I just started coming to Studio Lux 2 months ago. I was in a tight bind at Christmas time and Christine graciously got me in for a cut and color. I left feeling fabulous. The second time I went in her daughter Rachelle took great care of me. She was also very professional and pleasant. Since I have very dry thinning hair, she listened to everything I said and helped me decide on product and how to cut and color it. She made me feel very confident and comfortable with my decision. I came in requesting long layers throughout with little length taken off the longest layer and face framing layers up to my chin. Christine washed my hair, struggled to cut it wet, then blew it dry. When it was dry, she cut the shortest face frame below my shoulder. I asked for it to be as I had asked at my chin and was guilted for asking her to stick to this because she would have to re-blend it into the other layers. This happened another 2x, not sure why we couldn't stick to my original request. The irony is she never blended it in, and I was left with blunt bangs. She took thinning shears to my all hair multiple times instead of layers as I had asked and after over 2 hours for a simple hair cut, I left with 2 blunt and choppy bangs with NO layers in the rest of my hair. My hair is just a lot thinner....great. She also never checked the face framing layers with my middle part, cutting my hair the whole time up to the very end with a crooked/irregular part. I highly recommend you avoid seeing Christine for a service even as simple as a cut unless you plan for a blunt trim with no layering or actual cutting skills. read more

First salon in my entire life that I ever walked out of. Based on how the owner of the salon spoke to me as soon as I sat in her chair, I knew that I needed to leave. First, she started off with telling me my hair length was going to cost extra because more dye would be required. Fair! I told her, however, I was planning on cutting quite a bit off. She then started to really rudely tell me that my hair was dirty and that she couldn't apply product on it and that she would have to wash my hair. I've had my hair dyed many times when my hair wasn't freshly washed that day. Okay, I thought, she can wash it. She proceeded to tell me I didn't tell her that I didn't plan on washing my hair....The way she was speaking was so rude. She then told me in a short tone to get up and let's go wash it. At this point, I knew I didn't want her touching my hair. I told her calmly that she was making me uncomfortable to which she responded I was making her uncomfortable. How?! Then, she proceeded to tell me how long she's done hair and that she knows it needs to be washed.....okay.....she was treating me as a huge personal inconvenience when I'm paying her to do her job. At this point, I told her I think we should just cancel. She kept getting ruder at this point I had enough, I told her I couldn't believe she would treat her clients this way to which she responded in a loud voice something to the effect of "I am the owner and I can treat people however I want" and slammed the door behind me as I exited. Christine is AMAZING. I've been cutting my own crazy thick unmanageable hair for the last 10 years because I have some trust issues. I found Christine and not only was she reasonably and upfront about pricing but she told Before she did my service she told me exactly how much she was going to charge and that's how much she charged! Christine is beyond lazy, she will spend your appointment absentmindedly working on multiple clients, rushing around, then she will complain about her clients and how they want her to "work too hard." Unfortunately, if you go out of your way to message her the exact colors she will need for your hair, she will seem appreciative; yet she'll still find a way to be unprepared. She just reached out to me for the first time in 6 months since she burned my hair all off and said "i really needed to know what happened." Pretty disappointed in how things turned out. I called on a Saturday morning to see if there were any openings; the lady on the phone let me know they had one in 30 mins - great! I let her know I had a Groupon and all seemed well, we hung up. She called back about 10 minutes later to ask if I had purchased the Groupon yet, to which I replied I had. I then said that I could always cancel it and pay in store if that made it easier, to which she seemed pretty happy. Red flag #1. When I came in, she greeted me and was incredibly friendly and sweet, things were looking great. I showed her a picture, we discussed that I was looking for a soft Balayage with golden touches and NO orange/red tones and it seemed great. She draped the cloth over me and then out of nowhere, let me know that because of my length, it would be an additional $65. Red flag #2. I honestly thought I had misheard. I have hair that is about 3 inches below my shoulder - not what I would consider extremely long - and because of that it's going to be double the price of the Groupon??? By this point I was already seated and ready to go, and didn't want to be that awkward person who walks out of an appointment so I agreed. $130 - literally a week's worth of food for me (college, man) - but if I was going to look transformed, I can bite the bullet. I should have walked out of the appointment. Long story short, I did not look transformed, I liked my hair better before the color, the top 75% of my head oddly remained unchanged (why the extra charge for length?!?!), and the haircut that was included where I asked for layers had no layers. At this point, red flags were literally being chucked in my face but it was too late, the damage was done. The women seem incredibly sweet, but I feel like I got conned into spending a unexpectedly crazy amount of money for lackluster results - and so much more disappointing because I don't have the time or $$ to get it fixed with my college grad pics coming up this week. So this is bad...really bad. But I will try to be as diplomatic as possible... Please see included pictures of my before, sample picture I brought in, after, and today's results after Joe at Salon 401, in Arcadia, gorgeously fixed my Studio Luxe disaster... I purchased a Groupon for a hair cut, ombré, and style, after seeing great feedback on their page and impressive pictures on their Facebook. I booked an appointment, got to the salon, and though it was in a unit of an old business complex and hard to find, the inside was styled quaint and very chic. Trendy, clean, and with an air of old French meets 50s pinup - adorable! I brought a picture of an ombré I loved and explained my thorough hair history. I've been all colors, black, red, two-tone, you name it! And wanted to go to a dark ombré from my light blonde. She brought me swatches, let me choose my dark color and got to work. She ensured that because of Groupons all she's been doing are ombrés and has become a pro... Now here's where it all goes downhill... After she applied my color I realized it wasn't very low from my scalp and was really light. She then said that the color was too dark that I picked and she didn't want to "shock" me, so she mixed her "secret" color instead... While the dye was on she told me she had to leave me to go pump breast milk. Which she did while eating and having a personal phone conversation behind a couple curtains next to me. I'm all for mamas but this place is tiny and I was the only person in there. Awkward, but okay, it's forgivable. So the dye comes off and i still have light blonde hair and dark reddish grey roots...everywhere! I told her I didn't like it and she apologized, and then offered no solution, I even had to pay an extra $60 for thickness and added dye... Why would you not even give me a discount on your obviously non-ombré and terrible dye job? Fast forward to today, I brought the same picture to a local salon who does ombrés and it turned out almost identical....$180 more later...Thank you Joe at Salon 401! If studio luxe had done anything remotely close to my picture, or even more realistic, the ombré that I paid for, I'd be remotely understanding. At least my haircut was OK, though when Joe fixed my hair he had to work the new lengths into a modified version of the picture I brought in. So if you want to get a color that no one has seen before, or pay for an ombré that someone doesn't know how to do, or have a ton of cash you want to donate to some hairstylists, you've found your new salon! I recently went to this salon and received service from Jamie. I walked in with the expectation that i would receive a balayage. Jamie spoke about how balayage was her specialty and she has gotten a high praise for her service from others. This was clearly a lie! Not only was my hair unevenly bleached, but she ended up giving me HIGHLIGHTS! NOT Balayage! Not only was i extremely disappointed in her overpriced bleaching but i am completely unsatisfied. She left my hair dry, frizzy, yellow, sticky, and uneven!! I regret ever having received treatment from her. With the price i paid, i should have just gone to another salon that actually knew what they were doing and actually knew how to do what she had promoted. If i could give no stars, i would. I went into this salon to get my hair done balayage and unfortunately walked out with something completely unpleasant , farthest thing from balayage. Jamie, the "stylist" who almost irreparably ruined my hair, spoke so highly of her balayage skills and her previous customer's experiences that I thought I would have another pleasant anecdote for her to share with future clients. Unfortunately, she might have confused balayage for highlights because that's what I had to walk out of the salon with. She burned my hair, left it some kind of yellow, and dried it almost completely. I had never been so unsatisfied with a hair job. I could have gone to a random salon on any corner and gotten the same service for a quarter of the price she charged me. Not only did she show up 30minutes LATE but she opted to see her 10:30am appt instead of her 10am appt. We scheduled this appointment a week ago and I expressed my need for an early appointment because I have things I need to help out with for the wedding. Had I decided to not start calling other businesses to find out if I could be seen, Christine could have ruined this Matron of Honor's day. Normally I get my hair done by Becci because I have since I was a child, but I have also had Elisabeth (The owner) and Alison both do my hair as well. All three of them are so sweet and great at what they do, they all seem to work really well together too which makes for a fun relaxing environment! I live about 45mins without traffic from the salon but I won't go anywhere else! The center they are in is mostly medical offices but once you find the salon (not hard to do) and go inside its like entering a different world, the decor is beautiful and chic, elegant and fun! I came here through a groupon where I did the partial highlights, deep condition, and cut. I don't remember my stylist's name, but she is the owner of the Salon. I definitely had a very good experience as my stylist took her time with me. I had a balayage done already that was old and just wanted to freshen up my hair a bit. Knowing that, my stylist was able to adjust the highlights so they looked more natural and went along with my remaining balayage. Will definitely come again! read more

He takes time to understand my hair concerns and hopes, then he proceeds to make my style even better than I anticipated! In my case of concern, my problematic roots grow in too fast. I was brunette as a kid- now with aggressive white hair coming in. My roots are high contrast between dark brown and white. Going blonde has helped mask a "skunk line" of roots. I purchased a groupon from this hair salon. I called the number provided. It doesn't go to a salon it goes the the hairdresser's personal cell phone. I expressed to her that I needed my hair done for my sister's wedding but I had a very busy schedule. So she said she was willing to work with me. She told me to call her as soon as I found out my weekend schedule. I reached out to my employer on a Wed and he did not get back to me until Friday in the day. So I called the hairdresser as soon as I heard from him. She didn't answer or call me back. I sent her a text explaining everything again. I called again on Saturday but no answer and no response. She then texted me asking if I had an appt and I told her no you told me call you for your availability once I heard from my employer. She didn't not respond. I went to my sister's wedding the next Saturday with my hair looking horrible. I did not have enough money to pay more to get my hair done since I already paid for the Groupon. She is the best I've ever had and I'm 73 yo... she tames my cowlicks, does a fantastic cut, is an artist with hair color - paints on my lowlights free hand and never slips. I have been seeing Elyzabeth for over a year now, at the recommendation of my cousin who has been having her do her hair for over 28 years! What a find!!!! I drive an hour and a half just to have her do my hair. Love the location, plenty of parking, and close to the mall! I have very sensitive skin and wa having lots of itching and when I was getting my hair colored... So much that I had to be treated by a physician to lessen my reactions.... Not ready to stop coloring my hair. That being said, when I explained this to Elyzabeth she took extra precaution with me, and I have never had a reaction or so much as an itch associated with my hair color.
