So I was recommended to Salon Fusion by a friend and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. Initially when I called to make the appointment, I was asked what I was looking for and any other particular details in a very professional and friendly manner. I booked an appointment with Amanda. I arrived and I was given a warm greeting and asked if I would like a beverage. I met with Amanda shortly thereafter and we chatted about what I was looking for, past experiences with coloring (I was in for a color), etc. Amanda is very friendly and nice to have a conversation with. She has been doing hair for 17 years! The end result was magnificent. It was totally beyond what I was looking for. There were many in the salon in awe as well. I've visited Salon Fusion back in July. I had the most uncomfortable experience. I'd initially called over the phone and spoke with the receptionist to see if they had availability. I did confirm my hair was curly and that I was coming in for a haircut. Upon my arrival to the salon the receptionist told me that she didn't know I had my hair type over the phone (wtf?); I'm half Black, half Filipino and apparently from what she was insinuating, I sounded Caucasian so she wasn't expecting me to be who I was. The receptionist confirmed, the hair stylists that could do my type of hair wasn't available. I looked around the room and it did appear that there was a lot of Causasians women getting their hair done, so I said all I'm trying to do is get my haircut. I was asked to take a seat and the owner comes over, Bruno Munoz and he says I don't do ethnic hair!!! WTF, I look around and say what type of hair do you do then? He asked me to take my hair out of my bun and I said I'm mixed and that my hair is not thick or has tight curls. Or as he was insinuating "ethnic hair" whatever the f-k that means. He says the stylist that do ethnic hair are out and they can cut my hair. I further explain to him how I wanted my hair and he said ok, I think I can do it. My thought: how are you the owner and you've been in the business for so many years and you can't do all hair types?? I was lead to get my hair washed by a nice young woman who appeared of Spanish descent that was standing beside the receptionist upon my initial entry into the salon. I told her that the owner mentioned he couldn't do my hair and she said we have the same hair type and they do my hair all the time. They can do your hair, says the woman. I did get haircut by the owner and he was trying to be nice and he even rehashed the whole situation and I confirmed that I was thinking about walking out. And, he said that would be bad for business. You think?? I played along and made small talk. Me, being the ethnic person that I am, I paid for my haircut and tipped him to show that even though you discriminated against me, I will treat you with respect. Never, will I ever go back to Salon Fusion. I've shared this story with coworkers, friends, and family members and they said I should have walked out and not paid. And, I should have received a free haircut for the humiliating experience that I had to go through. My suggestion is that the receptionist needs to be fired for racially profiling me over the phone and the owners need to discuss with their staff on how wrong it is to discriminate against a customer because that is what one of them did to me. To the company and owners, do not try to contact me or offer me anything because I do not want anything from you. You do not even earn star but if I had to do, I would commend, the woman that washed my hair for being so welcoming. read more

I was in desperate need of a massage, and even though there weren't any reviews for massages at Salon Fusion I took a chance just hoping I could get a same day appt. My experience at Salon Fusion far exceeded my expectations. First, they were so kind on the phone and they were able to squeeze me in today for a massage (I'd called 2 hours prior!) then, when the client before me arrived a little late thy called me right away to ask if they could move my appt. back by 15 min. So that I wouldn't have to wait. What a surprise! Claire greeted me right when I came in and took me back to her beautiful room. I've had many massages before, but this one was far superior. She understood my problem areas, explained and asked questions. While I realize that by leaving this glowing review I risk losing another same-day appt., I would recommend Salon Fusion to everyone. read more

I went to Shin once a month for six months before my wedding in '09, and now that I'm back in the DC area, I am also back with Shin! I've shopped around since I've been out of town, and I really have to say that Shin is the best. And if it's possible, I'd say that her services have only improved. I've had problems with acne for a long time, and even in adulthood, I've suffered minor to major breakouts once a month or more. I have chronic blackheads all over, and very oily skin. I learned from Shin that I've been taking care of my skin all wrong. And even if I were to see Shin only that first time and gotten her recommendations for better skin products, it would have been worth it. But the expert and meticulous extractions as well as the stress-melting massages have me coming back. Since I've been seeing Shin, I basically -don't- have breakouts anymore. As long as I sleep and eat well, my Dermalogica Active Moist keeps my skin well hydrated so it doesn't overcompensate with oil, my Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Mask keeps bacteria off and even the beginning signs of pimples away and my Dermlogica Gentle Exfoliating Mask helps me slough off the dead skin. These three products have really changed my life, thanks to Shin. Yeah, they're expensive, but the quality of my skin has improved drastically. If you've never had a facial before, don't expect to look your best within 24 hours of your facial. Depending on how much work Shin needs to do on your face, it may look pretty bad. But for me, 48 hours after my facial, I am looking better than ever. When I see Shin regularly, I'm literally down to one -mayyyybe two- single pimples a month. Seriously. Shin is awesome. For anyone with problem skin - at whatever price point - I recommend seeing Shin even just once, so she can help you figure out how to take care of your skin better. After almost 20 years of mild to moderate acne, I thought I knew what my skin needed, but I was so wrong. This review is for Shin. First things first: most everyone has a budget, that is true. However, I can never understand people who are willing to drop $100+ on clothing, accessories, etc. but scoff at paying tht much for a facial. Your hair and skin are the two things you "wear" every day. If you can swing it, why wouldn't you pay that much to keep them looking their best? Secondly, I haven't found Shin to be a product pusher. In fact, before we sorted out my regimen, I was the one asking for recs. Yes, she uses Dermalogica products, which are pricey (I've had to hold off on buying things because of sticker shock), but that's what she works with and knows well. That product line works best when "prescribed" by a Dermalogica esthetician, so there is that to consider as well. As for her facials, she is a perfectionist. I appreciate the time and care she takes in doing extractions, and how she somehow manages to make them relatively comfortable. She is very thorough in all steps of the facial process, and she is honest and accurate about the condition of your skin and what you can do to improve it. For example, she gave me samples of a certain moisturizer telling me not to buy it- instead just use it for two weeks until our next appointment because it would not be the best long term choice for my skin. Two weeks later, she checked my skin and recommended a different choice to buy. As others have said, she has a gentle, soothing touch, and you really melt when she massages your face, neck, head, and shoulders. But as others have also said, she is not a robot who does everything the same for everyone- sometimes you get more massage than others, depending on what your face needs. Another thing I appreciate is that she is very detailed in her instructions for your regimen. I used to be lazy, but now that I do what she says, my skin is really improving. I've been seeing her regularly as I've been in DC a lot, and it's been a great investment. My only complaint is that she's not in NYC!! No No No No! Never again will I go back. I was there for over four hours to get a cut and a highlight which was extremely expensive for the type of salon, not the color I asked for which was simply a refresh of my existing color and they couldn't fit me in to do a corrective color for over 2 weeks. I've been coloring my hair for over 14 years and occasionally the color comes out wrong, it happens. The hairdresser always always accomdates you ASAP in their schedule to correct it. The highlight foils took over an hour to put in my hair, then the color was left on my hair for another hour. When I grabbed the assistant to tell her my scalp was burning, I was under the dryer too all that time, she spoke little English and kept repeating you have 20 more minutes. The hairdresser/owner was too busy socializing and eating to check on me at all. I'm paying less for a better hairdresser in the city now who get's it right and doesn't blow me off. read more

Yeah! I have found Shin again. I was out of the country and dismayed to learn when I got back that Beauty First had closed. I came to yelp and thankfully someone had posted where I could find her again. The walk is a little longer from the metro (Twinbrook) but otherwise I got the same amazing facial. No it isn't cheap, but I'd say it is in line with other establishments. (I'd like to know where these other posters are getting $50 facials in DC!?) Yes she does try to upsell products (I'm sure like all salons she get's a %), but I just said no I'm not interested and will never buy any of these products and after the second time she stopped asking me. My face feels so smooth today it is worth every penny. I go every 2 months and it keeps my skin looking amazing. I'd highly recommend Shin. I haven't tried any other services at this Salon. read more

She was definitely marketing products (6, to be exact). She told me that I have dehydration in two skin zones, pigmentation in two others, and broken capillaries in 3. I am not *disbelieving* her (yet) but I am going to get a second opinion from my dermatologist before I start dishing out $50 for some exfoliant, and God knows how much total. Aside from this, the facial itself was wonderful - I didn't want it to end. The massage was nice, too. I didn't have redness like other reviewers here had, although I left with 2 zits on my cheek that I didn't have when I came in - maybe they were under the surface and she "brought them out"? I don't know. Again, I want to stress that the facial was lovely, although I have had other lovely facials for half the price or less, and I've never had another facialist tell me that my skin had all these issues. That doesn't mean Shin was wrong, but I do want to hear what my dermatologist has to say before I have to file for bankruptcy because of spending $300 a month on skincare products I could probably get at CVS for $45. I plan to update this post after I've seen the doctor. read more

I've been going to Suzie for over 10 years now for my haircuts. I've lived in Rockville for a while, but now I'm in NoVA; however, this doesn't stop me from traveling all the way to see her for my cuts. I'll sooner allow my hair to grow out to unmanageable lengths than book somewhere else (again; learned my lesson more than once). Suzie takes great care with my hair, always recommends the best look for me, and is able to accommodate to last minute requests. She's a true professional and knows exactly what she's doing. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist did not give any indication of noticing me and continued with what was obviously a personal phone call with a friend. When she finally decided to acknowledge my presence, she brushed me off. I was fifteen minutes late for my appointment (now 17), due to construction on the beltway. She brusquely informed me that my appointment was cancelled and that the person scheduled for the appointment right after mine would be arriving soon. She made it clear that the person coming in half an hour was much more important, and she did not suggest any sort of rescheduling or accommodation. 15 minutes should not be enough to cancel a woman's haircut. Frankly, I was appalled that the salon apparently allows only 30 minutes per haircut after shampooing. When I mentioned to the receptionist that I would not be rescheduling with this salon, she just smiled. After that reception, I do not think that I would recommend this salon to anyone, irregardless of how good the stylists are. I have had good experiences with Salon Fusion in the past, but my last experience assured that I will not be going to this salon again. read more

I have been seeing Susie for about 7 years now for both cut and color. If I had a dollar for every time someone has complimented my hair, the services would pay for themselves! First off, the salon is decorated beautifully and EXCEPTIONALLY clean. The front desk staff is typically very organized and will always offer you coffee or a bagel. Susie, who is also part owner of the salon, is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet! Every time I go into the salon it almost feels like I am just coming to chat with an old friend. For the past year I have been going red (although I'm naturally a brunette) and Susie gets the color right EVERY time. She is definitely a perfectionist and will also spend a good amount of time cutting and styling your hair. I have never once felt like she has rushed me. Their prices are very reasonable considering the location of the salon and quality of service. Having worked in the salon/spa industry for years, I can honestly say that Salon Fusion is one of the best in town! I have been going to Sonja, Bruno and Susie for about 20 years (which is crazy because I am 28!), and would never trust another soul with my hair!!!!! Both Bruno and Susie are insanely talented with haircuts- and my hair is NOT easy (extremely thick, long, wavy and coarse) - they work wonders! I have recommended Susie multiple times to friends and family for weddings, and all I can say is WOW! When I was a bit older, I began highlighting with Sonja and have always loved how she does them so naturally. Her coloring skills are unparalleled... I don't even tell her what I want anymore, I just sit in the chair and she does her thing. I can't tell you how many people compliment my hair or ask where I get it done! The staff at salon fusion is also amazing - super helpful and they work well together, like a family. There's parking outside for America's Best (where I was headed) and Salon Fusion customers, but because I am BLACK..SONJA (owner) felt the need to confront me about it and told me that I should park in the garage. However, there has been many cases where people park out front and come to neither of the businesses. I don't understand why it bothers her so bad when SALON FUSION validates parking for their customers who park in the garage. Don't say SHIT to me. There's more important things she should look into, like an upgrade for those outdated hairstyles or new treatment regimens for all those damaged hair customers they service. Ugh! Well, I was very excited to receive a new set of lash extensions close to home . I have been doing my research and found that there was someone who did Novalash extensions at the salon. (Although I did not see her name listed on the NovaLash website. Was a concern for me.) I called and the receptionist answered all of my questions and I scheduled an appointment for same day. (Today) I arrived to my appointment about 15 minutes early so that I would not be rushed and so that I would have time to talk to the stylist re: my desired look. Upon arrival the reception, who was talking to an another employee, proceeded to tell me first that I am early, and that Shin, the stylist, told her that she did not have adhesive for the lashes. The problem I have is, I gave my cell phone number when I made my appointment. I could have received a phone call prior to my arrival. The receptionist did not ask if I would like to reschedule, which was interesting. Sad to say, I will not go here just off of the lack of respect for my time. My husband insisted that I try this new Salon only because we got a coupon in the mail. Given that it was just down the street, I decided to give it a shot but told him that I would walk right out if it looked sketchy. Well, the complete opposite happened. I called and the receptionist Laura, was an aboslute sweetheart. She was able to schedule me for a haircut in 15 minutes. 20 mintues later, I was stuck in traffic due to an accident, down the street. I called and she was so sweet and assured me to not worry and to just get there safely. It made me feel so much better. As soon as I walked, in, I had several people turn with a smile and warmly greet me. Laura immediately checked me in and took my coat so I can get settled in one of the comfy chairs in the waiting room. She then introduced me to Brenda who took me over to her station to discuss what I would like. She was such a sweetie, calm, funny, but not too chatty. Just enough to make you feel comfortable and not bored. Once we figured out what was best for me, she walked me over to the shampoo station, which was quite, comfy, and private. I like how it's tucked away in a corner, which made me feel more safe. No need for everyone to see you getting your hair shampooed. Once, I was done, I was escorted back to Brenda's station and she gave me one of the best hair cuts ever. She was really good a probing me on how much time and effort I want to put into my hair and gave me good tips on what to do to keep it looking good but according to my own limitations (I hate spending more than 20 minutes on hair). In the end, she escroted me to the front, gave me her card (which I will keep safely stored in my wallet until next time) and thanked me for coming in. For the service provided, I was expecting to pay $100 for the haircut but found out it was onl $65 for a haircut and then they took off some for the coupon. I couldn't believe the deal. One of the owners peresonally got my coat and helped me put it on. Everyone at the front thanked me again for coming in and wished me a good day. All, and all, it was the best salon experience ever! **For Shin, facialist.*** I got facials/extractions in Asia for quite some time, but couldn't fly to another country every time I want my skin to clear. After doing some research on Yelp, I visited her at BeautyFirst. It is really important you choose a clean place and person who knows what shes doing. After all, this is your face--don't let anyone mess around with it! So, bearing this in mind, prepare to pay steep prices. Upside of BeautyFirst was that they handed out free maintenance facial cards, which now is discontinued since she has moved to Salon Fusion (BeautyFirst went out of business.) The facial room in Salon Fusion is spacious, clean, and relaxing. She puts on serene music. It's a lot nicer than her prior location, with only minor distractions of sound if somoene is walking by or doing laundry. Shin will start off by asking about your diet, sleep habits, meds so that she uses the right products. Be patient with the language barrier--it's tough for her, but she tries her best. STEP 1 - Cleanse: First, she starts with cleansing your skin with a series of products, and lightly rubs/massages your face. During this process, hot steam is released onto your face to open up pores for easier extracting. STEP 2 - Extract: If you've never had extractions, this could be a brutal step for you. It is quite painful, but once you get used to it, it's not so horrible. No pain no gain! I've developed such a high pain tolerance from facials, heh. It basically feels like needles and pinching to your face. This is when she gets all the bacterias and bumps off your face. After, she uses this electric zapper which I assume is for the redness or to rid of any leftover gunk. Feels slightly uncomfortable but it is very bearable. STEP 3 - Mask: Once extractions are over, you don't have to worry about pain. It's cozy from here no out! She mixes a cooling mask and as it dries, gives you a massage from the upper body to the head. It's no major massage (I like pressure), but it's a nice little freebie with the experience. I always seem to fall asleep. STEP 4 - Final cleansing and protection: She removes your masks, cleanses your face one more time, and puts on toner, moisturizers, and SPF so that you are ready to go. RESULT - In the past I have left facials with super red, irritated skin due to the aftereffects of extractions, but Shin really knew what she was doing and I walked out glowing with just a little pink and red. My skin feels absolutely amazing, and with all of her advice (she tells you a lot during the entire facial), I've listened to her about changing my pillowcases, drinking more water, and especially taking care not to touch my face and clean thoroughly (I switched my products and stopped being lazy). Now, I don't even need to see her except every few months (used to be every month). She never forces products on me. The only one I buy and use religiously is barrier repair, which is excellent for creating a protective layer from bacteria, makeup, layers of lotions, etc. That alone has kept my skin in good condition. This review is for Shin, I would like to start with I love her and I am a regular, I have been following her ever since she worked in Beauty First, She cleared up my skin pretty well before, and I would only go to her and that is. I even recommended her to all of my friends. However, I had an allergic reaction to something back in Christmas time last year, and I tried to fix it by going to her again, and after going to her every week for 2 months (i would say? or even more than that), I didn't see much results at all. I was frustrated so I stopped going to her. I think the regular facial is better than the acne package, because i think i do see some sort of difference when i do those regular ones that is 100+, but when i brought the acne package, i dont think they are as effective. I still love and trust shin, but this was just a bit scary. I dont want to spend a lot of money and then get no results. I might go back in the future, but I dont think it will be anytime soon. 4 star is because i would have given her a 5 if this whole thing didnt happen, and i would have given a 3 or less if it weren't because i already had the trust for her from earlier years. read more

I now carry her business cards with me to give them to those who complement. I was directed to try Fusions from a good friend with great hair. I have been a regular customer at Fusions since 2008. They use good quality products, mostly Redkin or Pureology lines. Also, the hair color they use is amazing (not sure exactly the name of the brand but I think it comes from Italy). My hair always feels more healthy after I leave, I'd definitely recommend one of their many hair treatments. Lastly, the staff at Salon Fusions is very friendly and welcoming, I always feel comfortable when I'm there. read more

Shin and a manager informed me that I'd receive a refund for the chemical peel and they would do everything possible to right this wrong. I will follow up in 4 days to see Shin. The facial was fantastic. $114 gets you a deep clean, extractions, and fantastic shoulder rub while your mask works it's magic. The salon is clean and has great energy. This was my first time there.
