Love Vanity Lab! We went for my sister's wedding a few weeks ago. The whole experience was awesome. We booked our appointments on pretty short notice for a whole bridal party, but Ernie at the front desk was so accommodating to get us all in and out on time! Can't say enough positive about Studio 6a. The staff are all friendly and professional. I have very difficult to color hair and Nicole, one of the co-owners of the shop, a certified Master Colorist has gotten it right every time. I get lots of complements on the color of my hair especially. I followed Nicole from her last salon to Studio 6a. Before I found her I had searched high and low for a great stylist who could handle my coloring. Again, can't recommend them enough!! read more

I went for a haircut with my $50 Spafinders gift card here for the first time. I asked for only 1-1-1/4" inches cut off, instead she cut off OVER 3" !!! My hair hasn't been this short for decades. It is a DISASTER. I paid for it with a $50 gift card but they KEPT the change, saying they only would put it on my account to be used for future services. She would not even give me a printed credit for the balance, to verify it. So now I have to go back for more PUNISHMENT to get my money back? The salon is a mess: badly lit, cluttered with junk and unkempt, but everyone is very upbeat and friendly: This doesn't change the fact that my holidays are ruined because my hair is HIDEOUS. I called to complain about the haircut and to request my refund but they still refused. Worst experience I have had in a salon in a long time and they STILL have my money! read more

I work far west side and live in Avon Lake...and drive to Vanity Lab every 3.5 weeks because of Nicole. Sure it's a "salon", but guys looking for a good cut and a good time frequent Vanity Lab because they know what they're doing. 3 years later and it's my only choice. Ask for Nicole and you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah - they don't make commission on shampoo and stuff so there's no pressure like most places. I had the pleasure of visiting this establishment for my FIRST highlight in over 5 years. That's right, ladies, I'm virtually a hair color virgin. Upon entering the spa, I was pleased to see all the local vendors they support. They carry so many unique cute finds in their showcase. I met with their stylist Rachael R, AMAZING! After I told her my ideas, she recited them back to me several times to make sure we were on the same page. This may go unnoticed, but I really appreciated it. So many times, stylists hear "their version" of our desires. She clarified my commitment, upkeep, and time management to ensure I was doing what was best for ME! Again, I appreciate this. So many women want the "celebrity do" but how many of us are willing to put in that sort of time? Not only was she understanding, she was KNOWLEDGABLE! I cannot even explain how she described the color process to me, I could tell, she KNEW what she was doing. In the end, I left completely satisfied with my end result! I have very curly and temperamental hair. I moved to the Westside 4 years ago and decided to give up my Eastside stylist of 6 years to find someone closer to home. I have been coming here ever since. Ashley is phenomenal and never disappoints. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and hip. Hair color lasted barely 4 weeks, and faded at 3 weeks. I liked my stylist but she was too busy and was cutting other clients hair while working back and forth on mine. Had a few helpers. I did not feel like my time was my time and a little cheated at the price I paid for a cut and color and one of the best stylist, only to have been passed back and forth. I wanted to like it here as it was highly recommended but overall, sharing your stylist with 3 other clients and having the color fade so quick. I even bought the diviness hair products to help at home...no luck for me. Not really worth it for me. Try it once, maybe you will have better luck than I did. read more

A guy's perspective... I'm from a southeast suburb of Cleveland and I make the trek out to Vanity Lab monthly because it's that good. I'll explain. Unlike some men, I'm really picky when it comes to haircuts. It typically takes 3 or 4 visits to express what i'm really looking for and to get a good rapport with a stylist. I've been going to Roxanne since the beginning and she understood my needs right off. She's incredibly friendly and has a innate ability to cut through my babbling about what I was looking for. She asked all the right questions and got right to it. I will continue to go to Roxanne as long as I possibly can because she has to be the best stylist I've been to. She now also cuts the hair of my wife and children and all of us feel the same. The folks who run the day to day operations are fantastic as well. I'm typically a pretty disorganized person so their call and email reminders are certainly useful. My days are also very hectic and often rescheduling is necessary. They've been great to work with both over the phone and via email to find another slot that works, it's never a problem. Vanity Lab rules and I won't be looking for another place for my family's hair styling needs. read more

I am an ex hairdresser. And I would totally recommend going to Ashley here. For starters the salon itself is incredible, the staff is The highest trained salon staff I know of. The owner takes pride in her business, salon and employees. The shop there is adorable, I stop in for gifts frequently. Update 2: My hair is incredibly damaged and I've had several people who frequently color their hair tell me that they've never see even sensitive hair get damaged this badly after two sessions. Back down to 1 star...and if I could, I'd give 0 because this mess is going to be a nightmare to undo, all because the stylist didn't listen and didn't bother to tell me she wasn't capable of doing what I wanted. read more

This is a really nice salon and I love my hair! I got color and a highlight... It looks great and exactly what I wanted. The reason I chose to give 3 stars instead of 5 is because my final cost at the end. I picked this salon because when I called they said they did a complementary blowdry after color or you could upgrade for $10 to get style too. I picked the complementary because for me paying money to get a blowdry is ridiculous ( some other salons charge $26) when I made my appointment the girl on the phone said my services will cost $140 and a complementary dry. When I checked out my total was $165, I didn't say anything because I was happy with my hair and didn't want to complain. Well when I left I looked at my receipt and I was charged $140 for the color and highlight (like they said) but then there was a $10 blowdry charge and a $15 toner charge...... I did not ask for toner and was nit informed it would cost $15. I was not happy I would have rather walked out with wet hair then pay $10 for a blowdry. The stylist should have known prior that I chose the complementary blow dry. I don't like getting up charged for services, I except to pay what I'm told in the beginning and not have that change unless I add something myself. I really liked it here and was going to go back but I'm thinking another visit will not happen anymore. I know it's only $25 extra dollars but I don't like surprise charges even if it was $5. read more

The Standard by Which I (NOW) Measure Any Hair Salon I am 32 years of age, male, and when given little thought, have had my hair cut just shy of 300 times. I hadn't given any thought to how my hair looked or was perceived until someone I regularly see used the word "terrible" to describe how I have been styling my hair. I have been a guy who had habitually gone to the same hair stylist for years simply because I had yet to hear harsh criticism offered me about how I styled my hair. Reality is that I had grown accustomed to paying for what I label as "Standard Issue Bull Sh*t". No individual should accept paying for anything that could be labeled as "Standard Issue". Whether male or female, young or old, there is one place to go if you want someone with expertise in styling any type of hair and do it in such a manner whereby this salon separates itself from it's competitors. Simply put, and most importantly, here's why. There's actually a procedure followed by each hair stylist from which they gather what it is the client would look the client would like to achieve. The hair stylist has already determined your hair type, the possible styles, and if your wants and needs can be met and how they can go about it. That simple, unique 4-5 step process is unbelievable to me for good reason. I thought to myself and compared my experience at any hair salon, then quickly figured out that how The Vanity Lab goes about styling any individuals' hair boils down to giving the customer what they want. End of story because in this day in age, establishments such as a salon only care about one thing, and that is their sales figures. Let me say this with as much conviction as possible, The Vanity Lab did for me what I had accepted as something that wasn't possible for a male. For example, today at work, I had a one-on-one conversation with an older gentleman who has an office in the office building I work in where I noticed that there was a point in time where he was looking directly at the top of my head, then said to me, "You know what? Your hair look really good." Let's pause there for one second. Not only has anyone never made a comment about my hair looking good, but the comment was made twice in the same day from a straight man who is in his late 60's. I can tell you with 100% certainty that if he said it, he meant it. Not too many things surprise me, but this did, and let's not forget that the comment didn't come from my grandmother who's "unwritten" job is to go beyond loving their grandchildren but go to the next level and compliment anything and everything about you.........at least that was my experience and even told them that it was what grandparents do. Hopefully by now you have gotten the message I'm trying to convey here. If you think your hair is styled right, and you never give any thought to giving a new salon the chance to earn your business by doing what they do best which is belittling prior salon experiences and results for any customer who walks into "The Lab". Break out of the old habit of making that monthly appointment with the same stylist for a longer period of time than you'd like to admit, and let The Vanity Lab illustrate to you how something so simple as communication with the hair stylist will give you that look you have always wanted yet didn't know where to begin to describe how to go about getting there. -- "Smooth" read more

FANTASTIC haircuts and highlighting! Katie cuts and highlights my hair to perfection. She takes the necessary time to cut, highlight and style. She is meticulous with each step, including the luxurious shampooing and conditioning. I have received multiple compliments at work, and one coworker told me that I had the best hair of anyone there. I have made appointments with Katie for at least three out of town guests and they have all been thrilled with the results. My fiance has very curly hair and has been blowdrying then flat ironing since I met her, 3 years ago. Getting ready for her was usually very timely and she was still never happy with the end result, unless it took 2hrs. She recently saw Nicole @ Vanity and is so in love with her results. Our bridal party of 6 had our hair done here on June 25. Though the salon was busy with several other bridal parties, each of us was taken in quickly. Hair was done in a timely manner and we got out in time for us all to dress for the ceremony. Nichole did a great job on my hair. Ashley was fabulous with the bride!! Our 7 year old flower girl looked adorable! The only reason I gave a 4 star rating was because one lady felt rushed when her stylist told her she only had a half hour to do her hair. The stylist didn't have many suggestions about what to do with her hair but her hair did look OK when it was done. Should you need jewelry or hair ornaments there is a great selection of locally made items in the front. Great stuff!
