been welcomed and treated well every time I've walked in the door at TBA on Jones road. I was defeated by the lack of inspiration these "artist" had. If you don't what a stock tattoo off the wall or come on with something to be traced don't bother to go here. I appreciate their adherence to CDC regulations as a Virologist. However, if you send a link and then immediately holler to call someone in from a car how can you be upset when that potential patrons don't comply? Finally, if you are that serious about face masks being worn appropriately you need to cover your nose too! If you want a typical tattoo then this is for you but don't forget your mask. read more

I came with my daughter to get her nose pierced and she's 16 years old so I had to come and she didn't have her birth certificate but she had her I.d on her and the receptionist was rude and making a scene, she was a girl who had pink hair and needs to be retrain in customer service, she was in the piercing part of Texas Body Art. read more

Tattoo turned out great! Even without an appointment, Jake was able to get me in! We went a few rounds with creative differences on what to ink - but in the end we finally saw eye-to-eye and I'm glad we did! Great artist - extremely talented. Will definitely use him for future work!! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I didn't really like having MY creativity challenged for something in the end I'M paying for. Not to discount the artist - because it's his work - but it's my body... Other than that - no complaints!! :-) read more

Just got my rook piercing from Aaron. Originally I just looked up this place a while back to get a small tattoo and then forgot about it, but earlier today I spontaneously decided to get a piercing and this was the closest place to home. I'm so glad I randomly decided to come here. Aaron was beyond awesome, even though I didn't say much (which is how I am before a tattoo or piercing) he still did his best to make sure I was at ease and okay. Out of all the piercings I've ever done, this one was the easiest for me because the process was quick, and simple while still being informative and helpful. He was friendly from the start, and that made me feel instantly comfortable. He didn't make me feel stupid or judged like some tattoo places will often make you feel, and I will definitely be coming back soon for my navel and tragus and all other future spontaneous trips. Travis did an amazing job giving me my first tattoo and made this 43 yr old "virgin skin" girl feel comfortable and was very patient with all my changing ideas. I went to several tattoo shops in the area to kind of get a feel for the options and while every one I went in to was clean and professional, Texas Body Art's staff went above and beyond the others in being friendly and welcoming. I spoke to Justin on our first visit, who took the time to sit down and talk about what I wanted to do even though they were in the middle of a shift change. Some of the other people we spoke to at other tattoo studios were pushy about changing the idea I had and adding other elements that I really didn't want. I could tell Justin had experience and he wasn't pushy with his suggestions. He helped me choose a better color profile for the tattoo and suggested adding grass as a base to root the tattoo, but his suggestions came off as actual advice from a pro not as a sales person trying to alter my idea beyond recognition. I made an appointment for the following week and expected to spend several hours in the chair as one of my previous tattoos which was a lot less ink and detail took around 2 hours. Justin didn't use a stencil. He drew the tattoo right on my skin and asked me for my input at several stages. I made suggestions of how I would like it changed and he modified it for me. When the drawing was done to my satisfaction he started doing the actual tattoo and I anticipated a lot of pain due to the tattoo being on my ankle. I was surprised that it was no more painful then any of my other tattoos and it only took him a total of just over an hour to draw, modify and then do the actual tattoo. I love my new tattoo and I will go back to Justin and Texas Body Art for my future tattoos. read more

I have gotten 4 tattoos here. Mikey Godwin is my artist. I will never go anywhere else. I trust Mikey. He gets to know me so that when we go over my designs/ideas he know what suggestions to make and what I'll like. He can do anything. He's not a ln artist who only does the style they like most. He does it all and does it well. The shop is clean and organized. They have quite a few chairs and host guest artists also. They have won a slew of awards in Houston for being as awesome as they are. And they deserve them all. I have referred more than 5 people here and each one has been extremely satisfied. read more

I've been tatted and pierced before and this is, by far, one of the best experiences I've ever had. They had me sign all of the required consent forms via iPad. At most places, they have you sign papers that have been copied so many times you can't truly read what you're signing. I was able to walk in and get my tat done but I would strongly advise calling ahead and scheduling an appointment. I am super pleased with the tat Tony did for me. I can't wait to go back for my next one. read more

I went to the piercing shop about a week ago completely desperate as my nose had gotten an irritation bump (because I put a cheap piece of metal in it). I can't remember his name, but the piercer was so patient with all of my concerns and gave me crystal clear instructions on how to treat it. His advice was superb and my nose has made such improvement. I will be back to change my nose ring! Love this place. read more

After experiencing the aftercare from my septum with another piercing, I'll definitely be back if I'm looking for any other piercings. Just be mindful of the limited parking--it is Westheimer after all!

I came in on my birthday for a nose piercing and had a great experience! The shop was lovely and had a great vibe about it so I decided to schedule a tattoo appt here to get a little MJ piece. Unfortunately, I didn't have that same amazing experience. During our email communication, I was told that the piece would only take an hour and that the artists hourly rate was $200. The tattoo only ended up taking 30 minutes but when I went to checkout, the artist rang me up for $250 on a design that wasn't modified at all from a web search I did. I'm all for paying for skills and years of service but I was really thrown off that the total was different than discussed previously. I brought that up and she changed it back to $200 but I thought that was a very weird thing to do. Overall, I'd return for piercings, if I wanted more, but I don't think I'd return for a tattoo.

If I didn't send a message first, I wouldn't hear anything. Every response required me to follow up, sometimes multiple times. My appointment was rescheduled over and over, and then canceled the day before after I had already rearranged my schedule around it. This became a pattern of poor communication and last-minute changes. Meanwhile, I was never sent my tattoo design or kept updated throughout the process. Clients shouldn't have to beg for basic communication or wonder if their appointment is actually happening. There may be talented artists out there, but professionalism and reliability matter just as much. Unfortunately, this experience had neither. After wasting weeks trying to make it work, I requested my deposit back and took my business elsewhere.

It's a private studio which is nice because I don't really a big fan of random people popping in while I'm being worked on. 5/5 In depth review of the whole process. Objective: Booking periods happen only so often. I submitted my application with two concept ideas. I received my email October 2nd telling me I was selected for the Feb/Mar cycle. I paid my booking deposit then gave them my availability, they worked with my availability and I was scheduled for March 15th. Once the appointment was confirmed I told them I'm willing to switch appointments if necessary to work around his other clients. My appointment date remained the same but my time was moved to 7am which was nice. Johnny reached out February 16 for a confirmation on the exact design (I kept going back and forth sending in different things) and March 8th I got a courtesy email for my upcoming session. I showed up to the studio and Johnny was finishing up the final design. We talked briefly on the different aspects of shading and line work but I told him that I trusted him because he's the artist and he knows what will probably look best for the final piece. The session was about 6 hours with 3 breaks. Snacks and beverages were provided. The studio itself is open with tall ceilings. It has couches and a long meeting table. The tattoo I got cover parts of my chest, my sternum, some ribs, and my upper abdomen. It was a painful tattoo Subjective: The booking process was really nice and communication from his assistant was nice. I think he got a new assistant sometime after my appointment was confirmed, nothing was wrong with his old assistant but his new one Melanie has a much more welcoming online persona. Her personality in person matches it too. Johnny comes off as a casual laid-back guy. He's nonchalant yet he's very interested in his clients. He gave me a sense of autonomy throughout the whole process. In hindsight I gave him very little to work with and while doing the final touches he was asking me what I liked specifically about the reference pictures. I sent him a couple of pictures of different designs by other artists and it was really nice to know he took them into consideration. I've been to an artist before where I brought in printed references and the artist glimpsed at it then pulled out the sketch he already had before I showed up. While I was being worked on the pain was too much for me to handle in the beginning, given the location and design it's expected to hurt. I asked if I could have a break after the main outline was done and Johnny agreed. I didn't feel any mental resistance from him. He wrapped up the area so I could go outside and get some fresh air. After that I didn't have to ask for breaks, Johnny stopped and gave me two more. I'm not sure how but Johnny knew when I was getting reaching my threshold. Given he's had years of experience I'm sure he's picked up a 6th sense on how to read people. After the main outline was done Johnny stopped and asked how I wanted the rest of the session to play out. I told him I'd prefer to do the top part of my tattoo because I knew the bold lines would hurt more and I personally like having the most painful part of a tattoo done first. Johnny is the first artist to give me that option. Johnny himself as a person is hella cool. During the whole session we didn't talk much which was nice because I just wanted to relax (i'm on spring break from nursing school and my life since august has been studying so I actually don't know how to talk to people anymore lmao). From our conversation Johnny comes off as someone who wants to know his clients. This isn't just another transaction for him. He asked me questions to get to know me but he never pushed me to share. We both shared stories and aspects of lives that were interesting. Melanie went out for a bit and offered to pick something up. Johnny asked if I wanted anything which was really nice and I asked for coffee and a sandwich. When she came back I offered to pay and Johnny told me that he'd pay for it ( johnny is just nice af). This is my opinion but getting a tattoo is only cool after you get it. When I'm getting work done I'm being vulnerable to the public. I'm not a fan of getting work done while random people walk by watching me trying to hold myself together. The whole process is just painful and it sucks. I like this studio because it's just him and his assistance. Overall I had a really great experience. It's only been 4 days but I wake up every morning still in awe at his work. Pros: Johnny is cool Melanie is nice final product is dope snacks privacy Cons: that shit hurted

I also went in for what should've been a simple trim, and way more length came off than I asked for (and I've spent years trying to grow out my hair). At the end of the day, I paid a lot of money and went through multiple appointments, and I still didn't get the color or the cut I asked for. Really disappointing for the price.

Ya know, I just started reading some of these crap reviews of this GREAT shop and I'm already sick of them. For a place that is a "house of art", let alone "body art" I think most rookie opinions are just that, rookie. It's like the art critic that could never draw a straight line so he decides to become a columnist on what great art is. My point is that this shop is an inspiration in terms of it's organization, professionalism, super cool history, current covid safety measures which include an electronic lock on the door to control random window shopper entry, all the artists certified, etc. And anyone that has tried lately to get a consult from a pro tattooer anywhere knows what a pain in the ass it can be to even hear back from them this month. But not here at Texas Body Art!! You can stop in, hit the QR code to get in que, and the next thing you know you're speaking with one of the best in the business who will take a break while deep into his/her work just to jawbone with you about your dream tattoo. What more can you ask?! And lastly on a very personal note, my man Stevo has hooked me up with some VERY special body art that not only meets but exceeds my expectations EVERY TIME. Think what you will, but to me it's just as important WHO is working on me; and that frankly spirtual connection that you can have if he's right, is at least as important as WHAT it is that artist is putting permanently on my body. I went in to TBA last week, they had always done my piercings and a few tats as well. Aaron was the piercer that was there. I explained my problem, I recklessly got pierced in El Paso with friends in August. The piercing had yet to heal. Was painful and to top it off I had ripped it with a comb. (It was on my face near my ear) Aaron was so super helpful! He removed my painful, and as it turns out wrongly pierced sub dermal- the shop I went to use an older type of piercing, a staple instead of a barbell, as Aaron explained to me how he would do it. He was gentle, and apologetic about the pain I would feel as he removed the piercing. It was trying to push out of my skin, and then the ripping I had done- although, he was so gentle the discomfort was very minimal! He was amazing and I offered to pay him for his time, advice and helpfulness, but he refused! So awesome! I am now pain free and more knowledgable on how to care for the healing, and any future piercings! I live in Austin, and still trust Texas Body Art over anyone else! I have three tattoos courtesy of TBA. I was there most recently in August 2013. An earlier review said they had "no customer service" and "do not listen." I found the opposite to be true. I made an appointment with Reagan about three weeks out. We then exchanged probably 30 emails and texts fine tuning the custom design he drew for me. I saw the art in advance. Showed up at my appointment and he was ready to roll. We discussed color. Then the needle was buzzing. Most important - the tattoo came out great. I've been here enough to know that the customers griping about "bad customer service" are the ones who want absurd things: an angel with a rebel flag robe playing a trombone with some music notes that morph into birds and the names of my nine children in Sanskrit - and oh yeah - all on my ear lobe. Them "not listening" is their way of trying to save you from a bad tattoo. Trust the artists. They know what translates well to skin. They don't want crap in their portfolio, and they don't want to see crap on you. I find the entire shop to be accommodating and professional. read more

I have been here twice, once to get my Tragus pierced and one with my nose. One was with my parents (I had just turned 16) and one was a few days ago as I was 18. I never had a problem doing it either time. But the reason I came back to this one for my nose was because I got the best possible customer service and best product by anyone I've ever seen! Aaron and Ben are most possible the best piercers around. I have had friends get theirs from other places and it just looks terrible or gets infected. But even when my Tragus fell out in my sleep and another time when I couldn't get it back in after cleaning it, I went and they put it in for free. Even once it started closing up and he basically repierced it for free. They tell you everything you need to know and help you with everything. Even give you free soap to help clean it. Wouldn't recommend anyone else. Plus their not crazy expensive. I paid 50 for my Tragus and 60 for my nose, but you get the actually earring of choice and the cleaner. I will always go for my piercings. Will probably go their for my tattoo, to! read more

My wife and I were both tattoo virgins, but the vibe inside the parlor didn't feel intimidating to us. Clean is the word I come up with first. The receptionist was sweet, and the artist we consulted with (Nate) was very understanding about what we wanted and where, and helped us articulate our ideas clearly. Nate was very patient with our questions and nerves on the day of. He had a quiet and understanding demeanor, and warned us of a few things such as placement and orientation of the pieces prior to even putting us in the chair. Once we were all in agreement, the process was quick and professional. To be honest, we were both skeptical of the prices offered up front, but you do get what you pay for and we walked away with 3 smaller pieces total (1 on me, 2 on her) that we're very happy with. Also, this shop is $CASH ONLY$ from deposit to day of the tattoo. Make sure you plan accordingly, as it's not their fault if you don't read the signs plastered all over saying as much. When we figure out our larger pieces we will be going back for sure! read more

I am a 74 yr old female - who- last Christmas got my first tattoo - I asked around to my tattooed friends and Texas Body Art was highly recommended- do nervously I went in. Am I ever glad! I wanted (and got) my deceased son's name tattooed on my forearm. I wanted on my wrist/thumb area but the artist explained my forearm would be much better. I didn't have a copy of my son's signature so he dili kept finding fonts until yes! thats it! Texas Body Art is the place to be! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful in all ways. The location is very clean. Hygiene is everything there! I had a forward helix piercing done and was very impressed with my experience. I was referred by a girl friend of mine who had her dermals done. She spoke the world of it too. I went and got a dope ass tattoo by Dale the Nail. The tattoo was great and the service was very welcoming and professional, but the new counter girl that is there is EXTREMELY RUDE! So much so, that I wanted to slap the little girl! She is getting an attitude with customers, I witnessed while I was there. I got my septum pierced by Aaron in December 2014. All I can say was he was amazing! Very informative and extremely friendly. I have had many piercings done at various places through out my life and I can say that Aaron was outstanding in his professionalism and friendliness. I went back after a month to switch out my jewelry and ended up meeting Ben since Aaron was not there. Same level of friendliness and professionalism. Just an overall great experience. This has long been my favorite tattoo and piercing shop in Houston. Ben Reel has been piercing me for years and I couldn't ask for a better piercer than him. He keeps me coming back to the shop. I went in on a whim, I am probably 20 years older then most their clients but wanted to get a simple ear piercing, like I had in high school. No one laughed, pointed, said "get a load of grandpa", or made fun in anyway. The place was very clean, the staff were kind, laughed at my jokes (always a plus) and very helpful. Stevo did a piece on my forearm and it is absolutely beautiful! This was my first tattoo, so I was petrified about to pain. But Stevo, addresses every concern I had, and told me the truth about where most of the pain would be. The first sketch I did not like the rose, so he redrew the rose, and stated I can draw another if you don't like this one either. The care, effort, and time he put into my piece meant a lot. Johnny Jackson not only did my tat but my wife's as well. When he did mine it was after he had already had a long day at an offsite show and yet he still met me at TBA to do mine late at night. He was of extremely helpful working with an original image and adding my required touches. I don't think I will ever let anyone but him add anymore ink to my skin. As a veteran, I'm use to being surrounded by folks who most likely have a tattoo or multiple…read moretattoos. And with that, you're likely to get a great recommendation to a local artist. Unfortunately being retired and in a new town and with friends who have virgin skin, I take hesitation just going into any tattoo shop. So, when my daughter decided to get her first tattoo I was excited yet apprehensive at first. After some research she settled with La Familia Tattoo Parlor and made an apt with Mystyk. Mystyk explained the paperwork, the process and even explained follow up care. Answered any questions my daughter had...which to a young adult is very minimal!! LOL Anyway, my daughter loved her first tattoo so much she went back and got a second one. I have to say Mystyk did a beautiful job and I'm considering to get another one here too! The shop is very clean, and they disinfect their areas after each customer. Every thing is kept nice and tidy. They even have mobile panel dividers for privacy...for your tattoos in private areas! I got a glimpse of another artist working on a sleeve and it was coming along beautifully. I think you just need to take the time and see which artist suits your personality and style you're looking for. Bottom line, do your homework. I give this place 5 stars for checking off all the marks for me and especially my daughter. Be sure you interview before you settle on something that's going on your body!

This last tattoo started off with just Krang, but he had a vision when he started on how it was going to end up 3 years later. It was a brutal spot, but I am unbelievably happy with the end results. I started with an idea and he made it so much cooler. Thank you Jose, I don't think you give yourself enough credit, but you're the man and you do phenomenal work!!!

I got my eyebrow done a few weeks ago, the lady that did it put the needle in and I did not flinch,…read moreyet she kept the needle inn my eyebrow and freaked out then she pulled the needle through before my jewelry was in and instead of putting another needle in she shoved the jewelry in and it dug along the side of the inside of my eyebrow. And on top of this she put in a 16 gauge which is the same size as a belly button. I went to a new place because either recently fell out and they were so mad I got cleaned and replaced for half the price "Hidden Gem" charged me.

He not only fixed that but also skin color matched a the leftovers of a tattoo that I have spent $2000 to have removed. He covered it up and it matches perfectly. I cant recommend this shop any higher than to say, you'll thank me later! You cant go wrong here! I will for sure do more buisness with them and Joseph. I am also recommending friends!

He went over everything with me and was very professional, friendly and kind! His shop is neat and clean (with a very cool floor in his artist room...made with pennies). Also, he was very helpful with the aftercare instructions. Thank you Joseph, for making my first time experience in getting my tattoos very pleasant and fun!! If I decide to do anymore...I'm for sure coming back to you!!!
