I got this same service done at another establishment a few years ago and definitely prefer Studio 6a and Hannah's work! She was so friendly, gentle as she worked, and knowledgeable. I wish I could submit photos because words would not be necessary. After being a regular client for 2 years or so, the stylist that I had been seeing is no longer there. I was referred by the receptionist to see EJ, allegedly a master stylist. Don't get me wrong, he was a nice guy and very entertaining, so note that this isn't a personality rating, but he literally did the worst job highlighting my hair. I had harsh lines, uneven color, areas totally missed, and even red tones despite the fact that the goal was blonde. After submitting photos to the salon, it was agreed that this was not a job well done and needed addressed. They wanted me to go back to EJ to which I said was not an option. If it were a minor error, I get it, but why on earth would I allow someone who did everything wrong to "fix" it? Studio 6A understood my position and as a result, they suggested that the owner be the one to fix it. However, what didn't sit well with me is that the receptionist's exact words were "she will squeeze you in and all she needs is an hour" and put me on the schedule 3 weeks later because that was all her schedule allowed for. (sidebar, I was disappointed because I did communicate via email with Nicole who later tried to tell me that they never said that all she needed was an hour- but they did). I had submitted photos to other hair stylists elsewhere and had a couple of consultations after this EJ visit and they all agreed that this would require several hours and several subsequent visits before this could really be corrected. Otherwise, I would get hair damage that I was not interested in acquiring. Studio 6A does not offer refunds but made an exception and ultimately did. However, they absolutely 'nickle and dimed' me and only refunded me the color portion on the service and not for the entire visit which was color and cut. All I will say about the cut is that all I asked for were framing layers around my face and if you aren't interested in looking like you have blunt, staircase like layers- don't have him do that either. Ultimately, this trip will cost me likely two more trips before I can have my hair look 'normal' again. Terrible experience and this sucks for me! read more

Brittany is the BEST! I was in a pinch. My hairdresser canceled on me last minute and I was scrambling to find an appointment the day before (on a Saturday‍) Studio 6a came through for me. My hair was... a lot. I didn't realize how thick and full it was, but Brittany took the time (all the extra time) to be sure it looked amazing. I'm so grateful for her work and the entire staff. Everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, patient, accommodating, and overall amazing. They are also a boutique offering super cute and unique items. I've been a client at Studio6a for around 3 years now. My stylist Lis left & I usually don't trust anyone with my hair, so I was a bit reluctant to give anyone else a try. Bevy gave me a haircut & EJ gave me a full highlight & truthfully I am so glad I gave them a chance. They did an absolute wonderful job. My highlights from EJ turned out better than I expected. He got me to the blonde I wanted, without any brassy pieces & went right up to the root. Bevy gave me the 90's Rachel cut with a 2024 twist & I'm always getting compliments. I've gotten waxes and facials from the esthetician Hannah & she's wonderful too. She got the pesky bits out of my face that I've been trying to get at for YEARS. The salon has a wonderful atmosphere and makes you feel extremely welcomed and cared for. I saw a 1star review & I assure you it's very few and far between that 6a finds someone disappointed. ***edit***original post below line*** I'm not as happy now that I'm home and can see how short my hair is. It does still look good and is now incredibly healthy but I think way more hair was cut off than necessary. My hair hadn't been cut in a long time so I expected 4 inches, easily more than 6 inches was cut off. I didn't realize it when I looked and was sitting in the chair or when I first got home because I assumed it just seemed short due to the curl so I ran my straightener through it and it's very short. I did a photo comparison of a front photo from yesterday and then a back photo (to see its full length from today) and I really think wayyy too much was cut off. I know it's not "short" for most people, but it definitely is to me. If 6+ inches was really necessary I wish she would have told me to aid in the expectation because now I'm sad and hoping it grows back to my butt by my wedding. -------------------------------- Had a great experience with my haircut and eyebrow wax this morning. The salon is perfect! I got a mini tour and they introduced me to everything they have to offer (mani, pedi, wax, hair, coffee, etc.) my hair cut was great and the stylist made sure she did exactly what I wanted as she asked me several questions. I also told her about all the errands I had to run today so she gave me a little beach wave look so that I can feel good while running all of my errands, which was amazing! This is my go to place. I've been going here for about 6-7 years? Dana is my hairstylist and I love her. She's friendly and has awesome style herself. My hair is very thick, and I'm pretty picky with how it's styled. I normally need multiple layers and for it to be thinned. I come in with a photo of a similar cut that I want to have, and Dana does it just how I want it. She starts with washing my hair and massaging my scalp with healthy hair products. Then, she starts the haircut! She always asks if I want it cut shorter or want more layers throughout the session to make sure I like it. She blow dries and straightens my hair in the end (because my hair is naturally straight). The salon is super cute and cozy. I like how it's smaller because it's never loud or crazy in there. They have refreshments out and tons of hair/nail products. Dana did my makeup once to show me how a certain eyeshadow looked even when I told her I wasn't going to purchase it, which was really nice. All the other stylists there are great and friendly. I really love it here, and don't plan on going anywhere else anytime soon. read more

I lived in LosAngeles for years and I hadn't realized how spoiled I was with great colorists and stylist until I moved back to Cleveland. I searched for several years, went to 6 other salons and stylist before I found the very talented Nicole Wheeler, co-owner of Studio 6A. Nicole is a certified Master Colorist and it shows. I was a brunette for years and she slowly brought me blond. It looks great! And as I've gotten older I see the wisdom of how lighter hair really softens my looks. I could wax on about her many wonderful skills and talents but what I most appreciate most about Nicole is her willingness and ability to collaborate on my changing style. When I sit in her chair the first thing she asks is "what's working with my cut and what's not?" She lets me dry my own hair so I know I can attain a great style when I get home as I get at the salon. I get stopped on the street so regularly from woman who love my hair style that I've started carrying Studio 6A cards. I kid you not! Lastly to the salon itself. It's a small very personal salon. It's warm, friendly and zero intimidation factor. They have a receptionist Sherry who I want to squeeze! That's how nice she is! And a big plus is they are the only salon I've seen in Cleveland that carries the Davines line of products, which are amazing! Great salon, great stylist, great service-oriented personnel. I coordinated with Shari for my brother's wedding. We had 9 girls who needed their hair and/or make-up done, all with different styles. Not only was Shari fun and flexible, the stylists were incredibly warm and talented. I had my hair styled by Mallory and it was easily the best experience I have ever had at a salon. Shari also allowed us to bring donuts and mimosas for the morning, and had a table (complete with a cute tablecloth) and glasses set up for us when we arrived. This was my first experience at this salon, it has a cool vibe with a friendly staff. The reason I'm giving it two stars is due to the underwhelming results of my color service, the color was completely faded after 2-3 weeks. And even though I did not purchase the Davines products in the 'style map', the color should have lasted longer than that. I also did not appreciate that I was charged $20 for extra color but not informed of this by the stylist especially since I was having 2-3 inches cut off my hair length. I grew a bit tired of the Davines pitch from my stylist during my service too, they may not make commissions on the products but they definitely up-sell the entire time! On the upside, the eyebrow wax service was great! And I found some great local companies in the gift shop. However I'll stick to my Aveda salons! read more

I've been going to Studio 6A for many years and feel each and every time that I get a haircut, color, or highlights it is done with exact precision! Nicole and her team are professionals. The salon is smaller than many of the Cleveland area salons, but I feel that it is a positive. They know my name when I call and also when I am greeted at the salon. The salon is clean, organized, and has the latest and greatest in products. The stylists attend continuing education in their profession and it is obvious that they care about the happiness of their clients. Nicole has changed her schedule to accommodate me when I felt that it was urgent to get in for an "emergency cut and color!" I have been to many local salons, both large well known and smaller recommended by friends, over the past 25 years. Studio 6A is the best in Cleveland! read more

Vanity Lab is totally a hidden gem in Westlake. While you'd assume most Westlake salons are snooty and frilly, this place has an urban chic vibe, good music, talented stylists, and great service to boot! I usually get a cut, color, and eyebrow waxing from Roxanne. While other upscale salons I've visited err on the side of caution, she is an amazingly talented hair stylist and is always willing to give me a hip and edgy cut. They have a lot of products with organic and natural ingredients, and I always leave smelling and feeling awesome! Vanity Lab stocks the most versatile and cutting edge products as well. They don't jack up prices or try to sell you bullshit products that you don't need. They also have a really cute adjoining shop called Sparkle that carries handmade and unique jewelry and gifts. They are are great value for what they deliver and if you refer people, they'll give you $10 off for each person that gets services. Speaking of which, if you go see Roxanne, say that Rachel Kacenjar referred you, and you'll get a $20 savings on your first service over $40! I'm not at all paid to shill for them- just a loyal and grateful customer who has tried several trendy salons in the area and happen to think that this one is the best one in Greater Cleveland! *A note on credit cards: they don't take them for tips, so bring cash or a check as well! read more

I could write a 3 page report on my experience here and why you should avoid it, but I don't have time since Vanitylab consumed one entire day trying to fix my hair color and eyebrows. I was a first time client there so they did their style mapping with me and the stylist completely ignored everything I said I wanted and did everything I did not want. So 6 hours later (no exaggeration), 3 attempts at fixing my eyebrow color (and I told her I didn't want them colored to begin with), I still have bright red eyebrows, terrible bright red punk-rock hair color, a chunk of hair on my forehead instead of wispy sideswept bangs and pin straight hair (I wear mine wavy everyday). The manager was very apologetic and they did bring in a senior stylist to help fix it. However, none of them could even fix my eyebrows, so why would I let them continue to color my hair??? They did refund my money but the manager kept telling me to consider the feelings of the stylist and she was also upset that I was not happy. Really? She never seemed upset. She never even apologized. And she isn't the one walking around with pumpkin eyebrows and fire truck red hair. Now I have to find another salon to fix this ASAP! read more

I made an appointment to have a facial (never had one before) and a massage (have had about 3 my whole life) (V-Day gift from the hubby) and did not know what to expect from Vanity Lab. First off the facility itself is wicked cool! It's modern, clean, has a fun boutique, and the staff is very friendly. First I had my facial with Bianca. She was very sweet and made my first ever facial experience memorable. My skin never felt so smooth and looked so radiant! Next I went next door to receive my massage. Tonia has the hands of an angel and totally de-stressed me! It was relaxing and also made my winter aches and pains go away. They also have hair, yoga, and a variety of other services available. I received a phone call from the owner a few days later see how my experience was and to thank me for my patronage. This place is the real deal. Completely disappointed with my service here and the lack of resolution by the owner. My stylist did not listen, and in spite of being stopped and questioned by me multiple times during the process, she continued with her sloppy technique and short cuts. I left with something completely different than I asked for. I asked for lowlights in my intensely highlighted hair and I left a complete brunette. Their solution? Come back and we will rebleach it. No thank you. There are times when redoing a service is not appropriate and one of those is when the customer has completely lost trust in your salon and when you are offering to do something more damaging to "fix" the problem just so you don't have to provide a refund. I took my boyfriend for a haircut at Vanity Lab the last time I was in town (I'm from Miami). Whoever was setting appointments was great- she recommended the right person for us (Nicole is known for giving great guy haircuts) and squeezed us in on short notice. My boyfriend has very fine hair and it was crazy grown out. I'm not the best at communicating what I want in a haircut and neither is he. Nicole magically understood what we wanted and did something even better, giving him a professional, yet edgy, 'do. We love how he looks, and to top that off, she's a sweetheart and a pro. I had my eyebrows waxed with a very lovely lady (I think her name was Ashley and she had great eyebrows herself- always a good sign). You know how one eyebrow is always slightly different from another one? She fixed that. There's a lot of shopping to be done there, too, including very beautiful and moderately-priced jewelry. The jewelry on display is made by local artists and there's an offering for every style. They have wonderful organic shampoos and conditioners, lotions, and other home products, too. When I moved here, I called three nearby salons before the receptionist understood that I was looking for someone who knows curly hair (which is a fairly difficult task and Diana was worth waiting for). VanityLab is close to my house so I gave it a whirl. I almost didn't go back after my first appointment because it was SO COLD in the salon. Like, I had on jeans and a sweater and my jacket under the cape and I was shivering cold... but I did (just with extra clothes most of the time), and I'm glad I did. Everyone is always friendly. Because I have curly hair, and I'm lazy, I can't do anything too trendy, but my standard cut always looks good. I'm surprised that others have said they felt pressured to buy products, because I never have. And I thought the stylists weren't on commission so it seems weird that one of them would push products on a customer. I did start buying the "$24 a bottle shampoo," and I can't imagine buying another shampoo. The bottles are small, but last me almost three months, and my thick, long, curly hair has never felt better. The cost isn't that much either, because you get a discount for pre-booking appointments, and a discount for refilling your shampoo bottles. Either way, if you're spending $8 on crappy drug-store shampoo, you're paying the same amount for a lesser product. read more

I've written reviews about my hair before and I'll probably continue to write reviews about my hair until it falls out - just to get that out of the way. Moving to a new city (which I did in December - to Cleveland) is always intimidating especially when it comes to finding a new hair dresser. I love my hair, I hate it when people F it up. If you have a friend that has fab locks, you just take their person's number and you're good to go, BUT if you don't know anyone you must use your resources, search the depths of the interweb and ask complete strangers for recommendations. It is never fun. That being said, this is how I found Vanity Lab and got gorgeous (if I do say so myself) highlights from Molly. This place is fantastic. They are a full service salon with a kitschy gift shop that is full of LOCAL art work and jewelry by LOCAL designers and clothing and make-up and obviously hair goop. When I arrived they had "Welcome: Gwen & (some other person)" written on their blackboard in the entry way...a way to make their new clients (I assume) feel welcomed and after I checked in, I was offered a beverage (I had hot tea) and introduced to my hair dresser, Molly. She gave me a tour of my place, sat me down and asked me an myriad of questions about myself and my hair and then took me back to the station where she proceeded to go through the color book with me and mix my colors (3 different shades) in front of me while we continued our conversation. After applying the color she showed me to the 'painting station' (or something like that) where they allow their clients access to all of the nail polishes in the joint, files, and various manicure tools, so that I could paint my nails while I waited for my color to process. It left me wondering "Why haven't I been painting my nails while my hair color is processing my entire life?! I can't get those hours back!!" Genius!! My hair turned out lovely (so did my nails if I do say so myself) and I have received tons of compliments. Plus, if you are a new customer (YOU) and have been referred by an existing client (ME) you get a $20 discount!! No joke, so if you're a guy going in for a $27 haircut, you'd only pay $7 your first visit. Same for the ladies, $100 for highlights, you only pay $80 your first time!!! I felt like I was getting away with something! If you do decide to go to Vanity Lab, and I highly recommend that you do, drop "Gwen Miko" and enjoy the discount, the tea and the nail painting station!! read more

I have been letting my eyebrows recover ever since my horrible experience at Jamila in Beachwood. They still haven't completely returned to normal, but I needed someone to at least do something with my overgrown eye-weeds. I saw a review for Vanity Lab pop up in my Yelp feed and decided to check it out. I was able to make a same-day appointment on a Saturday (nice!) with Beverly. She spent a few minutes consulting with me on how I envision my brows to look. This was a welcome change from someone just going to town and ripping your face off. Since my brows were in such disarray thanks to my threading experience, they were growing back unevenly. Beverly did a wonderful job of cleaning them up and explaining that they aren't going to look 100% perfect just yet (yeah, my brows were THAT BAD) but with a little time and a good aesthetician, they would be brought back to the shape and thickness I preferred. Although I got an ok haircut here, it wasn't anything special. They also did the move I hate more than anything else in a salon. They passed me off to some trainee to blow-dry my hair. I don't know when salons decided this was a hip thing to do, but all it does is tell me that my stylist doesn't have time for me or care to see what my hair looks like when it's dry. The blow dry girl wasn't there for the consult or cut, so how am I suppose to have confidence that she is doing it right? Especially when she pulls out the dreaded round brush that I have already told my stylist I can't use and don't want used. read more
