I've never left a Yelp review, and after months of thinking, I felt that I needed to leave this comment now. I've gone to Studio 806 for over two years. It was good (pricey, but manageable) and I liked the stylist. But the last time of went was the last time I will ever go since I had a bad experience. I had split dye hair (dark, dark brown and bright blonde. Half and half). I wanted to go back to natural. I went in, and she color-matched as best as she could to my natural roots. The red color was not exact but nice!, but after four days, you could tell the split in hair color was still present (the brown stayed dark and the blond side faded out). I hadn't washed it for three days (to let the dye sit0 and I made sure to not use any striping shampoos or hot water. And I watched it for a few more days to see what would happen. Half of my head was still uneven. I called about getting it fixed, and I scheduled another appoint. All went well. Felt that it looked nice. However at the end of the appointment I was charged $60?? After my $240 first appointment to fix it? I didn't question it at the time. But two weeks go by and my blonde side comes back through. Enough that point I just had enough. I paid over $300 for bad results. I am on a student and part-time budget and over $300 hurt to have my hair still look wack. I have never gone back to a salon to ask for a refund before, so I mustered some courage and went in. I chatted about the situation with the receptionist. She gave some options, but I honestly just wanted my $60 back. The receptionist the owner will give me a call once she was in, so I could ask about the options more. I felt so cheated that I was charged $60 for something that didn't work on top of something that already didn't work. But the call never came from the owner... I called back the next day and left a message to explain the situation again and to ask the owner call me. No one ever called me back. My hair is still uneven to this day (enough that people comment on it), and I am $300 sunk in cost on hair that is sub-par. I feel icked that I was ignored twice from management/salon. Now that I compare to my friends' experiences elsewhere, if their stylist messed up or the style went poorly, they never were charged again. The stylist would fix it for free. I can't believe I paid $60 for my stylist to spend 15 mins coloring and washing my hair for it to still look wrong. Looking back, I wish my stylist was more involved. Here, I was not asked about my hair history. What kind of previous colorings did I have? How do I shampoo? How do I condition? What are my hair worries? I just wanted to share my story. So, I understand that a lot of having a good experience at a salon comes down to the individual hairstylist. The environment is nice enough. I had a good experience last time, so thought I would be back. However, my stylist had kind of an attitude when she was with me. She acted like she'd literally rather be anywhere else. Maybe she thought it was weird I was wearing a mask, I don't know. But she is definitely the kind of stylist who'd badmouth a client in front of a client. I have never been one to go and get my hair done professionally. I always used that darn box color that would dye not only my do but also my neck and hands... yuck! Anyway, I decided to go with blonde highlights a little over a year ago, and someone I knew recommended Studio 806. I was a little hesitant because I thought I would be forking over the big bucks, but I also felt I deserved a professional cut and color after all of these years, and would probably only pay a little more than your average place. I gave it a try, and boy am I glad I did. I love my hair and have been routinely going since my first visit whenever I need a refresh. Shannon was the first to do my hair, and now she is my girl every visit. We probably know each other's entire life stories because getting highlights is not a quick appointment. I feel extremely comfortable there, and I love that her station is in the back room where it seems more private and calm. Usually, I am the only one back there, and it is really relaxing. Shannon is such a devoted hairdresser that she travels to Syracuse for one half of the week to work on her clients there (which is her hometown), and then comes back to Buff for the rest of the week and works her job here. She always does a beautiful job, and I get lots of compliments my hair. Its a little expensive, but that is because I have really long hair, I am getting highlights, and a lot of times I get a cut too. I don't mind though because I feel like it is well worth the money, and saves me a great deal of time and frustration doing my own hair. Came here to get our nails done before my best friends wedding. We had Sarah and Emma as our ladies and they were so sweet and nice! Emma had the excellent recommendation of letting me have a "party nail" on each hand with glitter. I still have perfect nails a week later and would certainly go back if I didn't live many states away! Walking in you feel very welcomed as they offer you a hot beverage or water while you wait. This is more of a review of management than any hairstylist. I got my hair cut here and was pretty disappointed about the quality of the cut for the high price. It was bad enough that for the first time in my adult lifetime of getting haircuts, I felt it deserved a conversation with a manager about a refund. It was just not anywhere near worth what I paid, and it was going to take years to grow back out, so I called and left a few messages for "whoever's in charge"; I wasnt sure if that would be a salon manager or an owner... either way, I didnt get any call back, ever. Ok, this place has a lot of different things going on but I have only gotten a haircut and my eyebrows waxed here. First of all, if you're going to go I would check out the website I have above here first and make sure their price range seems ok to you. I went on a reccomendation from a friend who said it was worth the price. This was kind of a mistake as one, he's a guy so obviously he's looking for something different from a hair cut then I am, and two, he apparently does not know normal price ranges for hair cuts as I thought it was pretty overpriced for what they gave me. First of all, the guy cutting my hair wasn't all that nice. I am so used to hair dressers making conversation and actually telling you if they like the cut you picked but you know how sometimes you walk into a store or restaraunt and it's like they turn their nose up in the air the minute you walk in? IT was like that here. Some people may be into the pretentious hair dresser, but I am not. HE didn't really talk to me and didn't really give me any opinions on the hair cut I selected he just started cutting. The hair cut didn't take very long either he seemed sort of bored with it. I just was not impressed by his overall demeanor at all, and the haircut wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive by any stretch of the imagination. Then I got my eyebrows done. The girl who did them was REALLY nice to me, even though it took her awhile and she used the tweezers more then ANYONE I've ever gotten my eyebrows done by. The eyebrows came out looking pretty nice, but they charged me 18 bucks... If I really felt like spoiling myself I might go back here for eyebrows again but probably not a hair cut, because 40 bucks (not including tip) would be fine for a hair cut that is way better then the 25 dollar ones I'm used to it just seemed pretty average whereas at a little bit lower priced places I've gotten haircuts that I loved from nicer people. read more

I am new to Studio 806 and went in for a cut and a consultation on ombre highlights. My appointment was with Lauren, who by the way is a GEM and the owner of the salon. She listened very well as I explained my hair issues and problems with my previous cuts, and helped guide me in the direction of the cut I was looking for. During my highlights consultation, I was impressed with her knowledge and training. She made me feel very comfortable as she walked me through her technique step by step. I am really disappointed with my experience at Studio 806. This was my fourth appointment here and I was scheduled to receive the same service as always, a highlight and color. On Vagaro, the appointment scheduling website, the service is listed as costing $161. I was charged $264 at the end of my appointment. I questioned the receptionist and she listed off all of these additional prices for services I never consented to. My stylist was not transparent in what she was doing or what the additional prices were. Never once did she mention an up-charge. The receptionist seemed frazzled and didn't know how to fix the situation, so she promised me that if I paid the amount, I would receive a call from the owner for a refund the next day. I waited a week for a call. I called twice and was ignored. The receptionists kept promising that the owner would call me by the end of the day. Lauren, the owner, called me finally a week later after I sent an email. She did not give me the refund I was promised. She threw her receptionist under the bus, telling me that she never should have promised me a refund and that she didn't know what she was talking about. She told me that they do not issue refunds, only gift cards, and only if there's something wrong with your hair, regardless of the service. Also, if you want the gift card, you have to come in and she has to examine your hair to make sure that something is really wrong with it. Lauren was very rude and did not apologize once for the misunderstanding. When I told her that I was upset that I had been lied to, she snapped back and said that the staff never lied to me. I feel like charging me an extra $100 without warning is being lied to. I am very upset that I was never reimbursed or at least apologized to. I will not be scheduling an appointment at Studio 806 in the future and will be letting my friends and family know to do the same. read more

She's great at what she does and fun to chat with! The first mani started peeling about 10 days later, not surprising with all the unpacking/moving in tasks I was doing. The 2nd mani lasted really long (well past 2 weeks) given that I was not so rough on my hands. Little pricey for a mani/pedi but there is attention to detail/good service. 5 STARS - MASSAGE: I've had a couple massages with Zoe. She is amazing! Has a proper conversation at the start of each session (doesn't cut into the massage time) to get to know you and your particular ailments/reason for seeking massage. Even recommends products and services (not specific to the studio) that might help. My husband loves going to her as well, and he's a tougher critic than me when it comes to professional massage. 3 STARS - HAIR BLOWOUT: I did this once here with Emma for a special occasion. I felt there was a bit of a communication gap on what I wanted the end product to look like. She did take the time to re-do the parts I wasn't happy with, but overall I felt like my natural curly hair, blown straight, was a bit lifeless, would have liked a bit more bounce (though not full body). I am a fairly new client of this studio through a family connection. There is another review from a different client on 5/24/22 that is very similar to the issue I am experiencing. I have only gotten my hair colored here three times, and the last appointment I had was on 10/22/22 where I was seen by a different stylist than I had seen the first two times. The first two appointments were good, and I was happy with how the coloring came out on my roots. I am VERY particular about how my hair needs to be colored otherwise I will not be happy, because I am paying a lot of money for it. My coloring requires a lot of meticulous and constant upkeep so it is a time and money investment. At the end of my last appointment in October, my roots and hair overall looked fine, but the appointment lasted much longer than previous appointments (albeit I had seen a different, if not better, stylist), which tells me the stylist I had this last time was not very experienced. She had washed, blow dried, and styled my hair after the coloring process which, again, looked fine and sitting in the chair I thought everything was business as usual. A couple days later I noticed my roots appearing more prevalently than should after a fresh root coloring touch up, as well as the hair underneath by the back of my head were not colored at all. I promptly called the studio to schedule a re-do after explaining my hair did not seem to be colored properly and that I was not satisfied with how that appointment turned out and they scheduled for about a week later to see the same stylist. I wasn't too keen on seeing the same stylist a second time around, as she had not done a good job the first time so I didn't see how that made any sense but I was eager to get this taken care of sooner rather than later so I acquiesced with scheduling with her again. After the re-do appointment about a week after the initial "mess up" appointment, I was charged an additional $100 + gratuity for the services rendered that should have been done correctly the first time around. At that point in the night, we were the last people in the studio until about 9:30pm and I was too tired to raise the concern and question why I was being charged additional $$$ for what should have been done correctly the first time. I reluctantly paid and called the studio the next day to bring this issue up. I explained that when I called to make the re-do appointment, the studio's re-do policy, or evidently lack thereof, was never relayed to me in terms of what my monetary responsibility would or wouldn't be. I stupidly assumed that I would not have to pay the second time, since I was a dissatisfied customer and the universal cardinal rule in my experience has been that the customer does not pay for the same service twice under dissatisfied circumstances. The receptionist said she would relay this to management to find a resolution but ultimately a resolution to this day, as of December 9th 2022, has not happened. I have called the studio many several times over the course of many days and weeks to speak to management and/or the owner directly over the phone with no success. I'm afraid that too much time has passed to get to the bottom of this, which is extremely upsetting. I have not been offered anything as a resolution; no refund nor a discounted appointment for a future date. Not even a gift card! Literally no resolution. But it is the principal of the matter as to why I am extremely frustrated and unhappy with the lack of customer service and etiquette with the entire situation. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Studio 806 for any future appointments. The staff may read this review and not really care, as they continually bring in business but for me being on the other end of this as a paying customer, this is an egregious business practice and it is the customer who can sound the alarm and ruin a business's brand. read more

806 has been my go-to salon since 2004, that's 8 years! After I moved back to Buffalo from Chicago, I immediately went back, hoping it hadn't changed, and it hasn't! The staff is very friendly and attentive, and will go the extra mile to make you comfortable. My stylist this time around was Judy. She was faced with the daunting task of fixing a diy haircut I impulsively gave myself a few nights before... yeah I walked in with a vague idea of what I wanted and she promptly worked her magic. Not only did my hair look gorgeous when I walked out, but it seems to get better every time I wash it. It air dries beautifully (which is great, as I seldom blow dry), and keeps its shape through humid, sweaty summer days without the need for product. I walked in 5 minutes before my appointment and Judy practically met me at the door. All in all, I think this is the best salon in Buffalo, and have always had a great experience there. read more

Having just moved to the city I have been struggling to find a hairdresser I trust. My first attempt was not successful so I had started cutting my own bangs, but, you know, it could not go on like this. I went to 806 with a friend's recommendation. Really relaxed and hip atmosphere met me as I walked in. Not so loud, good quality music, dim lights, and friendly staff. Shannon was my stylist. Gave me a nice head massage as she washed my hair, and then a great cut! She totally got what I wanted and made sure that I was pleased with the style. Respectful, yet, warm and friendly. I've been getting my hair done at Studio 806 for about 3 years now. I stumbled upon this place when my friend went to get a haircut and immediately fell in love with the place. It is located in the heart of Elmwood and they are always posting specials on their Facebook group. The owner did my hair the first time and he cut off about 16 inches (I was going from long hair to a short bob) and he liked it so much, that he post a picture on the Facebook page! I found out later that a friend of a friend, Shannon, works there so I have been with her ever since. They are a bit on the pricier side but I get 1-2 haircuts/dye jobs a yea so I do not mind splurging. The place is clean and well maintained, excellent customer service. I definitely suggest making an appointment as they do get busy throughout the week. I have done highlights here, hair cuts, color touch ups and they have been excellent. The staff seems very accommodating. My only "complaint" is that they are not open on Mondays. read more

I went to this salon last weekend, thanks to a Groupon deal. I went for an hour long facial and loved it. I can't remember the aesthetician's name, but she was great... made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I kind of forgot she was there after a while (until she started extractions!). I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Studio 806. I was petrified to get my hair highlighted by any one other that my colorist back home, but I had one too many of my girlfriends giving me the, "Oh Sam, you need to get that hair done" looks so I made an appointment. I called several different salons in the area but only this place was able to take me on such short notice, which got me even more concerned that maybe this wasn't the best gig in the area. However, the yelp reviews were great so I figured it was worth giving it a shot. I called, spoke to the receptionist and asked for someone who was good with blonde highlights. She made the appointment with Shannon. Showed up to Studio 806 and the place was adorable. It is in an old home but had a lot of charm, smelled nice and was very clean inside. The seating area was so chic and comfortable. The receptionist asked me if I wanted any coffee or water. Shannon brought me into the back and I told her exactly what I wanted and exactly what I didn't want. She was awesome, very friendly and nice. I have to say, her highlighting method was unlike any I have experienced in my life. She sectioned my hair differently that anyone else has and she didn't use a flat board to highlight my hair. When she began to highlight the sides, she had the foil up against the side of my face and was brushing color onto the hair so it felt funny and made me think, "OMG this is going to come out all wrong." I had a wedding the next day so I started to think how I was going to repair this before the next day. She washed my hair out, blow dried it and I literally did not want to look up to see how it turned out. I thought there was no way, with this method it was going to come out right. I WAS SO WRONG. She did an incredible job. She gave me the exact color that I wanted and nailed my biggest fear, which was her not getting close enough to my root. There's nothing worse than dropping a ton of money on a coloring job that looks like it has already been growing out for a month. I was so happy with the overall job. Turns out her method was weird for me but better than other coloring jobs I've had in the past! The half head of highlights came to $91, not cheap by any means, I know of places in the area who will do a full head for cheaper, but it was a job well done and I really enjoyed Shannon's company so I will be back! read more

I had trouble finding a hair stylist who would do exactly what I wanted. I had been referred by a friend to go here, and Emma made sure I left with a smile and a rockin head of hair. She is extremely professional and I feel like she can relate to all of her clients in some way. They make sure to offer you a drink and have really good magazines (which everyone knows is important). The location can get a bit hairy as far as parking on Elmwood, but sometimes a short walk is worth it to know that you'll be leaving satisfied. read more

I love Studio 806! I tried 6 other salons after moving to Buffalo 8 years ago and once I found this place, I never looked back. My favorite stylist is Kate. She does an amazing job with both cuts and color, but I have also seen the other stylists when Kate is not available, and have always had good experiences with all of them. I have no idea what the negative reviewers are talking about...the atmosphere is always upbeat and friendly, and the work really is stellar. Okay, so I debated on the rating because my haircut was one of the best I ever had, but the atmosphere was not worth it. My stylist was Stefano, who had just started there at the time. I had shoulder length hair and wanted it cut pretty short (pixie-ish with an undercut). The good: He took a VERY long time consulting with me about exactly what I wanted. He spent a good amount of time at the shampoo station (scalp massage is the best part!!), and I LOVED my haircut. He also did an amazing job matching me back to my original hair color with little processing involved. I was there about 3 hours all said and done, which is what I expect when I throw down that much cash for my hair. The bad: He said some problematic things about minorities and LGBT folk. I found it very uncomfortable and eventually just started reading a book to stop talking to him. He just seemed very unprofessional in that regard. He also engaged in dialogue with a coworker who was equally unprofessional. The things that were said were really awful and enough to make me really anxious to leave. I was told to try Studio 806 since I live in the Elmwood Village. I did my research, figured out which stylist I would want to see and booked an appointment online to see her. When I arrive, I was greeted by a totally different stylist and taken to her chair. The change was never addressed with me by the stylist or the receptionist. I went with the flow and gave this alternative stylist a chance. Overall, I'm content with my haircut. I just believe that if I'm paying high-end dollars for a hair trim, I should be serviced by the stylist I was hoping to see. read more

The place came recommended by a friend who is a client there. I went twice and each time I got butchered" I never asked for layers but boy o boy did I end up with layers. I think the stylists are full of themselves and do not really listen to a client and what they request. It was pretty expensive and it took me months to grow my hair back. I went to Studio 806 last night for the very first time and saw Jen, She was absolutely wonderful! Jen took the time to ask me what I wanted to do and she did exactly that. The cut and color is amazing. They do not over charge either. I have a lot of hair to color and have been burned by salons with charging me outrageous amounts for the amount of color my hair requires. The salon is warm and inviting, no stuffiness about it. I recently moved to the area and was nervous about finding someone I trusted with my hair. I went in for a cut and highlights and was very pleased with the results! The cut was exactly what I'd asked for, and I am pretty picky. The stylist clearly knew what he was doing. I personally prefer not to engage in a lot of small talk while at a salon, so I was pleased when the stylist didn't force me into a conversation. I got the impression, though, that he would be more chatty if a customer wanted that. My overall impression is that Studio 806 provides high quality services at reasonable prices. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that I have not tried any of their other services yet. I will definitely be going back though! read more
