Her studio is always up to par with cleanliness standards. The ambiance is relaxing and inviting. Jammie doesn't rush getting to understand your hair vision. She goes through a step by step process and further explains how your hair will hold up in the next 6-8 weeks and how to properly care for your hair. I've always left her studio feeling knowledgeable on how maintain my color until my next appointment. I noticed that her website now requires full payment before you can book any service with her. I thought it was strange since just a few months ago, there was no down payment or anything to book a slot. I completely understand why a down payment could be required. Time is money and it should not be wasted...but to pay in full for a beauty service before the service has been completed is quite a turn off. The cost is no issue, I have just never heard of paying in full before a hair appointment or beauty appointment in general. My mom has been in the cosmetology industry for over 30 years and was also shocked that it wasn't just a down payment. I had warned them about this beforehand, but no one ever seems to really take me seriously LOL. In order to not damage my hair Jane took an entire 5 hrs! working on it, and was very patient the entire time. This was both a pro and a con - pro in that my hair did not come out fried, as it often can, but con in that 5 hrs is a really long time to be spending sitting in a hair salon! They made sure I had water and a bathroom break, which was very considerate. Jane seemed very knowledgeable and specifically did different treatments for the parts of my hair that hadn't been permed before vs those that had. The top layer took very well. The cons: Again, 5 hrs... I very much appreciate them not wanting to fry my hair, but maybe a little speeding up could have been done? Also, while the top layer permed well, the bottom didn't really take - see photos. Also, just FYI, but there is no validated parking. It wasn't terrible to pay the garage, but just something to be aware of. Overall I really appreciated all the time and patience they took, to specially alter treatments for different parts of my hair, and try to not damage it. If there is some kind of middle ground to be able to do the perm and have it take completely in all the hair, and with less time, that would be ideal.

At first I wasn't very happy with the color eyeshadow because it was too mauve(ish) and seemed a little too mature for what I was going for. She was super great about it and worked with me to find a color that was better suited. I've had my makeup done a lot and sometimes artists take it really personally when you say you don't like something. This was not the case at all. I also had photos done for something else and the photographer used Ryan as a makeup artist. Ryan was super friendly and easy to get along with. She also did an awesome job with my makeup. On the actual wedding day, Kathy was punctual and very patient with my bridesmaids. She had done my sister's makeup first and then redid it completely over when my sister got really emotional (happy tears!) and cried away all her makeup. I was so happy with my makeup. I used the airbrush which is amazing even though I was a little apprehensive about it at first. I didn't have the cakey look that so many brides have and the coloring was just amazing. I have never felt more beautiful than when Marquia tells me to hop off her chair and take a look in the mirror. Like today, when I literally couldn't stop gawking at how she took me from Zombie extra in a remake of Michael Jackson's Thriller to a pretty little PR princess! One thing I love about Marquia is her energy and enthusiasm. She is sweet and gracious, and really gets pumped about making her clients look their best. She is engaged and takes into consideration what you want, while transforming that look into something that works for your features. Her infectious smile keeps me calm and soothes me no matter how stressed I am about whatever event it is I'm going to. She is also extremely punctual, and always arrives early, ready to set up and then sit down with you first, before starting. She'll discuss everything from your skin type to how you react after makeup is applied - greasy quickly/break out/redness - and from there, she tailors her approach and what she uses to eliminate those issues and help you put your best face forward. If I could give her a sixth star, I would have, because she is absolutely the most talented makeup artist in the DMV. I've even proposed that she move in with me... I hope she says yes!

I got a root perm and digital perm, but when I came out it look almost the same as before the perm. He did the root perm first and I think when he did the digital perm, he did too much neutralizer and for too long. He was doing 2 other guys hairs while he left it on for too long, even though I asked him that it's been too long. He finished cutting, shampooing, and blow drying this guy's hair while mine was getting fried. There was no sign of the root perm and my hair is now so damaged. Originally when I made the appt, he said $250 and then when I got there he said $375. I got him to bring it down to $310, and it would've been worth every penny if it came out right. Instead I paid $310 for damaged flat hair. Also, they charge extra 10% if you're using a credit card. *update: after seeing this review, they've offered me partial refund. I give them credit for reaching out.

I had great result with a Korean perm at this salon for my first time, so I returned hoping for the…read moresame experience. Unfortunately, the results were far from what I expected. I was convinced to try a perm with soft waves at the end, but instead they used rods for really tight curls which completely ruined the look that I was going for. The ends of my hair don't even have curls; they're just dry, brittle, and poofy and does not look at all like the inspiration photo I showed the stylist. I waited for a couple of weeks to see if the perm would settle, but it has not, and it actually looks worse. I've had perms before, and this by far the worst I've ever gotten. I'm pretty disappointed with the results, and I feel like I wasted time and money as this was quite an expensive service. I definitely will not be coming back to this salon.
