I called the salon but it's closed on Monday so I sent Bauhaus a message through Vagaro explaining that I needed to reschedule the appointment. On Tuesday morning, 7 minutes after they opened, I tried calling again but the line was busy, so I left a voicemail. A few minutes later, someone from Bauhaus called me and I assumed they were calling me back to reschedule. Nope. They said that because I didn't cancel my appointment within 24 hours, they are billing me for 50% of the service I booked. I explained that I'd left a message via Vagaro and that I left a voicemail this morning. "You should have left a voicemail yesterday." Specific instructions to leave a voicemail instead of a Vagaro message aren't stated anywhere. I made multiple efforts in good faith to reschedule my appointment and let the salon know that I would not be making my 10am today. "I can't rebook you until you've paid the 50% cancellation fee." That's a shame. I have no problem paying the fee if it will be applied as a credit to my next service, but paying it as a penalty when the salon's booking systems don't support its cancellation/rescheduling policy is deeply unfair.
