It was a full body work out in 50 mins and I think it was pretty fast paced but got in some burns. I think my preference would be slower paced work outs but the choreography was interesting and made sense for a full body session! The place is a little hard to find but thankfully I followed others who were in fitness clothes and made my way upstairs ok. The studio used was clean and I loved that all of our supplies were set out with a mat all ready to go. I do wish the classes orientation (the room itself) wasn't so narrow and long as it was hard to see the instructors movements around other people but she did her best to go on each side of the room for the exercises and did them all with us which was also nice. Can't speak on price since I found this place through class pass but I do think if you are looking for a hard, fast paced, heart rate up, and well rounded class this one was a good one

The vibes were great, the playlist was awesome, and the workout was even better! I do lots of barre and yoga, so I figured this would be in a similar vein, but I was so wrong. I was sore (in a good way!) in muscles I didn't know I had! Riley's teaching style was super approachable and she gave lots of options for modifications to accommodate any injuries or discomfort. Honestly, I liked my experience here so much that I'm thinking about getting ClassPass just to add The Cube into my regular rotation.

I was returning to working out following an injury, and during that first class Morgan was super accommodating and showed me how to do all of the movements properly, ensuring I was comfortable and getting a good workout. The first class was so fantastic, I decided to sign my mom up. Almost three months later, we have each lost 15 lbs, gotten a hell of a lot stronger, and gained confidence in the gym. I've switched over from the Bootcamp to the full CrossFit membership and though the barbells were intimidating, the coaches made the transition so easy. The community is incredible, every single one of the coaches are caring and knowledgeable, and this gym got my mother to go from never having worked out beyond walking to weightlifting. I ended up utilizing the outdoor spin classes at this location frequently, and cannot say enough good things about Chuck, the fitness instructor. As far as I know, there are a few other outdoor classes, but the spin classes are my jam. I love Chuck's energy, the music, and the fact that I get a super hard ride in once a week. I believe he teaches three classes per week, but the Sunday class is my favorite. So grateful that the YMCA has provided us with a safe way to get our fitness on. Thank you!

By far my favorite YMCA in Durham. While the American Tobacco Campus lacks a swimming pool, steam…read moreroom and sauna, it makes up for it in the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, cleanliness of the lockers and equipment and it's the least crowded Y I've been to in the area. I most often visit the gym between 9:30-12:00pm, and there is never more then a handful of clients during those hours at this Y. Mostly professionals that work at Tobacco Campus, people are quiet and stick to themselves. Also, note that this location is also only open on weekdays, conducive to professionals! I've never had a Y attendant be more attentive to me, one of the staff asked me if I was doing okay during my workout routine and offered helpful suggestions. Their quality of equipment is on par with the Lakewood facilities but is more updated with the NikeFit application on the treadmills and built in fans (you also have a beautiful waterfall view!). They also have a private bike room (not a glass room like the downtown Y) and a couple private workout classrooms for classes. My only qualms about this Y are that parking can be rough to find and there's a two hour limit on the street and in the deck. In addition, the water pressure in the woman's bathroom is like a deep-tissue massage. It's not bad, but startled me at first and I could see people having an issue with that. Since this location is only open during weekdays and not late, it's definitely more geared towards the local work crowd. Last, the lockers in the woman's room are much smaller then your typical YMCA lockers, so bring a small gym back or just try to shove it all in. I switch off my YMCA's since I work, live and socialize near three different locations, but I was very happy to discover this mostly hidden branch. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for a quiet atmosphere and a place where there will always be open equipment. Also, they've got coffee for you on your way out, how much better can it get?! Elite Note: If you feel like running outdoors, the ATT starts on the other side of the highway and goes for 22 miles!

The Wilson Rec Center is pretty central to campus and has student recreational activities. The pool is in the rear and is the only thing I saw. You can enter in front or rear for the aquatic complex. The building itself looks like "Duke". The brownstones are spectacular. Parking is reserved pretty much all around the building I found the visitors lot which is about a 3/4 mile walk. The area was clean and impeccably maintained. The aquatic complex is not as old as the building dating to possibly turn of the century. However it's no spring chicken either. Possibly built in the late 60's, not ruling out 70's. The pool and deck are maintained. Only faculty, staff and the swim and dive are permitted to use outside of special permission. My son enjoyed the pool. Although not a new pool it has underwent a couple of renovation projects over the decades. The most recent was around 11 years ago. The 25 yard pool with diving well is a nice set up for competition. Duke competes in the ACC Conference. The complex offers a compact spectator area on one side. Most reading this review will never get the opportunity to use the pool and probably never even see it. My son absolutely loved his time on campus and who knows could be a Blue Devil.

The programming generally follows classic CF programming - lift, skill, metcon - though we've gone through various cycles to emphasize certain skills or muscle groups (powerlifting, Oly-style weightlifting, KB, etc), and it's very obvious how much thought goes into the programming. They also have other programs - endurance, youth, KB, mobility, etc. And child care on Saturdays! And to boot, they have massage therapists, 2 PTs, and other body work professionals IN HOUSE. It's like a one-stop shop for getting awesome. Can't recommend it enough!

This allowed me to freely use whatever I needed without the crowds and waits. I love this for me in any gym. The amenities are great. The indoor pool, sauna and hot tub are a really nice touch here. I look forward to returning to try out some of these options. As far as the price point it's up there in price in comparison to my Y membership. I think for the peacefulness and quality of equipment in this space - it may be well worth it if it's meet one's expectations. My only point out here was some cardio machines could use some dusting. They could also use some new towels here or some fabric softener would help soften the towels. I recommend bringing your own towels.
