I have been here multiple times and never had an issue. I made a 7:45 reservation for tonight and just walked In now, and I the woman at the front rudely says "do you have an appointment?" I said "yes at 7:45. I know I'm early." What happened to the normal "hey how are you, how can I help you?" The stylist then says - "7:45 ? ( in a mocking tone,) You're an hour early" as she's huffing and puffing. I replied "I know that. It's fine!" Meaning - I will wait not a problem. She said "well we're not taking you now, we've got people. You're going to have to wait." In the nastiest tone and with the nastiest attitude. What she didn't know is I worked all day in Philadelphia, I had a nail appointment prior to my hair appointment that finished early and I was going to patiently wait until 7:45 with no problem. Her horrible attitude made me turn right around. I have worked in the restaurant industry, customer service and healthcare field for years and when our patients, guests or customers arrive early for an appointment we do not rudely greet them. We check them in and tell them to have a seat and that someone would be with them closer to their appointment time. POLITELY. After I walked out, I tried to call and cancel my appointment but all I get is a solid busy tone. I booked an appointment here online, services I picked were standard cut with blow out, a time and my reservation was created. I expected to show up at my appointment time, get my wash cut/trim and blow dry as I picked in the website. Only to be sat down within 2 minutes being told I have to reschedule because the stylist couldn't cut my hair because it was "too thick". LOL, now I have to call and personally speak with and find a stylist that can, when every stylist should correct?. I am a Latina not everybody will have simple thin hair. This business should definitely add adjustments on the website letting customers customize what type of hair and length they have to be better accommodated instead of being removed because your place of business doesn't have stylist who can do all types of hair. read more

With the frequent staff turnover, you're lucky if you find a stylist you like and can stick with them. Hard to believe a high volume haircut chain that is supposedly closing at 9pm will turn away a prospective walk-in at 7:40 pm despite a sign on the door saying "walk-ins and appointments *always welcome*" but here we are. Despite my lowball expectations, I'm too often disappointed by this location, which used to be considered viable before they somehow lost their way. After getting shot down here twice, I took my business to the nearby Brace Road location, which tends to be far less busy and much more accommodating. read more

Eh. Cross out that last review. Tonight I walked in after a hectic work day for a quick hair cut, walked up to the desk to sign in, made eye contact with one of the hair stylists -- and then waited. Spent some time watching as the stylists cut some hair, tapped my fingers a bit after awhile, but stayed patient. Eventually, a stylist walked up, asked if I needed to sign in (um, no, I was just standing there for fun), and then told me that the wait would be at least 30 minutes. I knew if I waited, I'd be in for a rushed cut by a fairly unpleasant stylist followed by a hefty bill for the chain-level style. Therefore, I left -- and will be throwing out my customer card. All that could be different had one of the stylists practiced good customer service skills and said, "Hello, I'll be with you in a moment." Shame. read more

WARNING: BE AWARE! A visit at a Hair Cuttery always reminds me why I typically drive all the way up into deep Northeast Philly for a haircut, rather than go to a local joint like this. I'm a guy who likes his hair cut short - so you feel smooth skin at for the low/mid area base, with a nice fade up to a #2 at the top. It is a cut that *any* employed hairdresser *should* be able to handle while sleepwalking. So my simple request to her: smooth skin up to the mid-level, and a nice fade to a #2 at the top. And what happens when she's done? It's not smooth at the bottom and I feel like it has already been a full week since my haircut, when compared to my regular gals up in a small salon in the Northeast. Yet when I pointed out to her (can't recall her name) that it should be shorter, she just rambled that she already cut with a #0; and could go smoother with a trimmer, but it would leave a noticeable hairline (no fade). Seriously?!! And this chain charges 33% MORE than my usual place, for a basic cut! I'm so mortified and angered that she can't cut my hair right (this same thing has happened to me at the Hair Cuttery in Haddonfield, NJ), that I don't even want the shampoo - I just ask her to blow dry my hair and be done. So she still charges me $18 (cut/shampoo) that I signed up for, rather than the $17 (cut/blowdry) that I actually got! I was gonna give 2-stars to this place because it seems decently clean, I didn't have an excruciating wait, and the gal was super-nice; but after reliving my trauma, this experience has been a complete failure and only deserves 1-star. Hair Cuttery really needs to get its act together to be able to handle such a simple cut that girls who barely speak English can handle better in their own salon, and who charge me less! I have never felt strongly enough to send a review, but my experience was so bad this time. I felt the need to share. I understand it is the holiday season, but please do not work if you are not interested in expecting high volume. And although, I appreciate the price, it should be that the first haircut gets the same amount of attention as the last. So I walked in and she asked me what I wanted. I explained and after a shampoo....she took at total of maybe 10 minutes to cut my hair....she NEVER once asked where my part was, and when I told her I had layers she completely ignored me. When she finished the first time, I told her it was still too long and she was visibly annoyed. And the final result.....MY HAIR IS LITERALLY UNEVEN. I've been looking for a place for a haircut since I moved to Philly. I couldn't decide between all the Center City salons with their wildly mixed reviews and hefty price tags. Today, I headed to Wegman's for a grocery run and spotted this Hair Cuttery across the parking lot. It was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday morning at 10 AM, but my wait was only about 10 minutes. For $35 plus tip, I got an efficient wash, cut, and blow dry. I've tried a range of places-- from more upscale salons to Chinatown spots-- and this place is pretty decent for a franchised salon in a shopping center. It was clean and unpretentious. No frills-- no wine while I waited, no exposed brick walls, no tattooed hipster stylists-- but I got the haircut I asked for. (And I can spend that extra $30 I saved on a nice bottle of wine.) I'm not one to review and badmouth and I have been debating leaving one since my cut in September, but it's taken me over a month to process how bad it actually is. I went in with a very specific request along with corresponding pictures of my own hair. What I got was not only *NOT* what I asked for (this happens from time to time with curly hair but usually it looks good and I can make it work), but this was the worst cut I've ever gotten. Somehow it was too long and too short at the same time, with extremely short layers on the top of my head and bangs so long they look like they've been growing out for months. I want more than nothing to include the name of the stylist that butchered my hair but I'm not in the business of getting people in trouble. The haircut was bad enough the it even overshadowed how rude the stylist was from beginning to end. My suggestion is just to avoid this place entirely. read more

Does Not Need a Hair Dryer to BLOW... I took my 16 year old daughter to the Cherry Hill, NJ Hair Cuttery last night and Oh My. She wanted to have her hair trimmed and color for photos she was having taken in a few days. The night before when she went with her mother she was told there was enough time so we returned. She was in view when she sat in the chair with the stylist. She explained what she wanted and the stylist explained the cost of having her hair colored. Since my daughter's hair falls in the middle of her back the price went up quite a bit. Also it was explained that she would need FREQUENT trips to touch up the roots. First, she blonde and she only wanted to go blonder, nothing radical. When my daughter came out to discuss what she should do, I noticed another customer approach the stylist about getting her hair done. My daughter, having a bit scared off about the coloring, decided to just have her hair trimmed. The stylist wet her hair, trimmed it (as well as anyone who simply cut straight) and left her, wet hair and all. Just blowing her off. I guess she figured she would get a better tip from her regular customer than a high school student. Here's a tip, this place is the Jiffy Lube of haircare. Go see a professional. read more

I've been coming to this Hair Cuttery for 3 years. Never disappointed! Melissa, my stylist was just promoted to lead and she is worth it! My cuts and color have never looked better, short or longer. I trust her with my teenage girls' hair. We've had prom hair done here too! I've been to the expensive, exclusive salons for years but will never go back. I've gone to this location twice. The first time was nice and pleasant, and my stylist was very sweet and friendly. Plus, it was pretty dead with only two other customers, so that may had something to do with the decent attention I received. However, when I last went, I had a horrible experience. I was told it would be a 1/2 hour wait. I decided to wait, but I ended up waiting for an hour and a half. By the time a stylist got to me, she was very rude and abrasive. Donna did not listen to what I asked for and in addition to that, she cut off a huge chunk of my hair by my left ear. I spoke to a friend recently about that experience and she frequents this HC location. She backed me up and says that Donna is the lest friendly employee there. Safe to say I won't be going back to the Hair Cuttery anytime soon, especially now that they don't even take appointments. read more

Chain salons like this are usually hit or miss, and this place is no exception. It all just depends on who you get. My mom recently got someone who didn't know how to cut a short, modern stacked cut, and ended up with an awful haircut. I think her name was Lisa. I'm sure she's good in other areas, but definitely not for more modern cuts. The manager tried to come to the rescue, but it was beyond repair at that point. Conversely, I went in the other day and got Teresa, and I loved her! She's a really great listener, and will work with you to find a happy medium between what you want, and what's best for your hair/face shape. She was very focused and attentive. I really loved her style- super sweet personality with confident hands. I will definitely be sticking with her from now on. read more

I do want to qualify my review. As another poster said, if you have ethnic (Black) hair that isn't relaxed, this probably isn't the salon for you. I had my two granddaughters' hair washed and blow dried. They charged an additional $10 which I was okay with, but the outcome was far less than acceptable. I took them home and flat ironed, but the blow dry just wasn't good enough to get their hair straight even with my very expensive flat iron. I do a better job at home. That being said, I also had my hair done. Wash and blow dry. I didn't even need a flat iron afterward. My stylist seemed to have a much better quality blow dryer and excellent skills. Her name is Aimee and I highly recommend this salon because of her. I've already been back once and will continue to go as long as Aimee is there. read more

There were 3 employees hanging around and not one could give me a haircut that would take 10 minutes, even if it's 40 min. Til closing? I was in from out of town and had to go to a wedding. I had unfortunately left all of my hair stuff at home. I have a disease called trichotillomania which causes hair loss and without my stuff there was no way to put it up. My husband went in for a haircut the day before and it was awesome. The woman Leslie did an awesome job on my updo but I have one complaint... When I called the day before and asked the price she said 27 for a basic updo and I told her yes I just wanted basic. Then when she sat me down I again said basic updo. She proceeded to curl my hair etc etc and I thought to myself this is an awful lot of work for a basic updo but ok. Hair looked awesome. Went to checkout and it was 50 bucks... That is a far cry from 27. I was floored. Being on a budget I was forced to leave a measly tip and all but crawl out of there. Wish that I had been informed that we were going that high. I would have said no lets just do a quick one. read more

I don't usually write bad reviews, but I had the most horrific experience at this salon and felt I should share. I have, for years, gone to hair cutterys near me to get my hair blown out, spending hundreds of dollars, and have usually been very satisfied with the results and the customer service. My last visit was clearly an exception. I walked in close to closing (it was my daughter's baby shower the next day and I had limited time but I thought a nice blow dry was in order) and was told they would take me right away. About 5 minutes into blow drying my hair, the stylist became visibly exasperated--pulling my hair/head in all directions and saying she was having difficulty. I tried to walk her through what to do, but she just kept flipping the brush in all directions and then proceeded to criticize my hair, saying she's been able to do "black people's hair" easier than mine and that she just couldn't get it right. She then called in her supervisor and they both tried to blow dry it together and together they continued the criticism--asking if I've ever had a successful blow dry and when I responded "all the time and usually @ a hair Cuttery" they both clearly found my statement to be unbelievable. When they were finished I had a huge head of frizzy, horrible hair that looked like I was having a bad hair day---really, really bad and although I felt like I shouldn't have been asked to pay, I was so dumbfounded by the experience, that I just paid, left as fast as possible and went home and washed my hair. My niece had met me at the salon for a ride home and witnessed the whole debacle and she couldn't believe what she was hearing and seeing. The only up side was telling the story the next day to all the guests at our shower. Do not go to this salon--they don't deserve your business/anyone's business!! read more
