I recently visited Studio .M. and the experience I had there was unbelievable! Once I walked in I was greeted by very friendly people, the shop was clean, the prices were very good and what I really liked is that it was with AC. Witch was very comforting during your treatment. Got a super short notice appointment made with Jamie and had a dream of a fresh bob in mind. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Jamie with a friendly hug - like we'd been old friends! I was introduced to Studio M by Victor Umana through Nextdoor. I'm a part-time resident in Palm Springs and Victor was looking for models at Studio M for his portfolio. Timing worked well for me, so I obliged... The studio was clean and comfortable with lots of products for purchase. It is convenient for me, being located in Smoke Tree shopping center. Victor is a very sweet, caring man who did a great job on my blunt shoulder-length cut. He washed my hair and asked me what products I preferred to be used. He asked for guidance on how I like my hair cut, how much to trim, as well as how to part and style it. Victor took his time and I left feeling beautiful. The two stars are because of Debbie who graciously came in on a holiday and was very accommodating (excepting she failed to deliver a key bit of information prior to my arrival ... see below). Otherwise this would've surely been a one star given the time and energy that was wasted due to lack of professional courtesy and communication. Debbie graciously rescheduled a waxing that initially had been requested but was no longer needed 2 days later. She's already apologized for: Without forewarning they changed my service from a male masseuse to female; so after driving out for the anticipated session, was told someone I didn't request have been substituted in. Actually I discovered this myself, by spotting a woman pacing back-and-forth anxiously to my left... and when I asked where the male therapist was, after literally standing there for 10 minutes chitchatting with Debbie, she admits that the person that I'd been booked with isn't coming in - so they have a female for me. Debbie decided not to communicate this despite several communications prior that day. Tho obviously she must've known at least an hour prior because she would've had to book in the female instead on a holiday last minute - so all of this went on without Debbie ones having the common sense to contact me to ask if I would like a female even though I specifically requested a male masseuse. The whole thing was just really absurd... Spoke with the female therapist (a tall woman with gray hair) about what I was looking for and why male technicians were generally a good fit. Apparently despite her years, this woman doesn't know herself well, as she insisted that she would like to move forward with the session; yet after having me go thru ALL the motions of undressing and getting settled on table, at the first common-sense request (she literally was leaning over me pressing down on my skull with her body to get to my shoulders- NOT professional) - she defensively snaps "You know what, I'm not going to do this." This was literally after a 5-10 minute conversation with me sharing what I was hoping for, and she had every chance to back out prior- BUT she waited until I was undressed and on the table to realize that she was not experienced enough to do the work properly (in all my years getting massage, never had a therapist lean on me hard with their chest on my head so I couldn't breathe!). And the fact that other clients let her get away with this is absurd. The neck is one of the most fragile parts of the body - and she literally was leaning on my skull pressing my face into the headrest with the weight of her body. But apparently me asking her not to put her body weight on my skull so I could breathe was not an acceptable request, and she bailed within 2 minutes of the session, then hid, so Debbie had to apologize FOR her. Communication clearly is not strong overall at this business - everyone had ample opportunity to make better decisions, and decided to not communicate, then let things get worse. Would've been so much better for all had Debbie called prior to the service and admitted they didn't have a male therapist as promised, so we would've had the opportunity to save all that time and energy of an unsatisfactory experience. And it would've been so much better had the female masseuse known herself well enough to know that she was not a good fit for somebody who has experienced good deep tissue massages. Again: we had a whole conversation leading up to her then deciding to back out due to inexperience - once I was already on the table. Since Debbie is the manager and she's well aware of all of these challenges, there's really nothing more to discuss. Nothing was charged, they lost the business, and I was lucky to book in at Palm Mountain Resort for a massage a few hours later The business owner Jarrod seems to be very caring as he's left this up on his yelp profile. I got the Refresh Facial done by Quinn C and it was very relaxing, she made my first experience great and recommended product to better combat skin breakouts. We checked out with Brian at the front and he was very friendly and helpful getting us scheduled our for our next appointments. Studio M is in the Jensen parking lot off the 111 in a great location. It was easy to find and easy to make an appointment for next day services. The studio is set up where there is a separate hall for skin services, a room for nails, and a side with salon chairs. After calling around to different hair salons to make an appointment for my husband to get a haircut, I chose this salon as this was the only place that had availability for this weekend and the girl who answered the phone was super nice and welcoming. As we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and an offer for something to drink. Even our dog got a treat and a bowl of water. This is not something you see at most salons. I must say, in addition to all that, it smelled so good inside. Like a high end salon with a delicious scent in the air. We were introduced to Udo who would cut my husband's hair. He was an absolute delight! What a classy gentleman who is a master at his craft. While he gave my husband the BEST haircut he's ever had, we enjoyed conversing with him about his travels around the world. After we were done, I was so happy with the service that I made an appointment to come back for a facial. This is not a typical spa or salon. This is a classy place with great customer service by people that actually know what they're doing. After we left, my husband and I talked about coming back to this Salon for Udo every time we're in Palm Springs. Yes, he's that good! I called and sent pictures of my hair to the salon I requested a blonde specialist. I was referred to a stylist. I went for the consultation we went over what I wanted in person. At no time was told they didn't think they could do my blonde hair bleach touch up. Well after 4.5 hours and three attempts I left exhausted. I was charged full price and told I should get a deep conditioning treatment. I'm confused as to why they didn't offer the deep conditioning treatment at no charge? After all that to charge me full price? My hair wasn't blown out or styled. I was just done. Not a good experience. read more

Blond ALERT!! My long hair was such a mess I had been contemplating cutting it short. I hated the color and texture and everything about it. I thought it would be a nice upscale salon but I was wrong. I left with my hair soaking wet like a dog and it was 35 just to get it a little dry. He is so articulate and ensures that every strand of hair is perfect. As a mixed woman, I am extremely picky on who works on my hair. I am so impressed with Mark's work with my Brazilian Blowout, making my nappy and crazy hair more manageable, and for his work on dying my hair with heavy highlights. I was out in Palm Springs for a month and needed a haircut. This salon has good rating so I thought I'd try it out. The reservation process was easy, I even received a call to confirm my appointment. Upon arrival, I was seated at the stylist station. The salon was very clean and comfortable. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted for a style and was hoping for a recommendation or input from the stylist but he wasn't really eager to provide any. I ended up just touching up my current style which was unfortunate because it felt like a wasted trip, especially for the cost. It may have been the stylist wasn't a good match for me. It also seems like they cater to an older Palm Springs crowd. I am somewhat neutral on this salon. I won't go back as it's not a good fit for me but they may be a good fit for someone in the 55+ category. read more

I had a facial and massage yesterday and had an embarrassing experience. I was escorted into the facial room and told to unrobe and put on the the provided robe. Granted, I am a size 18 woman (a little larger than most) and the robe did not even wrap around me! I put it on and snuck my head out of the door looking for the aesthetician to ask her for a larger robe. That's humiliating enough but she came back and said they only had one size! I had to put my clothes back on to get my facial!! NO EXCUSES-YOU CAN DO BETTER! Having robe options for all size people is essential and this was an absolute FAIL IMO. I saw Mark at Studio M and I am so glad I did. Mark was very friendly and easy to talk to. I came in needing a trim and wanted to get some highlights as well, and he greatly exceeded my expectations. I am currently in a grow-out phase with my hair and he was knowledgeable about how it should be cut so that it grows into the next stage perfectly. I also struggle with some scalp issues and he was able to give me a lot of advice about how to care for things moving forward. Kinda disappointed with our most recent experience with this salon. It's such a cute place but we won't be back. I gave my wife a gift certificate for $194 dollars which I felt would give her a complete salon experience where she would be pampered and walk out with no cost to her. Instead she used the gift certificate and then paid an additional $120 dollars for gratuity and "special" products. She insists there was no hard pressure sale and assured me that she loved the stylist but when I get home I sure better see $314 dollars worth of styling. The stress of paying the additional money unplanned certainly wiped away any relaxing feeling. We've both lived in major cities (Seattle, Chicago, DC) and have NEVER paid prices like this for what we felt like was exceptional service and superior styling. We won't pay this here.
